Bootloop, Can't go to recovery mode and device undetectable on Windows... Help? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello fellow members,
Before you go and advice me to search the forums before posting; I did that and did not find any solution... Here's my horror story;
I own a Galaxy S (GT-i9000). A while ago I installed Tsunami X on it along with Semaphore. When my phone was booting up, I accidentally removed the battery and when I tried to turn it on, I got stuck on a bootloop. The phone does not go in the recovery mode, and when I put it on download mode it does not get recognized by the computer (used 3 different computers, all with Samsung drivers and Kies.) which means that I cannot use Odin to flash it with a different ROM...
I am in a desperate need of your help as I searched all the forum for answers and did not find any... Thank you in advance

AW: Bootloop, Can't go to recovery mode and device undetectable on Windows... Help?
Maybe the usb cabel is corrupt. Did you already tried anotherone?

For getting into recovery, try the 3 button option (Power + Home + Volume Up). Press these 3 buttons till you see the kernal logo.
For boot loop, try re-installing the ROM with data/cache wipe.
For USB,
(i) re-install these drivers 64 bit | 32 bit and then
(ii) check cable
(iii) follow this link for exhaustive solution http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27205737&postcount=4571

I too have the same problem:
- SGS wont be recognized by PC (tried 2 differnet laptops and also different usb cables, nothing worked)
- Tried Odin and Heimdall (both didn't recognize the device)
- tried to flash the broccoli-aokp ROM: aokpcb_galaxysmtd_r2.1-beta-20120610-1843
- when i try to go (by the 3-button-option) into the recovery menu the device boots, shows the normal Galaxy S screen and then instead of recovery the ROM itselve tires somehow to boot (i get the bootscreen from the ROM)
- Also tried to make it visual for Odin/Heimdall via zadig.exe, didn't work...now the driver won't even install
- even tried it via cmd and the adb command, also no devices attached
Alltogether: i cant falsh any ROM via Odin nor CMW
Is it bricked? (Never had a bricked phone and dont know how to recognize this)

Nope, neither the 3-button combination works (i get the normal galaxy s start up screen, and then instead of getting the recover ui the ROM somehow tries to start and i get the bootscreen...and then the bootloop starts) nor through the adb commands in cmd (no device detected)

Help, Bricked and no solution is working

Here is the exact details on what happened in the order I remember them
1. Was using the latest Cognition Rom and decided to try something different
2. Used Odin to flash back to stock
3. Flash Axura CE Version 4
4. Decided I liked Cognition better (Not bashing Axura, great Rom but not for me)
5. Went to try Odin and USB connection was not recognized
6. Knew USB connection worked under Cognition so tried to use Clockwork to restore to it.
7. After restore I got numerous FC and shut down.
8. After shut down phone would not boot but stuck on the i9000 Axura loading screen.
9. Now the problem I have is that I can get to recovery mode with no problem but USB is not recognizing connection, tried to get CW to mount USB so I could put the zip version of stock ROM on it but it will not mount. Also tried uninstalling samsung drivers and reinstalling with no luck

Any Help greatly appreciated

Is download mode still available? If yes your not screwed but your drivers might be.
What steps do you use to get into download mode.... 3 buttons or usb/vol+- combo ?
Yes download mode is available. I used the holding the volume up and down and plugging in USB. It goes to download mode with no issues whatsoever.
Well then this is a non-issue issue... Possibly a bad flash... Go in download mode again and reflash.
Your a bit crying wolf with no reason here. As long as download mode works and Odin detects the phone you have no issue
Use the Odin-one click if you have to ...but really calling it a brick when you have download mode gee-wiz.
Thats the issue. It is not detecting in ODIN. If it was detected I would have reflashed with no problem. I get the message that the USB device has malfunctioned and is not recognized
Try re-downloading the USB drivers - use the ones found in my signature.
If you can get into recovery - you can then get back into CWM and attempt to re-flash again - but you'd still need to 1-click back to stock using ODIN.
Have you tried to plug the usb cable in the Mb directly or changing its port ?
I actually downloaded your drivers last night and installed them. Still not recognized. I can get to CWR and have the zip files for AXURA and Cognition on the SD card. Get errors on various lines when trying to install either. I have tried 3 different cables and 4 different computers with no luck on recognition
Well crap... I did have the USB issue on my work's XP Machine - but when I went home to my Windows 7 box - it ended up finding the phone fine and I was able to flash back to stock.
Any chance you can find a Windows 7 box?
Dont know anyone with one unfortunately. I need to install Win 7 through bootcamp on my mac. I tried to even get it to mount as storage through CWR on it with no success
Well.. I can say with 99% certainty you should be able to restore the phone.. also if you look at my sig - I just added a link to the OTA_JH7.zip that is CWM flashable if you could somehow get the zip onto your phone that is lol.
Hm.. and I dunno how the virtual box of Win7 will run - but it's worth a shot. Windows 7 seems to be superior when it comes to figuring out devices vs. XP. I was shocked when it found my then toasted phone (similar issue your currently experiencing).
Haha, I have your zip to as a matter of fact. I picked it up but I dont know how to get it put on the phone if it wont recognize usb. If CW usb mounting would have working I was gonna put it on the internal sd and let it flash it
and actually bootcamp isnt a virtual box. its a partition on your hd where you can install windows on a mac computer

Duh.. been awhile since I've used MAC - you are quite correct
ok, on the flashing back either rom I get a error on line 10 trying to reflash AXURA and a error on line 12 with Cognition
Hmm. have you tried to do the factory reset from within CWM? I mean at this point.. can't lose anything by trying it.
Yeah, just did the wipe/factory reset through CWR. Still sticking on the same screen
Try this.
-Unplug the phone
-Uninstall all the current Samsung drivers you have, reboot
-Install this one, reboot
-Put the phone in download mode
-Plug the phone
Does windows install the drivers? If not continu
-Open Windows Device Manager and do a plug&play search
-If you have a ? device select it
-Right click/Update Drivers
-Select automatic...... if windows finds nothing return and select Manual.
-Choose the "Samsung ADB composite device" driver and install
Is the install successful ?
-Now unplug the usb cable
-Open Odin
-Plug the usb cable
Does Odin now see the phone ?

Why would you brick a working phone based on a driver issue ?!
That's like blowing your car engine cause you can't communicate with onboard electronics........ unreal

[Q] Stuck on boot screen... how to use recovery mode?

My I9000 is stuck on the boot screen, after trying to install EZbase (was stock eclair). Odin/heimdall don't see the phone in download mode. I CAN get into recovery mode.. i have Clockwokmod recovery 2.5.1.0 speedmod ULFK on there. I have tried a factory reset, but this didn't help.
So what do i do here?
I am under the impression i need to flash with an update.zip; but i don't have a clue what should be my update.zip.
Sorry if this has been asked many times, but i searched and have read many threads and got nowhere.
ok well download the android SDK tools and isntall all the USB drivers. Unplug your USB cable and change the port from the one you are using, boot your phone into download mode, once in download mode fire up ODIN v 1.7 and plug your phone in, it should find it in odin, once you can see it in odin you should be able to continue flashing EZbase and then onto Cyanogen if that is what you were trying to do
Once you get odin to recognize your phone in download mode you need to flash a Kernel/Rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991792
since you were trying to do that try the link above
Thanks for the quick response!

do you mean Android SDK Starter Package? Or?
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
This is what i downloaded; what do i do now? Do i have to run SDK Manager.exe and install java (i would like to avoid this, if i can)??
Thanks for your help.
ya unfortunately you have to install java. so maybe your phone isn't being recognized because your doing it in the wrong order....try this before you install anything, unplug the phone, boot into download mode, fire up odin then plug the phone in. you should see it on some com port on the top left
Ok; Java installed, ran SDK Manager and added Google USB Driver for Windows, Revision 4. [ as developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html ], which is in \android-sdk-windows\extras\google\usb_driver
The directions provided by google (url above) suggest plugging the phone in first. This installed the samsung drivers automatically, however.
Odin3 1.7 now showed a port; but the flash stalled at 'SetupConnection..'
I tried using 'update driver' via Device Manager, but all that i see is;
Modems -> SAMSUNG Mobile Modem
Universal Serial Bus controllers -> SAMSUNG USB Composite Device
Neither would update with the drivers in \android-sdk-windows\extras\google\usb_driver
[Also, Yes, I am opening odin and booting in download mode before connecting the USB cable]
Ok try flashing just a kernel go to the Dev section and find a kernel from hardcore it is called speedmod kernel. That should flash in 20 seconds or so. Flash the froyo one he has one for gingerbread so don't use that one they are separate threads so its easy to tell which is which

..now if i try to turn the phone on it shows a phone and a PC with a /!\ warning symbol between them, and i can't boot in to recovery mode. I CAN boot into download mode, and the PC makes a noise to acknowledge something has been connected, but Odin doesn't see it.
EDIT: I reinstalled Keis, and selected 'install drivers' on the menu from within the app.. this meant Odin was able to see the phone and i have sucessfully (apparently) updated the kernel to speedmod froyo. The phone is back to the 'Galaxy S' screen again. Now what? How long should the phone take to boot if it is sucessful (ie. how long should i wait before restarting?)
EDIT 2: Ahh, EZbase flash worked too! .. thank F, a working phone!
So i guess the key was to get the drivers (again) from the submenu in the Keis App NOT the android SDK.
Glad it worked out, sorry it took so long to reply, ya after you get a kernel on there then you need to flash a rom again, which is exactly what you did later

[Q] Bricked Galaxy S : Download mode corrupted?

Hi everyone
So here it is : No program is able to recognize/detect my Galaxy S i9000M (Bell Vibrant) when it's in download mode, so I can't flash any ROM. My phone is currently fully bricked and unusable. I cannot access to the recovery mode with the three-button thingy or by "adb reboot recovery"
I bricked using Odin 1.8, trying to flash a 2.2 froyo stock ROM from Samfirmware. The flashing went ok, but it failed to reboot. Actually, the screen was turned off and nothing was happening. I figured out it was fully bricked so I made a USB JIG, it worked. I can access my download mode.
I connected the phone to my Windows 7 computer and used Odin to flash back to 2.1 Eclair, with a stock ROM from Samfirmware. It failed (I don't remember the error message, it was a couple days ago...).
I tried with Heimdall Frontened. It had a problem uploading the .pit file, so the flashing didn't work.
Now each time i connect the phone to my computer, Windows (and Heimdall frontened and Odin) doesn't detect it,which means that I can't flash anything on it even though it is in download mode.
I have tried reinstalling like every driver on earth, still not responding.
I tried on another Windows 7 machine and on Ubuntu, the device is not detected.
I tried with different USB cables, nothing happens.
This is my hypothesis (maybe silly) : Could the problem be the Download mode being corrupted?
Whatever... I could use some help from you guys.
Thank you,
Sam
I had/have the same problem.
I installed the Samsung Kies and now my computer recognize my phone again.
But I have still no idea what I need to flash to make my phone working.

That is strange... I tried installing Kies and it didn't detect the phone. And you could just flash any 2.3 stock ROM with Odin I guess.

[Q] N7000 not recognized by windows.

Hello all,
My mother has a GT-N7000 running complete stock.
It updated something according to ehr saying and afterwards it rebooted.
After the reboot it rebooted again and now its bootlooping, it shows samsung and plays the sound.
The bleu glaze comes up and the the device reboots.
I cant get into recovery with vol up+home+power button combo.
It boots to it and it shows the droid with the sort of cubic icon spinning in its belly and after 3 sec the device reboots.
I cant do a factory reset there so i read about Odin and reflash stock image.
I downloaded the proper file and Odin 3.0.9 and installed samsung drivers.
I dont have Kies installed as i read it could give problems.
The device does go i ndownlaod mode but my PC running w7 ultimate 64bit doesnt recognize the device.
I tried 3 different USB ports from the Mobo, and i tried a couple of diferent USB cables.
One of the cables is original Samung U2 cable.
Everyt time i connect the device winodws shows the message: the USB device isnt recognized.
Odin doesnt register anything so i cant flash a thing with it to restore.
Does this mean the device is bricked?
Does the N7000 has some sort of unbrick JTAG mode or something or would linux help to rewrite all partitions?
Thx for any tips.
With best ergards,
Mister_mini
Edit: thinking back it could be possible USB debuuging has been turned on but im not sure on this part.

ACE S5830 hardbricked, drivers are not getting detected.

I just hardbricked my S5830 while trying to install cwm.
Actually I tried to install cwm without rooting the phone, and when i checked after this the phone was not going to recovery even samsung default recovery was gone.
Now there was no way through phone to install cwm. So i tried to factory reset the phone. My bad luck, phone is not getting on now.
The problem I am facing now is I am not able to use odin as drivers are not recognising the phone. It always gives drivers malfunctioned error. Even for the adb drivers too.
Has anybody faced this issue?
It is going to download mode. But in pc it is not recognising the phone. I installed all the available drivers.. But still the same.
Thank you in advance.

Have a look in the rooting and troubleshooting threads.
If odin isn't recognising your phone then:
1/ drivers for "download-mode" not installed properly.
2/ phone is not actually in download-mode.
3/ usb cable or pc usb port is faulty.

I am glad you replied.
I think the drivers for download mode has not installed properly.
I searched in rooting and trouble shooting, couldnt find the proper drivers which detects. Even i installed windows 7 as someone mentioned in some thread. Still nothing worked.

1/ All I can suggest is install drivers/ odin as administrator. Windows should detect running phone with "ding-dong" even in wrong mode.
2/ remove phone battery for 20 secs.
3/ replace battery.
4/ press and hold down home button, down-Volume & then press power for 4 secs, then release power.
5/ keep holding home and down-Volume (about 5 more secs) until screen flashes and "downloading" is displayed.
6/ release buttons, plug phone to pc, flash stock rom with odin.
