I've been on the fence about the smart shell 'cause I don't usually like cases with the front flap... but at $15 including next day shipping (Prime rocks), it's worth a try.

Don't bother ordering if you're in the UK:

If you need me, I'm gonna be sulking in the corner :crying:

I hate how the metal plate could potentially come into contact with the screen. You grab it wrong and could push the flap sliding it over the screen, the metal plate will scratch the gorilla glass.

Yeah there concerns about that. Some use plastidip. I think I'm going to remove the metal plate and wrap the part that would come in contact with the screen with electric tape
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD

Or a screen protector would help too right? I'm gonna have to find my can of plastidip! If there's real friction though the dip will probably just peel right off and scratch the glass

I mentioned in another thread that the plastidip company now makes a primer that supposedly makes it stick better to metal. You might try that if you are worried about peeling...

I opted for the genuine leather version of the Moko slim fit multi angle case. Absolutely perfect! Very nicely finished, fits beautifully, looks great. Opening for Pogo charger (stitched all around too). A bit more than the PU leather version, but it is very nice for $21.

This can't be true. It would depend on so many factors such as the specific metal, the shape of the metal where it comes into contact (a point, an edge, a curve..), the force of contact, etc. Gorilla glass isn't some mystical impervious material.
---------- Post added at 10:47 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:40 AM ----------
Just received my ultra-slim Moko. For $6 it's nice but I really wouldn't recommend it for a few reasons.
1) As mentioned before, the metal piece on the cover could potentially come in contact with your screen and scratch it.
2) When closed, the cover slides around. This is very obnoxious when you are walking around with your tablet in one hand. Basically, if you hold it vertical, the cover slides up while the tablet slides down from its weight. Over time this is just going to get worse as the cover loosens.
3) I'm having lots of trouble making it stand up in both positions and stay put. The triangle fold does not hold, I think due to poor choice of the size of each edge of the triangle. Maybe with time it will get better but it hasn't so far.
Overall this thing is just flimsy, although it does look and feel nice to the touch.

Yeah. No side protection and if you saw the back picture, there will be little open spots on the corners. It's a good protector to use with a case, not by itself unless you don't mind the sides being open to scratches.
I haven't used the screen part though. I got impatient with waiting for the bubbles to disappear.

Metal bumper case question.. For those who own one.

Does your metal bumper case have a slight raise from the side to prevent scratches to both front and back especially the camera lens?
Do you think it would fit with a slim case?
Please post a link where you bought it.

I bought one a couple of weeks ago. I think the aluminium case gives good screen protection, but although it is reasonably low profile the few millimetres each side do seem to make the Note 2 feel much bigger. I personally don't think it's the most elegant case, they look OK from the front, but the back doesn't seem to follow the flow of the stock battery case too well.
Don't get me wrong, the phone fits in perfectly without any movement but not my cup of tea. I lose one bar on the phone signal when the case is on, NFC is fine.
Possibly a like or hate accessory!
Thanks for all the replies. That was my main concern. I wanted a metal bumper case that has a slight rise to protect the camera lens. I'm going to buy a ballistic 3 layer protection case since GN2 can be easily damage even at waist height drop.
Why ballistic? Because its relatively cheap, unlike otterbox and offers awesome drop protection. Had one for E4GT and money worth spending.
Thanks again.

i use that one. slight raises on the front and back to protect the camera. It adds a little weight to the phone but its not unbearable. I actually like it. I also got the armror suit military shield screen and back protector. Screen protector was not compatible with the case, cause when I removed the phone from the case, the sliding portion of the front peeled the screen protector off. and the added thickness of the armorsuit full body protector makes it very snug in the case. probably the reason why it the screen protector peeled off as I was trying to remove it.

i've got this bumper as well as the bumper previously posted. i find this one to be more durable and study and it also goes over the back which stops your back cover and camera lens from touching whatever surface you put it on.
both can limit your options with accessories though since the ports for the headphones jack and microusb port are quite small and can block some accessories (it blocks my htc car charger and asus n7 2A charger so i ended up using a saw to cut a bit off the microusb area. still sturdy and durable.
the only thing i didnt like was that these cases arent grippy, so im just using an xtremeguard skin on the battery door since it adds a lot more grip.

if i remember correctly, on the note 2, according to the samsung tear down, the antenna isnt in the top corner, its on the lower part of the backside of the device (next to the speaker). signal on my device has not been affected.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Aluminum-Al.../160898550396?ssPageName=ADME:L:eek:C:AU:3160
the cutouts are small and prevent you from using some accessories (some car chargers and headphones wont connect fully). its also only protecting the sides and the screen, it doesnt go over the back part at all so offers no back protection.
thats the reason why i ditched it for this one instead.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310537377953&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:AU:1123
this one has bigger cutouts, is slightly thicker (read sturdier and more durable) and goes over the back a bit as well to reduce the risk of grains of sand rubbing against your camera glass when you lay it on a table.
Ended up ordering this one.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1xMetal-Alu.../271113513041?ssPageName=ADME:L:eek:C:US:3160
The back is pennies to replace and I've put a small piece of screen protector over the camera, so I'm not too concerned about those two factors.

I have the gold push button aluminum bumper and the rounded silver zomgo bumper. Of the two I prefer the look of the zomgo however the opening for the usb port is way to small. I got a discount from the seller and dremeled the opening and the usb seats perfect now.
Originally I paired them with the matching aluminum battery cover however after trial and error I found the metal battery cover (not the bumper) was causing pretty serious the signal degradation. So I got the carbon fiber battery covers which work great without degrading the Wifi or LTE signal.

How durable is N2 without additional cases?

Do I really need a case ?
What quality are materials used for back camera glass (will it scratch), back and silver borders?
Will the phone scratch in above places, by jsut keeping it in clean pocket or on table ?
I am considering case-mate tough case (prolly only good case available in Poland)
Its not as durable as an iphone I would say. If it had real metal for the bezel you could go by without a case. The metallic bezel scratches easily on this one.

I would have to politely disagree. The iPhone has a poor design in terms of durability. The screen (glass) goes all the way to the edge of the phone, meaning its corner is exposed. This is a bad thing because no matter how durable glass is, a simple hit in its corner will surely crack it.
For example You can take a hammer to a shower door and give it a slight smack on its surface without breaking. However, give it a slight wack on its corner and the WHOLE thing will shatter. This explains how glass as durable as gorilla glass is capable of cracking.

Completely disagree. As another poster said, iphones shatter way more thanks to the edges of the glass being highly exposed to impacts.
But as to the OP's questions, why would you NOT protect such an expensive investment?

Do you like playing Russian roulette? Unless you have insurance plan with your carrier or somewhere else ($10 a month or something like SqTd for $100, and deductible which could end up being anywhere $100-$200), I would invest in a decent $20-$40 case.
Plenty of posts in this and other forums about people shattering the glass when dropped even with tpu case or other slim plastic cases. Battery door scratch or camera glass scratch will be your least worries when you drop your phone and see a spider web going across your screen from the corner. If you want just additional grip, slim case will do it. But for drop protection you need something beefier with a bumper/lip for protection.

Either of those would be fine. Check out link in my signature for all the cases I have tested/reviewed in this forum. Since it sounds like you don't want too much bulk, for a basic everyday use Tough would be an excellent choice with SURFACE being right behind it. If you are more paranoid and will be using your phone outdoors - UAG is great. If you doing heavy duty construction work outside, CONVERT or Defender will do it. If you want to make bling-bling statement, go with aluminum bumper and fancy carbon fiber battery cover
I'm using two cases now: a UAG for when I'm at work and a Seido Snap case as a general walking around case. Both cases allow me to hide an RFID card in them for work access.
The phone itself is too slippery NOT to be in a case.
I don't know how you guys are saying this phone is very slippery. Its pretty slick with no case. The matte cases make it more smooth and slippery iMO

I strongly recommend you the Samsung Protective Cover +.I think you can find it in online shops from Poland ,or stores like Orange ,Vodafone and so on.I bought it from an online shop from Romania. It's pretty cheap.Fits very well ,had it for 3 months It adds the right amount of bulk. It's like 10,3 mm I think. It has raised borders around the screen ,so if it falls,it won't touch the screen. The back is glossy ,but the sides are offering a great grip
Also doesn't affect S Pen ,NFC ,flash or something else. There are 3 colors available:Black White and Pink.Any of these colors has white borders.Do a google search and you'll see.Ah,forgot to mention:I dropped it one time with the case on,the only thing that happened is that the S Pen went flying.
I use an invisible shield and that's all. Unless you handle your phone without care, then a case isn't really necessary unless alcohol becomes part of the equation. I have dropped my phone with the flip cover on concrete, to see it slide down the road in pieces. It didn't break nor did it have any drop damage, but I feel if I had a case, the force would have been expelled through the screen.
Samsung protcrive cover + interested me. It is nice. Have rubber raised above screen and is cheaper than others.
Anyone care to share his opinion?

It was discussed as well before, rubber bumper is good, but the back part will scratch like hell. That was #1 complain about it. Also if you buy it online beware of CH cheap knockoffs.
My camera lens actually scratched somehow. Might have been when I accidentally put it in a pocket with my keys but I have never dropped it without a case on.

It didn't break nor did it have any drop damage, but I feel if I had a case, the force would have been expelled through the screen.

You are most certainly the exception and should consider yourself lucky... This forum is riddled with people who cracked their screen from minimal falls even while having a case on it.

Looking for a hip pouch/holster case...

Been driving myself crazy trying to find something like this and keep coming up empty. Basically I'm looking for a holster case where the belt loop(s) are on the top of the case, not the middle, so the top of the case sits at or below the belt line. These cases are exactly what I'm looking for but all of them are for <5" phones:
Golla Smart Bag
Universal? Pouch
If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated... been looking since I got this phone with no luck.
Try one of the timbuk2 phone accessory cases. I love mine. $20

I've done that plenty, the problem is I'm looking for something with the point of attachment to the belt in a different location that most cases... Please allow my terrible mspaint job to illustrate this.
I've about given up on the concept though, I think I'm going to have to jump ship to a Moto X or a Nexus 5 once they're available on the google play store. I love my Note 2 but it's just slightly too big for what I want to do with it

Attachment point seems higher than normal.
I believe it's hard to find because it makes it awkward to clip such a large device from the top. It makes it un-leveled compared to the center mounting point.

Here's the phone in the holster, on my belt. It's not eh... as gunslinger/drop style as it could be, but it keeps it out of the way well enough. If you're putting this on a standard sized belt (1.5-1.75 inches wide), you can probably turn it sideways.
Another in-holster pic.

The buckle retention clips in and there's a bungee that's attached to that. Very easily manipulated to hold even larger phones. I have no doubt this could hold ANY of the upcoming phones, since this is designed to also hold a Motorola XTS5000 radio.

@apallohadas: that is really badass!!! Looks much better on that belt than the other vertical pouch, but i think this one will be harder to take out? Although it will stay more secure inside when you are on a chase!

Takes a bit more finger manipulation than just slapping a velcro tab for sure. But I broke the stitching on the other pouch going over a short fence. Just had a foot chase the other day with this baby and it was solid
The obvious downside of this one is that it provides ZERO water/sand protection. It's literally just a holster. The inside surface is a hard nylon cloth, but both gorilla glass and/or a tempered glass screen protector has a higher hardness than nylon, so I'm not worried about the screen getting scratched.
If someone is working a construction site, beach, somewhere with lots of sand, this is not a good buy. For LEO's and the general public, just awesome.
