Prototype Xperia Bootloader Unlocking? - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've got a prototype ZL which states that "Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes", however I have been unable to successfully unlock it. Anyone have any experience unlocking the bootloader on a prototype Xperia? Do you still get the unlock key from http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ ?

Do you know if the device is RED or BROWN? Have access to EMMA? Does Sony Update Service offer you to 'repair' it?

It is a brown device. I'll check the rest when I get back from work.

If it's BROWN you won't be able to unlock it as far as I know. Everything in those phones is signed with test keys and it probably requires another unlock code for the bootloader too. The unlock site probably generates them for RED devices.

Okay, thanks for your help! Too bad, I was so excited when I saw that the bootloader was unlockable...
If anyone has any ideas on how I can unlock, or get a key please PM me!

You're not even supposed to have a BROWN device There are very, very few out there and you might even be lucky. They usually get beta firmware quite soon, so I wouldn't even attempt to root it. Just keep checking for OTA updates and you might be one of the first with 4.2.2!

Oh, so the OTA actually does work? I thought it was just a place holder and everything had to be done through EMMA.

Well, not much is known about BROWN devices, but OTA should work. Perhaps not for all updates but you'll notice that from time to time it should offer some updates.
I'd give you my EMMA login to try some things, but my account level doesn't include BROWN firmwares If you want to verify completely if it is BROWN and what other specifics EMMA can find send me a PM!

I have a prototype xperia s rooting status does not appear.
can I upgrade from 2.3.7?

Nope! If you have a brown device you'll either have to get someone from Sony to update it over EMMA or you're stuck with the software you're running now.

Hey thanks for reply is there any way I could go about this? Would they do this for me?

Flashtool recognises the phone but comes up root access denied, or when I try flash another firmware

Turns orange and phone just charges

You have a BROWN device (it's not a colour, it's an identification. BROWN = prototype, test keys - RED = retail, real keys). BROWN firmware is almost impossible to find, you should probably ask DooMLorD, he's the only one who in some rare occasions gets BROWN firmware.
But, the past has shown that it is nearly impossible to update them without help from Sony, so I'm afraid you're out of luck. You can always contact your local Sony Mobile branch to see if they will exchange your phone, as prototypes are normally not meant to leave Sony.

[Q] Factory reset without knowing pin?

So basically someone (I don't know who, I was drunk, I thought it was a joke but no one has come forward) has set a pin on my phone and I can no longer use the thing.
I just want to be able to make phone calls again.
Is there anyway to factory reset my Sony Xperia Z1f without knowing the pin? What are my options basically?
Thanks,
Alex.
Go to Sony Service or the Store where you bought it, they will reset your phone a think for free.

I was hoping to be able to use it this weekend *sigh*
Do I need the receipt/box or something? I bought it from a small importing company who have told me I will need to mail the thing to Sony at my own expense as the nearest service center is a 10 hour drive.
So there is literally no way for me to unlock my phone short of how ever many weeks it takes Sony to mail it back to me?
It's like the shop where I bought mine, they said I got Manufacturer Warranty so I will have to send the phone to Sony, but actually when I call them they will do this for me. Go there and ask them or call them.
Factory Reset the device with PC Companion.
It doesn't ask for a PIN when I just tried now.. I needed to FR mine for the 4.3 update, so I tested it for you

Sorry what is PC Companion? Can you please post a little more info, would be super grateful. I have not been active on these forums in quite some time and am out of the loop haha
Also, I tried following this guide...
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
But I can't access the service menu on my phone from the emergency dialer like many YouTube videos show.
Why might this be?
Pc companion is a program for your Pc where u connect your phone and you can do loads of things like reset update etc...is made by Sony so just do a lil Google search and download it... Or go on Sony website

This have nothing to do with your problem, it's for Unlocking Bootlader not the phone. If you do this, you will lose your warranty.

Ok I got PC Companion and figured it out and have updated my phones software to the latest version.
But now after reading through these forums I think I would like to flash a custom ROM, however looking in the service menu my phone says that bootloader unlock is not allowed.
Is there someway to still unlock my bootloader and flash a custom rom?

No, if Unlock Bootloader Allowed say NO you can't unlock it, but you can flash custom roms with stock kernels and also root your phone. Unlock Bootlader is needed to flash custom kernels only.

Any other way to root this device on 4.3 without unlocking it?

Seems like that I would never make it to unlock it.:crying:

No not right now.
Remind me where you are getting stuck?
The tricky part is updating to 4.3 if you are on 4.2.2 and then you unlock, but if you are locked on 4.2.2 then just upgrade to 4.3 and then unlock, fastboot flash cwm and use my superuser zip to root. Easy!

All right, just let me tell you my whole story.
Someday I seemed to overcharge my tablet and thus broke the power management chip on the motherboard and then I found it stuck on the boot screen and was only able to boot to recovery. After I finally surrendered to it, I went to have Asus's guy replaced it a new motherboard, which took me like 230 bucks(much close to a new nexus 7).When I got my tablet back, it was already on 4.3 (10.26.1.18 CN), then I found it incapable to be unlocked. But I still want to root it anyway since the stock Chinese firmware is not even with GApps and lacks a lot of features that others possess. At least, I need Play Store!
Problem1: I am not sure if Asus's server records the existence or S/N of the current motherboard, which is most likely to incapacitate the unlock process.
Problem 2:
Code:
Unknown error occured, which may a network error
Please try later
That's the problem I meet all the time. I don't know if the official unlock tool is available for 4.3(the official webpage says that it is for 4.2.2 only and I can't find any other similar unlock tool for even ME302c:crying, as the firmware version is already 4.3 when I got it and it doesn't seem to be feasible fo downgrade it.
Problem 3: I have tried every root tools I know, and failed. Not possible to use the masterkey…
Thank you anyway.:victory:

Ah OK - the issue is Asus have replaced your motherboard so the mac address you are now supplying does not match the serial number of the device that they have in their database.
The ONLY way to proceed is to contact asus and get them to update their database with your new mac address - stating that you can't use their online web services like device tracking etc until they do so. They will eventually do it but if you can hold of a rep in Taiwan that will speed things up.
There is no other way.

Your bootloader isn't really locked, it's just what it shows. You only reverted your ROM to stock ICS, you didn't change the motherboard or anything so IMEI etc. should all be the same.
LG service would probably know that you unlocked the bootloader, even though it looks like it's locked. So be prepared to void your warranty.
PS: What's the problem with your phone anyway? Maybe you can fix it on your own.

there is a way, via fuse editing, there is a thread somewhere explaining our bootloader fuse file, and which bytes determine state of bootloader. however, i don't think anyone had done it before. also, be prepared to get your phone back with permanently locked bootloader. LG's servicers have nasty habbit of blowing all the fuses and locking the bootloader forever for some reason.

Search unlock.apk here in the forum (topic title is something like "16 chances to...")... It locks the bootloader too, you just have to root it again.
If I helped you, please hit thanks.
What's your location? Based on the problems you named an unlocked bootloader shouldn't void your warranty if you are in Europe for example. The changes you made to the software most probably aren't the cause of your problems, and therefore the warranty should still be in place. This however depends on your local law.

If you're in Romania you should be fine. If they find out you've unlocked it, they'll probably tell you your warranty doesn't cover it, so you'll have to be that annoying Mr. Know It All guy for a bit and tell them why they're wrong (Google it, and there's been a thread about it on this forum as well with some links), they'll be intimidated and will believe you on your word, then they'll fix it and you'll be happy and buy an ice cream with the money you saved.
If you're still planning on relocking just to be safe, I don't think that will work. The repair guys have their ways of hunting down unlocked phones and can probably see yours has been unlocked too.

Reversed screen rotation after fw swap c6916 (14.5.B.0.247) to c6906 (14.6.A.0.368)

Hi folks,
I've upgraded/replaced the original TMobile firmware (14.5.B.0.247) on my Xperia Z1s (c6916) by c6906 Customized US (14.6.A.0.368). Everything works fine except few things like:
1) screen rotation - when i try to rotate the screen into the landscape mode - it turn the screen in opposite direction/backwards. Looks like the sensor readings get reversed? It was working fine before the upgrade, hence it looks like a software issue. Any ideas how to fix it?
2) device memory is twice less but it is kind of expected because original Z1 has only 16 Gb of storage onboard. Is there any way to fix that?
Thanks.

ok, here is a "solution":
The C6906 "/etc/sensor_def_qcomdev.conf" must be replaced by C6916 version. The same applies to CyanogenMod 12.1. C6916 have different settings for few things.
I downloaded TMO firmware, extracted system.sin and replaced the file on my phone running CyanogenMod 12.1 - after reboot rotation works perfectly but it will get broken as soon as i upgrade the firmware
how did nobody catch that this dude managed to flash a different firmware on a phone that is supposedly NOT unlockable? Shefys, you need to explain exactly what you did. In another thread you said you unlocked your Z1s c6916 on developer.sony.com and i tried it, but there was no Z1s option. Followed the steps anyways by selecting Xperia Z1 but the unlock command failed citing not allowed.

hi, i wasn't aware that you cannot unlock z1s booloader. I just went to the developer site, registered, submitted my imei (as a Z1) and got a link/key to unlock it.... maybe my imei was lucky. Sorry, folks. Right now I'm running CM12 on my Z1s. Can provide photos if you want to

Yes please post pics. I tried unlocking my z1s as a z1 just like that but it didn't work. The fastboot command to process the unlock returned a "not allowed" error.
If you can get to the service screen, there is a section where it says "unlockable: no". (Or yes). Can you post a picture of that?
How did you get on the 6906 firmware?
How to unlock with flashtool

after you take the link and after that you take the unlock code just have to unlock with flashtool:
1.) create a folder in the flashtool folder with your device code ... mine is : D:\Android\Flashtool\custom\mydevices\CB5A1WPPTA
2.) inside the folder, create a file called ulcode.txt , in the file just copy the unlock code
3.) open flashtool (be sure that your phone have enable usb debug and connected) and press BLU (bootloader Unlock)
4.) after that a window will appear with your code and the phone id, you select unlock and now you have the xz1s unlocked...
BE AWARE: in my case, the camera doesnt focus after unlocked and video just doesnt work...
for the rom, i think you could take it using xperifirm and installing with flashtool
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbAfxL-oGjk
I'll have to try this and report back. I understand that unlocking the bootloader causes issues with the camera, but does the issue get resolved by flashing a ROM? Or does it stay broken?

Most of the Japanese carrier-customized Xperia variants are not support bootloader unlocking. The status could be checked in Service Menu.
So even if you are using or installed the firmware for other region, it doesn't modify the bootloader.

No Sony service center in nigeria, besides every where is locked down

Try to flash the stock firmware again via newflasher and xperifirm (means fullwipe)
If that won't fix it, you're out of luck.

Thanks it works but no network and wifi is not working, though I didn't use newflasher or xperifirm. What else can I do?
