There are no dates yet for US availability at all, however, there's less than a 5% chance of seeing a CDMA variant. Only T-Mo/AT&T HSPA+ and AT&T LTE. Also, it's looking like these will only be sold in unlocked form directly by Sony (that's what all the rumors are saying so far...) - Verizon NEVER allows phones not sold by them onto their network.
I'd suggest switching to a network that isn't run by abusive control freaks...

Yea, Highly doubt we will being seeing a Sony Droid Z or anything, seeing as Verizon likes to brand every android device as Droid and have exclusive rights to sell unless your brand is strong on its own like the Galaxy S series. Verizon killed motorola with exclusivity in the US market.

Unlocked phone on vzw?

Hey guys, just curious, as I'm having withdrawals from actually having a decent phone that doesn't make me want to use it as a hockey puck.
I have access to a tmobile Samsung galaxy s2, for a cheap price, if I were to unlock it, would it be capable of running on the Verizon network? Obviously with owning a d3, I have a sim card, would it work? Also, again out of pure curiosity, would an unlocked att phone work on our network?

It all depends on if the phones are capable of running on CDMA/EVDO. Do some research on the phones sorry I'm not much help

Google (your phone model) specs and see if the radio bands are ones that are supported by verizon.

No the SGS2 uses GSM and Verizon uses CDMA. Maybe someone would trade you phones?
Even if the phone has CDMA hardware like any Sprint phone, Verizon will only allow devices on their network if they are authorized for use on Verizon.

[Q] US Xperia Z Release Date

Hey, I'm currently waiting for the Z. I love the design and the hardware. What service providers are going to support the phone?, what will the price be?, and when should it be available?
The pricing will around be a steep $800-850 for the unlocked version. Supposed to release in feb end-march first week if the rumors are to be believed!

None of them. You might be able to buy em unlocked, but I'm not sure. The C6603 will work on AT&T HSPA+ but not on LTE. The C6602 will work on AT&T and T-Mobile HSPA+ but doesn't have LTE either.
Verizon and Sprint (and other CDMA networks) won't have any Sony phones any times soon.

The Z and ZL will be available in the US definitely. It will be available in Sony Style stores. They don't post coming-soon items on Sony Style website. You have to check Sony Mobile's website to see what devices are coming. The date for the states might be about a month at latest after other regions (So hopefully by end of April, we'll see it in the States). This is from how the past has been for US market. Don't worry, I'm waiting along with you :fingers-crossed:
Why do I know that the device will come to the US? Sony will get sued if they post something that won't come to the region as false advertisement. It happened to some other regions a while back when they were SE.
I am almost for sure it will be out on at&t... Sony is trying to become a dominate world force again in consumer electronics and the US loves there cell phones

who says the Z doesn't have LTE when it has its own LTE modem built into it. The xperia s is Hspa+ and that's without an LTE modem
Sv: [Q] US Xperia Z Release Date
Sony should bring it with bands for ATT and TMo... like the Nexus phones. They would sell more full price phones. TMo has a lot of people with unlocked phones... many are non US models...
I have a Z on ore order from the UK. Did the same with the Galaxy Nexus... and the Nexus 4. Got my N4 way before most people in the US.

The Z has LTE and HPSA+ variants. Not all LTE models will work with LTE from various carriers. AT&T LTE isn't supported on the Z according to the whitepapers.

Can an Xperia Z bought from Japan/UK be used on a US carrier?

Thanks for explaining, I did go and read up on the different kinds of networks. Kind of a shame, I was really looking forward to using this phone and I don't think Sony would go out of their way to reconfigure their device and get it FCC tested now.

Nearly all international HSPA+ devices work fine on AT&T's HSPA+ network and MVNOs that use the same network, such as Straight Talk's bring-your-own-device SIM plans.
More and more international HSPA+ devices are now supporting AWS1700, required for T-Mobile HSPA in most areas.
Sony has not released a CDMA device in quite some time. However, Qualcomm's latest modem chipsets make doing so far more feasible than it has been in the past, so a Verizon variant is possible. However, a Verizon variant is going to be heavily locked down.
As long as you are on Verizon, you will be stuck with inferior locked down devices. I suggest leaving them for Straight Talk as soon as you can.
I have an extremely beneficial plan on verizon right now; unlimited data, texts and calls from a grandfather plan. My only concern with switching is losing the 4g network and speed (I live off tethering). The only competition I know is t-mobile. Does straight talk or an alternative carrier offer unlimited data at the moment? I have my fingers crossed for Google Wireless some year soon.

[Q] Where to purchase LT30a for use on T-Mobile USA?

Looking to get the LT30a for use on T-Mobile USA's "4G" (really 3.5G) but having a hard time locating online retailers caring this phone. Any advice? I was considering on getting the LT28H until I saw the LT30a (in white) and fell in love; well really lust :silly:
Thanks!

No, unfortunately. There are special drivers needed as it shuts down the part of the cellular function in order to save battery so it's not as easy as just installing an app. Also, the new T-mobile wifi calling for ICS and JB is now part of the system instead of an addon app like the gingerbread one. Luckily I moved to a place where reception is good, because I used to have to rely on WiFi calling all the time.

Well that's a shame. I had heard that it was a driver/kernel issue. I'm using one of those CelFi repeater units from T-Mobile as I was an original BETA tester for the pilot project back in 2010. The unit works well but I recently move from Miami to DC and my area has HORRIBLE T-Mobile signal; im in a true dead zone. The repeater window unit only pics up 1 bar at best :/ and them tries to amplify it to 5 bars in the house which works well but the speed stinks. So I just use WiFi calling 99.9% of the time. This now has me worried about jumping onto one of these non T-Mobile branded Android phones.
Yeah, I know how you feel. The only hope is once the LTE network is up and running that they will be more aggressive in getting other phones, but I am not going to hold my breath.

Wouldn't the T-Mobile version be locked to T-Mobile? If you pay it off in full will T-Mobile give you an unlocked model? I wonder how quickly the HSPA+ model would get flagged on medianet.

Well, I am now having the C6602 HSPA+ version of Xperia Z. Frankly, the speed is satisfactory, but after I tasted the LTE, it seems to be slower and slower
No, they won't sell it to you if you're not their user. And even though you got a way to get the device and pay the full retail price, it will still be locked to Tmo.
Rogers now have the device for 599.99.....I really need to find a way to get that one!

All are the same except for the fact that they are locked to the respective companies + different bloatware - and of course the bootloader is locked.
There is also a 4th option - purchase the phone from Sony Stores directly - and it will be factory unlocked just like iPhones at Apple stores.
Rogers currently has the cheapest listed price - but they will charge $50 for unlocking the phone (as will all the other carriers) - not sure if there are other costs as well - I have read that the listed prices are only valid for Rogers customers. You may need to sign up for a plan and quickly cancel.
Also factor in the sales tax.
I'm currently on the C6906 model my Canadian friend gave me that he got from the Sony store. It is working perfectly fine on the AT&T network here in NYC and I'm getting LTE. It's kind of weird seeing HSPA+ sometimes but either way, I'm loving this phone. The Z1 that Bell and Telus carry will work on AT&T's network but only if you get Bell or Telus to unlock it after purchasing it off contact. There is absolutely no bloatware on the Sony unlocked version (guessing there is on the carrier models) but there are also no headphones.
I'm not sure if or when the U.S. is getting the C6906 model but I'm sure they'll be popping up around the internet for everyone to purchase soon.
