Flashing problems - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a flashing problem, I don't know how to explain very well, every time I try to flash a kernel/mod etc via recovery, it disapears after rebooting the system, it won't stick there! I tried to upgrade from thunderzap to siri via CWM, and it didn't upgrade.. So I made a fresh install, flashed JB via odin, everything was fine, but now I can't flash anything via recovery, not even the CWM recovery, It shows that it's successfully flashed, but it simply disappears after the first reboot, I need held really bad. I can't find something similar, it can be a hardware problem? I successfully flashed root, but can't do nothing more, it will not "stay" in my phone. Devs, what do you think I should try?

First, CWM can't be flashed via recovery and stay. That is temp CWM. You need to install kernel with integrated CWM. You need to unpack SIRI zip, to get CWM flashable instalation. You probabli just flashed zip that contains both kernels, dd, and CWN flashable. Did you get success message after instaling it?
Sent from Galaxy S Advance

If you don't know the DD commands you can also download Universal Kernel Flash Tool and flash using this simple APP.
All you need is to download the "kernel.bin.md5" you want to flash to your phone, load it with the app and press flash (explanation in the link).

Yeah, it is successfull! For example from stock recovery I flash the CWM update zip (the separate version, as in instructions). The recovery is now CWM, I can flash everything, it says successfull, but it doesen't "stay" in my phone after reboot. Should I asume is a hardware problem? Flashing via Odin is working, flashing root zip is working as well.
I also tried flashing siri RC3 (with CWM integrated) via Terminal Emulator, it worked, but the phone it's still broken, when I try to update to RC4 via recovery, or flash anything else, it is flashed, it shows that the installing was successfully but after reboot.. boom it isn't there

How did you flash CWM. You used that Temporary CWM. Like you do not listen to me. It is Temporary because it will not stay. You need to install kernel with CWM. Because it is on the same partition. SO YOU CAN'T INSTALL CWM WITHOUT KERNEL. IT WILL BE PERMANENT ONLY WHEN IT IS INSTALED INTEGRATED INSIDE OF KERNEL. Any of our JB custom kernels have permanent CWM.

It seems i'm not a too good explainer. Is there any way to make screenshots in recovery? I will show you step by step

I installed siri RC3 via terminal emulator, now I have permanent CWM, but I can't flash anything with it, even if it says the kernel is successfully upgraded, etc. I don;t know how to take screenshots in recovery, but I have those:

It seems I can't flash anything via recovery, stock or CWM it doesen't make a difference, but terminal emulator or odin are fine. Another mention: I know I am kinda noob, but i'm not retarded, I know hot to use recovery, it worked fine since today...

Hm, lets do one test. I will make you flashable zip with some application and you see if it is installed. Just to figure out what app to put in system.
P.S. No, do one thing. Backup your ROM in CWM. Then use Frapeti's CWM that deodex ROM. And see if all *.odex files are gone from system/app.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2095301
Or try black status bar mod from there. If it is changed to black, that it is working normaly.

The status bar mod worked (I did it before deodex and it worked, so I think it doesn't require deodex.. doesn't matter)
I installed deodex zip, it worked.. So the problem is only when I flash kernles or mods that are .zip ... I think I will stick to stock with a kernel that doesn't require flashing and that's all.. if you can find an answer I will be very thankful anyway.

And what file did you use for kernel, post link to see is it CWM flashable. You can't just zip it and install.

Siri kernel RC4 http://www.tusfiles.net/w043syx4a7hg
There are other things that "disappear" after flashing like moded lockscreen or moded sms. It will just not flsuh zips, I can't explain why terminal emulator is working, or why deodex.zip is installing.. I'm too tired to figure it out. Can you learn me another way to flash the RC4 kernel without recovery? thunderzap is a little choppy and siri RC3 has some vibrator bugs wich make it unusable for daily use.

You did unpack this zip and used I9070_CWM_FLASHABLE_SIRI_KERNEL_rc-4.zip? You should't flash I9070_SIRI_KERNEL_Rc-4_PACKAGE.zip. Because it contains CWM flashable zip, that you should flash, and kernel that should be flashed with DD command. It is a package, just for easy download.
And you can't flash ThunderZap from its official thread with CWM. It can be only instaled with DD command method.
For SMS you need to remove current secmms.apk to make new work. And to remove secmms.odex if you are not deodexed.
I think there is no problem with your instalations in CWM, just need to figure out how things work.

Thanks man, I totally forgot about that! I was so worried about the broken flashing thing that I forgot, thank you a lot, i will just flash with dd.

[IMPORTANT]eternal.sumit's IMPLEMENTED GUIDE to LG thrill 4G!!

As per the title I've already tested the stuffs successfully and as per my experience I posted this guide. I want to help you guys too!!
INSTALL LG DRIVERS FOR PC:
1.Extract the zip and install drivers from setup.
http://www.mediafire.com/?eec7g8dekfggwag
ROOT LG Thrill 4G:
1.Make sure your phone is not set to read mass storage only.
Setting>SD card & phone storage setting>uncheck “mass storage only”.
2.Turn on Usb debugging
Setting>application>development>check “USB debugging”
3.Connect phone to PC via USB cable.
4.Be careful don’t click “turn on mass storage” and leave the phone as it is.
IF you are on stock ANDROID 2.2.2(froyo):both megatron_windows and super one click roots your phone.
{however I prefer megatron_windows than super one click as it has less probability to freeze than super one click.when I was on froyo I had to try 2nd time by super one click to root}
IF you are on stock ANDROID 2.3.5(gingerbread):only megatron_windows roots your phone.
Megatron_windows” root:
-After you have followed upto step 4 & connected your phone to PC,open “run” batch file as administrator, from the extracted folder.
-when batch windows pops up press enter .It will start rooting. It will reboot 2 to 3 times your phone while rooting. After it finishes rooting,it will prompt to press any key on batch windows.Hit enter and your phone is rooted.

“super one click” root:
- After you have followed upto step 4 & connected your phone to PC,open main super one click app from extracted folder and click “root”,wait for sometime until a message box “ says your phone is successfully rooted “and Run SU test, when it says SU test success your phone is rooted.
Download super one click from:
http://www.apkfullapps.com/2012/01/superoneclick-v233-apk-app.html
Now you can enjoy any root needing powerful apps such as “Titanium backup”.
FLASHING CWM RECOVERY & MAKING YOUR 1ST NANDROID BACKUP:
Flashing CWM is very vital for playing around with custom ROMs and before you flash any custom ROM by CWM it is must to make nandroid backup so that you can flash back to your custom ROM in case anything goes wrong.
Until there’s nandroid backup on your SD card and you don’t replace CWM recovery with your stock recovery you can go to your stock ROM any time you wish and hence there’s no risk of phone brick.
IMPORTANT:YOU CAN ONLY FLASH FROYO BASED CUSTOM ROM ON 2.2.2(FROYO).LG THRILL GINGER BREAD CUSTOM ROMS CAN ONLY BE FLASHED AFTER YOU UPDATE YOUR PHONE FIRMWARE TO ANDROID 2.3.5(GINGERBREAD).
FLASH TOUCH VERSION CWM RECOVERY:
Our LG thrill supports touch CWM recovery which best and efficient among other CWM recovery.so I will guide you through touch recovery.

http://www.mediafire.com/?m0jbk4eprv4b331
2. turn on the USB-Debugging
3. connect your phone via usb with the PC
4. click "LGP920_CWM_5.8.1.5_Flasher.exe" to start the flash tool
5. choose Y to start flashing or N to cancel
6. your phone reboots after finishing
7.press any key to close the tool
HOW TO START INTO CWM-Recovery:
1.turn off your phone
2.start it with holding ower + VolDown(-) + 3D-key
MAKING YOUR 1ST NANDROID BACKUP:
1.Boot into CWM
2.Click “backup and restore”>click “backup”
3.After making backup finishes click “reboot system”.
{Note:copy your backup file to PC.In case you lost backup accidentally oh mass storage you can copy again from PC to mass storage or SD card.Copy “clockwordmod” folder from root of your phone memory or SD card to pc. If you lose backup file from phone paste it back to phone storage or SD card.}
FLASHING CUSTOM ROMs:
1.Boot to CWM recovery
2.go to “wipe data/factory reset” and wipe data
3.go to “wipe cache partition” and wipe cache
4.go to “advanced”>”wipe dalvik cache” and wipe dalvik cache
5.After you have cleared all 3 caches as above,go to”install zip from sd card”>if you have ROM(zip) on sd card select ”choose zip from sd card” else select “choose from internal sdcard”>choose the required ZIP file as ROM and install.
6.when proccess completes Reboot phone and you will boot into your custom ROM when phones starts.
HOW TO RESTORE NANDROID BACKUP IN CASE OF SYSTEM FAILURE:
In case there is problem on your custom ROM.
1.start into CWM Recovery as like instructed earlier.
2.Click” backup and restore”>click “restore”
3.choose the backup file of stock ROM you backed up before, which is named to the date when you created your backup.
4.after the restoration completes click ”reboot system”.
5.when phone restarts it will boot directly to your saved state of stock ROM.

My Recovery Manager has stock Android Recovery, ClockworkMod, and Touch ClockworkMod.
Thumbs up on illustration!
FroYo ROMS can be rooted with SuperOneClick without any problems. Gingerbread uses Megatron Root.
I haven't finished the rest of my guide yet. I still have a .txt file with stuff I need to add. The last two are ones that are on the bottom of my list.

As there is already an update for ginger bread.I think flashing custom ROM compatible for 2.3.5 only makes vital sense.so i meant to update firmware to gingerbread to users to enjoy GB based custom ROM.I don't think custom ROM for froyo is good idea, thats why i advise users to update their ROM to gingerbread for enjoying custom GB ROM on it which is stable and fast.
any way what you said is correct.so I am editing the post...

I have been going CRAZY for the past few weeks trying to root my rogers Thrill 4G with 2.3.5. The Megatron_windows trick worked from the first try. As did CWM recovery. Thanks a bunch for this how-to.

Captivate won't load E:

Hello everyone,
I'm new to rooting and ROM's so I've been playing around since my Captivate's speaking is broken and of no use (I have a Note now.) I was using CornKernel and had installed CM 10.1 but the nightly I had installed was horrible and I wanted to revert to stable I HAD been running. Anyways, had a problem restoring the stable so I did a battery pull.
I could no longer get into CornKernel recovery, so I flashed Semaphore's ClockworkMod Recovery from CM's install directions. I now get this error I AM able to get into download, but not load any .zip's via this new recovery:

you flashed an old version of cwm and it isn't compatible with cm10, I think.
if you can get into download mode and flash stock kk4 via usb and odin or heimdall, you should be able to recover. then you can do corn to get cwm back.
If you have a cwm backup of your stable 10.1 rom on a dropbox or google drive, don't try to recover it using Corn Kernel version of cwm. Do the full wipe, factory reset and flash stable CM10.0 plus appropriate gapps from Corn kernel. Then restore your backup, if you have it.

Thing is, I pushed via ODIN, Cornkernel again (same I originally used) and it loads, but then the status bar (phone) just sits at full and won't show the recovery menu. I then tried CWM and got the error in the image. So why won't Cornkernel work?
I'll try KK4 later tomorrow.
Like I said, I'm new at this.
I can't flash anything from internal SD at all. It just comes up and says can't read from E: I tried CornKernel again, the CWM kernel in the CM instructions, and a stock kernel. Both stock and the CM kernel (the pic in 1st post) go into recovery but don't do anything but give errors/invalid arguments. CornKernel just reboots after the splash screen. I've done the factory reset, dalvik and cache partition cleared.
stock:
from your screenshot, you are still on wrong version of cwm, I think. Corn doesn't use 3e.
Can you get into download mode? that is the yellow triangle with the shovelling androbot.

I didn't screenshot Corn. The 1st screenshot is Semaphore's ClockworkMod Recovery, found here, step 1: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_captivatemtd
2nd is a stock KK4 kernel I found as suggested in previous posts.
Yes, download mode works fine. ODIN detects the phone, but Windows won't let me put anything into the E: internal storage, or external for that matter.
The image you posted is stock 3e recovery on a kk4 rom, and not CWM recovery.
you need to install Corn kernel via usb with either odin or helmdall. You can find the corn kernel in captivate development forum. It will change your existing kk4 rom by replacing the kernel and will add CWM recovery that you need, but it will still be a kk4 rom, because it doesn't change the android OS.
I flashed Corn, this is what I get. Flashed it 3 times, same result.
Just sits there.
did you flash a complete kk4 rom, verify that you are rooted, before flashing corn? if not, then, do so. see TRusselo's thread in stickies for links to complete stock kk4. you will need to do it via usb. then get rooted, then flash corn.
the full rom will be a larger tar file that will take a long time to flash.
you might want to use full odin, rather than the oneclick versions. I am assuming you are using odin 1.85 for windows. you are going to put a tar file in the pda slot, then flash the complete stock kk rom first, then root the phone. wipe the cache, wipe the dalvik cache, and do a complete boot. then verify you have root, with an app like root checker, or run superuser to check - it wont run if your are not rooted.
if all that checks out, then go back to download mode, and flash corn from odin.

CWM Recovery for ICS?

Hi,
I've using LG Optimus Black for 2 years and haven't upgrade my device with custom ROM. As you know, Instagram doesn't run on ICS and I'm tired of it. Finally I decide install custom ROM. I rooted my phone with UnlockRoot but I can't install CWM Recovery.
What am I doing wrong and what should I do?

Please do not try to install CWM on ICS. You'll get a security error and will have to unbrick your device!
If you already have ICS stock on your phone, there is a simply procedure, that will allow you to get CWM again, but you'll have to install a new ROM via Smartflashtool.
1. You need a V20 ROM, that has been patched with CWM, like THIS ONE.
2. You need Smartflashtool
3. Download Superuser.zip from here: http://downloads.noshufou.netdna-cdn...arm-signed.zip and put it on your SD card.
4. Unpack the V20S patched .7z file
5. Flash the .bin file using SFT
6. Your phone will reboot to recovery
7. Do a factory reset and if you wanna stick with a rooted v20S, just flash the superuser.zip and reboot. If you already want to install a custom ROM, just put that on your sd card and flash it (see how to install a custom ROM).
8. Reboot and enjoy your new ROM

A v20 firmware (stock ROM) with CWM included you can download from here
And the link to Superuser.zip seems to be broken..download this(here is also included a firmware...you can use this firmware or you can download another from link above), here you can find Smartflashtool, Superuser.zip and the USB driver( you need to install this to let smartflashtool(also shorted as SFT) to detect your phone)
A detailed tutorial about how to flash with SFT:
An explanation about this tutorial.. the files from 3 and 4 (CP and AP) are the firmware files (this is what you had downloaded)

1. Unpack SFT.rar that contains SmartFlash Tool program.
2. Unpack, preffered C: drive, firmware pack BIN_LGP970AT-00-V10a-EEU-XXX-MAY-09-2011_0.zip
Inside there will be 2 files: LGP970AT-00-V10a-EEU-XXX-MAY-09-2011+0_AP.bin i LGP970AT-00-V10a-EEU-XXX-MAY-09-2011+0_CP.fls.
3. Run B_SmartFlashTool_Extern.exe
4. Choose:
1) ROM copy D/L bookmark
2) in Select mode choose Normal mode
3) choose CP file: LGP970AT-00-V10a-EEU-XXX-MAY-09-2011+0_CP.fls
4) choose AP file: LGP970AT-00-V10a-EEU-XXX-MAY-09-2011+0_AP.bin
*) connect phone in S/W Update mode with battery in it (on the phone that is switched off, plug in USB cable WHILE HOLDING Vol+ button)
5) choose COM port.
6) choose LGE Mobile USB Serial Port in Communication Driver
7) click Start and wait till end.
It takes about 3 mins to flash.
After successfully flashing, phone will reboot and make Factory Reset.
And that's all!

I've done every step. I flashed 20D ROM and my phone was reboot. In CWM screen, I did factory reset and select "choose a .zip from SD card" Superuser.zip. After that I rebooted my phone. But I want to install custom ROM (example: Nameless ROM) now, what will I do? So how can I see CWM screen again?

Now, you choose a custom ROM..i don't recomand you Nameless ROM because isn't stable yet, but you can try it...i noticed that they are working hard to that ROM:-? it will be great
I recommend you IZS. It is a very stable and fast ROM based on ICS .. look here ..you have somewhere a BIG title called "INSTRUCTIONS" every ROM has flash instructions.. there are same instructions to flash a ROM..but to flash an update to a ROM may be different, so pay attention to update instructions to every ROM
Now to acces the CWM you can download from google store this app
So..basically to flash a ROM you have to:
1) Go in recovery menu (CWM)
2) Do a data, cache and dalvik cache wipe (you will find dalvik cache wipe to tab "advanced")
3) Choose: flash zip from sd card
4) Choose ROM zip and flash it

You had used the right namelessROM file? http://sourceforge.net/projects/nam...less-4.4.2-20140412-p970-NIGHTLY.zip/download
That supposed to work..try again like this:
-Download this and put it on your sd card http://goo.gl/rurEY ...these are GAPPS..in other words this is google store app..not all ROMs have GAPPS included, some time you have to flash it by your own
-go in CWM
-be sure that you do a data wipe ,cache wipe and dalvik cache wipe..
-install ROM with flash zip from sd card
-install GAPPS with flash zip from sd card

Yeah, I know it. I thought Instagram may be improved and updated it. But this hasn't fixed yet. So I installed Instagram 3.4.0 but it says "Your version of Instagram out of date". Then I updated and install again 3.4.0 when I'm login, but I seem log out.

[Q] I9000 2.3.3 CM installation Assistance needed

I hate to post a thread about this.
But I searched and searched but cannot find the particulars of what I need help with specifically.
I wouldn't have registered if I didn't think I could get around it without some help.
Here is the situation.
Galaxy S GT-I9000 came with Android 2.3.3 installed, No further updates are on offer when I try to update.
Phone is slow and aweful, Going to install CM
What I have.
CM installer, PC and Android applications.
Heimdall client 1.4.0 in Zip.
CM-10.1.2-GalaxySMTD in Zip.
Recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.2-galaxys
And that Windows C++ thing (I have no idea what it is for, Tutorial just told me to download it)
The exe I downloaded and installed is vcredist_x86
Now then, Because the tutorials I've read mention the phone being either 2.2.3 or 2.3.6 but not 3.3
causes me concern, I do not know what I am doing, I do not want to risk muddling my way through,
I would like to get the installation of Cyanogen done as quickly as possible as my phone is in Limbo
I did a factory reset after backing everything up, I have lost all Marketplace apps but still have the apps from Amazon.
I request the help of somebody with experience with installing roms on this particular phone,
I tried the CM installer from Amazon and from the website directly, Both when used in conjunction with the PC installer
simply told me that my device was not supported.
This leaves me with trying futile diagnostics to try and make it work, however as my phone is my modem
for internet use, I really cannot have a phone in limbo on this issue.
As for the custom installation well, I don't know where to begin,
I really have no idea what ClockworkMod recovery really is, or how I install it, I have never "rooted"
Anything besides a PSP before, and the fact the tutorial just tells me to "root" to get CWM installed
just opens up a whole new can of worms and more reading that just further confuses and frustrates me.
Please if anybody can help, and put things in straight forward terms, I would greatly appreciate it.
I hope the info provided is sufficient any further questions, ask

I Thank you for finding that, as I did not, But I did read it last night and tried my best. The results are not good.
It's pretty much just leading to me downloading more software, then google searching how to use it. and it just goes on. an unending can of worms.
Install CM11 okay simple enough, First get Clockworkmod Recovery, Okay, CWM needs Root, Okay? How do I root? Well get Odin and Flash this Rom you never heard of, and to use Odin you first need to get CWM and use Heimdall and then Root and then Heimdall and then Odin then CWM then Root then Odin then Heimdall then Flash Image then Partition thingy stuff and more jargon then root Heimdall Flash CM then Put CWM on.

Don't get me started on a tutorial where I lookup another tutorial for software mentioned in first tutorial, that tells me to download some rom or hack or piece of software, that is a file I NEVER heard of, and needs an Unzipper, or something.
I'm not being deliberately inept, I just cannot do this unless it's step by step and comprehensive, Not to mention I cannot go downloading stuff I end up not needing, or simply has no use, Phone data is not cheap.
It is really simple.
Do the following (assuming you want to install Cyanogenmod 9 (ICS)):
Download XXJVU (Firmware)
Download Odin 1.83 (latest supported version for I9000)
Make sure the Samsung USB Drivers are installed
Disable/uninstall KIES
Backup your contacts/sms/pictures etc
Boot into Download mode (Volume down + Home + Power)
Open Odin
Unpack XXJVU. You will get 3 files
Click PDA and choose the *CODE.tar file
Click CSC and choose the *CSC.tar file
Click PHONE and choose the *MODEM.tar file
Make sure re-partition is not checked
Connect your device to your computer
Click Start and wait (A box will turn green and will say PASS!)
Then you need to Root your device in order to install a custom ROM
Download CF-Root
Open Odin
Click PDA and choose the file you downloaded
Boot into Download mode and connect your device to your computer
Click Start and wait
Now to install the custom ROM do the following:
Download CyanogenMod 9.1.0
Boot into Recovery (Volume up + Home + Power)
Wipe Data, Cache & Dalvik Cache
Select Install from SD card and then select the ROM you downloaded
Select Yes and wait (your device will reboot and then boot in your new ROM)

Well it is simple when people like you write well paced yet comprehensive guides, Good news too, I got my internet connection back so I can download all the tools, stick em in a folder and get down to business.
I am guessing you can install any version of CM (Jelly Bean, Kit Kat etc) So long as it is the correct build for the correct phone (in this case GT-i9000)
Odin is better than Heimdall? I have Heimdall already, I'll grab the USB drivers, I don't remember if I even downloaded them, if I did I wouldn't know what they were called at the time.
The Wiki returns results on Odin saying things such as "Unofficial leaked software" blah blah something about Heimdall being more user friendly.
Anyway I will read the guide and hope it all goes smooth from now on
It is not advised to install the latest versions of CM (i.e. JB or KK) straight from stock because you might lose your IMEI.
The correct way is to install ICS first and the JB or KK.
Heimdall is good but for someone who never flashed a ROM before ODIN is the way to go.

The IMEI on the device itself that allows you to use cellular networks or just the copy google and all those apps sneakily grab?
It really reminds me of flashing a PSP ah, so un-straightforward it was amazing I didn't screw up.
Btw the Rom had Odin 1.8.3 already damn, I got two copies.
Well I have everything I need, I already wiped and backed up my phone, still have my USB files on there, no doubt they will be gone when I do the reboot wipe.
Oh wait, I got CF and I downloaded Clockworkmod recovery a few days ago, Hope they are correct.
I take it that when I complete installation all the google stuff gets put back on from the stock rom?
On a final note, aside from needing more speed, I really look forward to trying those privacy features or apps that can restrict access to personal info, and also keep my IMEI out of access, from Play store or anywhere else, I was pretty furious that such a unique ID that nobody but your cellular provider has the right to know is so easily leaked out on smartphones.

You don't need to separately download Clockworkmod recovery. CF-Root includes it.
If you want all the Google stuff you need to download Gapps (Google Apps) and flash it through Recovery.

So to be clear, Once I install Cyanogen ICS I will not have access to the Market/Playstore until I flash the Gapps package onto the phone?
Update. CF installed, ICS installed, stuck in boot loop till I reinstalled from sd card (ACTUAL sd Card)
I dunno what to think of Cyanogen Mod so far, I was hoping it would have more choice of skins/launchers, particularly just classic stock Android, Anyway the original ROM is gone, So I now have CF+Stock or CM9
The CWM app is gone since I installed CM9 but the Droid Superuser is still there, Is there anything more besides getting access to my apps (Skype fb dropbox etc) That I need to install? one thing I do want to get done is find out what Privacy permissions thingie is best, I heard about LBE but couldn't use it, Now I can, any opinions?
By the way I cannot express how good this tutorial is, it's probably as easy as the CM installer app.

I put the stock ROM back on, the CM keyboard and weird touch sensitivity was annoying, Also no file explorer or task manager or anything that showed how much Ram was being used, It's just too un-ergonomic.
There are a lot of file explorers that you can download from the Play store that are hundreds of times better than the stock Galaxy S explorer. If you want a ROM with a built-in file explorer try CyanogenMod 11.
To see how much RAM is being used go to Settings -> Apps -> Running.
If you don't like the default keyboard you can always download a better one from the Play Store.
There are also hundreds of different ROMs to try that are way better than the stock ROM.

So there is no way to actually migrate your stock apps with you to CM from Gingerbead 2.3.6?
So this CF root what is that exactly? Just root access and superuser? because one thing I would like to be able to do is disable IMEI access before setting up a google account to install apps.
As I mentioned before, I am going to have another go at CM when I have the time, it's just a pain modding a phone you regularly use, I think at this point though even Cyanogen cannot improve my phone's performance, the battery sucks, everything force closes, slower than the phone I had before I bought this one, essentially..
Android gives me a headache these days..
By the way I've passed on your guide to others who have Galaxy phones and express an interest in rooting,
They would want to know about how to do it for more recent models, so you might at some point get people asking you for help

CF-root is a kernel & custom recovery package. TW based apps can not be migrated to custom ROMs, but many other can. If your apps are synced with your Google account, every custom ROM that uses GApps will automatically reinstall your apps short time after first reboot. It takes me about 30min to setup whole the phone in the new OS. Use my sticky thread on this section for another info, especially regarding backups. Try Mackay ICS CM9 2014, you won't belive it is the same phone.

[Q] [1572] Need help flashing modules

Yesterday I flashed hypeedrI've RLS20 on my stock rim, everything went smoothly and it installed however I did not have wifi. Since this was something I was used to I figured just roit and flash no problem, however towelroot requires wifi. Therefore what I need to know is how do I flash the NE3 modules without rooting, or how can I root without towelroot. Any help is appreciated.

You're supposed to flash the masterpatch v2 in Safestrap immediately after you flash the rom (i.e. before you reboot) and as for root, you are supposed to flash Update-SuperSU-v2.46.zip upon install, right after the masterpatch (again, before reboot).
In safestrap, in this order, all before your first reboot:
Rom
Masterpatch v2
Update-SuperSU.zip
Just checking to make sure, your post says 1572, but your phone is really the I537, right? The I572 is a different phone...

Sounds like you're going to have to Odin back to stock NE3 in order to get the rom working correctly, but don't worry, it's fairly straightforward if you do it correctly. I've attached Odin v3.09 to this post, simply extract the folder to your desktop and run the program. Before doing any of this make sure whatever data, media, settings, etc. that you want to save are all backed up somewhere other than your phone's internal memory; Odin will wipe your phone's memory clean.
1. Download the stock NE3 Odin files from the link in the OP of this thread and extract to your PC somewhere easy to remember
2. Boot your phone into download mode by holding home, volume down, and power and selecting continue. Run Odin and connect your phone to your PC via USB, Odin should recognize your phone almost right away
3. Load the AP, CP, and CSC files (I don't use the BL file), it should look exactly like below:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
4. MAKE SURE REPARTITION IS NOT SELECTED. Assuming the appropriate files are loaded and your phone is properly connected, hit start, DO NOT INTERRUPT IT OR UNPLUG YOUR PHONE. Should take up to five minutes or so, it will reboot into stock recovery at some point, again, just leave it be and let it do its thing.
5. Once the phone reboots into the normal old NE3, you'll have to root it using towelroot. Then install Safestrap, download the rom file, the masterpatch v2 (make sure it's v2), and that SuperSU zip I linked to in my earlier post, all to your phone's storage.
6. When in Safestrap recovery, simply do the following - wipe (default settings), install rom, install masterpatch v2, install SuperSU. Then reboot.

Installation from SD should be fine. Odin flashing back to stock is the only part of this process that WILL erase the phone's internal storage, guaranteed. It's also the only way I know to fix WiFi and to allow a correct re-installation of the ROM, given the circumstances @p_eros described.

No don't do that. But have you tried removing the aroma files and folders from META-INF/com/google/android inside the zip and then editing out the aroma parts from the update-script ? Idk if that could work, but it sounds like it might, as long as the update-script is written properly

No don't do that. But have you tried removing the aroma files and folders from META-INF/com/google/android inside the zip and then editing out the aroma parts from the update-script ? Idk if that could work, but it sounds like it might, as long as the update-script is written properly
Edit: hold off on that, my-blue-snog-box MIGHT be doing it for you

So basically you're talking about editing the script so that it skips aroma, while still installing the desired components of the rom itself? also any news on if the person you mentioned has edited the script?
