[Q] Free MDR-1 Headphones - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Just checking as to what headphones everyone got with their pre-orders, it seems some got the Bluetooth version, so my question is did everyone get that version?
Will be collecting mine from Three at lunch time

I'd have loved the BT nfc ones, makes sense to pair those with the Z. Still a nice pre order bonus though.
Ordered from cpw and have the standard wired ones.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app

with my preorder from P4U I got the Bluetooth headset

LUCKY BLUETOOTH BOYS!!!
Here's hoping I am equally blessed but I am not holding out too much hope

I am a bit disappointed now, just looked at the different models as I thought they were all noise cancelling headphones, but it seems only the MDR-1RNC are noise cancelling, priced at £449
Never mind though, at least I'll be able to hear the traffic if trying to cross the road lol

It would really make my day if I SonyMobile.com sent out the Bluetooth ones, but something tells me that they're only offering the regular ones. Which, frankly, isn't such a big deal if you ask me - shouldn't be a problem to use with mw600 or similar "adapter-ish".

I got the normal ones in black, I don't know what made me think they were supposed to be noise cancelling though, I must have read it in a review rather than on the Sony offer page...

Normal ones from P4U for me still happy tho

No idea why someone would want wireless headphones over wired ones, unless you're selling on. Wireless is more expensive while lower quality sound. Fact.

I preordered mine on the first day they opened preordering up, Got an email today from P4U, saying "sorry I didn't get it today but It has been sent special delivery before 1pm tomorrow". and I've been upgraded to the Sony MDR-1RBT ones worth £399, even tho they only £248 on amazon.Would have been nice to get the noise cancelling ones tho' lol

I got the wired one.... preordered from carphone warehouse...

The XperiaZ kinda encourages everyone to use wireless accessories. i'm gonna need to buy a SBH20 so that i can plug my headphones into the bluetooth reciever so that I don't have to open flaps on my xperiaZ.
Also going to need a docking station because the flaps are annoying

i preorderd from mobicity, does that mean i dont get headphones?
its an australian website btw

Sorry but no.
Sacrificing quality (for a higher price at the same time) for style is kind of stupendous.
What's more, I'm not planning to dump my phone into water or take it under the shower. Water resistance is something for emergency situations, if you drop your phone into the sink that it doesn't go bust. I won't refrain from using my phones features like the damn USB port and headphone jack for some misplaced sense of diving desire.
Treat it like the ZL and realize your phone will function with or without water resistance (except under water).

Exactly!!!
I don't get why all of a sudden people are getting wireless everything for the XZ. the waterproof is a just in case feature, it doesn't mean that you stop using the phones normal features.

This is it right here http://www.expansys-usa.com/p.aspx?i=145166 or you can go on ebay and get the docking station I moded in this thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2067979#post2067979
I think expansys has that docking station too and the OEM version which carries 2 USB ports and an already included 3.5mm jack, but I wouldn't shell out $100 plus for it. Just my 2 cents

4 in 1 cable gets you comppsite video out and VGA out if your TV has that port. I've tested it and it looks really good either way.
Excellent, where's the best place to buy? Expansys? Are there any generics I should avoid?

Since you are in the USA, go to OnTheGOSolutions.com They always seem to have them in stock and they get them out FAST. Prices are all about the same. Call them though, they aren't showing it on the web site at the moment. I don't think you'll find generics to worry about.
Why do youwant it on your TV anyway?

the main reason is because i have two daughters (one is two years old and the other is four months). At family events, everyone always wants to see pictures. Since i usually keep lots of pictures on my device or an sd card, i can show pictures from my device. its very annoying going from person to person, or passing my device around the room, hoping no one drops it or spills something on it. Showing everyone at once on the tv seems like the best solution.

Keep a set of S video or a/v cable in the car along with the 4 in 1 cable and a spare charger. I know exactly what you mean though, especially when it gets around to the kids hands. By the time it reaches back to you their are multiple windows open and the pictures cant even be seen anymore. Not to mention of the mistress calls while the inlaws have the phone in their hand (lol). Just ranting and talking bs, but do get 1 of those 4 in 1 cable or a docking station for the phone's sake.

Its nice to knw i'm not the only one with this issue. I can tell this cable is gonna be one of the 'must have' accessories for the advantage, for me anyway. Lg style i, nutshell belt clip pouch, good screen protector (i use boxwave crystal clear, as suggested in a different thread) are essential to this device, IMO. Of course, a good bluetooth headset may be suitable to replace the style i, depending on your prefernce. Personally, the only time i just love a headset is while driving. I keep the wired headset that came with the x7501 in the car. It works great, just plug it in and go. No need to turn on device, activate comm manager, turn on bluetooth, set as hadsfree, yo get the idea. I only use it while driving though, i just can't see walking through the mall (or anywhere else) with wires dangling from my head, not for me.

Welcome to the club. At times it seems as if my bt headset's molded to my ear.

But honestly, how many headphone adapters have you gone through?

I think I've just broken the 4th one.
Ok, the first 3 just sort of fell apart. They were very cheap (like £1/£1.50) but I made sure got one which wasn't made of 2 pieces put together at the phone end connector and it has not broken so far. However, today I got the dreaded "only sound in one ear" problem. If you push it to downwards it'll play in stereo again but I can't keep my finger there all the time.
So, what have you guys done? Cause surely you play music on your phone, right?
This is the new one I have..http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-5mm-Headpho...ting_LaptopAccessories_RL?hash=item3357cd4555
Where as this is the old one, which I definitely don't recommend.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Headphone-Ada...ries_MobilePhoneBatteries?hash=item29ffabba93
I bought mine from the seller directstation in January? and so far (touch wood) I've never had a problem with it which is pleasantly suprising as it looks very flimsy
I use a well brand headphone adapter..its for the touch hd but it is standard htc 11pin usb so its perfect..look it up on ebay..i bought 2 for $4 dollars so their cheap but solid
Actually, I put in the wrong link for the good adapter. The Directstation one was the same as the one I bought before and I manage to break 2 of those in under a week. I have changed that now.
The new one has lasted about 1 month or more but that is still too short I think. Besides, I'm not sure if it's the adapter or actually the plug in the Magic itself that's broken.
Man I wish this phone came with a standard 3.5mm headphone jack instead.

Well that was my tough choice to make with Vodafone, they had just anounced the HTC Tattoo when I got my contract and was offered either that or the Magic naturally I chose the Magic as it had the better screen of the two however it is sorley lacking a 3.5mm headphone jack
hmmmmm
Can someone PLEASE recommend me a good IN-EAR headphone from eBay?
I just broke my 3rd one!!!!
I hate in ear headphones with a passion. Lacking bass, sounds different if they just move slightly and....er...I don't like things in my ears.
I've yet to try anything from Etymotic. Apparently they are the bees knees, but not exactly cheap though.
SkullCandys
Once you go SkullCandy, you never go back.

This is the official site but I got mine at the Co-Op of my University campus for 50$
Sound is awesome and they are sturdy as hell. Plus with these buds, you don't hear a peep from the outside world.
I know I sound weirdly "sold" but it was really a revelation when I bought my pair of FullMetalJackets (another model)
cheers

That's no longer true on the bass .... many options for very good bass ear buds now. Including up to extremely expensive $500 earbuds. I have some middle of the line Sennheiser earbuds and the bass is excellent.
Your other points are true.

Best stereo earbuds with mic for Bionic

Anybody have a good recommendation for a set of earbuds which works well with the bionic? My only request is that the earbuds not be the sound-isolating in-the-ear type, and the sound quality be good.
I won a set of the Munitio 9mm Billets at work. They look and sound are very very good. Not a lot of function with the mic on it. Just the one button to answer, hang up, and bring up voice commands. They sound extremely good and look like hollow point bullets which is pretty cool too. I would check them out. The ear piece, mic section, as well as the piece connects the two bud wires to the remainder of the wire is machined aluminium so they feel sturdy as hell. Best Buy has some Modern Combat 3 special edition versions for like 90 bucks.
Klipsh S4. As far as I can tell, it has no equal.
Read up on it to see what I mean.
I was skeptical at first but became a believer after playing my first track with it.
Got rid of my Bose and Beats.

For those curious, as a stop-gap solution, I bought a pair of these:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003OE30KQ
The sound quality is pretty good, and they work fine with the phone. They're big in the ears, but not awful, and I figure they buy me time to look for something else I might prefer. Plus, the price was right.
+1 for these... I have a couple pair of these... one @ work and one in the car... The sound quality is ok and the I've never had an issue with anyone hearing me... I don't recommend these for anyone looking to enjoy all that music has to offer.. I use my QC 15s for that..

Why even bother with wired headphones? Bluetooth is the way to go. 30 foot range, volume controls, track controls. And they are priced from $29 now. No cords, no tangle, and no worries about the static from the headphone jack if you are one of those effected.
I have the Bose MIE2 set. They sound great and the mic does a fairly good job. I have used other earbud style headphones but found them uncomfortable or they simply fall out. The Bose do not go into the ear canal but rest on the "bowl" of your ear and they stay in even when working out.
+ 1 for the Klipsch(sp) s4. I love them like no other, but they are sound isolating.

My Rocketfish™ Mobile - RF-MAB2's are pretty awesome. I use them to listen to music at the gym, at home, outside in the cold, and at work. The SQ on these are pretty damn good.
I have the same pair, and the same phone......my issue is that when I use them on a call the mic volume to too low for anyone to hear me. I tried adjusting the volume on the Bionic and on the headphones with no luck

Once you bite the bullet and spend the $, you'll be glad you did.
You people must be our of your minds to spend so much on earbuds, UNLESS:
- They have super durability.
- They are tangle free.
- They never break.
- They have great treble.
- They have great bass.
- They have a built in microphone.
- & maybe they have a bulit in volume control slider.
To me this is what makes a good set of earbuds, unless you are all filthy rich, I suggest that you size down. In times like these, there is no reason to justify spending over $25 on a pair of earbuds, when your next door neighbor may be starving. Think about others.
[If anyone has any rude backlash about what I said, keep it to yourself, because I will report it to the mods, and your account may face suspension. JUST FYI!]

Some people have different priorities, I spent $800 on custom IEM "earbuds". They are extremely fragile, tangle easily, and have no mic or volume control. Audio quality is one of those things that matters to me in life. I may blow money on that but there are other things I'm sure other people would and I wouldn't. To each his own.
I have a pair of durable earbuds that I got on DealExtreme, usually they are crap there, but I lucked out. They are outstanding. All I do is add the volume control/mic adapter and guess what?!?
I have the headset of my dreams for under $10. And I am an audiophile, let that be known.
I am sorry and I don't mean to be rude, but either you are just stupid, or have lost your friggin mind to spend $800 on one pair of earbuds that someone can steal by swyping them out if your ears, especily if they are fragile! Do you know that you could be feeding kids that don't have food with that money! Look, for you to selfishly spend $800 on fragile earbuds is outright stupid to me.
Again, my intent is not to insult anyone, I would like you to realize that you can do good things with that money and buy a great set of durable high quality earbuds!!!
I'm a big fan of meelectronics stuff. Sound quality is decent, and very affordable

I guess you're right; I should ask myself how many starving kids I could feed before I spend any money. I can't believe I didn't think of that. I do like how you said "my intent is not to insult anyone" right after you just called him stupid. How much did your Android phone cost you? Unless it was free, you should have settled for the free phone and sent your savings to your starving friends.
@deedscreen
So first you threaten to tattle on anyone that replies to your "shame on you for using YOUR money to buy something YOU want instead of giving it to someone else" statement with any rude backlashes but then proceed to blatently insult someone and try to play it off like it was not your intention?
Nice logic there...
If he wants to spend $800 on a pair of earbuds, that's his money and his right to do so.
The sad truth is that there are indeed poor people out there. I used to be ridiculously poor to. No heat, no adequate living conditions, just a 40 foot trailer. Now I live in a nice house and have everything I need.
My point is, not once in my struggle to make a better life for myself and my family did I beg someone else to sacrifice something of theirs for my well-being. And because of that, I'm not going to give money, food or something else that I worked incredibly hard for to someone I don't know. That doesn't mean I don't contribute to charities and events for children because I do, but I can't trust one "starving homeless" person from the next because I have seen many of them leave their squatting area and return to their homes, realizing they are using those signs they hold as a con for free money.
So instead of insulting people and preaching your beliefs on how you think the world should work, lets try to stay on topic.
For me, I bought a $20 pair of Sony earbuds and a Michael adapter for $2 online. It's worked great for the past few years without a problem.

Everyone has their own priorities in life, but I'm a grown ass man and will spend my money (or what little I have) on what I see fit.
Sorry no input on the headphones, I just bought a pair at target for 10 bucks and they sound ok, I don't know what brand they are but they're black, lol.
Ear BUDS
By far the Shure SE535 are the best out there, they Featuring Triple High-Definition Micro-Drivers, utilizes dedicated tweeter and dual woofers to deliver spacious sound with rich bass. Like the other one said starting around 400$ they are a bit expensive. I've found for everyday listening and working out i use a 19.99 set i bought at Walmart and they work just fine. But if you can afford it , really into music, one of the best in the market is Shure SE535 .

on another note:
i bought a pair of iFrogz at walmart for $16. the sound is good BUT every couple of minutes the music stops and i hear "say a command". Thats freakin annoying!!! there is no button or anything, just a mic. has anyone else experianced this. im thinking they are just imcompatile. i like the idea of having a mic but i dont want to buy another set if its just gonna do it on every set.

Not Compatible With Dre UrBeat Headphones?

Hi guys, I've just gotten the Z3C, and am having headphone issues. I have some Dr. Dre urBeat headphones that work perfectly in every other device, but when I connect them to the Z3C, they don't work. It sometimes says that headphones have been connected if I jiggle the jack around, and they might work for a few seconds, but then they always stop working. Every other pair of headphones I have work fine in the phone though. I took the phone back to the shop as I thought it must be faulty, but after trying my urBeats in the shop's display Z3 and Z3C, I encounter the exact same issue! Whereas every other brand of phone they had on display works perfectly.... So are urBeats not compatible with Z3 phones? I've done some research and apparently 3.5mm headphones jacks vary in that some are CTIA and some OMTP so maybe that's the issue? This is an absolute pain in the ass as it seems I've thrown my cash away on these headphones! Any help would be appreciated
Maybe the Z3C is the only one that can recognize crap and refuses to work with it :silly:
I have no idea why it wouldn't work tho, since the Xperia Z I've seen people having issues with their headphones, but i don't see why it would matter.

+1 :highfive:
To the OP -- not sure what plug the Beats uses (CITA or OMTP) but I think Xperias started using the CITA standard a few years back and this is probably the problem (whic is odd because I thought Apple also used CITA and Apple sells Beats headphones). Either way, you can buy CITA/OMTP adapters for a few bucks on Ebay, so all is not lost.

I don't care if you guys think they're crap or not, they were a free upgrade I got from the store after my old headphones kept breaking every 3 months, and these have so far outlasted them.
I just got a CTIA to OMTP adapter and the problem persists. Seems like for some idiotic reason they are not compatible.

See if Beats has a customer service number... maybe there's a solution. Seems odd that they simply won't work. You could also try the Xperia Care forum where you might get an answer: https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z3-Compact/bd-p/xperia_z3_compact
There's a thread there about Sennheiser earphones not working and one suggestion was: "try to clear data for smart connect under settings-apps-all. Also, clean the 3.5mm input."
Yeah I called Sony tech support and they had me clear the data. Problem persisted. So now I emailed the Beats tech support and their reply didn't help. But luckily, the right earphone started cutting out yesterday so I claimed warranty this morning Used the opportunity to switch to Sennheiser CX275s. Works perfectly. Their value is $50AUD less than the Beats and yet the quality is a lot better. Perfect timing for the Beats to break lol. So all is well now These Sony phones and their headphone compatibility issues are a joke though. Really poor.

Xperia Z3 compact, the most disappointing Sony phone I've ever used.

Hey guys, I just wanted to share my experience with this device with you.
So, I bought this phone in January and it was the most excellent phone I've ever used, fast processor, good camera, a nice community backing it up, good audio, you know the rest.
But it wasn't until, like, three or four months after that and I began to have troubles with it. I'll try to list them up:
1. While using it for reading before going to sleep, it would lock itself as if I pressed the power button (and no, it wasn't because of the screen timeout because I have a very high timeout and whenever it locked itself it made the locking sound it normally does when you press the lock button). I guess it has to do with the position I usually hold it when I'm on my bed and about to sleep.
2. Vibration motor issues, the phone used to stop vibrating at random times, I had to give it a shake to start vibrating again, how can you explain that? How is that even possible? God, I just can't understand what was wrong, but I learned to live with it
3. Video playblack issues, it stopped playing any kind of video at random times and I had to reboot it so it could do it. For example, YouTube showed that there was a problem loading the video, Instagram videos would glitch and go black, Snapchat videos won't play, you open the video and it exits as if it has finished, Album app says "Cannot play video", Facebook videos would just show the preview and the loading would remain at zero, and so on... However, this got fixed when I updated to Marshmallow but had to live with it for at least two months until MM released.
4. Audio jack issues (first issue), when I plugged my headphones everything was okay, but when I twisted the headphones plug it would stop playing the music (twist the headphone plug, obviously not disconnecting it; let's say that you have a sort of L shaped earphones plug, you are going to watch a YouTube video so you put your phone in landscape, you rotate the earphones plug so you can hold the phone in landscape properly, phone detects as it was disconnected and stops the video).
And, finally...
5. Audio jack issues (second issue), the headphones would disconnect no matter what I do, even the slightest movement would disconnect it, this frustrates me because I listen to music A LOT, and I couldn't do that on my phone anymore. When trying to disconnect and reconnect the headphones the audio jack cracked and the plastic frame of the phone got unglued, and now I have the chrome audio jack and the plastic frame in my hands because I can't glue it back because it won't fit again.
The last issue just happened a couple of hours ago.
I am so disappointed of this phone, just when I though I have found the perfect phone for me, guess I have to try again with another brand... (not to mention I have seen in a lot of forums that this phone has a lot of issues in terms of hardware and software).
What do you think? Have you had any problems like this? Do you think I have bad luck?
What do you think I should do now?
Leave the comments, I will read them.
Never had an issue with any Xperia phone I've owned. Is your's still under warranty?

Sadly, no. I bought it from a shop where they sell unlocked new phones, but I think that the warranty from Sony has expired.
If it was a new phone in January it has warranty. In Australia it has a two year warranty.

In 4 years of having Xperia phones I've only every had one problem, a cracked screen. I called the service desk and they gave me an address to send it to, I had a new screen in 5 days.
I doesn't matter if the phone was second hand or sold unlocked, it still has a valid warranty (two years in Europe).
Register your phone, you will need the IMEI number.
Then call Sony service and tell them you have a fault. They will talk you though some stuff, get you to try PC Companion, then give you a fault reference number and an address to send it to.
It's worth a try.
i only had audio jack issue that makes weird sounds
Fix for 3 here

I've been using Z3 Compact for about 1.5 years. Believe me man, I dropped my phone into wet cement and cement sucked the phone in, phone was covered in and out in cement for at least half an hour. You know what happened? I went home and washed it, then brushed it to get rid of the dry cement. It still works like a charm! You must be very unlucky.
Best phone I so far got in my Hands. The Camera is the only drawback, but hey, there are mods and fixes. Never had an issue with that phone, it´s a beast in terms of speed and battery, yet tiny enough to fit anywhere in. Yours´ must be a refurbished or something. I´d recommend that phone to anybody I know.
It's a great phone. I dropped this thing (with a tpu case, though) A LOT. I must admit the headphone jack went bad on me. It's short circuiting, so I bought a replacement part.
headphone jack died for me as well. had to order one and replace it. we're not alone in this, google it and you'll find it died for hundreds of people more (who use this phone a lot for music)

Did you replace it yourself? I'm too afraid to do it myself. You have to remove almost everything in the phone to reach the headphone jack. Could a regular cellphone repair place do this job?

I replaced it myself because I said screw it, if it works afterwards, then great, I'll use this phone for longer (but won't ever buy a sony phone). If not, I would've bought smth like a 1Plus X at that time (not spending 500$ on a new phone ever again, I bought the z3c in Oct 2014 when it was just released).
Ordered replacement jack from a chinese online store for 10$.
To my surprise, everything worked as before. The good thing about the components is that you don't have to weld or glue anything, it's all with contacts/sockets. And of course you need some guitar picks, tweezers and a suction cup. You can use a blowdryer instead of a heatgun like I did. Of course it won't be waterproof after that, as you can imagine, the glue on the back panel will only be good enough to stick it back on (doesn't fall afterwards, you just also heat it up a bit before putting it back).
The instructions in this video, before the 3:08 min mark is all you need to do. And then just reverse the process.

Also I had great satisfaction from the fact that I did all this and actually fixed something. Process took place in March 2016, so it's been around 6months already and the headphone jack works with no flaws.
P.S. Didn't bother taking it to a cellphone service/repair center since, at least in my country, they don't have that much experience with repairing waterproof phones. Actually I think they pretty much refuse to do it. Also official Sony centers don't service phones here, hah
So, I am proud user of Z3C. After 14 Months, I've had no problems at all. Camera takes perfect photos, music is great on speakers and NC headphones or even with Sony MDR-V150. Only thing I would like to have is RAW format for photos...
Amazing device with horrible design flaws a.k.a = the jack of death
The worst part of this story is that this sh*t (the jack) got ruined after long time of use, which means: out of warranty, you will have to f*ckyourself and deal with it, because Sony give a sh*t about it and will never recognize that flaw... ever.
Workaround? BT headphones
Downside 1? Latest Radio.apk + MM = No FM radio over BT, music only.
Downside 2? Money, obviously.
Pretty sh*tty scenario for an almighty compact device.
Bottom line: If your jack is ok, dont mess with it... just remember those many customers fallen in this adventure named "Flagship".
Yay, my headphone jack is broked now. Nothing more to add; just wanting to wallow with some fellow sufferers Still in warranty so will try that approach out.
