Hello, So I'm new to the Android Operating system, a bit of a windows guy, but not so much for linux. I Rooted my Kindle Fire HD, got the apex launcher, chrome...etc... I was removing amazon stuff that i didnt want and I accidentally removed SetupWizard.apk I noticed my navigation bar was gone. Here's were the true stupidity comes in. I Deleted SetupWizard.apk, I then reinstalled SetupWizard.apk from a Galaxy something
Now when i turn on my device, it loads up, says "Setup Wizard has stopped" and contiunes to inform me this everytime I hit ok. Can't change any settings, and the device is not able to be switched into adb mode, but it is recognized as simply a kindle on my PC. Is there any hope?? if i could get to settings im sure i could figure something out.

Do you have a factory cable?
If you don't you can order one from skorpn
or you can make one if you know how to solder
Once you have it, it's easy to deal with your problem

The factory cable is a little different. But, you may not need one.
Turn your device off and enter the following command:
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
When you see "waiting for device" turn your KFHD on and that should put it in fastboot mode. In fastboot, you will be able to restore a stock "system.img" and repair your device.

Fastboot and ADB are two completely different programs that work in completely different modes. As long as your drivers are in good working order, you should have nothing to worry about.

Ok, I have the computer at waiting for device, after downloading an image to restore. The Kindle is now black, nothing on the screen. Is it working? or should I try to turn it off and on again

It is okay, Don't panic.
But you really need a fastboot/factory cable now, Once you have it,
Let us try something a little different, You now have 3 .img files in you backup folder in C:\KFFirstAide\backup, Correct?
Take those files outside the folder now they are in C:\KFFirstAide
Hold down Shift and right click anywhere in the folder
Choose Open command window here
Turn off your device and then connect the fastboot cable, The device should power up and then fastboot logo is displayed
Copy and paste these commands in the command prompt window
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash boot boot.img
Should say
sending...
okay (time)
writing...
okay (time)
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash system system.img

It was never actually confirmed what Kindle Fire HD he is using.
I've flashed my system.img dozens of times and I've never seen anything like he's describing. From what I've seen, and considering the system.img was sent, we're looking at two possible scenarios; there was a malfunction in prokenexxusa's software OR user error played a part in the the resulting outcome.
Of the two, it's generally safe to assume the latter.

It is a kindle fire HD 7; 16 GB it was on 7.2.3.
So is it fixed?

I made some changes to the build.prop and rebooted, and now it gets stuck at the Kindle Fire boot animation. I can't get it to boot into safe mode either. Is there a way to unbrick or restore it without a factory cable? I can't get it to show up with adb.
If there's no way, I could probably make a factory cable, but it would be nice to fix it without having to do that.

Yes there is a way to get the 8.9 into fastboot so you can restore it without a factory cable, as a factory cable does not work on this device.
Power down the device and unplug
Open a cmd prompt where you have access to the fastboot script from SDK
Enter this command (or any fastboot cmd as long as you include [-i 0x1949]:
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
It will say "waiting for device"
Plug in the device and it will automatically boot into fastboot.
I have confirmed this works works when the device is in a loop and adb is not recognized. This does not work on the other models, a factory cable is required. Once in fastboot you can flash a backup image. I will be posting an update to the KFHD SRTool in the development section this morning to include 8.9" version

Tried that... The command you said just shows the help list, if I do a different fastboot command it says waiting for device and then the Kindle boots normally and gets stuck at boot animation like usual.

Are you sure you typed that command correctly because the help menu comes up if a command is entered wrong, I just did it and it worked fine. When you enter a fastboot command for this device it has to have the- [-i 0x1949] after fastboot, that is a zero not an O. If that is not done it will boot normally
ie:
fastboot -i 0x1949 [command]

If you need to restore the system image though, you should just download the KFHD_SRTool from development section for 8.9 and follow the instructions. It has fastboot included in the tool.
I've done the same thing with my kindle fire hd 7 (7.2.2 rooted, no TWRP), now its just stuck on the boot animation.
adb does not recognize the device. I tried using fastboot, (with the normal usb cable), it gets stuck with the '<waiting for device>' message.
The device manager does show the Kindle, but earlier it used to show 2 devices, a kindle and an adb composite
Were you ultimately able to solve this issue?

Turns out, it was a driver issue. Installed the proper Amazon driver, then it was detected by the adb. From there on, I was able to replace the bad build.prop with my backup

My Kindle Fire 8.9" SW v.8.1.4 is completely dark and unresponsive as the result of an unsuccessful attempt to root using KF utility 0.9.6. I suspect results would have been different if I'd had the sense to locate your tool and use it instead. Having downloaded KFHD for v8.1.4, I have tried to get the tool talking with the brick, and see only < waiting for device > eternally. I have charged overnight, held the power button down for >20 sec. to make sure the device was off, then bumped the power button. This should assure that the device is on, but in Amazon's wisdom there are no LEDs to confirm this. Do you have any suggestions for getting the device in a communicative state? I am perfectly willing to open the case. Please forgive the post if this is not the right thread for it, and point me to the right spot if you can.

I have exactly the same problem. This KFU-version seems to be a real KF 8.9"-killer.
My device does not respond to anything, regardless what I tried. Connecting to a PC does not trigger any response. The device is not recognized by the PC in any way. I believe that there is no USB-communication at all. I tried a factory-mode cable and this didn't work, too.
Any help would be appreciated, really!

Add another brick to the pile. Fire HD 8.9. Already rooted, OTA defeated, and Google App'd, but wanted the security of FFF just in case. Planned to used KFU 0.9.6 to set fastboot and then push FFF 1.4a once in fastboot. Instead, used KFU 0.9.6 to automatically install FFF. It appeared that KFU pushed FFF and then sent a reboot. The machine never came back to life after that shutdown.
Attempting to get into fastboot results in eternally <waiting for device>
I removed the back - there are no obvious 'fastboot' pads on any of the boards as there is for the HD 7".

Hi guys,
I tried the KFFirstAide tool to root my Fire 8.9, but after it ran, it just wipes red and then goes to the fastboot screen after powering up. I've used the KFHD SRT tool to replaced the system.img file, but still the same thing happens. Is it possibly because I need to restore the boot.img and recovery.img (which KFFirstAide overwrites) as well? And if so, does someone have a clean copy of those that will work with 8.1.4? Thanks!

I hope you didn't swap motherboards... Like user onemeila stated, you do not need a fastboot cable on the Kindle Fire HD 8.9. Just make sure that before you enter the command "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" that your Kindle is off and plug into the factory cable. Enter the command and wait for the message <wating for device>. Then turn on your kindle and you should boot into fastboot mode. If you see the fastboot screen on your kindle and Jem-PVT-Prod-04 in the command terminal, there is hope. The only problem I encountered is after each command, sometime it won't respond. So you might have to do one command, let it finish it's process. If the next one doesn't work, turn off the kindle enter "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" command. Turn on the kindle and proceed with the next command to restore your kindle.
The way the device is setup, it's very hard to completely ruin the device.

You are pretty much screwed. Sorry to tell you. You've flashed over the bootloader, the problem is with one that doesn't work. So your device won't even boot into fastboot no matter what you do. There was a way to do it on the original KF by removing the back and grounding the usb boot pad, then you could usbboot cmds to install the bootloader. But I'm not sure if it will work or ever been tested on this device. Good Luck, look on the bright side you can turn it into an extremely thin planter box, that still serves no purpose

I didnt read everything carefully but succeded in rooting my KHFD 8.9"
then i tried to install FFF using KFU and then it restarted and i couldnt power it on
well i have tried using FireKit .. but it says waiting for OMAP device..
then i wanted to do the shorting trick !!
i have searched for two days and couldnt find any where the how to USB shorting of KHFD 8.9
please help I am getting frustrated..

Please tell me their is an idiots guide to Flashing it back or any bloody operating system cos im tearing my hear out with it..

Yeah I remember vaguely from years ago.
Also use dosbox sometimes so i get the general gist of it yeah.
ok so basically you need to open a command prompt, and cd into the directory fastboot and adb are in, if you don't have fastboot in the same folder as adb in your android sdk, u probably have to update it first, or just get on of the utilities from the forum that comes with it. anyways once you cd into that directory, unplug your kindle, and turn it off then run this command in command prompt: fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
now after it says waiting for device, plug your kindle in, i believe it will automatically power on, if it doesn't then hit the power button, it should boot into fastboot mode. From there you can use the kindle fire first aid program to flash the stock rom onto it. Kindle fire first aid is in the 7" general forum (they really should rename it, its more like kindle second generation general forum). I would post a link but i'm on my pc, yea i know that sounds weird but its much more of a pain to do that on my pc when i have as much junk up on it right now as i do, maybe i'll edit the post in a few from my kindle, i'm trying to mod the systemui and framework...

ok so basically you need to open a command prompt, and cd into the directory fastboot and adb are in, if you don't have fastboot in the same folder as adb in your android sdk, u probably have to update it first, or just get on of the utilities from the forum that comes with it. anyways once you cd into that directory, unplug your kindle, and turn it off then run this command in command prompt: fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
now after it says waiting for device, plug your kindle in, i believe it will automatically power on, if it doesn't then hit the power button, it should boot into fastboot mode. From there you can use the kindle fire first aid program to flash the stock rom onto it. Kindle fire first aid is in the 7" general forum (they really should rename it, its more like kindle second generation general forum). I would post a link but i'm on my pc, yea i know that sounds weird but its much more of a pain to do that on my pc when i have as much junk up on it right now as i do, maybe i'll edit the post in a few from my kindle, i'm trying to mod the systemui and framework...

Ive managed to get in to adb and used the command u gave me.
It says waiting for device so i plugged the kindle in (powered off) The kindle turns itself on and just goes straight to demo mode CMD sits and waiting for device
The kindle always seems to install itself on my computer as a portable media device is this a problem?
I did down load the USB drivers in your signature and tried to update to them but the system says they are up to date.
I also tried to uninstall the kindle and reinstall it with your drivers and it still goes to the one windows already has for it.
Well that's odd, that should have worked on a 8.9 inch model, um I don't think fastboot cables work on 8.9 inch models, but that command should work when used like that. A few months ago I found a thread just like yours, I'd have to do some digging to find it. I will see if I can find it.
Edit: found it, you shouldn't need a fastboot cable if its a 8.9" model, read through the entire thread it may have some insights for you. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096555

Yeah Ide already had it the problem im having is exactly the same but the thread doesent end in a solution.
They found a solution' did you read the second page, more than one person was able to do it, using different methods. This is a weird round about method but you could look into it, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39133145

Don't waste your time with this suggestion. You will need kindlefirefirstaide. There is an option to restore it to stock. You will need to modify the batch file to fix the Dropbox links. All the info you need is in the kffa thread.
Bought a Demo'd Fire HD 6 from Radio Shack during their "Going Out of Business Sale". After tons and tons and tons of reading, and attempting to reflash the boot, I just ./adb reboot recovery, and the Fire wiped clean. Performed a full factory recovery install, and proceeded to register it with Amazon. I have no intention of installing any custom ROMs on it, so now I have a fully functioning Fire for $30. :laugh:
To get rid of demo mode Amazon Fire phone
You can just hold volume up and power while device is off then toggle to wipe data factory reset and demo mode will be gone

User stunts513 has a driver install package in his signature & profile that you can use to get your drivers working properly. If that doesn't work, you may want to try other, non-Windows based options.

Thanks for the pointer - I think it got me a tiny bit further. After finding the package and 'fixing' drivers - woo-hoo - my computer is saying that the device is working properly now, I can see it as 'Kindle Fire' in my device manager. However, it still is showing up as 'Tate-PVT-08' under Devices and Printers, and it cannot be found (isn't communicating) with ADB. I feel like I'm missing something so small to be able to move forward and reflash this thing - it's so incredibly frustrating to not be able to find it. :/
I also have tried editing the adb usb file to include the 0x1949, having gone through the adb kill/start-server commands several times, which hasn't changed anything. Is there anything I am missing to get windows and adb to communicate with it? Or is my only option at this point trying 'non-Windows based options'?
You don't use adb commands with fastboot, you use fastboot commands. I think at this point you said you have kffa, so try getting it to reflash the system image. I don't know the option number though.

Sooo, I feel even stupider now. I do have KFFA, so I tried to reflash the system image. It went through and gave me a success, although it did have an issue with erasing user data and cache. It said to disconnect from the computer/usb and power down, then restart. I did that and was super hopeful - it went through the boot screen a few more times than normal... but then BAM. Right back to the Kindle Fire System Recovery screen that it can't get past. Ugh. I must have really screwed something up on it.
Hmm. I just did some more digging on fastboot commands and found the fastboot mode guide on here. Going through that, I checked my hardware IDs, and one of the numbers are off, which according to the guide means that my Kindle isn't in fastboot mode (and this is while using the fastboot cable). If I use a regular USB cable, it doesn't show up at all anywhere. The more I research, the more confused I get. Everything seems geared towards fixing your device if it is stuck in a bootloop (mine goes through that and sticks at the recovery screen) or being able to get it into fastboot, which I cannot seem to do even with the cable. I guess I'm going to try to uninstall and reinstall the drivers for it again, but I'm starting to believe that whatever value I changed while in super user mode before my problems began are going to make it impossible to fix...
The hardware I'd should be 0x1949, and at this point I'm guessing maybe something is wrong with something in the data partition or you have a bad kernel. I don't know how to wipe the data partition from fastboot though. I don't know if kffa reflashes the boot partition, but you could always try that since a system reflash didn't work, or you could try reflashing the system image again, there's another tool in the android development section called kindle fire system restore tool, maybe it will work better for you. Ignore the part about that adb command, that's only for of your kindle can actually boot up.

Be very careful of what guides you use around here. Some of them (fastboot guide in particular) are made with the original Kindle Fires in mind, and can lead you to do irreversible damage.

But I can't even root my device. I tried to use this file but the batch just stucks.
When I try to find my device in console via "adb devices" it's not listet. But I have adb drivers installed.
Any suggestions? I'm really clueless.

No, it doesn't. I guess thats why the batch won't work. I just dont understand why the adb driver doesn't work.

But you've ADB enabled in System Settings?
BTW - rooting ist the only thin you can do with Fire HD 7 (2013) there are no Customs in Moment.

Yeah, i read that far already. Rooting is fine for the moment to remove the amazon ads and to install play. Customs will come earlier or later

You know that you have to use a Factory Cable? For Rooting 11.3.2.1 you've to Downgrade bootloader (the script is dealing with that automaticaly) but you have to be in fastboot mode, and fastboot mod is only possible with a factory cable (as far as I know)
BTW "adb devices" doesn't show me my device either.

I've read that "factory cable" before, I just thought that it refers to the cable that came with the kindle. Is that wrong? Where do I get a factory cable?

I built one myself. if you ask Google for a factory cable Motorola then you'll find a very good how to . I don't know where to buy.

Its better to call it a fastboot cable, I think factory cable is misleading unless you look it up.

Power Off your Kindle, then connect your "fastboot cable" --> then your Kindle should power on autom. and show a screen like attached, if not you've problem with your cable. If it shows the screen then there is a Problem with fastboot driver.

Well, it works to this point. I have the fastboot logo on my kindle. The batch flahes the boot image. And then everything stops.

Okay, the Problem seems to be, that after the downgrade the kindle does not show up as adb device anymore. It works fine with the new image though.
Is that a driver related problem? Do I need a different driver for the old boot image?

Just noticed that the Kindle never shows up under "adb devices" when in fastboot mode. It dows work when I boot the Kindle normal though.
So the batch stucks naturally an "adb wait-for-device"

How long did you wait? It'll take a few minutes. When your Kindle is powered on do you've an "adb" connection?

I waited a few minutes. I also tried to do it manually. I typed:

fastboot -i 0x1949 flash boot old-boot-prod.img
On my kindle then appears "Start downloading", "writing boot.....done"

I hear now the usb-disconnect and afterwards the connect sound of windows, no change on my kindle

and then I can wait forever. Nothing happens here. Only thing I can do is ctrl+c.
Ok. I tried again with my notebook (still running WinXp) and... it worked. On the second try.
Device is rooted now, annoying ads are gone. Thank god.
Why this did not work under Win7....I have no idea.
Last quastion: How to get GooglePlay now? And i read that I can't use the Amazon store anymore, will I need it for some Apps?

In the post you downloaded your root Script you'll find a link in Signature of the Poster to his playstore Script (To Root your KFSOWI and install working Google Play Click Here)
And yes if playstore ist installed Amazon Downloads are not possible anymore, but you can save all files named “DownloadProvider***.apk/odex“ out of /system/apps before using Playstore Script. You'll find such files also in playstore Script. Than you can always change files. Take the files out of org. Firmware to Download from Amazon and reverse to Download Form google.

Are there special app's that I might need the amazon-appstore for later?
Also, is there a way to change the lockout-screen? Im glad that the ad's are gone now, but just black is boring, too.

Waht I know ist that only need DownloadProvider** Files (*. odex and *.apk). I don't know how to change the lockscreen, but I think you mean that there is no possibitly to set a wallpaper --> than look at here.

Congrats on rooting your Soho! I'm having similar problems that you did initially. The device is recognized in adb. I bought a fastboot cable. The devices comes up in fastboot mode using the fastboot cable but is not recognized in Windows and so 'fastboot devices' comes up empty. You said you fixed that by updating the drivers manually. Can you share exactly what you did please? This has been driving me nuts for over a week. Thanks!

fastboot devices never promted anything for me, either.
I had to go to the Device Manage in Windows, look for the Kindle and manually update the driver to the "android_winusb.inf"
Hi, tried searching the forums but cannot find anything.
I've got a 1st Gen Kindle Fire HD, which belonged to my younger sister. One day out of the blue, she approached me because the kindle had stopped working.
Basically, whenever i try and boot up the kindle, the standard kindle logo displays, then almost immediately jumps to a fastboot logo and stays there.
When connected to a pc, it's no longer detected as a kindle, but comes up as 'bowser-00' i did "correct this" by manually installing the android adb drivers and it recognises as that now.
I've tried the unbrick tool and kindle fire utility, and both tell me that the device cannot be found, I've also purchased a factory cable, but had no further luck.
The device isn't rooted and everything on the device was stock. When i contacted amazon customer services, they told me the reason it was stuck in fastboot was that i'd tried to modify the device, so they wouldn't send a replacement.
Any help would be appreciated as i don't want to be left with an expensive paperweight, and have to fork out for a new device.
You're in the wrong forum for your device but I think it is easy to fix yours. When in fastboot mode issue these two commands from dos, but make sure to be in the directory with the fastboot. Exe
fastboot -i 0x1949 oem idme bootmode 4000
fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot

Thanks for the reply. I tried this, but it just says waiting for device. On the thread you linked, i found out about the hardware id's, and following a google search found a thread on of someone else with an identical problem, and the consensus was that the pins may be permanently shorting due to 'liquid getting in' so may have a go at opening it up and cleaning the contacts

It's a Kindle Fire HD 7", it has a front facing camera and volume buttons. I think the confusion was me saying it was 'original'

As i stated, i used the drivers and it's not worked. Upon opening the kindle, i've discovered heavy corrosion on several parts that would suggest water damage, so it's pretty much written off.
