[ROOT/SOFF] One Click ROOT + SOFF for Nexus 4 - Nexus 4 General

Just like my other threads, this one is about the Google Nexus 4 and Root-A-Lot. From what some people have told me this thing has been a hit or miss, but it's rooted and s-off'd a lot of users devices, phone and tablet.
I am not the creator of this one click, but I was told it could be shared freely, as it also describes in the .ZIP contents.
I did not personally try this out myself (My One X is already rooted + S-OFF) so be sure to check it out and read all the documents before trying out this new root exploit.

It did finally pick up my One X after about 10 mins (more like 2), but like I said I'm already rooted. It looks like it supplies a good amount of phones, and with the 3 different methods for rooting, especially the third, hopefully we will see some good results!
I'm not responsible for harm that comes from this file, I have ran and tested it out to SOME EXTENT. Please be aware of this, and like I said, READ THE DOCUMENTATION.
It states it can:
Root Android 2.x
Root Android 3.x
Root Android 4.x
Rooting Phones and Tablets
Supplies S-OFF as well (80% Chance)
So, like I said, try it out and let me know if it works!
link removed ..

Why? S-off is technically for HTC only.. Yes?.. Why would we need to unlock our NAND, assuming this can, when there aren't any limitations. Also I'm not sure if the NAND is truly locked like on HTC, as this is my first non HTC phone. And as for Root it isn't that necessary is it? It I thought there was a way to root already through flashing recovery and not unlocking boot loader. Unless secure boot removes the root without unlocked bootloader.
I Downloaded it just to see what it was, and avg yelled at me. Not saying its a virus, but I also have no need for it.

From what the text file reads it's not for just HTC phones... at all..

Eset Smart Security identifies a trojan horse (http://205.196.122.163/3jnnbd3yu38g/rr4ewaa9bp6ben0/Rootalot_106A.zip = ZIP = bin/androidraldaemon.exe een variant van Win32/Injector.ADPP trojan) and cut off the connection. No need for it anyway as unlocking the bootloader and rooting is a piece of cake on this phone.
Maybe it is best OP deletes this thread imo.

I don't think that this file is somehow harmful to PC. Lots of antiviruses are too sensitive.

lol is this the HTC One X forum???

One out of 34 Virus Scanners identified it as a "injector" variant to me. I'll leave it for the users to decide, if a Mod wants it gone so be it, I don't see the harm though, I ran it myself and noticed no difference in anything.

A lot of these type of apps are flagged by Anti-Virus, there's nothing new there
What I can't understand is why you've come in a Nexus/LG device forum with a "one click root" and S-OFF solution? S-OFF has absolutely nothing to do with the Nexus 4.
The manufacturer of this phone has provided an app called "Fastboot" which allows you to unlock the bootloader and to flash the recovery partition. It's a feature. Source.Android.com walks you through, step-by-step the incredibly simple, secure process of how to do it.
The Nexus phones released us from downloading suspicious EXE's that do God-knows-what from people off of forums, yet here we still are. It's really unbelievable.

I'd be interested in more information about this "root-a-lot" exploit. I've never heard of it, and a quick search on Google doesn't pull anything up.
As for the other two (ZergRush and PSNeuter), those holes were patched a long time ago, and they haven't worked on Android since version 4.0.1.

Somebody, sniff the traffic going through the application for suspicious trojan-like connections. Nexus devices are exclusively made for developers, with everything provided to securely unlock and do whatever you want with the device.
Do not even try to install this app without understanding the risks. Topic must be removed, author - banned.

That's a point, when i realised something here is wrong

I searched root a lot, and this dude posted it in every forum essentially. It does not work, its a fake program. It was made in VB.net or C#, it claims to s-off phones like the HTC one, he didn't make it, there is no source to track it back to an author, it claims to s-off the HTC One X, when the only method is the one made by beaups and jcase. The list goes on.
Bottom line - it is a fake program and possibly a virus. Thread needs to be closed, as it has in almost every other XDA forum.
If you ran this program, I suggest scanning with anti-virus/malware scanners,
http://www.malwarebytes.org/
http://www.safer-networking.org/
http://www.superantispyware.com/
it may not be a virus, but it is a fake program, and virustotal picked up 2 possible threats. They may be false positives. But you should NEVER take a chance unless you know for 100000% it is in fact a false positive

Yeah I posted it for popular phones it SHOULD work with. If you're going to hate on me for simply SHARING something I thought would do good, and apparently does NO BAD then I do apologize and I'll remove it. 2/34 Virus scanners pick it up as what looks like to me, personally, to be false positives. If I was going to try to infect people with someone, I wouldn't use my main account, I've donated more then "fake programs" while I've been here, including a lot of damn time on sometimes what ends up to be nothing.
So if you want to warn people about to program, please do, but don't involve me like I'm doing something intentionally to harm people. I ran it myself, I tried it, my phone was already rooted. It just hung on me for awhile. I could of posted it in every forum, but I didn't.

Exactly. The dual core one x just recently got s-off, but about 8 were bricked for the effort. I dissected the zip and the files/method to s-off the dual core one x don't exist. Also, the dual core one x could only be rooted through 2 very particular exploits. One was checking for an OTA and the other was through restoring a backup app of the dialer i believe and doing some other things

Temporary nand unlock (until you reboot phone)

To make all the crybabies happy heres a disclaimer:
Doing this will not mess up your phone. Doing things after this could mess up your phone. Make nandroid backups before making changes to your phone. If you are inexperienced, don't do anything else besides editing/deleting system files on your phone. Flashing other recoveries and other such things could be risky, but removing files from system should have no adverse effects other then maybe causing a bootloop which could be fixed my restoring your system folder. I don't know why people got upset about this, but if you have any brain at all you could of figured this out yourself.

You can unlock your nand temporarily and its easy to do.
All you need is the unrevoked tool.
First understand what it is doing. It unlocks your nand to write your recovery image. Normally we cant do this. So look they made this tool to hide what its actually doing, but if you think about it you realize hey if I unplug my USB cable before it flashes recovery and reboots to recovery, I will still have an unlocked nand.
So simple steps.
1. Plug in phone to your PC
2. Run unrevoked tool
3. Let it reboot to bootloader
4. When in bootloader your screen will flash back to the white HTC Incredible screen, at this point unplug your USB and close unrevoked tool(make sure you do it before your phone completely boots and while the unrevoked program still says Waiting for reboot.)
5. Once you get past the bootanimation your phone is unlocked so you can write to /system/
To test, run the app Ad free and update the hosts file, it should say it was successful. If your phone is rebooted it is no longer unlocked.
How many times have you used this trick?
Lets say 20. Well what if on the 21st try, your phone was bricked?
I'm not saying that'll happen, but clearly you didn't write the program, so you have no idea.
I wouldn't suggest anyone try this until unrevoked release a fully tested NAND unlock. There are very few reasons to have NAND unlocked at this time.
I would do this, bit i trist pmf on this one.

There's really nothing to worry about, once your phone is rebooted after hboot and your phone is booting, the program isnt interacting with the phone notice it says waiting for reboot, so really there isnt anything to worry about.
I have done this many times. This is supposed to be an open development community and hiding stuff or making up BS about bricking phones to scare people from trying stuff is really dumb. You root your phone, you are already taking risks doing it in the first place.

Most people have already ran unrevoked several times to update the their phone's recovery.
SO HOW THE HELL is this any different. Get it through your head and realize that all you are doing is unplugging your phone before it is even going to flash recovery again. The recovery isnt flashed until you boot back into the OS. So pulling the USB before this when the program still says Waiting for Reboot will cause no issue.
What you do to your phone afterwards might cause issues, but people should make nandroid backups before they ever do anything anyways.

I hope ot works, and it makes lots of sense but most of us dont know EXACTLY what unrevoked3 does. I can honestly say, i know it unlocks nand temp, bit i cant say what hardware of software parts it targets. For all i knoe, it could short circuit my phone because the process didnt initualize correctly. No offense to you at all. I think this is a GREAT find, and is very good for the community.

Well a few weeks back someone posted some file with a list of commands that temporary unlocks the nand and basically this is what unrevoked is doing along with flashing a new recovery and rooting the phone. Basically its a made program so it can hide what its doing so you the person doing it, doesn't know what their program is doing and also to make it easier for people that are inexperienced with rooting and doing other tasks such as using adb. It basically simplifies the process for the enduser to not have to fuss with adb and any other program or entering commands, etc.

Where would we be without Unrevoked? They don't hide stuff, they protect stuff. They're protecting exploits from being closed by HTC and phones from being bricked. What it is, is that people are greedy fux and use the phrase OPEN SOURCE/DEVELOPMENT as an excuse to post their (unrevoked's) long hard work all over the forums cause "hey now my adblock works". Its really pathetic! Unrevoked thinks of the big picture, like people being able to root their phones in the future while these other people posting their work are just actually HURTING the community! Now you're gonna post some schlep way to get NAND unlock for one boot, using their tool and then talk **** about their methods. THERE WOULD BE NO DEVELOPMENT SECTION UNDER HTC DROID INCREDIBLE IF IT WASN'T FOR UNREVOKED! Here on XDA or any other site. It would be sad if Unrevoked decided not to release the REAL FULL NAND UNLOCK/UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER cause people keep posting stolen work or schlep methods of using their tools for the non-intended purposes!
Has anyone tried this yet?

Umm,
If a person such as myself can figure this out.
If a person like you and myself and others all have access to unrevoked program.
This means HTC has access to these programs as well.
HTC hires people who have college degrees and know how to program and know much more about the phones then us.
I'm sure they already have disassembled their program and know what they are doing and knew what it was doing before they did so.
I want to try other things like Metamorph and make themes.

I will assume that they could have given us NAND unlock already. But they haven't. They must have a good reason for holding out. I for one would like to be able to use my Root Explorer instead of getting out my laptop and using that frigging command line interface. I'm not a Linux person. I was raised on the Windows GUI. My previous 2 phones ran Windows Mobile. This is my first Android. I don't like the command line interface. It may be handy for techies and developers, but not for me... So gimmie NAND unlock! I'll take my chances.

+2 UnRevoked your doing a hell of a job, 90% of us understand why the nand unlock has not been released, I want nand but i'm not willing to try what the op has suggested. Perhaps if I were building themes I might use this method for a faster testing procedure. Yet I dont belive it should have been posted here seems alot of new poeple lurking might unplug at the incorrect moment and create issues that would spur a whole bunch of "help me!!" threads.
What UnRevoked is doing is no different than me or anyone else running company server patches in a sandbox for a few weeks before I pushed it to all the servers. Test test test test THEN release!
No doubt HTC has already seen and disected their code. Do you think your the first to figure out how UnRevoked managed to flash the custom recovery? Why has no one else posted this? hmm..

Okay , let's motivate some Developers to join Vivid Development.
I used to do much more with lower level firmware on POX & WM. I would like to do so again, but Android is brand new to me. That said, I learn fast & am willing to beta risky firmware as the basic concepts are similar and I learned a lot from Jockey, BuzzLightYear, Oli, Cmonex, etc.
We just need a few more good teachers.
After this past week I have decided to pass up the SkyRocket & stick with the Vivid. As such, I would like to entice some of the great devs that haven't gotten their Vivid yet to do so.
I am personally willing to make a small (for now) commitment to whomever achieves and posts a working tool our guide allowing users to do the following:
1. Unlock Bootloader - HBoot
2. Achieve a PERMANENT S-Off status
3. True Permanent root
& as a bonus the engineering HBoot would bee great.
I myself am going to be trying to catch up & contribute.
Anyone willing to add to the bounty, please post the amount you are willing and any other low level firmware unlocks or access you would like to also be a part of the bounty.
I also think that if a Dev gets one or two of the three items listed, the bounty be split accordingly, but I'm open to suggestions.

What is the timeframe on allowing the HTC VIVID to be bootloader unlocked. I am fully aware of the consequences, but since this is a device that I bought, I expect to have control of it. As of right now, AT&T gets to dictate what I have installed, and whether or not I have root access. This is ridiculous and unacceptable.

I understand that you're looking to unlock your phone's bootloader, and would like to know when this can happen. Unfortunately, our technical support department does not have any advanced information about when any phone will be unlockable through our developer website. I would recommend checking the Bootloader section of our developer website (http://htcdev.com/bootloader/), as we update this page as soon as unlock software for any phone becomes available. Thank you for taking the time to contact us.

my response (awaiting an answer)
I feel like I am being lied to. The exact same device on every other carrier is unlockable, yet the AT&T version is not. Why is that? Is AT&T the one causing the hold up? Do I need to start raising this issue there too? I don't appreciate the Vivid being locked down like this when the Raider is not. Completely unacceptable. I used to praise HTC products after owning so many, but tactics like this are really making me question my choice in manufacturer preference. I might have to return the Vivid and stick with the Galaxy S II at this point. I am wondering, between you and Motorola, who is feeding us more lies?

By the way I got the same exact response so I think that is an automated response.
I am also tending to believe AT&T is the reason we are so locked down due to the fact that HTCDev has this statement on their website now that I don't recall seeing when I first got this phone.
"HTC is committed to assisting customers in unlocking bootloaders for HTC devices. However, certain models may not be unlockable due to operator restrictions. We continue to work with our partners on this, check back often for ongoing updates about unlockable devices."
The Operator Restrictions sounds like BAD news for us to get an Unlock from them.
I wish I knew about all this coding stuff so I could help. But unfortunately I dont. So like I said in my first post I'll do my part by giving my part in the bounty.
I read an earlier post about sim unlock. The guy got a response from att saying there will be no sim unlock because the phone is exclusive to att. I call bs on that. The same device is on other carries just a different name. Excuses are like a$$h0le$. Everybody's got one and they all stink.

Take notice that none of the unlocked devices are from AT&T.
As for the SGS2, I had both since 9am on the 6th of November & as you can see in my OP, I kept the Vivid & gave the (unlocked) SkyRocket to the misses.

Another reason why NOT to use root toolkits..

Another reason to NOT use root toolkits.. http://www.symantec.com/connect/fr/blogs/malware-uses-google-go-language
Malware Uses Google Go Language
Designed in 2007 and introduced in late 2009, the Go programming language developed by Google has been gaining momentum the past three years. It is now being used to develop malware. Recently seen in the wild, Trojan.Encriyoko is a new threat associated with components which are written in Go. The Trojan attempts to encrypt various file formats on compromised computers, rendering the encrypted files unusable.
The original sample we acquired, a file named GalaxyNxRoot.exe, is actually a dropper written in .NET which disguises itself as a rooting tool to trick users into installing it.

Figure 1. GalaxyNxRoot.exe properties
Once executed, the GalaxyNxRoot.exe file drops and launches two executable files, both written in Go:
%Temp%PPSAP.exe
%Temp%adbtool.exe
The dropped PPSAP.exe file is an information-stealing Trojan. It collects system information such as current running processes, user name, MAC address, etc., and posts it to the following remote location:
The dropped adbtool.exe file downloads an encrypted file from the following remote location:
This file is decrypted as a Dynamic-link library (DLL) file and then loaded. It attempts to encrypt various file formats on the compromised computer. The targeted file formats include:
Source code files (.c, .cpp, .cs, .php, .java, .pas, .vb, .frm, .bas, .go, .asp, .aspx, .jsp, .pl, .py, .rb)
Image files (.jpg, .png, .psd)
Audio files (.wav, .wma, .amr, .awb)
Archive files (.rar, .zip, .iso, .gz, .7z)
Document files (file extensions containing the following strings: doc, xls, ppt, mdb, pdf)
Other types of files (file extensions containing the following strings: dw, dx, sh, pic, 111, win, wvw, drw, grp, rpl, mce, mcg, pag)
Figure 2. Targeted file formats
The file paths are confirmed by the Trojan in order to avoid encrypting files under certain paths, such as %Windir%, %ProgramFiles%, %UserProfile%\Local Settings, and others.
The encryption uses the Blowfish algorithm. It either reads the encryption key from D:\nepia.dud or randomly generates one. The names of all of the encrypted files are then saved to the following location:
%Temp%\vxsur.bin
Restoration of the encrypted files will be difficult, if not impossible.
Symantec detects all these files: GalaxyNxRoot.exe as Trojan.Dropper, PPSAP.exe as Infostealer, adbtool.exe as Downloader, and zdx.dll as Trojan.Encriyoko.

exactly
I used a rootkit at first, only because I didn't realize how easy it was to get a custom recovery onto my device. Now that I know how easy it is... no more rootkit. Ever.
Thanks to pointing out.
Was new to the Nexus devices and unfortunately used a rookit as well (now I know more how to use fast boot etc).
No more rootkits for sure
But how exactly can I check if the rootkit is infected?

You can probably upload it to VirusTotal and give it a check over if you want to be absolutely sure
I'm not sure I understand the point the OP is trying to make. Don't use a root toolkit because it could really be malware in disguise?
Unfortunately that's silly advise, because you can make that argument for pretty much any software. I work in IT support and almost daily I see computers infected with viruses because the user click on what they thought was a legitimate anti-virus warning. However I'm not warning people to never install anti-virus software in case it is really malware.
Root toolkits are just like any piece of software you download from the Internet. It's all about getting it from a trusted and reputable source. Anything could be infected with malware if you get it from the wrong place.

Actually, the point he is trying to make is this is a nexus device. It's DESIGNED for developers. You can easily root it with a few simple commands. The real service Simms is trying to provide is to get people to understand how adb works, how fastboot works. This does two things. 1. Gets users to understand the device a bit more, which benefits everyone, and 2. The more comfortable the users are with adb and fastboot, and the more they know about the basic android os, the better feedback they can provide to the developers. (For most of us, logs and last kernel messages are very easy. Just remember it's not the case for everyone.)
But, people like to do it the lazy way. Simms is just saying it's dangerous. While a necessary evil on some devices, a nexus isn't one of them. (Not to say what you said isn't true. I work in IT myself, I know firsthand how easy it is to get viruses. But on a device where all you have to do is reboot into booloader, type fastboot oem unlock, and bamn no hacking needed, why take the chance?)

I don't personally know Mark Skippen (aka mskip), the developer of Nexus 7 Toolkit and also the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit (and probably other things). But I've used his root toolkits for quite a while, as have many, many other people. Zero complaints.
When I use his toolkit to root, I don't feel like I'm taking a chance of being infected with malware.
I can root myself, I have. But I use the toolkit because it is a nice time saver.
I learned basics of how to use SDK, fastboot, adb on day 1 of my maguro watching YouTube vids a while back.. :what:So easy and at least you learn something and not use someone's work around, makes sense to me... If I'm gonna do something I might as well learn it the right way, try and gain a lil knowledge into this deal.. On other devices I use Odin.. No need for toolkits really, Odin and Fastboot are simple enough. I'm a slow learner to this stuff & I have enough down to where I can do what I must when necessary.. :sly:
Rasbeanjelly/Trinity 111
I just used a Root ToolKit, it's pretty nice, downloads things you need (e.g. stock images) without having to search the web for it. I had to return my device to stock. I do know all the fastboot and ADB commands but I prefer these because I don't have to sit on the PC typing each command for bootloader, recovery, system ,etc.. I can just press enter, grab a bite or something and come back, finished. the automated driver installer is also very nice because I've had issues with my PC not being able to find the correct adb/fastboot driver.
I have no problem with them, but users shouldn't just randomly download from the internet, It's just common sense, some users don't have any. I understand if you want to look like a 1337 pr0 h4xx0r, typing each command into a terminal though. It's just something we grow out of-
This stuff always fails virus checks. Big whoop. Make sure you get it from the main sources and live happy.

I've always hated the idea of one click root, I always said if you're going to do this you should have at least a basic working knowledge of what's going on. Because of these we get a lot of people on the forums who are completely clueless messing with the inner workings of their devices. If you do something to your phone and have no idea how to undo it you get what you deserve.

Android Toolkit

I am really happy to share my new project with you and contribute to this great forum. I have been developing this project for a half of a year and I have finished about one month ago. I am proud to announce you that I have finished Android Toolkit.
Android Toolkit is an app for Android device managment and modification. It has a built in ADB Tools, Fastboot Tools and custom recovery flasher and much more. There is also support for Remote ADB control. There is also Android ADB Backup/Restore tool and Root Exploit (only installs Superuser.apk in system). Currently, there are only 3 devices for recovery flashing and TWRP flashing is still in development.
A whole project was developed using C# and WPF technology. You need to have installed .Net Framework 4.5 to run this app.

Nice job Slovencek
great, just another root toolkit to help newbs not learn a single thing about their devices.
Yeah...good job!
But I agree....before using toolkits, new guys should learn everything manually. Its quite easy when you know what you're doing. And you have more control over everything.
I will test it buddy, u did a great job. Keep it up

With all the toolkits for my history of phones i never just used the kit and not bother to actually understand anything.. im sure a lot of people are the same way. save time? it takes seconds to unlock your bootloader and flash a custom recovery via fastboot(the right way) and not via a toolkit.

credit for what? making something that there are a bunch of available already? or credit for making it easier to be clueless about what you are actually doing to your device? the only root toolkit that ill ever give credit to is the toolkit that goes through all the steps, and teaches you what you are actually doing to your device per step, and how to fix it if you mess something up. but it doesnt exist yet.
anyways, this isnt really about the op, its about root toolkits in general. kudos to the op for being able to make it nevertheless.

Question Custom ROM activity

Hey all,
Why is there not much custom ROM activity for the s21? Used to have an s10+ and that had half dozen or more choices.
I would attempt myself if I had time but just curious.
Cheers
There is a few for exynos model
From my observations it is related to device price. More it costs, less users want to play with it.
Personally for me this is my first not rooted device in my life. Just because of one UI. It has just right amount of customization to keep me satisfied.
Also Samsung provides pretty ok software support.
To conclude - there are no good reasons to spend time on development. Only thing that comes to my mind - if you want less bloat, tracking, etc. But in such case imho Samsung is a bad choice and you should go with something else.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, there are various ways to get rid of some of the bloat anyway if you're too inclined to get rid of them.
Yeah I'd say mostly it's due to how highly customisable the Android OS and One UI is these days. I unlocked my bootloader and rooted my S21 Ultra but I ended up locking the bootloader and going back to stock again.
Major issues
- knox - you can't revert to lock state so no matter what happe your pricey toy is useless and not repearable
- lack of drivers - camera etc.

i re-locked my bootloader, thats all that matters and these days samsung have still repaired phones that have been rooted and had their bootloaders locked again.
Thanks everyone for your feedback.
I admit its a pricey phone which is why I've been put off doing it, I've nearly always installed custom roms mainly for root access and customisation options.
I manage stock unrooted to block ads using AdGuard which does a really good job, and use nova launcher for customisation which sort of keeps me happy, along with working Google pay and bank app and the s21 ultra is pretty customisable.
Root used to be good to backup using titanium.

Would you like to add anything to above sir? Maybe I have "very little knowledge" but at least now we can verify it quickly

I can bet it was the case. We're talking about humans. I work with several repair companies, to provide warranty for the products i sell from different brands. And you know, people are always being hired everywhere. There's always that new guy that messed up and didn't follow the protocol.
I guess you need to be lucky to get your phone in the hands of the new guy

This is something that I can agree in 100%, in UK samsung does not fix their phones, they have few comapnies who does that for them, and those companies check knox status, why? Becuase they will not get money back from Samsungfor fixing a phone that was nod under warranty - simple.
If someone mad a mistake, forgot etc to check it I get it but spreading false info is not good for anyone.

Well at the risk of exposing your lack of proficiency with the English language, I will add that being covered under warranty is totally different to having the device repaired by Samsung. The word warranty was never used by myself, and in fact was never used by you either.

Oh so now my English is not ok, nice. I didn't mentioned about warranty as it was obvious, at least for others... You can always pay for repair, even if you intentionaly hit it with a hammer and this is common knowledge. You didn't say that you paid for repair either.
