[REQ] Solution for voip upside down front camera - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
Can any of you good devs provide a fix for the upside down front camera on voip apps? In the past it was working correctly for me but at some point it turned upside down (i think it was a kernel change OR a skype update). Since then i have trid the following WITHOUT any luck:
-Horizontal calibration
-Enabling screen orientation and trying in landscape mode
-an older version of Skype app
-Different Kernels (3.0 and 3.4)
-Different ROMs (CM9, CM10 and CM10.1) format everything from system to sd-ext in between
front camera is still upside down! i am at a loss here...please help!
ps : In the camera app front cam works just fine

please try reading before posting a reply, i 've already stated on my op that i have tried all these things without any success. I have also searched the whole xda forums and tried numerous other ideas to no avail.
this thread is a request for a fix that doesn't exist not a question, however if you guys feel it's spam you can always report it and let a mod decide.
regardless thank you for your comment

OK then try this: stock ROM. P.s. never had upside down problems with front camera. What ROM are you using?
"Many people think they can outsmart me... maybe. Maybe... i have yet to meet one that can outsmart a bullet."

OK lets geh things clear.
We need Rom, Kernel and Version of those. Then we can tell you how to fix it.

Exact same thing here, all CM10 ROMs are having this issue.
I have it in GoogleTalk, so a pretty built in application.
Tried these steps, still upside down front camera. Calibration does not show any indication, just sais lay on plane surface, push button. Shouldnt there appear a orientation point in the cross?
I only know that problem from older Windows programs, with the webcam.
There are two ways to fix this problem.
1. Fix it in system
2. Fix it in the app
First of all, the camera needs to run at all, so guess there is many work done, that the camera is running at all.
Then, it may depend on the devs way to fix things, normaly it should be fixed EVERYTHING in system, because fixing every app that might be installed, no way
So there must be some reason, that the devs choosed to let the upside down in VoIP apps be there, because the rest works, in camera apps orientation is fine. Maybe they just dont got the right line, to just change VoIP apps orientation.
So, maybe this will last for a long time though, till Samsung releases new drivers for 4.1.x haha Till then, devs must use what they got, guess they have the best working things found already...

thank you XeLLaR. i doubt it's ROM related though. As stated in OP since i first noticed this i have tried arco's CM9, ivedor's CM10(beta 1-2-3) and xistance's CM10.1. I have also tried with stock kernel, phenomkernel, nexus kernel both 3.0 and 3.4 branches. I did a full wipe between installations
the problem still exists!!!

Should possibly be fixed in my new build. I'll try later today and report. Since we all pretty much build from similar sources it is a ROM problem. To be exact for all builders, frameworks/av

No it doesn't.
P.S There are numerous threads about this , below is a link to the classic nerd thread and in the opening post it states exactly what does and doesn't work. It is worth reading.

AFAIK, the camera does not work yet, in any android configuration. If you want to use it, for Skype, or something similar, switch over to webos. That's the beauty of the touchpad, dual boot......
Whats the latest on the camera fix??
:fingers-crossed: This sounds like a broken record ... (I said record) Is the camera still being worked on for ICS Android?? or has all support gone to CM10 Jellybean etc.. .. ... if so can someone post the best link to keep up with the latest camera status .. .. Thanks Dudes.. :cyclops:

[Q] [i9001 only] which cm10?

To be honest, i hate these questions.
The reason:
You cant decide due to opniuns from others. You should test it for yourself..
Try for yourself..

I like most the JB ROM by Ivendor. It has not that many bugs and works great. Front camera is not upside down - only face unlock is
Try yourself and find the ROM that works best for you.
Thanks! Normally i try everything myself. But i dont have much time these days. Especially now everything goes so fast. I will try ivendor's rom

Night mode (ISO) on 4.1.2 ROM?

I'm using the gallery2.apk from 4.2.2 on my SlimBean 4.1.2 ROM and seems to work fine. I'm missing the night ISO feature though, which really helped in low light. Was wondering if I'm missing some libs or something? Or is this feature out of reach for 4.1.2 ROMs?
Cheers!

What? How am I bothering the devs? It's a simple question. I'm not the only one who would like to use this feature without having to use the buggy and slow 4.2 builds.
Logically if the camera/gallery apk works so should simple features like night shot ISO. I've only ported the apk maybe there are other files attached to this app? I know I'm not the only one who would like this.
Cheers!

You mean the ISO settings on the stock roms?
EDIT: I read your thread properly ._.
Hmmm... Maybe it is connected to the camera libs. Although I think its a 4.1.2 feature only (I've never seen a night ISO on the 4.2.2 roms I've tried)

Lol not stock. I've taken gallery apk from slimbean 4.2 and put on slimbean 4.1.2. The feature I'm on about is on the settings panel within the camera screen. It's the ISO option which is there on most jb 4.2 builds.
When using the camera with 4.2 it give you a ISO mode "night" which works great for low light situations.
When I use the same gallery apk on a 4.1.2 build the ISO mode is still there with various levels but "night" mode is no longer.
I like 4.1.2 over 4.2 for its speed and having the full screen camera is very nice. Everything works using this camera, just missing features like night ISO and photo effects which I think was gallery4.apk, though I never use this so left it out my system.

CM10 Camera insert? Is it possible?

Hey xda dev team I lately installed CM10.1 for my phone as it is unofficial obviously there will be bugs, but now...
It was said the camera is working perfectly however yes taking shots even panorama is indeed working ....
but the most important part... video taking isn't working...
Solutions.....
I tries installing the stock ROMs camera but since it is read and write in the attributes it can not be installed in the system.
So is there an app than I can use for video recording? And if the stock camera is better how do I change the attributes to read only cause all system apps are read only...
Any Help would be of great sentimental value to me

You can't use stock apps on non touch wiz firmwares like cm or any aosp based ROM, camcorder issue is related to the system itself so its useless to switch cameras, the only cameras that work now are the ones that uses software encoding like that Chinese app posted in the apps and themes section

If you like to record at HD and good quality then cm is not for you at this stage, I wouldn't recommend it but yes, it's working:

It is against the forum rules, that you agreed upon when signing up for this website, to bump before 24 hours of no activity.
See above, you can bump posts after 24 hours, understand you are experiencing issues, try google to see if other folks outside of XDA have had similar issues.
I did google first thats why I ask is it a hard ware issue
