use some troubleshooting tools to find whats happening, maybe some app runns wild for unknown reasons.
Check in development settings something with show cpu stuff, that can be handy for that. It shows cpu utilization etc. Any process nane there you can google.
if in doubt, go to settings, apps, running, turn some stoff there off, go to cached in same screen, repeat, go back and forth till you find the filthy process
at own risk off course.
its possible an app uses you data a lot and hoggs it, plenty of ways finding that out, like set everything to manual sync to eliminate.
check which apps use lots of data, etc.
Or root device, warranty now void, all own risk, get autostarts app and check those on connection triggered. Disable the buggers you wanna keep.
when culprit found, find developer thread or website and report the bug lol with proof its that app

Thanks for the info..will try these things out .

So my fellow Australians. I don't know if like myself you experience the following anoying behaviour when loading pages on 3G/HSPDA. (using non-stock carrier provided rom AND modem)
Note: using a T branded rom seems to make no difference for me.
1. Big data Pages load a bit on H+
2. Pauses at some point. Sometimes for more than 5 seconds.
3. Network drops to 3G briefly then kicks back to H. Then finally H+ and the page loads quickly all in one go.
4. Annoyingly on the most data heavy pages in pauses AGAIN! just before it finishes loading.
I learnt a bit about TCP buffers and Kernel parameters that control them and came with this init.d script which, for me has MASSIVELY! improved the loading times on the browser by smoothing out the memory buffer.
Tested on Samsung JB leaks but should work on all Samsung roms... or not work but certainly not break anything.
http://db.tt/rLV1hT28
Hope it helps guys!

So what exactly does this script change?
Will it work on Telstra? And what exactly does it do?
No harm in trying on Telstra. Just delete the init.d script if it's not good.
The script tweaks some TCP settings in /proc which change the memory buffers for HSPDA and other properties I found a good online tutorial and trial and error did the rest... have a look at the script!

Hey mate nice work. I have noticed when I flashed Omega v24 JB Rom or any JB Rom I loose my APN,s and when the phone first starts up after a fresh Flash, a pop up apears on my screen for about half a second and from what I glimpsed it said it couldn't get something from my Telstra network (Guess it is the APN,s it cant get). Is this because my Telstra GS3 is GT-I9300T and the JB Roms are cut from GT-I9300 that are not released in Aus yet? When I put my APN's in manualy I get my 3G/GSM internet back but Accu Weather cant find my location and FC's tried another Clock weather widget that I use all the Sense 4.0 style and it can't find my location (Auto or Manually no difference). So I flashed back to Omega v13.1 ICS and all is fine.Do you think your mod might help? PS. I also flashed Android Revolution HD 9.0.0 and flashed his Super Wipe script for a clean install thought it might help but no difference still no APN's.
Cheers - I will give it a go. Currently using Red Bull Mobile Australia which uses Vodafone.
I wonder if this has anything to do with Fast Dormancy as it really does sound like what it was invented for and happening due to your description, If so you might be able to turn it off with the FastDormancy Toggle for i9300 app on Play.
I've never noticed these connection problems on Optus but then again they don't support it but I think Voda/Telstra might since Telstra supports HD Voice while the others don't

Similar idea but more subtle. Keeping data flowing more e evenly was the goal. Specifically to eliminate the long pause and then big chunk download after

Settings FC on ICS, with Internal Memory at half

I'm getting "Non Responding" box (old FC box...) on every ICS Rom I've tryied till now. Talking about ICS TW, stock or Custom.
When I go to Settings-Applications, the screen take some time to show apps (it's normal, OK), but after that, it doesn't show the apps size.
It freezes some seconds, then go Black screen, except for the notification bar. Nothing works, except the screen time-out.
After about 30 seconds, the message "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped working" or so, appears.
This issue appears frequently after a massive apps installation, i.e., after a data/factory reset changing Rom.
In other words: once the 2GB of internal memory are half-filled, the probability of this issue is high.
The phone works right, otherwise; but is hard to push big apps into the SD. I must open Apps2SD, be care to the "time window" while it shows "computing...", and force-push to SD, before Settings FC in the underground.
Sorry if I have been too long. The issue is really easy to see in the real life...
Nobody has/had this issue?

I've buy my Note in a very seriuos big shop. It's N7000 for Europe, original unlocked.

Using deodexed LC1 for a long period, I think the most stable thing I've been using.

What kernel are you on? What rom?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Notecore 14.1 OC
CleaNote v6
But this behavior appears on ICS, on any kernel-Rom I've tryied, Last Philz's are glam, but same thing. Hydracores are the worst, even with CleaNote!
Best w. Notecores and Speedcores. Std or OC doesn't influences noticiablely....
Edited; this behavior remembers me sadly the fatal combination Milestone-Droid with official Froyo update, who had same problem, amongst others...
Run a scan with the following app, sounds like you may have damaged emmc. If the scan crashes its bad news.

Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I yet had this app, but only made brick-bug test ("bad chip").
Anyway, "test passed"....
Another suspect behavior: if I click Storage on Settings, it takes almost 5 minutes (!) to display the USB storage occupation.
Never seen that on GBread, even with a huge number of apps.
Edited: writing this with the Note. It really works, as you can see. In fact, the Settings issue is the only noticiable one.
Just as a last thing, try removing external sd card, see if you get same behaviour after reboot.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Thanks, I will try that tomorrow. Bed is calling me...
Edited on Monday 26th: Same thing without the external-SD
Anyway. Waiting for a good JB to see if this behavior stops.

Big go up to this thread, sorry . Maybe this can help someone.
I've flashed a JB Rom, the Sweet Rom v 2,5. I have almost a half internal apps memory occuped, and things are right! :good:
No more Settings FC (by now). It seems that something went wrong with the ICS SD-USB organization, at least on my device...
Now things go faster an safer.

The phone seriously slows down while updating apps

I have observed this for the last few months and it's very annoying. While updating apps, the phone slows down seriously and almost stops working. I have seen this on ICS as well as JB. Has anyone else experienced this and how to solve this issue?
4.1.2 JB LSZ Union ROM v5, KSO Modem, speedmod K-5 kernel, Carrier: AT&T (US)
Slows down lil bit (not ’seriously' - like you said), music playback stutters while installing / updating apps.
May be because of less IO ?
This is happening also to me. Very annoying. If i update a couple apps it almost stops working german rom here.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
happens to me too, is annoying as the phone pretty much stop responding. I have LBE Security which further makes issue worse by scanning the installation too.
Happened to to me to. On Trinidad and Tobago jb 4.1.2 official.

+1.... and if I am dowloading using torrent same thing happens annoying....:banghead:
Even when I take backup using titanium not that much but it is noticeable...
I have exfat formated sd card class 10 and using directory bind so all my apps data or what ever I install goes into the card.... I wonder could that be a issue?????

I'm running asylum cm10 and its fine...

Running stunner 2 no slow down when installing updates, apps from the market at all.
But then everything is twice as fast and snappier than all the TW based ROMs I've tried.

How to return back to ICS from JB without data loss.

I use my phone and its features mostly for my work stuff. So it is always a trouble making backups and yet lost some good piece of it. This is the reason i dont frequently change my phones rom. Yes i try them but just forba while or maybe a week or two. But then return back to the stock. I was on my stock ICS which was rooted via the exynos abuse with no cwm or any other bootloader. 2 days back i got an update of about 501 mb and it updated me to JB without formattibg my phone.
I was happy thinking that i received it very late hoping it will be fixed and tweaked from known issues. But unfortunately it isnt and full with crapoy bloatwares which i uninstalled using hiuninstall utility. The lag is gone but the huge battery drain is kind of annoying. I cant just keep my phone plugged in all the time.
I want to know a way by which i csn go back to ics without formatting my phone.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
You will not be able to do that. If you managed to get it to boot with no wipes there would be so many FC's it wouldn't be usable the best you could do is maybe flash philz kernel for you ROM and try to flash a custom jb tw ROM there are some good ones and the if you still have bad battery drain use better battery and see what is using up your battery the most and also use CPU spy to see if your phone is going g in to deep sleep. Location services on tw uses a lot of battery you could try turning it off and see if that help.

[Q] Go back to ICS?

I have installed CM 1.2 and I hate it. The wifi is worse, all of the popular apps (Instagram, Facebook, Whatsapp, etc.) are not available trough Google Play, the battery drains about 5% per hour in idle, it's buggy because it won't lock when I press the power button.
I can't find any differece between CM and JB except that CM has a bit different settings and more bugs.
How do I go back to ICS? JB sucks on P880 because the phone will get laggy due to low RAM.
If I go back to ICS, can I use my warranty for the phone or is it screwed because I have unlocked the bootloader? Is there no way to lock it again?

I did not say that CM is laggy. I tend to never get spelling errors on the CM keyboard, but on the JB stock keyboard I do a lot of spelling errors...
Anyway I hate CM because:
- Sometimes I can not lock the phone by pressing the power button.
- When the phone is locked the display will be black for 2-3 seconds when I press the power button
- My WiFi connection is weaker
Yeah, it pretty much just feels like JB but more buggy...

If your ROM is so good coded, why can you not make a guide that is easy to follow? There are so many ****ty steps and tons of different threads made by kids that you have to go through in order to install CM.
Also the battery icon is disproportionately thin. It's so ugly and looks so unaligned that I want to cry every time I see it.

My first impression when trying to install CM on a smartphone is "this is messy and the documentation is bad", which doesn't increase my hope for the ROM at all... If the developers can't make it easy to install, then how good is the actual code?

to me it looks like that!
- if u cant lock the phone properly then maybe something is wrong with your gapps u used.
- if u have big latency to unlock maybe: either u run on low cpu values/ powersave or conserve governor/ homescreen is with some live wallpaper connecting to the internet to send ads and a theme thats overweight.
- wifi definately isnt weaker. maybe it sometimes shows wrong signal bars on statusbar ( for example im above my router and sometimes i see 3 bars out of 4, but checking the signal further i see that its at his maximum power ).

but we are on 5s now and still the galaxy s4 is better when we buy apple, we pay the apple logo. this apple logo costs one and a half months salary in greece.
