Work around for Walkman bug on JB - Sony Xperia T, TL, TX, V

It is working on my LT30p with rooted JB. I don't know why.
1. uninstall update of Smart Connect.
2. disable Smart Connect
3. power off then power on the phone
after these step, Walkman works with headset again in sleap mode.
EDIT: Stop playing the next track again. So it is NOT a replicatable solution. Forget it.

I don not even have Smart Connect installed, I removed it from the phone as I don't use it... guess what, Walkman does not work :/

just set unlock pattern and walkman will be OK

There's gotta be more to it than that, I use an unlock pattern and it still pauses between songs.

it looks that every user have to do something uniqiue to get it work...

Its just because the sleep policy of our JB its still not optimized. Look at teh batterystats. Our device isnt sleeping. And there is mismach wit handroid LMK killer. And if you do some stuff like you mentioned. Soemthing its changed and it starts working. But not for a long time ...

Searching around and I found that there are many people countering this bug too --> http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/408382
The solution is using another temporary music player like poweramp or rock music player, and wait for the next update. Hope this bug will be fixed soone.

I also applied the unlock pattern solution, but it did not work for me.

I installed bbs too.
When update to JB through sony Update Service, the device does not fall in deep sleep and with a bad battery strain than ICS.
After rooted (thanks to TiMiN8R), disable google now and some location related options of google maps, now it falls in deep sleep every time when screen locks.

Taken on 4.1.2.
It appears to me like the device is, in fact, sleeping normally.
I'm pretty sure Walkman issues are app-specific, otherwise other players would suffer too.

Someone said Amazon Mp3 Player had the same issues.
And the ICS version Walkman in JB had the same issues too.
I did not verify these.
If these are ture, the issue should not be app-specific.

Here's the problem: PowerAMP and DeaDBeeF both play music fine.

Yes i think this was in the sony forums. So it could be something related to the android media server or something. I have never used amazon player, but if we find out whats the difference between Amazon and Walkman and other media apps, i think we can find a solution.

Weird. I never noticed this problem with Walkman on .489 fw (modified - I must say).
No problem when playing on speaker and no problem when playing on bluetooth car radio.

Yes, bluetooth plays fine, but couple of bugs there too.
1)volume is low when first connected to bluetooth... (unless you dial a number for even a second and end call)
2)started to notice lately that audio quality (specially bass) is pretty choppy on bluetooth.

Yes, bluetooth volume problem is there. But playing alarm sound in volume settings solves it for that one connection. (no need to make a call)
But how many songs do I need to listen with headphones, to notice that Walkman bug? I tried 3 without any pause.

That Bluetooth volume thing, is that only on walkman? Becausei just tried it myself on PowerAmp and I didn't notice any difference (don't have Walkman on my phone anymore since I got a license for PowerAmp which I think is ten times better)
Not even after a short phone call of playing alarm sound from settings.
Please try it, because if it isn't then I did something in my Rom that fixed it (and maybe I will share CrazyBuild v1.3 a little sooner then)

I only use the Walkman app...so notice the volume issue on it so far. Just reinstalling JB after flashing ICS to test audio quality.. Will have a go with PowerAmp afterwards.

I have PoweAmp license too, but I like Walkman more.
I don't have that bug causing pauses between tracks, but BT volume after connection is always low.
Already uninstalled Smart connect, because it started to be annoying. Now I am using A2DP Volume app. This doesn't help. Volume slider is at maximum, but volume is low. Playing alarm sound by moving alarm volume slider solves this.
I started to do some modifications, but I can test it only in my car.

Sound related issues on Jellybean

Hi guys, I'm on the official LM5 Jellybean firmware, and have a couple of issues to share.
1. When I'm listening to music (speaker or earphones), during quiet portion of the song (ie. intro, outro) the sound doesn't come out when the volume is at level 1, like it'd be dead silent. As soon as the song progresses to louder portions, the sound comes back. This bothers me because I use noise canceling earphones and I don't need the volume to go higher than 1 or 2.
2. Also, another issue is when I unplug my earphones while the music is playing, the phone doesn't automatically pause the music (like it did on ICS), and it would continuing playing thru the loud speaker.
If anyone can confirm the same issues (especially on LM5) that'd be great!
You sure it's not your headphones dropping the sound? Tried others?

I'm almost certain that it's not my earphone's fault. I've tried two pairs, and even when music is playing through the loudspeaker at volume 1, when I put my ear up against it, I can hear silence when the song is quiet.
I don't think it's the mp3 file's fault either because I've tried playing youtube Vevo songs too.
Was the other pair a regular headphone, or noise cancelling as well? Just sounds like some sort of noise cancelling effect. But you never know.
Never noticed it on mine.

I've tried the my Sony noise cancelling headphones, the stock Samsung ear bud earphones, and regular iPod earphones. And as I mentioned, it doesn't even play out of the loud speaker, so I'm sure it's not a hardware issue, more like something to do with the codecs. The relatively quiet sounds just doesn't come out at all when it's at volume 1 or 2.
For me, if I listen to this song's beginning (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rb9CuupX5-Q), at volume 1, it's really choppy because of the quieter portion. At volume 3+, it plays fine.
If you have time, can you try it on yours (LM5?). See if you can hear a difference between volume 1 and volume ~5.
What are you using to play? I don't have volume steps as in 1 or 3. Or are you just using this as one notch from mute etc.

Yep -- this is a bug that is still not fixed. It affects wired and speaker audio -- but supposedly not Bluetooth. A lot of people just don't notice it, because of the music they listen to, but try listening to Classical and it will drive you nuts.
We need to complain to Samsung...
Well looks like I'm not alone on this issue. The thing is this problem didn't exist before I upgraded to jellybean, I wonder what they did to ye firmware that made this happen.
Hopefully Samsung will fix this.

[Q] Strange Sound behavior

Lately i've noticing a strange sound behavior. Whenever i play Music on the loudspeaker Music tends to fade out and in, i mean the volume goes down and then up, and no matter what player i use it,s happening so often that it's getting annoying. Any help or ideas, has anyone faced this problem? And don't know if it's rom related.
it's like something is making the sound to lose focus, like when you recieve a message while listening to Music with a headset but on headset this problem doesn't show up.
And for everyone to know i'm not using any sound mod.
edit: noticed that apps that use audio are crashing more than they should.
Hay man, I have the exact same problem, Sounds fades out then comes back... Oddly enough it's only just started happening in the last day or so. I'm on stock jellybean update with locked bootloader.
Is there any solution to this? Ive tried rebooting etc but no luck.

Did that and no changes so far.
When playing walkman..i realise that the music seems like its stop and then play again..its stop around half a second..this happen in a few time per song..
Well I'm still having this problem but i've noticed that it happens oftenly whenever i'm listening music on loudspeaker and i open Chrome to navigate, it Triggers the problem. Been trying using Dolphin and it doesn't produce the problem.
I'm not 100% if chrome has to be blamed but that's what i've noticed
This weekend will try changing ROM to see if the problem goes away.
I have noticed this bug as well

Since disabling xloud I don't seem to get the issue anymore, anyone confirm?
Sent from my LT30p using xda premium
I've already tested by disabling xloud, but the problem persists, gonna try rebooting after disabling
Edit: same result after rebooting. The ultimate Test is to play Music then start browsing with chrome (at least with two tabs opened) the Sound will fade out and in eventually. Have in mind that only happens with the internal Speaker of the phone. No headphones or external speakers.
Well moved from TurzzdROM to Gregbradley's Assaye 1.1.0 and there's no sight of the problem, Not saying that was the ROM because i did something else, that is is not enabling Clear phase in Settings/sound, I just activated Xloud and thats it.
So... Try disabling clear phase on settings and rebooting and see if that works.
I'm on JB & is it just me, but I noticed that the sound settings of ringtone & noticifactions isn't very loud.
If you use the max. volume settings, it isn't loud at all....
Any one else noticed this?

Potential Danger
This can be potentially dangerous for people that uses the Nexus 4 AS A PHONE everyday, or even rely on phoning in his/her job.
In the above example where a user with Headset is unaware of the "Inherited" Highest In-Call Volume from the Speaker mode, the user's ears would be blasted every time he/she makes/receives a phone call.
Phone calls are the essential feature of a phone. Bugs inside the In-Call Volume on a stock Nexus 4 is really intolerable.
This seems to be a small issue like the incorrect battery percentage reporting / buzzing phone speaker / shaking the phone causes sound etc., but this is different, because it can cause human damage!
Again, please help me to catch Google's attention on this by starring the issue, with the hope that they will fix it soon. Thanks!

Well, I don't use it really frequently too. But don't you want to help make the N4 perfect? That is a very basic function and really shouldn't appear on this phone. In addition, I believe it would be a pain for people who makes alot of phone calls every day. Really a pain.
Because there are alot of people don't care, thats why this basic volume bug is not getting fixed.

Well. Sorry to say.
I never used Google stock ROM since Nexus one. Nexus S. galaxy Nexus. And also Nexus 4.
as far as i know. low volume quality earpiece when in call volume happens since Nexus S.
so i always use custom kernel and ROM.
a question. Which one will blast our ears?
earpiece or earphones (headset/headphones).
thats why this basic volume bug is not getting fixed.

For low quality, I can still live with it as long as it doesnt damage my ears, but for this one, it is a freaking volume blast.
I have tested the issue (volume inheritance between profiles) on my maguro and it is not there.
I hvn't tested it with those big headphones. But I believe the effect will be significant in those earpieces that put volumes directly into our ear canals - unexpected maxed volume together with the background noise + low quality output, that blast will be horrible!
As far as my knowledge tells, some earpieces have an overall higher volume (especially those without a mic on the wires, and is especially built for music instead of phone calls) to facilitate better music experience. And those combined with this bug will result in a catastrophe. I have changed my earpiece to those built for phone calls + casual music, and even it blasts, the impact is not as big as the ones mentioned above.
so i believe it happens when u used headset isn't it?
and also headset doesn't include out of the box in Nexus 4.
is it possible some thing wrong with your custom headset?

No, I have tried different ones, with mic, with no mic, etc.
Headsets may be different in their "actual volume output loudness" (how loud ACTUALLY do u hear with the same volume setting, might be different), but the OP is talking about the "software volume output". No matter how quiet your headset is, the bug still happens. (when u plug back in the headset, the call volume output of the nexus 4 still remains the one u set without headset)
It is only a matter of whether it will damage your ears. if your headset's "actual volume output loudness" is loud, then it blasts your ears. if it is very quiet, then it doesnt hurt you.

I have this problem too and it's really annoying. I'm temporarily fixing it as follows:
I'm currently solving this issue using Llama: whenever I plug in my headphones, I set my call volume to maximum and set a variable. Then whenever I'm in call, I set the call volume back to down to minimum (or whatever you want) AFTER A ONE SECOND DELAY (this is important) if the variable is set. The variable gets cleared whenever the volume gets set back down since it doesn't need to be done multiple times.

Audio issues recommendations?

Hello everybody,
I'm currently having the Walkman bug on my Xperia T (on 9.1.A.1.1.141) as most of the Xperia T phones are experiencing, and by "walkman bug", I mean the disc-scratching noise that appears whilst playing music. I've been looking around, and seen that I have a couple of solutions to this issue.
First one is going for CM 10.1 or CM 10. Whilst this may be a solution, I'm afraid for the stability of my phone and the possibility of other problems popping up. Is there any version that is stable right now?
My second solution would be a mod (PureXMod, for example. Maybe someone could suggest me different ROMs as well?)
My third solution would be an app, but I've tried many, and few of them work anymore. PowerAmp worked for a while, but doesn't work anymore, and I'm afraid other apps would suffer the same way. Haven't found any that would work, lately.
My fourth solution would be going back to ICS or an older JB version, tho I wouldn't want to, to be honest, UNLESS there is a FW version that works flawlessly and I haven't seen.
All I want frankly, is to have a phone and a good media player with me, that's about it.
Or maybe someone around here has a firmware that doesn't have this issue?
I didn't have any disc-scratching noise issues with Walkman app, but I had the "muted speaker" issue few times, after I disconnect earphones. Rebooting is solving this issue.
Regarding that noise you're mentioning, I never experienced it in Walkman, or PowerAMP for that matter.
And, just like you, I'm listening to music a lot of time, I mean really lots of.
For now, I'm settled with PowerAMP, which works perfectly for me (like it did for the last two years, on my previous phones).
I hope those issues with Walkman will be adressed in future updates (if we even get any more of them), because I really like this app. I would probably gave up on PowerAMP if Walkman gets fixed, because now it can read FLAC format, something that brought me to PowerAMP in the first place.
My phone is on 9.1.A.1.1.141 (Generic UK) and I never had disc-scratching noises for music on Walkman player. Usually I listen to mp3 file type.
Which fw, and what file type do you listen to?
Just to add, I'm listening to FLAC files mostly, and mp3 occasionally, and like I said, I never had any sound related issues.
And my firmware is also 9.1.A.1.141
Maybe there is something else causing that issues for you?
Since I have JB (presently on a .145 based rom), I've always been experiencing disc-scratching noises with all players (Poweramp, Google play music, Playerpro, etc, etc..) except with the stock Sony Walkman player. If I use the port of Honami Walkman player for instance, I'm experiencing disc-scratching noises. Just the stock Walkman player is good for me...

Since you're both using custom ROMs, could it be something related to them. I cannot replicate that problem you're talking about whatever I'm puting in my phone to play.
And, I'm close to defining myself as audiophile, so I'm quite sure I would notice any interruptions in sound if there are any.

No, I use the rom ExperimenT v3.1 only since 2 months. Before, I was using stock JB roms and the problem was the same.
What I can advice to Deformat is :
- to do a factory reset
- to install the lastest JB stock rom (.145)
- to test the walkman before installing any app
- if the problem persists, to contact the Sony mobile customer service.
Thanks a lot guys!

Alright. I'm on Vodafone, but that build screwed up my phone app after it received the data packages it required. I couldn't call anyone at all, sadly.
Regarding the Walkman app, it sucked again. Same scratches, that appear more rarely, but when they appear, they nearly blew my ears. I'm going to go to Sony customer service, hopefully getting a fix for the audio driver next week. I really hope.

Perhaps the Vodafone packages, which are required to use your phone (?), corrupt the audio drivers...

Android App Review: Get the Sound You Deserve with ViPER4Android – XDA Developer TV

Question Buds+ with S21Ultra - issue or feature?

Hi all,
From iPhone to S21 Ultra, and now having the issue with connecting Buds+, or maybe it's how they should work.
So, on iPhone when I open the lid of Airpods, they will connect but sound will not be transferred to headphones, it will happen when I place at least one of the pods in-ear and after taking it out, the sound will again be on phone, not pods.
With Buds+, the sound will be on buds the moment I open the lid, and only after I close it, it will be on phone again.
So, is this expected behavior (different than on the Apple ecosystem) or there is a way to make Buds+ behave like Airpods on iPhone? What I want in short:
1) Transfer sound to earpiece not when the lid is open but after earpiece is placed in the ear
2) Transfer sound back to the phone when the earpiece is taken off an ear.
Thanks

I don't have the Buds + currently. I'm using the Buds live. But the behaviour should be same, in line with Samsung design.
1. Music should only start playing once they are in the ear. However, it will start playing if you press play on the music app, even if the buds are not in your ears. If you have your music player set up to force trigger music play when connected to BT, it will play regardless of whether its in your ear or not.
2. Unlike airpods, Buds do not stop playing when you pull out one of them from your ears. You have to pull them both out for them to auto-stop playing.

Hey, thanks a lot for a quick answer.
Yeah, the behaviour should be the same for all buds, plus/live/pro.
I am not so concerned about music, the issue is that everything is transferred to earpieces, including phone ringing and message alerts. Yeah, I know, no one will open the lid if they don't want to use buds, but the problem is also battery drain since they are basically working while in case.
Usually, I am using only one bud since I am on phonecalls a lot or listening to some lectures, and yes, the sound will stop after I take out one earpiece while the other is in case, but still, sound (notifications, ringing) will still be in buds, not on the phone, which for me is frustrating (Airpods make me lazy, I assume )

I have both the Buds and Buds+
Once the case lid is closed they Buds are off and charging.
If you're having issues do a network reset and clear the system cache. Closely go over your settings; there are many and spread out all over the place including in notifications.
Using power management* will screw them up and other services, avoid using all power management!
The Buds should work seamlessly with a Samsung.
Unlike airpods they never fall out... goofy Apple.
For music listening I recommend using Poweramp if you have a music database. Use it's excellent graphic equalizer to dial the Buds+ in.

Yes, there are some really nice things Apple does with the user experience. There's a reason they sell a bucketload of devices at obscene profit margins. I tried the Airpods Pro. They were quite good TBH, would've bought them if I could stand iOS...
