[Q] Can't install custom rom on my rooted note - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys! I'm having a problem on my note, when i try to install any custom roms on it via clockworkmod, i select "apply update from external storage" it gives me the error "failed to mount /sdcard (No such file or directory)"
The device is rooted by the previous owner, also i think is unlocked by him aswell, so i don't have any other information about it!
I attached a screen capture with current rom, baseband etc
PS: Sorry for my english

I don't think there is an option that you quoted in clockworkmod.
This could be the stock recovery. Is it the stock kernel?
And that option needs and external sd. (its not a N7000)

I'm sorry, i don't know if is the stock kernel
Kernel version:

So where did you get CWM and are you sure you have clockworkmod. You need to install a safe kernel not sure as you don't have a N7000.. Cannot install custom roms from stock recovery.

It's a chinese version of note?

I entered into cloworkmod by checking "Install ROM from SD Card" in ROM Manager and reboot from there. Can you point me to a safe kernel please? This my be it!
Also, the device is unlocked, and as far as i read on other threads, I won't loose the unlock, would I?

No Chinese would be 9220. Not sure if kernels here ar compatible. What's the cpu? Is it a snapdragon? Then nothing from here.
---------- Post added at 11:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:02 PM ----------
Yes it has a snapdragon processor and N7000 has different hardware. So please check in the i717 note section. It seems to have similar hardware and the rooting process of this phone is mentioned in that forum

This kernel is from samsung opensource. Its version too is 2.6.35.7. Its compatible with DZKJ2.
I am a complete n00b. So I have no idea about flashin, roms, kernels etc. I have an Indian I9100G. Its baseband version is 2.3.4 I9100GDDKH3, build number is GINGERBREAD.XWKH8 and kernel is 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2.
Which ROM/official firmware can I install? What is this DZKJ2 ?

No. It is not capped at 1008MHz. Please use SetCPU to set the frequencies accordingly. However, the frequency range this kernel supports is 300MHz ~ 1200MHz.
You can get SetCPU from THIS thread. Please buy it from Android Market if you wish to donate to the developer.

in set SetCPU or No-frills CPU Control you can see range of 300mhz-1200mhz. The problem is when you do the cpu benchmarking it still shown 1008mhz.

I didn't modify my kernel yet for overclocking. I will be doing that and update the kernel along with few other tweaks.
But for benchmarking, just set both minimum and maximum to 1200MHz in SetCPU and check.

Hi Folks,
I'm coming from the S2 side of the house and I've been reading for 3 days now and I'm very confuse with how to root my N-7000 note with all the talking about "possibility" of turning it into a nice paper weight. All I wish to do is add some of my needed root apps and stay close to stock as I can but with full cwm. I was running Miui on my S2. So if someone could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. Not afraid to flash if necessary .

Follow the instructions in this post and you will find that you will be rooted.
Read both and a few more... but still confused no whether I need to back to GB or just do this..
Download the [CWM zip] and put in your Ext SDCARD ] And [ SUPERSU-Busybox-Installer.zip] to SD card (internal memory)
Reboot to recovery.
Choose apply update from external storage. (use vol up/down to select, power to enter)
Choose CWM.zip and wait until CWM recovery appear.
Choose install zip from sdcard (Now use touch function to select choice)
Choose and Install SUPERSU-Busybox-Installer.zip
Reboot
You are done and now your device is Rooted
and add cwm apk ..or do I also need to flash a cwm kernel also..
Go straight for it,no need for GB nor flashing CWM,it is a temp CWM download it from the same post, rooting iCS is so easy just read dr.ketan post and go..

[Q] How can you say if your using a unsafe ROM?

Hello i just got curious about my phone if i have been using a wrong ROM because i just some forum talking about the "CMW.zip" I use that application for rooting my phone , in short using "CMW.zip" means ur using a unsafe rom? hmm help please im just a newbie ....
and here is my kernel version : 3.0.15- 1068447 _ [email protected] #3 _ SMP PREEMPT thu sep 6 21:49:19 KST 2012
you are in ics and stock kernel. it's the kernel that's unsafe for wipes and the cwm. zip file you talking about has a tendency to brick ics devices. so don't use it anymore. I guess you are rooted, so the best option is to install a safe kernel like philz or hydracore using Mobile Odin and be safe

but i got still question is there a proper way to unroot my phone that rooted by the "CMW.zip" ???
if its rooted, there is no problem. Just move to a safe kernel. no need to unroot it again. Just don't use that file to root again. 2nd time mite not be lucky

what is this stock feeling?
so it means that one I need to install is hydracore or notecore for the smooth gaming?
stock feeling means as the phone is on official software. philz is a samsung kernel with added recovery options and safe.
hydracore has a lot of tweaks m. you can try hydracore and check if it suits you. If not the you can revert back to philz same way.

uhm sir, sorry for disturbing you but could you answer this.. can i use CMW to flash the corehydra???
yes you can. use the zip file
Hello again sir/s
i have a question it is safer to install Clockworkmod from the market and then flash ??
or it is just the same with the CMW.zip file?
(should I post it with another thread?)
never use the CWM.zip file. Just install a safe kernel and it will have CWM recovery inbuilt. i dont have much faith in the market one either
now on the other side. your signature shows you are running hydracore kernel.. why are you asking for CWM.zip again? its inbuilt in this kernel.

[Q] Going back to GB stock from rooted ICS Open Germany 4.0.3

Hello everyone, i've been searching and have found some information but i'm a bit worried with all the unsafe kernels talk so please bear with me if i ask something obvious or that has been asked before.
I flashed my phone to the Open Germany stock ICS release a few months back and then rooted it, but now i want to flash a JB rom and i see you have to go back to GB first.
What im using right now:
Android version: 4.03
Baseband version: N7000XXLPT
Kernel Version:
3.0.15-N7000XXLPY-CL474507
[email protected] #3
SMP PREEMPT Fri May 4 04:49:06 KST 2012
Build number: IML74K.XXLPY
But im still a bit confused.
Anything in particular i need to watch out for or do i just flash stock GB using PC Oding to the note?
To what version of GB should i downgrade?
Thanks in advance.
Its not required to flash gb rom to get jb
You need to be on safe kernel to flash jb rom
So now you are on ics, then flash a safe kernel like philz or hydracore and then you can flash jb rom

Yes its normal because philz is a stock kernel with emmc bug disabled
You can now flash the jb rom through cwm

[Q] Newbie question about Kernels and ROMs

Still foggy about Kernels and ROMs.
I recently installed 3.0.36_HydraCore_v5.34 kernel on my GT-N700 which was already running ICS 4.0.4 Baseband version N7000XXLS1 and it seems very stable.
However, I wanted to try the Speedmod JB ROM from Cursed4Eva and saw that it required installing a supplied kernel first. I assumed this is because the kernel and ROM have been developed together for compatibility. (Not sure if I assume correctly or if I'm using the correct terminology).
It all worked fine until I tried to re-install the HydraCore kernel after which the phone wouldn't boot. (I recovered easily using a Nandroid backup with ROM Manager).
My question is, is it always the best practice to install the recommended kernel (if any) when flashing a new ROM and not to try re-installing say, the Hydracore afterwards? The HydraCore claims to be compatible with any ROM but either it isn't compatible with the JB ROM or I'd doing something wrong (more likely).
Any advice would be most appreciated.
Trevor
I don't know what is a speedmod jb rom.
but if it's based on the latest samsung stock touchwiz jellybean rom, the hydracore is not compatible with it. current safe kernel is only philz xxls2/xxls7. If the phone is not booting the boot into recovery and flash the rom again
---------- Post added at 06:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:53 PM ----------
hydracore is compatible with most of the roms except the Samsung JB touchwiz as the kernel sources are not released as of yet. Once it does, dev will make it compatible for it too
Thank you. That makes sense. I still have a lot to learn.
Trevor
PS I would have hit thnks but can't see the button on my screen.
