[Q] Owners Camera Performance Opinions - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've got this phone on on order from 3 to replace my One X. A bit gutted about the bootloader situation but there you go...
I've tried the XZ for at least 15 minutes in the 3 store and I'm more than happy with the screen/viewing angles, performance, UI etc. and I feel reassured from another thread in XDA that the battery will be at least no worse than my one x.
The unanswered question for me is the camera.
I'd hugely appreciate it if some of you guys who already have it would be prepared to share their thoughts.
The reviews are mixed to say the least.
Thanks in advance guys and gals!!

Just real world use. I've read all of the reviews and they seem to range from dreadful to good. I'm looking for decent photos but I'm not really fussy so I was hoping that the people who already have the phone could confirm if they were happy or not.

i've read all the reviews in the first 3 or 4 pages on google...
no one puts the camera in "cons" section, the worse one sais that is aligned to last year flagships, and that is not "entusiastic", others say it's very good, others excellent...
no one says dreadful or crap about it
i would see at gsmarena pics, those are made in same conditions on all phones, so it's a valid measurement system, others are just "ambient dependant" and "photographer" dependant...

Thanks for the reply, I was really looking for feedback from anyone who actually had the phone and a few days experience if possible.

hey. i got my phone till yesterday and did a few shots here and there. i cant really compare to anything spec related, since my last phone was a SGS2,
and i am by no means a camera enthusiast.
what can i say, i like the quality^^ the videos look snappy, the pictures too, so theres that. not really helpfull at all, but im surely not disappointed if this means anything to you.
NOT sent from my Xperia Z - but felt like bragging
edit: one function i really like is the automatic mode detection, puts on macro if you need it and so on. the panorama mode is nice and fast and the focus is accurate and fast too.

those considering switchin to one series

i used it today and its def not worth it. Screen looks the same. It was actually a little slow and idk i prefer the amaze a lot more. Switch isnt worth it
Esp since ics our phone feels faster than the one s which is sad
even tho with roms itll be faster
I tried out the one s today and its a fantastic phone, but not having expandable store is a no go for me, not to mention the lack of a menu button is hard to get used to *seriously*
I do have to say its butter smooth and the sense 4.0 features are nice but not worth the switch for me.
Edit; was blown away by the quality of the screen though, perfect black scales and no lag

I played with the 1S today too. I was doing speed test to load certain pages and the Amaze kept up and at certain times was faster. The non-expandable storage is a negative for me too. The phone felt nice, screen was nice and all but like others have said, its not worth upgrading it from the Amaze.
Wait....I sent this with Tapatalk?

Yeah... i dont know what the OP is talking about. must have been playing with a defect or something lmao.
never, ever judge a phone by a display model.. those phones are on 24/7 and pretty much never get rebooted (which you need to do every once in a while on android).
the screen on the one s is FAR superior than the amaze screen. talking about colors, viewing angles, and visible outdoors.

I heard it wasnt good outdoors.
Does anyone have the spec differences of the Amaze and One S. That no SD card really gets to me man. I need more space. I have 2 batteries for the Amaze because the battery life is not that good. I couldnt imagine having a phone where I cant take out the battery either.
Not another one s vs amaze thread...

I just did a full upgrade with TMO.... I initially wanted the One X but TMO US doesn't carry it. And none of my lines qualify for any upgrade, but TMO US was very nice and gave me a courtesy full upgrade I took the plunge.....
Now I have both Amaze in ICS and One S. And my Amaze is 2 weeks old since I had them replace it when I dropped it.
I'll post comparisons once I get the One S. For the courtesy and full upgrade price, I was not able to resist the urge.
But in no way am I letting go of the Amaze, it's such an awesome phone especially now we have ICS leaked out.

look at some of the picture on the post towards the end. doesnt really matter though. htc made both the one x and one s to have great viewing angles and very visible outside. they didnt make the amaze to have either.

Buyer needs advice

Hi guys, I think there is quite an unbelievable offer for Austria Hutchinson users. Basically you get this phone for 69€ on a 20€ x 24 months contract. With the contract you get also 1000 minutes 1000 SMS and Internet unlimited so should be fine. Before I saw that I thought of sticking to my galaxy s for a while.
Now that said I would love to take it as long as the offer lasts, but I am concerned about 3 things:
a) i am a custom Rom user since 2 years. Never been on stock again. And I looooooove cyanogenmod! Do you think there will be custom roms for this?
b) the camera quality. While I'm not too much concerned about the video quality, I use my phone as a compact camera outside to take pictures. So how bad is it in your opinion? And do you think will it improve with upcoming updates?
c) you know something about the possibility of unlocking this phone?
I guess probably I'm asking too much but maybe someone knows better.
Thanks in advance!

It's only an okay camera, there's better, the Galaxy 3 has a better one for instance, not by that much, but clearly. No idea if this is a hardware limitation, but I'd guess so.

No idea ... but I guess with root you should be able to do more or less anything,e specially, once CWM etc are there? But I'm no pro.
We have root and CWM now, devs are working on CM10 and 4.0.4 Sense 4.1, so soon we'll have great ROMs
And i think we'll have unlocked bootloader soon too.
Hey guys,
This phone looks really cool. I was thinking of buying this phone. I want a phone that can get rooted and a lot of ROMs. Do u think Im in the right place?
I have read a lot of reviews and from what I can gather is that this phone is a tad better than the One X and a loses the battle just barely vs the GS3.
What do you guys think? What are the pros and cons of this phone?
Also which is better looking? The white or black model?
Thanks in advance guys!

You shall like the white one. Also, your favorite food is grilled chicken, and you'll only drink root beer. Also, move to Mumbai, which is your favorite city from now on. Any other totally personal decisions you can't make I'm happy to answer, too.
Hey thanks dude!
I was asking because I've never owned anything but Motorola Androids and they have locked bootloaders. Ive never seen this phone in person and the reviews online only show the white one, so I asked here for this awesome community's opinion...
Also I like grilled chicken but prefer steak. Hate root beer, and if I lived anywhere it would be 'MERICA. Ill be sure to visit Mumbai sometime though maybe we can have a beer together.

Is LG policy still suck and unreliable? Since the older models like O2X said to not get ICS!
Yesterday I saw it in the market ,and it has the same price as HOX , I saw some comparison which end by no winner, yet the HOX really has a good support by both the company & xda community ,so from a fear comparison aspect ,which yr choice in case of : screen, camera quality and shutter speed ,video quality(some said its better in the OneX even with has low fps compared to O4X! ), and battery, thx ahead

This is not an answering machine...
Personally, I chose the LG because it has exchangable battery and micro SD slot. They both have Tegra 3 and good displays, so it's no big difference hardware-wise. HTC has a large fanbase, so you'll have more custom roms on the HOX, plus the possibility to unlock your bootloader with HTCdev. LG might learn and do something similar, but as they're not open in saying what they do, no one can tell.
I was checking on eBay yesterday cuz I want a LG O4X and saw there was a developer version kinda like the Razr has one too... can anyone confirm this?

Will the one have a feature like the lg and samsung where it can use both cameras at the same time?

Not that's been highlighted in the reviews at this moment. I doubt this will be something available when the device launches, but we can be hopeful that HTC will add this feature. I doubt it will happen, but it's good to be hopeful.

I'm sure it's capable, but there's the interest of doing it that the developers need to have before something like this takes flight. If you could find a developer that is interested in making it happen, then it could be possible. But to be honest, it's really too early in the game to start worrying about it. Still need to start with S-OFF, rooting, custom recovery, ROMs, kernels, etc. If any developer on here could chime in and give their input???
Why on earth would one want to use both cameras simultaneously? I'm not sure there would be a real world use for this. Can anyone think of any?

My sentiments exactly, that's more of a novelty feature than it is useful. It's just something for the manufacturer to day the can do out. Just like 3D cameras and dual screens it's a novelty. In glad sprint decided top keep the phone as it was designed. All I hope for is for HTC to do a better job of realising sources on a timely matter an a quick upgrade to 4.2.2
something clever goes here...

Seems like a hassle more than anything. It would just mean you have to line up a shot on you and on the other person at the same time. It's something I'd never use. Now, the EVO 3D. I loved using that camera. Good thing my wife still has my old one.

Whatever floats your boat.
I'm sure some app developer will create an app that mimics Samsung's functionality. It just seems like a farfetched idea so no one has thought of or even undertaken the development of such an app yet.
Keep your eyes on the play store and the forums, I'm sure one will pop up soon (If not already).

How will you rate oneplus3 at ? 1-10
Do mention the reasons ..
I m using oneplus1 and confused if I should buy it or not?
I have it since Saturday. I'd recommend it to anyone who's in the market for a new phone for whatever reason they might have. For me, it offers the best overall package in the Android world right now. If you don't mind ugly OEM skins (I do), you could probably go with the S7 line or if you don't mind spending more cash, then the HTC10.

I always planned on get op3,but as my contract was up I got a HTC 10, very nice phone but didn't strike me as much of an upgrade on my two year old xeperia Z2. Got my op3 yesterday and is given me more of a buzz than the HTC, which is on ebay.
Personally I'd recommend it wholeheartedly, the only thing missing for me is SD support, and with Google breaking that in mm, I don't really see that as an issue anymore.
A solid 9/10 from me.
Absolutely. For the money, it's a great feeling, solid phone that really flows. If you want to spend a lot, the yea, buy a Samsung or an HTC. For near stock strong contender with excellent customisation ability, get OP3 - 9/10 (not perfect because of the memory issue and no SD slot)

I agree... but the RAM should be optimized further in future Oxygen builds? In my experience, the SD card has created issues when it becomes corrupt... and it won't be as fast as reading from internal memory (good rebuttal from OP). It would be easy to say they should have offered a 128GB model but I know they wanted to keep costs down as much as possible. I've found with the previous OP devices that 64GB is just enough for my requirements
One issue I have is it was great they made all the Kernel sources available... but not the Dash Charge?? wtf lol
Mine is still in the mail so I can't officially recommend it but based on all the reviews I've read so far it's very promising :highfive:

Proximity ambient display prob. and camera performance
How u guys are finding the proximity display hand waving waving feature in your OP3 ..in my case im finding not so smooth...means I have to wave my hand very closely to the device screen to lit it... is it the same with u guys or just waving hand over frm a distance is doing the thng for u..kindly reply and also give solutions on how can I improve on the same.
Camera performace I guess is pretty gud in OP3 ..ya focusing closer objects is an issue...(it takes some time) but i guess thts just a software glitch...which can be corrected via updates....rest the phone till now hasnt disappointed
without a doubt id recommend this thing to anyone. its even got dev support before most people have it in hand. thats about on par with the nexus phones.
Guys!! I'm totally blown away in the first hour here!!!! Amazing amazing! Not one single complaint... See screenshots and photos.. The device is completely bone stock. Just totally amazed so far. Maybe a 7/10. The hardware is great for $400, but the stock software has weird bugs, like camera photos coming out green unless I use raw, and I've heard the customer service is a nightmare if you have to deal with them. At least the developer support is booming so far. CM and PA save the day again.

Yes sir! I've had almost every Android device on the market since I don't know when and this device has impressed me more than anyone I've had yet.. nothing about it that's wrong!! The camera is simply amazing, screen is great, size is perfect, feels great in the hand!!! And I'm comparing it with the 6p and HTC 10 both of which were/are my daily drivers! Time will tell on battery life and stability but so far I haven't found a single bug.

My first video - A Note 9 (exynos) review from a regular user's perspective

Hi guys.. i made my first video for YouTube. Have been reviewing phones for a while but for 3rd parties.
This time did my own thing.
Please have a look and share your feedback.. do you guys like it?
Starting small and looking for your feedback.
Thanks

I like the video generally, a much better job than I could do. :good:
2 points (they are my opinions only remember haha);
1) when you do the photo comparisons section, the music/ theme of the review seems to suddenly change, and then change back. It doesn't flow.
2) Again, in the photo comparison section, all the photos are pixelated. You get an overall idea of image comparison, but pixelated images are a shame!
Top man for doing it though, keep on keeping on!

I didn't see all of it yet, but what I saw looked pretty good. I noticed the pixelated photos too, so would be good if you can fix that. Personally I would say make them fill the screen more too, even if you have to crop them to do them both together, or one after the other.
Another very small point, but when you're sat in front of the camera on the steps, there's too much sky. It is a small point, but it's a pet peeve of mine, usually from people taking photos. They put the head in the centre of the shot and end up with loads of sky or ceiling ?
Love that you have a proper/half decent mic though, so many reviewers don't bother about audio.
I like it!

This is amazing.. amazing feedback. I'll make note of your feedback and will work on it in my next video.
About the mic.. starting slow as all good things are quite expensive but hopefully will increase the equipment standard in coming videos.

Thanks for the tip.. will work on it too
I like it. I watched the whole video and can say well done. Keep up the good work. The thing that got me was the title "Don't buy the Note 9". I was like ugh here we go a hater video. Quite the opposite.

I like the video generally, a much better job than I could do. :good:
2 points (they are my opinions only remember haha);

Well done. Great attitude. I hope you had something under it when you dropped it..lol but again very well done.
Sent from my SM-N935F Note FE
I would say really good review. At one point I thought the transitions were getting a little much, but it's only a small thing and might not bother most people. I missed you talking to the camera yourself though
