Seidio said no, what now for a rugged case? - Nexus 10 Accessories

So Seidio said they have come to a decision on the Nexus 10. They will not be making a case for it. :crying:
What now? Gumdrop haven't brought one out. I don't know if they are considering it. Otterbox don't have one either (I hate them anyway). And the poetic revolution looks cheap & nasty. The BobJ one isn't from a tried & tested company so makes me nervous. What are other rugged case fans doing with their tablets?

I'm at a loss too and frankly it kinda pisses me off. My wife is pissed I sold her ipad 1 because it was slow and the browser crashed all the time, just to get a nexus that is buggy as **** and crashes all the time, like frequent full on crashes. To top it off, there's no such thing as a decent case for it and probably won't be for a long time. I had a sweet otterbox for the ipad, why the **** does the world have to revolve around damn apple products. Why are there 500 awesome cases in 500 colors available 5 months before a new ipad is even announced.
And why the **** does Google have such a buggy ass flagship device.
Fix this buggy PoS and give me a damn rugged case already. A quality one. Not another one of these damn flippy magnet cheap flimsy cases that are all copies of each other.

What kind of bugs? I just ordered mine two days ago. I'm kind of curious since I can still cancel and wait for the second gen.

No crashes here either. Probably some buggy app causing it or something.

After running CM10.1 latest build. My crash all gone. Happily using it now.

Where is the love?
I'm kinda Pi&&ed too!! I figured that Google would have accessories available for their Flagship device. We get NO LOVE from the manufacturers like the freaking iPad does!!! Only cheap crappy covers for a device that is suppose to be cutting edge. I just bought a Noreve cover and it's nice, but it's the only cover I have found that is nice, there are no other choices that are as high a quality. I will certainly think twice before purchasing my next device from Google, not to mention the other "glitches"...

Not meaning to be bossy but is there any possibility we could just get back to discussing rugged case alternatives for the Nexus 10.

I agree hissy fits won't get us anywhere haha. It is true about the lack of quality cases for our Nexus 10 right now. I haven't seen a good name brand one yet. Hoping for a good flip cover that just covers the screen not the back.

Sorry - missed that. A shame that one isn't coming out from Otterbox or Seido. I've got the extended convert combo on my GNex now -- fantastic -- and I could easily see me using something like that on my N10. Still haven't settled on a case myself yet. Still using a neoprene slip case I picked up on day one from Five Below (as you can imagine, it cost me $5). Protects the N10 fairly well when I'm carrying it or not using it, but it's clearly a temporary measure. Really not excited by any of the case options out there -- only one that looks appealing to me is the Noreve Tradition, but I'm not about to spend $110 on a tablet case. Ah well...the search continues.

After the terrible quality of the Poetic Slimcase I will not get another poetic case. Very rarely have I seen a case that does damage to the device its trying to protect.

That's a shame -- I like the overall design of the case, but hesitate to order it based on those reports and the comments that it's SO tight. Disappointing too, in that my son has the same model case on his Nexus 7, and it's excellent: perfect fit - not too tight or loose, no damage to the tablet, very convenient, nicely finished. My son tends to be pretty hard on his belongings (6'4" teenager), uses the tablet several times a day, and the case is holding up beautifully so far. If I thought the experience would be the same for the Nexus 10, I'd order one now.

It really is. I freaked out when I saw the display sticking up in the right corner and had memories of the nexus 7 screen lift issue. Took it off and pressed the screen back in. I'm using the origami roocase now which is much better.

I wish stores like Staples and Walmart would stock some of these cases so we could actually see them close up and try them - and return them immediately if necessary without having to ship back and forth. It was great to get my N10 locally from Walmart, and I'd love to be able to do that with accessories too.

The Poetic Revolution case may LOOK cheap and nasty, but it is certainly not. I own it, and have used it every single day for three months. I'm also Active Duty, so trust me when I tell you it gets plenty of use...far beyond what it was originally designed to handle, I'm sure. Now, Its no Seidio Active case but it sure aint bad for $20. The ONLY bad things I can say about it is that it comes with a built-in heavy duty screen protector that is just garbage, and it bulks up the tablet a bit (which i actually like) Thankfully however, the cheesy screen protector punches out very easily. Get an ArmorSuit Military Shield screen protector to go with it and be done with it.
Bright side is you're only out $30 or so until somebody makes a better case. How much to replace that big 10.1 inch screen if you drop it without the $30 case?

Case or no case

So what are your thoughts, will you use a case with your NS? I have been using a HTC Desire without a case and not a single scratch on it (touch wood), but it also utilizes more scratch resistant materials.
Well I think we should base it off of how the current Galaxy S phones do without a case on the back. I do not want a case, but if the back is going to scratch easily, then I would consider it.
I hope it comes with a neoprene pouch like the original Nexus One does...
Based on the unboxing videos the Nexus S does not come with any pouch.
Best buy just listed the accessories they will have available on launch day. Not very impressive at all, mostly generic looking accessories.

Bummer about no pouch. Luckily I have one
Soft silicone/gel case is at least, which can absorb some impact when dropping and save your phone.

Holy crap, those are the worse cases I've ever seen!
And this: http://mobileaccessories.bestbuy.com/smartphone-experts-desktop-stand/5A100A6285.htm
Are you f'ing serious? You don't deserve to buy a Nexus S if you buy that thing.
almost all of those are just generic cases that will fit any smartphone. Probably gonna be a couple months until we see specific nexus s cases.
Anyway, for me i'm going to be getting an invisible shield for the front and a zagg skin for the back in a little custom design by me.
I'm going to use a Case-mate Barely There case without screen protector (in order to protect the back cover from scratches when I lean it on a table etc., for a better grip and for a minimal drop protection without being bulky) and a Mofi pouch (to protect the screen and the camera lens when I put it in my pocket).
Well... if they'll release such products for the Nexus S (but I do think so).

Case-Mate will release products for certain phones if there is a demand. There was a poll for the Vibrant and got about 400+ votes I think. Case-Mate ended up making cases for the phone. So it's still possible.

Case-mate Barely There ftw! had one for my N1 and sticker bombed it, all awesome
When I was using feature phones I went threw them at a rate of 3ish a year. Since the original iPhones release? I havent had a single issue with smartphones....but I suck at being nice, so I'm really really careful. I am not planning to grab a case (despite the fact that BB put one in my bag and charged me for it without asking) for my NS. The thing is plastic as hell. I have like 20 bowls that have been through my dishwasher at stupid temperatures and had no issues. Im not worried.

The Pop! case (iPhone version: http://www.case-mate.com/iPhone-4-Cases/Case-Mate-iPhone-4-Pop-Cases.asp) would also be nice if you want more protection. Seems like it's the successor of the Tough case.

This phone is a scratch magnet cause theres no soft touch or anything on it so as nice as it is without a case it needs one

High Quality Cases

So I was hoping we could talk about high quality cases that look good and may cost more than the usual cases found on ebay etc. Even though I understand cheap is good at times I do prefer my cases to be of a high standard to hold my precious Nexus 7.
Any high quality cases on the horizon?
I've been looking at a sleeve. I can't post a link, but it's leather and comes with a 100 year warranty. It's by Saddleback Leather and is the medium gadget sleeve.

Saddleback is GOOD stuff. Might have to see if they have one that will fit the N7, otherwise might be able to request one.
Someday I'd love to get a Saddleback Attache. They are beautiful and will last long enough to pass down to grandkids (I don't have kids yet)!
http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/products/kindle-fire-plush-sleeve/1992727
These are $19-25
Timbuk2 makes really great cases. They are currently on sale for the kindle fire. I have double checked the dimensions and it will def fit the Nexus 7. The great thing about the Timbuk2 cases are the functional design. They have a pillow style memory foam padding and ballistic Nylon outside, and a plush, velour faux fur lining for the inside. The faux fur really goes a long way to keeping the screen and body scratch free.
I have 2 on order. They have a couple of different color combos to choose from. I am def into the sleeve style cases. I don't understand why anyone would want to put their tablet or e-reader in a jacket. They are designed to be held, especially the Nexus 7. The rubber back just begs to be gripped.
I'm hoping for a nice case from Incipio. Love the case from them that I have on my Galaxy Nexus.
I went with the roocase super bubble and XOSkin screen protector. I will eventually get a TPU case but don't really like any that are out now.
Those handcrafted leather ones look amazing though! Very nice brand name for other leather goods, but I didn't know they made this line of stuff.

Actually, I got a reply this morning - a good one:
"We are looking into making a cover specifically for the Nexus. We have one ordered and once we receive it we will be able to develop our design. I don’t know at this point if the siena style will be an option or not. We will have to see. Stay tuned for more information on our website and facebook page.
Thanks so much for your interest."
I told her that I don't care which one it is, to keep me posted. I love their cases. :good::good:
DODOcase makes great handmade case for the iPad and Kindle. I contacted them asking about the Nexus 7 and they said,

I bought the Timbuk2 Plush Sleeve, which is designed for the Kindle Fire, but the Nexus 7 is within the maximum dimensions. I've always been a big fan of their stuff and this sleeve is no exception... super nice!
FYI... I can confirm the Plush sleeve for the Fire fits the N7 perfectly.
I also asked a G+ question to Vajacases.com. Genuine Argentinian leather products. I began using them on my Sony Clie back in the days of pdas
Awesome product, almost to the par of Oberon cases. I have one on my wife's old Nook but looks great.

rooCASE Multi-Angle Leather Folio Case (Video Review)

http://www.amazon.com/rooCASE-Multi...TF8&coliid=I3PNX4KCCN3GST&colid=2KWIRQ1PEHLSD
If your looking for a great Nexus 7 Case at a incredible price .. this is a steal for $15...
It's as advertised, it's multi-angle to any position you want because they grey area is felt, and it has velcro feet on the bottom side of the tablet that let's you position it anyway you want and it's holding up great!! .. it's very stable in portrait mode as well..maybe I do a video or something sometime soon, but it's a steal .. closes by a magnet and I forget what it's called but when you close the cover the screen turns off and when you open the cover the screen turns on...
I honestly can't see them settling at this price for this product .. it's every bit worth the $30 that they have as the retail. I had it pre-ordered and they just started shipping yesterday. I got mine within a day since it's shipping from Southern California ..
Update 7/22: Lots of people are asking about "muffled sound" with this case, in which I reply I don't have an issue with that. For those on the fence, I went ahead and took a picture of the back of the Nexus when the case fully extended. There are in fact holes for the speaker. Let's think about this for a moment. When you use the case in "landscape mode", the holes aren't covered. If you just lay your Nexus 7 flat on a desk and just flip open the cover.."you" are covering the holes. But imo, it's not terrible. It's not like the Nexus 7 puts out Bose Audio quality surround sound .. and again this case is only $15 shipped .. Worse case scenario, Amazon has an excellent and simple return policy.
And if your still unhappy with your sound :crying: .. Grab this free EQ App: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smartandroidapps.equalizer&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5zbWFydGFuZHJvaWRhcHBzLmVxdWFsaXplciJd
And Please .. Press the thanks button if I've helped you at all..
Lastly, I'm including a picture of the screen lit up in the case. So you can see that no, the case doesn't cover the screen. The notification bar issues is because there's only a little bit of room there and our fingernails need to be cut!

I am taking a leap of faith since I need a case and this doesn't look as ****ty as the other folio cases out and does have the magnet so :fingers-crossed:
I ordered one of these yesterday. Was $10 w/ 5 dollar shipping basically. Looks good to me in the pics, hopefully it fits good when I get it.
I liked how it had the magnet for auto-wake, and how it had a stand mode for watching movies I guess. And how it was cheap
Im really digging this case. I have a post here about the exogear car mount..and i can mount the nexus 7 with the case still on .. when i get time im going to update my pictures and do a new video on that one as well.. enjoy guys!

The rooCASE looks nice but a bit too thick. What do people think about that?
Thanks
Purchased one of these today. Paid $10 for it earlier. Looks decent enough for me right now. Hope it's good quality.
The one I originally wanted was the one below. Has a handstrap along with a magnet to close the flap. I just can't honestly wait 2 weeks for it so I settled for this one.

I guess I got my answer and the cons outweigh the pros:
"I have noticed that the speaker is quite muted while in this case, and also its kind of bulky. It probably triples the thickness of the nexus 7."
(http://www.amazon.com/rooCASE-Multi-Angle-Leather-Google-Automatically/product-reviews/B008F05Q2E/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&colid=2KWIRQ1PEHLSD&coliid=I3PNX4KCCN3GST&showViewpoints=1)
The rooCases do increase the bulk but IMO they are worth their weight in gold. I have a leather rooCase on my ASUS Transformer - which got knocked to the ground from a height of about 4 feet and it did not get any damage from the fall, not a nick, dent or crack. Here's a link to the genuine leather rooCase for the Nexus. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008F05Q5Q/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00
This one is more expensive; but the inner case is detachable and can reattach in portrait
mode for video chats. The only other downside is the bezel is covered and makes the notification bar marginally harder to pull down.

Exactly. I was surprised at how well made it is. I also ordered this case: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008GFHO6Y/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00 It's going back. Bulkier than I like and it looks cheap.

The Nexus 7 Yoomee case will be my main case, when it arrives - I think. Really like everything about it (and I didn't expect to...)
I have to say, if anyone can let me know how to contact rooCASE for support, I would greatly appreciate it. My wife ordered a case from them for her Samsung GT 10.1, and it pretty much fell apart in the first month or so. She and I have both sent numerous email messages asking for them to honor their lifetime warranty, and neither of us have received a response.
Can't recommend them, honestly, and at this point it's the principle of the whole thing. I simply can't believe that a company of their stature (this isn't some fly-by-night outfit) doesn't respond to email. And, as far as I can see, there's no phone number to call.

Yep, multiple times. But thanks.

Does the case muffle the sound as stated by the Amazon reviewer? This is one of the cases that I'm considering. TIA.

The sound seems fine to me. I really like this case, so far. ...for less that $15 shipped, I think it's great.

My brief & positive review of the Play Store case

I received one of the official Google Play Store Cass the other day. I wasn't expecting much due to the ample amount of criticism the case has had on these boards. However, I am very pleased with the $20 case.
It fits well. The button covers fit well enough that pressing them feels solid and not at all flimsy. The material feels nice to the touch, and I enjoy the not-flashy gray color. The front flap has some weight to it, making it feel like it covers the screen adequately when closed. No, it is not a "smart" cover so it doesn't wake the device up when lifted. But it is not advertised as such, and so to criticize it for that would be absurd. As a final touch, it says "nexus" on the back giving the tablet and case combination a very cohesive look and feel.
Overall I'm very pleased with this case. And I'm totally impressed with the $220 dollar case and tablet gadget that I'm writing this post with!

I'm also impressed with my case. I don't understand why so many people criticize it even though they haven't used it. Very quality material, and it seems fairly durable.

I'm glad to hear this, as I have not touched one and suspected it would actually be pretty nice. Though now knowing there is smart cover capability, I just can't justify spending any money on a case without it

I can't speak for everyone but I have used this case and it feels cheap. No way should it cost what it does.
There are MUCH nicer SMART cases for HALF the price of the Play Store case.

Does it feel cheaper than the almost invariably black pleather cases that have saturated the market? Care to provide any examples for $10 or less?
I'm happy with my Poetic hard back case and the official Nexus 7 case from Google.
I actually prefer using the official case more mainly because it doesn't add a lot of bulk to my tablet. That in turn makes it more portable as the Nexus 7 will fit in the back pocket of my business pants/slacks.
The "Smart Cover" is a nice feature to have but not necessary, IMHO. It makes it convenient but it doesn't take a lot of effort to hit the power button and sliding to unlock to use the tablet.

Blurex Ultra Slim Case, anyone have it?

http://www.amazon.ca/Blurex-Ultra-G...YQ86/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1355674844&sr=8-3
Does anyone have any impressions of this case, or other cases by this company? Build quality? Thinness?
I am quite happy with this case. Don't get me wrong, it is the same case, sold by various companies from the same Chinese manufacturer, but it is very light, thin, and looks quite good. Can't be beat for the money. I liked so much, that I ordered the same basic case for both my Nexus 7 and my Galaxy Note 10.1
It adds very little heft to the tablet, and holds the tablet very securely

The pictures aren't very clear. Can someone comment if the cameras and speakers are getting covered (obstructed) or not?
They are not! Great case

It's a simple case, doesn't obstruct anything. It has 2 levels of stand and I would recommend it if you think you are going to drop and scratch your brand new N10 like I did...
Awesome. I ordered one yesterday with one day shipping. Need it for travelling this Christmas.
Mine doesn't seem to grip the tablet on the two bottom holders.
Anyone else ? A little hard to get on too.
Anyone able to post a video review? Please and thanks!

This looks just like the Poetic case that I got.
If my case didn't actually have "Poetic" branded into the case, I'd think it was all the same company with 1 item under different names.
I have it. Its perfect.. None of the ports (including pogo) are blocked. Does not add any bulk. Has a convenient strap into which you can slide your palm when case is open, allowing single handed operation. Wake/sleep works as advertised. Very easy to convert into stand

I bought itand it makes the tablet that much better, the tablet does slip out if the grooves a little but it hasnt bothered me at all. I just put it back in without even thinking about it. the material feels good in my hands too. Does a great job protecting the tab.
Owned this case for my OG Transformer, got it again for my Transformer Pad, and am buying it again for my new Nexus 10. Love this case.
