[MOD] ExtSd2InternalSd *working on xperia z 4.2.1 roms only* - Xperia Z Android Development

Coming from a long line of Samsung phones (GS2,3 note 1&2) one of the most useful mods I've ever come across is mattiadj's ExtSd2InternalSd script. So after a little poking about I managed to get his script working on my new xperia z . mattiadj as very kindly allowed me to repost the changed script for us all to enjoy.

Can you make one script for xperia TX?
Sorry if it's a wrong forum, because TX has no forum and it's dead there.

thx for bringing the script to the xperia z. Have had it on my note 2 and missed it.

Would be nice if you could explain exactly what this app does, since not all of us came from samsung phones. And at least viewers don't have to look for the original thread to read what it's all about. =)
PS: The original app also support extfat. What about this version?

From what I understand about it is, that it mounts the external sd as the internal sd and vice versa. The phone then recognizes the external card as internal storage and installs the app data and any other data (e.g. Downloads) on it as it would do on the original internal storage. About exfat, I dont't know much, but I think the kernel from the Z doesn't support exfat right now and the samsung one does support it.

No prob. Glad, I could help.

Thanx for the clarifications. I have another questions though. Seeing that it will now use the external sdcard as an internal sdcard, what happens to the actual internal sdcard? Will it still be used? Or it just stays there and becomes redundant?

Ive rooted my XZ LOCKED BOOTLOADER.. I ve tried Link2SD so I can move and install apps to my SD but that was no good..anyway found your thread here and applied it to the letter with my 4 GB sd and after reboot script manager was granted his SU permissions and after that the phone died...rebooted itself again and after script manager gained its SU permission it died again...and again and again...dont know why and dont know how to fix it..

to stop the reboots simply go to recovery and wipe data and cache. Dont know why you would use this if you have only a 4gb card??

how can i change again

AFAIK the actual internal sdcard is purely used as storage, as the external sdcard would be used, if it wasn't reversed. Correct me, if I'm wrong, 'cause I'm no expert.

Thanks...meaning i have to wait a bit longer
can we get the S-OFF without XTC ???
Hi ,
Firstly thanks for this wonderful guide that you have compiled
as of now my device (purchased in INDIA) has a S-ON as you have mentioned that the S-OFF is possible only using the 'XTC' chip which getting here locally is next to impossible , is there any possibility that in future we my be able to S-OFF our SALSA without the XTC chip ..
was going thru the WWW and I found this :
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever
will the unrevoked (or a similar ) software be available for the SALSA users.
Thanks!!

Hi Raskal I have sent you a PM !! regarding the xtc
anyone lend me a xtc?
I will send it back when I am finish to s-off
Guys I need some more help/links to move all(or most ) of my Apps to SD card
1. I have now S-OFF my HTC salsa , previously it was S-ON had to get the same locally in Mumbai it was done via the XTC Clip
2.Have root my phone ( have the superuser app on my screen )
So what shall be the next step to move the apps to SD , I have read several thread and all I can conclude that now I shall need to format my SD card ( with ext 2/3 or something) so that the apps I install on my phone consider my SD card as internal memory and install the same on the ext partition. But I need to know the exact procedure to do the same , I could not find it any where on the Salsa forum...
pls help me what should be my next step to move my apps to SD ...I am already using the APP2SD pro but it cannot move the apps like FAcebook/Whats App and other to SD , it moves only those apps which can be moved to SD even without the software !!
Right, what I did was install links2sd. I formatted 500mb of my 2gb SD card onto ext2 this can be done using mini partioner program of the net. Once created start your phone as normal and open links2sd. It will ask I select what ext u have. Follow instructions that follow on app. This will now enable u to move stuff easier. As for Facebook, Google maps voice dialer, the biggest system eater, get an app that removes or uninstalls system apps. In links to SD there's options to forever move/install to SD. Reinstall the system apps again and there u have it. More internal memory. I also use app2 SD enabler for other apps forcing them to SD. It gets annoying setting it up but truley well worth the time. I use rom toolbox from the market to manually okay with settings including wiping of data and caches. So far this is the better way I've seen. For this model to gain that all important space we need.

Hi ,
I tried as you informed but I still cant get the apps to SD in fact my phone does not even recognize the partition .. I had formatted my Card as 512m to ext/2 & balance as FAT32..
Could you pls help me with a link or a step by step guide to move /install my programs to my SD Card.... I need it so desperately !! thanks
EDIT: Okay no can successfully move or install the apps to the ext 3: pls refer the youtube link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8G94qerkSX4
you may or may not create the SWAP partition as for what I understand its only needed as a page file as in MS Windows I havent created the SWAP partiton as it also requires a SD Faster Card
But size shown on to the android : " ie. in manage apps " where we have tabs as 1downloaded , 2All,3 on SD Card & 4 Running ", on the internal storage below its shows 75Mb free , I was expecting it shall show the entire EXT3 Pattion as free ??meaning it woud show internal memory as say 512mb in my case (ext was 512mb )
Just for the information i have successfully moved the apps like facebook and whats app to and the memory is now free
Special thanks to BigBearEvo
As long as the apps in the system can be got from the market, uninstall them and reinstall on SD. Nps glad I could help!

Purchased XTC Clip and successfully have Salsa S-off. Followed instructions to root phone too many times to count with no success. Superuser force closes every time.
Does PH11IMG.zip need to be deleted before starting up recovery to prevent it continually looping on Hboot? Or is something else going wrong, such as PH11IMG.zip not installing properly?
Ok. I used the RUU from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18634857&postcount=7 and got root access. Messy work around and my daughter is now begging for the facebook button to be reassigned, but at least link2sd is working.

[GUIDE]GT-S6102 Link Data & Dalvik-Cache Manually to SDExt2 via Root Explorer

In my recent post, I posted SNS Integration that I deodexed it myself, but recently I got some trouble,
because it drain my internal storage (About 15MB space) and I've been thinking how to solve it.
This guide is for those who use Link2SD, because Link2SD cannot move data into sdcard second partition.
When you see SNS in system apps via Link2SD, the data files consume up to 15MB,
because I sync my twitter and facebook to my contact, and this cause a problem for me,
because It consumes internal storage.

This is how I do it :
Warning!
If you want to link data files manually, the EASIEST way is NOT to link any lib files with Link2SD. Leave it unlinked, so you can easily link the ENTIRE data folder.

First, you must have link2sd, so that you have sdext2 folder in your /data/ , like this :
Then open your Root Explorer.
You will see your root directory like this :
Then tap the data folder :
After that, scroll down until you see data folder in your data folder (Dataception)
Then tap it.
Now it should shows all your app data in folder like this :
Now choose the App Data Folder that we want to link,
in this case I use com.sec.android.app.sns (SNSProvider that I deodexed in my previous post)
Then long press the folder, and it should show dialog box like this, select Copy.
After that, go back to data folder, and locate your sdext2 folder
Tap sdext2 folder, and locate data folder in it.
Then tap it, and tap Paste.
Then scroll down and see your com.sec.android.app.sns in it, then long press it.
The dialog box should show up, scroll down and select Link to this folder.
After that, back to /data folder
Then tap data folder in data folder again to enter it. After that, scroll down to see com.sec.android.app.sns folder, we are going to delete it.
Long press the folder, the dialog box should show up, tap delete, tap yes.
Then tap create link, and voila! your com.sec.android.app.sns folder is linked to your SDCard second partition!
It should look like this :

Thanks to MNgez question, I was able to try this way on dalvik cache files, That Link2SD don't link if we don't link our application with it, like dalvik cache files for system app.
So yesterday I experimented it again, and it works! Just do the same way for data files, what differs is we link the dalvik cache file, not data folder. If it succeed, Link2SD also recognize our manual dalvik cache link like this :
Open your Root Explorer. Then navigate to /data/dalvik-cache like this, and you will see dalvik cache files :
Then scroll down to see the dalvik cache file that we want to link,
In this case I'll link PhoneSky (Google Play Store) so we search for the file that has phonesky in it.
Then long press the [email protected]@[email protected], the dialog box should shows up, select Move.
Navigate back to /data, then tap sdext2
Scroll down, until you see dalvik-cache folder, tap it.
You should see dalvik-cache files in it, then just tap paste.
Then scroll down until you see your newly dalvik cache file, Long press in it
The Dialog box should shows up, scroll down and tap Link to this file.
Go back to /data folder, navigate into dalvik-cache folder and tap it.
After you're in /data/dalvik-cache folder, tap Create Link
If it succeed, it should look like this :
Voila! Your dalvik cache file has been linked to your SDCard second partition, and Link2SD recognize your manual link! Enjoy!

Yes, because as far as I know there's only a2sd from darktremor that can move app data to SDCard second partition,
so I've been searching for a way to link app data myself with Root Explorer.
If you use link2SD, you can just link application files, it will link dalvik cache too by default in your sdext2.
This will work, because Link2SD support Stock ROM and you will need root permission for Root Explorer.
With Link2SD -> you can link apk, dalvik cache, lib files but NOT data files, so I post these.

if you have 1510 or 1512 patch of TD then you can get rex.apk from system folder--> app folder.. just install that.. you can get link option in that version of root explorer..
hit thanks button, if it helps!

Good news, it works. Just move the real dalvik cache file in /data/dalvik-cache to /data/sdext2/dalvik-cache, create link to its original folder and it will work, just like data files.
I will add to first post soon.

Yes, just delete the link file in /data/data or /data/dalvik-cache, then move the original files to its original directory

i'm only try one by one as same as u told me before...
any way its could be taking much time if only one by one
Could you help me... Please...
Becouse actually i love Link2SD since its more stable than a2sd DT
and also Link2SD always Updating not just like a2sd DT that already stop the Development
Link2SD is already support Ext4 that Better than Ext3 or Ext2.
A2sd DT only Ext2 we must modify the scrip to make it support ext3 and ext4 but still always Support BOOTLOOP
May God Bless U...
It's working on S5360 too. Nice thread bro
This version..
Ok than.. ill try to upgrade REX first.

[MOD] [GUIDE] [250214] Pit Files for creating a larger partition for app data

Update #2 (25th February 2014) - 6gb and 8gb variants now available for i9100G users, sorry for the delay!
Are you bored of having to move apps to SD?
Bored of facing a stock issue of not even being able to move apps to your internal SD?
Then re-partitioning is the option for you, you may choose between a 1gb, 3gb, 4gb, 6gb and 8gb app partition (stock partition is just 2gb), please remember that the internal SD partition reduces in size accordingly.
There is a pit for everyone:
3-8GB Pit Files - For users with plenty of apps, who are bored of moving items to SD, not to mention curing the issue of not having enough space on the app partition to peform app updates, with these pits, this is a thing of the past! This is the package most people will want!
1GB & 2GB (Stock) Pit Files - For users with VERY few apps who want more internal storage space for photos/videos/files etc.
Please ask on this forum if you are not too sure which size pit suits your usage!
GUIDE
The usual rules apply, You will:
Lose all data on your phone, therefore backup anything essential including both internal and external memory and any settings or configuration, i.e. you are starting from fresh! You are warned, this will be like coming home with a new phone, except a hell of a lot more useful now we can control this essential element!
You know this already because your an XDA user
So what do you have to do? Read on for my guide:
1) Run Odin 1.85, put your phone in to download mode (vol down/home/power button) and connect to PC via USB
2) Tick re-partition box
3) Click PIT button and select the pit file of your desired app partition size.
4a) Click PDA and select your stock official samsung jellybean rom - Edit- please remember if you use a rom that is not native to your region, it would be wise to flash the appropriate radio modem afterwards to ensure you get the signal strength you'd expect
4b) OR Flash your persnonal choice of kernel in *.tar format and pit file, reboot to CWM ( power button/vol up/home button) and install new rom or restore nandroid and boot as normal and skip to number 9 in this guide
5) Flash and wait for reboot
6) Let the phone reboot and wait until the android chap finishes his spinny wire ball belly animation and then remove the battery and do a factory reset using the usual power/vol up/ home trick.
7) Let it boot so you can check that you are happy with the result. ( I didn't, but you might want to)
8) Now flash your chosen rooted kernel and either stick with stock rom or enter CWM and flash your own custom rom.
9) When your phone boots, you may get a notification to format usb storage, so yes if prompted! If not then please follow Dorimanx's advice of fixing the partition format by:
dorimanx said:
connect to pc, go to recovery, wait 15sec, then open my computer (windows) see the sd drives, one will be broken, when you try to open, windowser will ask to format, do it. and be happy.
Click to collapse
@dorimanx - Thank you :good:
10) Remember that Android likes automatically deciding where apps go, so sometime it tries to put stuff to SD itself (app requests it), it is worthwhile checking your installed apps to makes sure they went to internal app partition, you can tell this by either:
a) Look in Titanium back up, go to the move/integrate section and see if any apps show as moveable from SD to internal, if so run the batch process to put them on your nice new app partition, otherwise you may have issues running those apps.
b) If you don't have Titanium (why not?) then check the harder way by looking at app manager and swipe to the right to look at SD app, sort by size and then individually move ones back to internal storage.
11) That easy! Here is a shot of my resulting app manager
Files attached to post including original pit in case you want it back to stock values!
Enjoy!
Yes!! Will be much obliged

Dear I9100G users!
I am looking to provide pit files for controlling the ratio of your 16gb internal storage, to provide options for you to enjoy larger app storage, just like I have done on the standard i9100 model.
I offer app storage pit files to cater from 1GB all the way to 12gb.
My thread for the i9100 is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47746656#post47746656
If anyone is interested in testing my initial pit file (i do not own a G model) and are happy and experienced enough to deal with any side affects, then please send me a PM along with what size would like your app partition to be and I will respond with 24 hours with a file to test.
Of course I can't take responsibility for side effects, so please only serious users only, please read my i9100 thread to check you understand what is involved and that you are confident in assisting.
Once I have confirmation that I have the files created properly, I will update this thread for all users to public download.

I do have one question.
Will it preserve all other partitions intact and does the required changes to internal and SD storage? I mean like, EFS partition must be preserved.
Dang. You were first
I suspect that repartition affects the ratio between /data and /sdcard partitions. If efs is affected its very risky. I would like to know that too. Even though I would not do that to my device just right now.
Sent from my GT-i9100G using xda app-developers app
Removed as data no longer valid
metalgearhathaway said:
Only the ratio of memory allocated to app storage (data_img) and internal SD (UMS) are affected, all other partitions are definitely un-modified.
I have a 3GB test version prepared and attached to this post.
I CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH THAT AT THIS EARLY STAGE YOU ARE TAKING THE RISK BY TRYING, IF IT WORKS THEN GREAT! IT SHOULD WORK FINE, BUT NEVER SAY NEVER! i HAVE ALSO ATTACHED THE STOCK PIT FILE SHOULD YOU NEED TO REVERT. PLEASE FOLLOW THE FLASHING GUIDE SHOWN ON MY I9100 THREAD FOR INSTRUCTIONS.

How bad can it get? Now lets say I theoretically messed up all the partitions including efs completely. Could it get so bad that I could hardbrick the device (not even possible to get it working through odin) or could I just flash a stock ROM and after that try to get CWM on it and restore an old backup including my efs partition?
You should provide more Infos on how to recover in the worst case... And btw. thanks a lot for your efforts!

Nope, as the OP says, I am testing here and that's why I am offering disclaimers, realistically, I am looking for a developer to look at it, as they will understand more about getting themselves out of trouble. Absolutely no offence intended of course!
However, recovering from an issue, which there shouldn't be any, is to follow the flashing procedure I have detailed above using the stock pit file I have attached to my beta test post.

I'm actually very thankful that you offer this possibility to us.
But even a tester should be aware of how to fix things in the worst case. This is what I was asking for.
If you cannot or do not want to provide this information at the moment its ok, but it would be like the cherry on top of the cream
Oh... edit again ... I was talking about if it could hard brick the device and if not then am I right with my assumption of how to get it back running...? thats what I meant with information...

Looking at other information, should the wrong pit information be entered it should be recoverable performing the action I describe in my last post. This would suit someone with a spare handset and/or a gun-ho attidude! LOL
I wish I had one to verify myself, on the i9100 thread I was able to post after taking all risks on my own phone, everything went perfectly to plan!

bokbokan's 4.4.4 SD Bootable Rom (broken link... no mirror found, compiling via zip)

Trying to revive bokbokan's good work here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2583952 to install a ROM on my SD card for pure SD card boots.
Unfortunately the SD card image download links
SD Card images
HD: sdcard-hummingbird-cm11.0-v1.img
HD+: sdcard-ovation-cm11.0-v1.img

are down and I'm not able to find them anywhere.
I did stumble upon this:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/50u3ly90m2vemdb/bokbokan_sdcard-ovation-cm11.0-v1-boot.zip/file
Judging by the filename, I'm assuming it's the same thing as the original .img he posted.
The contents of this file are
- kernal
- MLO
- ramdisk.cwm
- ramdisk.stock
- u-boot.bin
- uImage
The first step in his instructions are to
Use Win32DiskImager (or other similar tools) under Windows, write the downloaded and extracted SD image into your SD card.
Click to collapse
So I'm confused as to what to do. If my assumption is correct that the mediafire download link is the same as the original .img file, what alternate way must be undertaken to write these files to my SD card.
Win32DiskImager will only burn .img files.
I'm hesitant to just trial and error things, hence this thread looking for advice..
Anyone know what should be done?
What first comes to my mind is to extract the zip, and then use some program (not sure which), to make the extracted zip files into a .img file to burn.
But then again, I'm not sure the schematics of all this and if this will be sufficient enough to make the SD card boot as instructed.
Would be great if I could find a mirror (or if someone who has it backed up somewhere could share it!), or else if there's an easy safe way to convert the .zip file I found into a .img like above?
Again, the link in the thread is broken, so I'm not even sure what was included in the original .img file.
So far as I know, this is the highest Android version compatible for SD Bootable Roms.. anyone more familiar with the Nook and Android system can assist to help bring this back to life again?
That can't be right bruman2012 as the file is only 7MB , I would like this image as well .
Is the Dev still active ? He may have a copy .

I had no trouble getting the ROMs from Android File Host, but that scammy DevHost site is a nightmare. Searching for the image filename took me to succulents site: https://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2014/09/24/cm11-0-kitkat-android-4-4-4-for-nook-hd-sdcxxx-24sep2014/
I suggest you try his image. He mentions this ROM. The only trouble is his instructions are sooooooooooooo complex
But, if you get his SD card image, it just might work following the other directions.

I did come across that. I was a bit perplexed by the instructions, and the kernel they reference ('flash_kernel_fuzz_8x8_SDC') goes to a 400 Bad Request page, so I was a bit iffy about it.
Furthermore, The link you posted is for hummingbird (nook HD), not ovation (Nook HD+).. it looks like they don't have a 4.4.4 SD Bootable rom

Well bokbokan's img.zip is 8.12MB...
The files in the zip I posted might be the core files (assumption as I've never had a copy of it ), but it's a .img so It's designed to be flashed to an SD and partition it properly... Not sure how to properly convert the zip if this is the case (and if they are the same files)...
That'd be awesome if bokbokan is still active and could post a mirror. I'm sure he put in a lot of work it's a shame it's virtually no where to be found at the moment. Does not seem likely though.. looking at his profile

Yeah, I wasn't sure whether you wanted HD or HD+.
Succulent did produce an SD-based KitKat ROM for the HD+, however. That's here: https://iamafanof.wordpress.com/category/nook-hd-2/
It's billed as for a device with a "bricked" EMMC so it runs entirely on the SD card. Seems like it should work even if the EMMC is OK.
I checked bokbokan's profile on Android File Host but only the ROM files were available
So I may have found a mirror.. haven't tested it out yet.
Just searched on google for 'bokbokan' and came across this site
https://pan.baidu.com/s/1dDvHHlf&xi...LkJrhhL17rUj8UQ0ZD_Ij7fcXHBEsGghQ#list/path=/
Had to guess my way through a download link since it is all in chinese... but seems to have the file i'm looking for -- sdcard-ovation-cm11.0-v1.img.zip
It's 8.1MB total posted on 2016-08-02 23:24 but dated 2013-12-28 14:14
also has a seemingly non-bokbokan rom in the folder cm-11-20131226-UNOFFICIAL-sgt7-ovation.zip . . . .
I can post a mirror once It's done finishing downloading. Like I said it's only 8.1mb.. I don't know if it's from a chinese web server or what, but it's taking it's sweet time..
Going about 12.2KB/s at the moment..... so taking about 10 minutes just to finish the download.
Aside from the identical filename, is there anyway to check if this is a legitimate version of bokbokan's original sd boot img file?
Okay, it finished... once again this is a UNTESTED link from a possible untrusted source . . . .
but it's the only copy I can find.
As said, I have not had a chance to try it out yet, just found it and I'm about ready to head out for the day. Anyone know of a way to verify it it's safe/legitimate?

Trying this out right now. Currently on a LineageOS 14.1 EMMC boot.
The dev-host link is hell, but it does provide the original MD5 sum. I was able to use WinMD5Free to verify the MD5 sum matched to the mediafire link. So this is a confirmed mirror.
Will update once installed.

Did not work at all. Boots as normal. Detects a new SD card while booted, but does nothing in the boot menu with it inserted.
It's been a while since I've played around with the Nook -- hoping someone smarter than me will eventually chime in
Is this because I have LineageOS 14.1/Android 7.1.2, while trying to boot this with TWRP 3.0.1?
Do I need to get another EMMC rom, or revert to CWM for this to work?

More testing on this...
Ended up installing [ROM][4.4.4][Ovation][EMMC][UNOFFICIAL] SlimKat as my main EMMC rom. Had to reformat my previous lineage 7.1.2 install to EXT4 on the cache and data partitions.
Booted up, flashed SuperSU 2.82 in TWRP to obtain root permission.
Once properly rooted, inserted bokbokan's SD card per the instructions in his post.
Pressed the 'n' button to go to boot menu, and installed the latest CM11 SD boot version I could find -cm-11-20141129-UNOFFICIAL-ovation-sdcard.zip.
Takes a few minutes to install, I reset.. and now, with the SD card in, have the option of choosing my main rom (currently slimkat 4.4.4) or Alternate Rom (SD boot rom).
And all is well! I'm going to have to mess a bit more to see what I can have on my EMMC while still maintaining the SD boot. Is it as simple as keeping the file partitions EXT4? Not sure.
Otherwise, hope my trek to get this back up and running has helped someone else as well!
As far as I know, this is the way to latest (albeit old) and last SD boot rom published for the Nook HD+-- CM12 SD boot installs are non-existant.
Still, very happy with the speed on the SD card rom and CM11 in general! Thank you bokbokan. . . wherever you are!

Files not showing on Phone only on computer, trying to restore game data...

Hi,
I'm fiddling with my new s20 FE, I needed to manually add folders to My Files in 'Android /Data' to transfer data from a game (which I've done before on other devices) However, when connecting S20 to PC I can access all files and copy/paste into place, BUT on my phone none of these files will show up (No Files) and the game is not responding to the data I added.
Also tried through DeX and files don't show. Hidden files is checked and developer mode is on. Any ideas?

You can't access /data partition without root or custom recovery.
@XDHx86
You can access the partition with selected file managers, e, g, Total Commander.

Well here is your solution buddy, you updated to 11 yet? I don't know if it's available to 10 since this is new info to me.
You can try Solid Explorer too. It is excellent and you can have access to android data and obb.
Thx Ill look at those options!

Did you figure out how to transfer over the data with total manager apk? Mine won't allow a copy and paste

From the the site homepage it says it only supports accessing /data partition from android 11, so i think it shoul only work on android 11 as i said.
Have you tried this? It doesn't need root.
sounds like Total Commander have decided to copy LCG's X-plore with the two panel windows.
all decent file browsers have been able to access storage/0/emulated/Android/data the whole time and micro SD equivalent too.
it's only with android 11 that google's new security layer has removed that access for SDcards. their new security has also made the file system 6 times slower in copying or moving files etc. hopefully OEMs will pressure google to fix it.

I believe you misunderstood the topic of the thread. We're discussing the possibility of accessing /data partition without root permission on android 11, even with scoped storage security feature. You can read about it the the link in the 3rd post above.
I never heard about google forbidding access to sdcard from apps, can you elaborate?

I think I understood OK, changes to the file system include no longer accessing Android/Data. that's not the data partition as far as I'm concerned, it's still accessible from internal storage but not from external.
