blingfeed annoying - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i keep watching htc ones rewiev 2 thing makes me wonder 1 blingfeed i dont need that can it be disabled? second is power button on top

It can't be disabled but you can use some other launcher. Or maybe just be on the right hand side normal sense screen. Yes, power button is at the top

I don't know if it can be disabled, but you can set the other panel as home screen.

custom roms are good but im noob i already bricked couple devices so its no no for me rooting flasing etc. shame we cant disable feature is good if you are interested but it really doesnt interest me blinkfeed i dont use it so why cant i remove i guess have to wait for s4 unless it can be disable without rooting

I won't mind trying it. Don't knock it till you try it. Now if they could just add the text messaging icon or something amidst all of the news feeds that would be great....lol.

If you need to get rid of it, you can set it to manual update to save on processing/battery, then swipe it away and define the empty next screen as your home screen, and add more for the original multi-pane android home feel. You could, for example, add 5 home pages ... scroll to the third empty one, declare that as default home, and then have the equivalent of a typical 2-left, center, 2-right android layout, and you can lways flip further till you get to blinkfeed if you ever do ant to play with it for a while.

I actually like it! I use flipboard on a daily basis while listening to music. I wish the time/weather at the top was swappable with music controls or some other useful things.
One thing I haven't seen in any video is how BlinkFeed has an impact on power/data. I think I saw someone mention that the feeds only get updated when you swipe down to refresh? I am not sure if this is the only way to update or if there is an automatic timer as well. If it only updates when you swipe then certainly it shouldn't affect battery/data too much. I know that only headlines and pictures are updated when you refresh and the content is only downloaded once you press on an item.

would blinkfeed use too much of juice and ram has anyone had demo unit

I actually think its a pretty neat idea...it'll help me keep track of GSW trying to keep their playoff spot or the LAL trying to get in to the playoffs haha.
But that's what I was thinking...I mean you could just unsubscribe from all that news and nothing will show up...right?

It doesn't really matter. As others have said, you can turn off automatic updating and set another screen to be your homescreen, thus never having to see BlinkFeed again unless you want to. I'm glad HTC allowed for us to move away from it if we want to, but I imagine myself using it since I think the design of it is great.

I am not convinced of it as well as I like the clean sense look, my first challenge will be to hack this out or somebody else might do it before me, let's see

It would be interesting to see if someone could make it so you designate a certain screen/page as the 'BlinkFeed' screen (similar to setting a page as the homescreen). That way you could remove it entirely or move it around so it could be in the middle of all your screens.

You can move the blinkfeed to a different screen if you don't want it to be the home screen

I think it's a great idea and looks great, I'll probably will leave it as my home screen. I read somewhere that Sky News will be available along with BBC news, can anybody confirm?

looks like a good idea..
While im in line or something, i can just get all my information on the homescreen.
Great concept.

im definitely looking forward to blinkfeed!

a few seconds after 2:20 he says "you can turn Blinkfeed off, you have an option to do so."

App to answer and end touch screen?

Is there an app for this? And does the phone have to be rooted? just seems practical on the touch screen
What do you mean, like for in-call options?
I think he doesn't want to hit the green phone button, but the screen, to answer a call, as well as ending the call w/o using the red End button.
Look there has been multiple threads on this... that and a full screen pic for the incoming calls
Yea i just saw a thread for the full screen pic but i can careless about that.. all i want it the answer and the end to be on the screen so i dont use the buttons on the phone.. used an iphone for a bit and now i keep catching myself touching the screen in frustration.. So is there something? and does it require a root? can I have a link if its not to much trouble ..the search feature here forwards u to google so its tough to use

Don't worry about them. Your question is legitimate, and the suggestion to use the buttons on the phone was a workaround, not a resolution. These internet tough guys like to show their virtual muscles for everyone to see. Just learn to ignore them.
And yes, the ROMs require root access first. I recommend this thread if you already haven't read it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480

Turbo, i apologize for coming off as an ass. Bad day and I took it out on you.
Back to topic.
I would agree with Turbo, it would be cool to have a function like this, however, when you are on your phone, your cheek rubs against the screen, (and don't tell me yours don't ever touch the screen) it would be nice to be able to have this option with an enable/disable function.

Well that WAS a problem b4 cupcake, not sure if you noticed or not but while on a call after several seconds the screen locks/sleeps, and when on a call and the Dialpad is up it requires a "Double-Tap to unlock" on screen to unlock it. Unless your chewing gum or bouncing it off your cheek it should not be a problem. You can also use Shake Awake.
Now if someone could make a app like OP wants, it would be NICE, as I been looking for something like it for a long time.

True, forgot about that. also if you are using a headset, it doesn't matter either...
Yes, the Hero ROM describes what you're talking about. It has a Green "ANSWER" button and a red "DECLINE" button, just like the iPhone.
Unfortunatly, an APP can't do this yet because it's all built into the version of the phone, not an application itself. If someone could port it over, that'd be great!

well if im correct i dont think the hero rom is the only 1...i may be wrong but i think the HTC Magic ports that Haykuro did also had a different way to answer the phone it had the HTC dialer, its been a while since i used that rom been dealing with Hero, its a little more stable and user friendly then hero you may want to check that rom out.

i get what is being asked. i'd love to see it too, or even an option to turn on/off a function that takes the functions of the make call and end call functions right on the screen, and nice looking.

I used to run off of Haykuro's builds since he started making them. I haven't seen any HTC builds with an on-screen answering option like the Hero build. I know all about the HTC dialer, but there's no on-screen things that are drastically different.
Besides, the Magic and the Dream have no difference UI-wise except for the tiny extra features that Haykuro's "H" builds have offered.

Pinch-To-Zoom Home Screen Preview in Non-Sense Roms?

Would it be possible to port Pinch-To-Zoom Home Screen Previews to any non-Sense rom out there? I ask because people said that Launcher2 wouldnt work on Donut, and minus the wrap-around effect, it works very well on Donut. Also I believe super D is using htc framework in his latest build, so i was wondering if what im asking is even remotely possible to do?
Lol why would you want to? We already have the preview cards, why would you want to be able to pinch to zoom to do the same thing? I suppose that if you knew what you were doing you would be able to take bits and pieces from the rosie.apk and port it to the regular launcher.apk, and it definately is possible, but I'm just saying your gonna have a hell of a time doing it lol. And your running the latest radio? Since when? How did you fix it?

eh idk its nifty lol, i was just wondering if it was possible or not, since it seems these donuts are mutating into sense/eclair wannabes lol. itd be kinda cool actually. I wonder if anyone with experience would try that.
yeah i am, how did i fix it? i switched g1s lol. it turns out my old one had a hardware problem or something because no computer would detect it for adb, and the radio wouldnt update no matter what even with a goldcard (i managed to downgrade it tho ) lol. i tried to fastboot a radio but i couldnt since something inside the phone was preventing it from being detected and preventing the radio from updating...its been dropped a lot..lol.
Since SuperD already has the HTC framework, can't you push the rosie.apk and use that? You can even re-theme it so it looks like the standard donut launcher, or get somebody smart like ADW to merge it into his launcher for you.
I'm pretty sure that SuperD only has enough of the HTC Framework to run a few things (He mentions HTCMusic specifically so I think that'
s what it is limited to). As for getting it in non-Sense roms, I'm all for telling the lazy coder Anderwebs to get off his butt and try to code it
you get a very similar result when using the almost nexus launcher for donut builds, just long click the dots.

Problem with that (and the way I think he sees it), is that by the time you long press the dots, you could have flipped through all the screens. The dots just aren't practical for swiping through screens. The double-tap is a great implementation in HelixLauncher, but unfortunately, it lowers the response time for singe tap and/or swiping (it is making sure there is not a second tap).

on topic:
-afaik only "cyanogenized" donut roms contain the required kernel/framework stuff to even detect multitouch, so it would only work on those.
-the sense zooming thing is, imho, the standard "preview cards" just laid out differently and sligthly animated, not a real zoom. I've (almost)already managed to do this for an upcoming version of my launcher.
-the point here is to find a better (and compatible) way of triggering the previews. Longpressing is "slow", multitouch isn't compatible/accurate, doubletap can be tricky...
I tried a few ideas, but the one i like more is just tapping the "home" button. Actually it's implemented to "goto your default screen" but i changed it to show desktop previews and somewhat worked (need more time to do it properly).
I may try whatever alternative you ppl provide here.
How about the alternative where you stfu and/or buy me a N1?
I like the "home" button idea. I rarely use it anyway and I'm sure he's quite jealous of the other buttons.

eek! i honestly dont like the home button idea. maybe you could make the launcher similar to the sense style launcher, by replacing the dots with a slider like sense has and making it look like a pull up tab with a button in the center to bring out the app drawer, and at the center just above the button you could pull up on it (like a regular launcher) and itd show the previews...a lot quicker and easier to navigate through the screens than your current launcher if you ask me...maybe i can draw up a concept and put it up here...

So I just got the point 3 update on Viper ROM the capacitive buttons haven't caused any trouble as of yet and everything else appears to be working pretty smooth I like the new um power button thing on the swipe down menu and it seems to still run about the same speed pretty snappy using lighting launcher and screen filter to save battery it does charge really slow but you gotta give them credit this is really there second phone with a nice size battery and I bet you the next release will have even better power management

I come from the line of thinking that if my screen is darker then it's probably not using as much power, granted that difference may be minimal.
Is there anyway we can modify the layout of the pull-down device settings like the wifi tether icon doesn't seem to work on the Sprint version unless you have a specific data plan so I'd like to either remove it or swap it out with the application that I run for tether

Well, your line of thinking is incorrect. Imagine your phone is on full brightness and you put a piece of tint on the front of the screen. It will appear to be darker right? But in reality, it's just not projecting the light because you have a filter over it. Screen filter is exactly the same thing. There is no battery savings to be had with it.
Toggles will be edited for next release to fix/remove those that don't work or are useless. A

I believe the only way to get rid of blinkfeed at the moment is to use a different launcher. If you use sense your stuck with it. You can make it so it's not your homepage though.

Thanks for the reply man. I did move it all the way to the right just to get it out of my way lol. But with only 5 screens (im use to 7) its kind of a waste of space. Theres other stuff i could use that screen for. If i knew where it was located maybe i could decompile, remove and recompile. Thanks for the response man,

You're welcome That's really my only problem with this phone. Even though I am starting to get used to it and use it more, I really wish HTC would have made it optional instead of forcing it on us.

Have you gone into the settings and enabled other sources? I hated Blinkfeed until I realized you could get stuff from all sorts of things like mags, websites, sports, news, etc.
But yeah, third party launcher is the only way to "disable" it.

Maybe a dumb question but, how can, orcan I remove this screen. Its of absolutely no use to me. Ive looked in settings, tried long press. Is it one of those things im stuck with like it or not ? Thanks

It's not possible to remove blinkfeed from sense. The person who said you have to use a different launcher is correct.

I'd echo the note of using a different launcher. If you are particularly fond of the Sense launcher though, you can always add more home screens and change the default homescreen to point elsewhere (say, screen #3 or so). Blinkfeed will always be on screen #1, but you can ignore it this way.
Of course, many alternative launchers won't work with Sense's widgets, so be sure you're aware of that before you make the jump to any particular one! I do believe I saw that there was some work on hiding blinkfeed, though; unfortunately, it doesn't seem like it's a simple fix.

Yeah, its literally embedded into the launcher...its hard coded in.
Have you tried setting it up for your interest? I thought it would be annoying at first and was very annoying for the first couple days and almost installed a different launcher. Till one day I started messing around with it and now I use it daily. It's nice to be caught up on what's going on with technology and science without having to search the web for the highlights. Saves a lot of time.
I get this question a lot working at sprint. Customers come in all the time asking how to get rid of it. Instead of showing them different launchers I show them how to set it up and they all walk out happy without wanting a different launcher.
This is something new and very exciting for smartphone owners. But I do agree it would be nice to at least have the option to remove it for the people that buy a smartphone and only want to make calls with it.

Google+ and Flipboard are far superior tools if you're looking to keep up to date, but for casual reading it's pretty hard to argue with something that's built in.

[Tip] Coping with new notification quick settings

Hello,
Some (most?) of us dislike the new layout of the quick settings, just thought I'd share a tip I discovered by accident.
If you place your thumb on the LEFT of the bar and hold it for 1 second, the bar will appear for a bit. drag it down and you'll get your notifications. if you do the same on the RIGHT you'll get quick settings. it's a great way to avoid an extra keypress or using two fingers to swipe down (who thought that would be a good idea?!)

This has already been talked about.
Personally I really like the new style, I imagine there are a lot of people that do, they just don't shout as loud as those that complain.

I don't dislike it really, I'm just used to the old way. I'm sure it'll grow on me with time.

Yes, that's true.
It always takes people time to get used to change, but if we didn't have it we would still be playing snake on a nokia 7730
I love the new style, the old one was horrible(a little more practical though)
