RAM Usage - my last phone with 1gb? - RAZR i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
i want to discuss the RAM usage by apps especially on our RAZR i.
In the past few weeks i realized my phone was getting slower and slower, it's not nearly as fluent as it was once. It always kills apps when it shouldn't, WhatsApp doesn't run reliable etc (sometimes i get notifications MUCH later than i should and only after opening the app). Well, i have ~70mb RAM left.
Now comes the funny part, i don't think i use that much unnecessary apps. I don't play games, delete not used apps regulary. Easy Uninstaller shows me 96 apps (and yes, this is an unnecessary app, but it makes cleaning the phone much more comfortable - so it is allowed to stay)
So what kills the RAM?
Facebook Service - can't kill - 50mb
SRT AppGuard - to kill Facebooks GPS and Location sniffers - 25mb
Dropbox - Camera Upload - 34mb
Then there is some other stuff like WhatsApp, PowerAmp Service, Maps, which consume ~80mb in total.
Now here comes a special list:
Light Flow - 45mb
Nova Launcher - 60mb
3G Watchdog - 30mb
Lux - finally lowered auto brightness - 24mb
Smart WiFi Toggler - 27mb
SwiftKey - 63mb
Whats on that list? Basically everything i NEED to make the phone run the way it's intended to. This consumes 240mb of RAM. And those are all features that should be implemented into Android (WiFi Toggler, Lux, Light Flow) or run because the original is so bad that i can't stand it (Nova Launcher instead of stock alone because of homescreen alignment, 3G Watchdog [no prediction / clarity in stock monitor], SwiftKey).
Then there's the Moto stuff you can't deactivate:
SmartActions - 40mb
MotoCare (?) - 42mb
This is basically my RAM usage i can't get rid off. I am constantly suffering Android quitting apps when it shouldn't, even when i only switch between Opera / Chrome and Adobe Reader and stay in one app a bit too long it quits the other one. Even my old Desire HD - which had 768mb of RAM - did not do that, admittedly with a great AOKP rom.
How do you handle your RAM usage? Do you have remotely as much problems as i have to handle 1gb? I don't know what i could do to reduce my RAM usage. My new tablet, a Note 10.1, makes it feel even worse as everything runs so perfect, you just know that's the best that 4.1 will ever be. Right now, i have 700mb left. I never care about RAM usage and the best thing is, when i open an app i sometimes find out it was still running in the background, it instantly appears on the screen. The Moto needs a lot longer for it now and you feel it's an overloaded phone..

i got the same problems lol
thats why im looking for an app that kills apps that i no longer need in the moment and just restarts them when i need them (something like IOS does)
anyway some apps that you are using does not use as much ram in my phone

Use Greenify to hibernate Apps if they are not in use. Works great here

I guess it would be the perfect solution.. If I was rooted. I don't want to do it yet, I have to send it in because of the auxiliary port not working properly and I am only waiting for any friend to buy a new android so I could borrow his while the RAZR I is being repaired. But finally, thank you, I found a proper reason why I should root my phone. Maybe I'll try the app on my rooted note 10.1 even though I will never need it just to find out how it likes my apps.

I use an app called Fast Reboot Pro. It restarts all running apps to release memory. Doing this once a day keeps my phone slick. I recommend you try it.

If you don't use SmartActions then you can disable it in the app menu. Should help a tiny bit!

I just installed Fast Reboot and it really does make a lot of difference. In one click of a button everything was like I just turned the phone off and on but it all happened within a second so much more conveniant. And you don't have to be rooted for it to work either.
I'll try this for a few days then buy the pro version.

Oops. I've accumulated 150 apps (need some editing), and run smartactions on my Razr i with, to my surpise, no noticeable slow-down or difficulty swopping between apps on my phone. I'm rooted, so Android firewall disables most of then when running on mobile data (with background data also disabled) but on wi-fi at home and work they all run - 845 RAM being used at the mo - 32 processes running. WiFi off at night though, one running app puts flight mode on. I usually do a manual reboot once a week, just to give the phone a break.

You should instal Pi-Lama 0.3 Most of the Motorola's bloatware are gone together with Blur stuff.

Mh .. I will send it in in maybe 3 weeks. When i get it back fixed, i think i'll do it. What i don't get about most phones on the market is that their hardware is really great but the customized Android is just awful. I don't get it.. Admittedly the Motorola UI is not that bad, but i prefer the stock android look. I find that only Samsung does a good job in customizing their software. Every other UI is unpractical, drains the battery or looks bad (my opinion) ..

I dont know how your Note tablet performs, but my GS3 was awful price to performance, it is neck and neck with the moto razr i and the moto is faster in single-running apps environment because of its very high clock and bandwith of the cpu. However, flipboard used 89mb and touchwiz thing used more than 120mb in total so, no cheers there.
No android customization is good enough. Most of them are pretty but not good enough. What's more, the GS3 died after 3 days, and no engenieer could explain it (sorry for bad level of english), it just died...
Regarding RAM issue, moto services, all in all, use 101mb as i calculated and non-stoppable servicies such as maps location, fb location, whats app service and so on takes up as much as 220mb (a bit less, but just rounding out numbers)
My entire RAM usage is of about +-600mb of 970mb. However, i use a VPN and intra-network app for my work and that eats up another 150mb adding swype and some other things such as ftp servers i get up to 800mb used and it doesnt lag but IT DOES close apps by itself. The GS3 did it too, but its multicore could open them a bit faster when more than 2 or 3 were already running.

Stock JB...around 500-600MB free...

I'm using latest Omar Rom and greenify, about 60 apps installed. When I kill all apps I've got:
Available: 475 MB
Inactive: 175 MB
Which gives me 650MB free RAM (avail and inactive is in fact free). Unfortunately it does't mean anything. Phone is'n as fast as I would like it to be, android is amazingly ****ty optimized. My previous phone (btw Defy) have had 512MB RAM and single core CPU - and with android GB (CM7) speed was comparable - apps were smaller and less "memory hungry" than on ICS or JB.
I'm too thinking about 2GB of RAM in phone (maybe XIAOMI MI2).

I'm really curious, What exactly do you need your phone do faster than it do right now?
I never see any Android Phone run faster than my razr i, the only problem is compatibility with some apps, and lack of development.
( i had a defy too, and you really can't compare defy with razr i)

Heh, I've overclocked defy to 1300MHz, with CM and minimalist theme it worked really great
I want an android phone with constant 60FPS and instant startup of apps. Now on RazrI it takes couple seconds for Chrome to became operational - where it should be instantaneous, switching between big apps also lags from time to time.

who said razr i wont run at 60fps?
to me, chrome is fast enough but stock browser is even faster.. (new opera mobile beta is using webkit too and seems good)
funny thing that you mentioned browsers, cause razr i is by far the best smartphone in any javascript benchmark
i agree that is not optimal for games, but is a great smartphone.

Hi, so I bought mina XT890 two months ago, and currently I habe 98MB of free RAM. I have disabled a lot of Motorola apps, and I think that 98mb of free RAM is too short for a 1GB phone... I guess there is something wrong, some stuff being used underground and I can't see it. My GF has a S3 Mini, and the RAM usage is much better. She has more apps and games than I do...

Do not observe how much free RAM do you have. Just compare how this phone works. It's really Fast and reacts immediatelly even you see only 98MB free RAM. It's much more better than S3 mini.

Milestone ram management is horrible?

Im on got 2.2 but this happened to me with 2.1 too, is really annoying, multitasking is not executed well, my programs keep closing :/ 70-80% of the times i press the home button while im playing music+using the browser+using trillian or behive launcher pro loads the whole homescreen and widgets :/ , if switch to the browser, it reloads the websites or loads the homepage , am i doing something wrong?
i tought 256 mb wasnt that horrible for a smartphone
i blame android.
i was ok with my phone til the last week. i got an ipod touch 4g. 256mb only on that one and people complained it was a neutered iphone but damn it smokes my milestone in day to day tasks. granted it can't make a call, but im pretty pissed that android still lacks the optimization we need.

Same thing happened to me on 2.2 but on 2.1 it runs very smooth... Try "Keep in memory" setting from Launcher Pro --> Preferences
is there any method to optimize the ram usage of android. i thought that a milestone is better then iphone, i still think it is,but if the android system dont get better, iphone will smoke all of us in the pipe.
the first thing i noticed when i holded my milestone in my hands was, damn is it fast and brilliant, better then the iphone, the same day i started modding and overclocking and things like that. i gave him a little too much vsel, .... and since then i think it has gotten slower :/ , maybe some of you had the same expirience
Guys, please consider the fact, that google has to optimize their OS for different smartphone setups from different manufacturers ... the iOS featured in the iPhone and iPod Touch has been completely optimized on their hardware, since iOS isnt featured outside the apple family of handhelds. Because of this, the optimisation and integration is WAY more comfortable, Google has a ****load of work to do to consider the many different phones besides their nexus one.
give it time guys. MIUI handles the memory management already pretty good, runs way more responsive that stock android.
It's problem of the apps and widget you are using, download a app call system pannel, you will find out many apps and widget take up so many ram.
and 2.2 got leak have a problem which make the launcher redraw so often.
for launcher pro, there is an options to keep it in memory.

i just checked that option, it says its experimental tough , theres a couple of exta ptins:
memory usage preset: high,mediu,moderate,low...
homescreen cache type: normal compressed,light
Should i mess with this setings too?

piss poor excuse. there's not much rocket science going into optimizing a homescreen smoothness.
The A4 chip the iPhone 4 uses is more similar to a Samsung Hummingbird.
The OMAP chip the 3GS uses is similar to the one we have in the Droid/Milestone.
The old ARM11 chips in the 2G/3G/iPod Touch 1g/2G/3g 8gb is different too.
The fact is Apple has accounted for 3 types of CPUs and while they are all ARM architecture, it's similar to the fact we have Qualcomm, TI, and Samsung CPUs floating around. Even Google's own Nexus One is piss poor smooth on the homescreen.
Granted here at XDA we've already ROMed the hell out of our phones, but the fact that I'm still ashamed when I whip out my Milestone just to show my friends Facebook, and they ALWAYS comment on how choppy it is despite my 1100mhz overclock or whatever. I'll even reboot just before hanging out with them just in case I need to do some stuff. Android is just too freaking slow.
i am using cronos froyo 1.5 and i must say i am suprised, it is a good rom, fast and stabil, and trust me i testes many roms, maybe all?
so is there a way of modifing a rom (maybe cronos) to get rid of all the services that are not needed for a normal user? maybe it would be more ram available this way... aint it?
I think that 256 mb ram are enough. Try eclair mod v0.3b. It is very fast and i get about 110mb free ram. I use Advanced task killer and Estrong task manager. I have them both on my homescreen and when i tap them both I get 110mb ram free.
ram
the task killer is an option i dont want to use, because android should manage that him self, but maybe tere are some services that are not needed, so we can delete them, and make a slim rom. do someone know what services are not needed, and how we can wipe them?

On milestone? Don't believe it. Pleas post some screenshots so I can be amazed
As Milestone has really terrible hardware spec (cpu, ram, flash) I am still hoping someone would start to build ultra-lite version of the android without any non-essential services running, applications on flash, launchers, wallpapers, etc.
Regarding the multitasking - yes when I try to open second app I am holding my breath whether the first one will get killed or will survive
IMO it was depend on which rom u were used.
Try live home for launcher its pretty fast and handles multitasking
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
Do you use any weather and clock widgets-if yes there is a option called refresh when home is pressed you disable it and your screen would come alive much faster.
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
I have never be success on milestone, always restarting
I would say it probably more have to do with Motorola for not taking the effort to optimize Android's software for the Milestone, my friend X8 is smoother than mine despite having only 168MB(!) of RAM and he used live wallpapers too. 2.2 also for some reason seems to be very sluggish as compared to 2.1/2.3
Anyway I also believe that because of our higher resolution screen (854 x 480), more RAM is needed as more resource is needed for greater resolution and phones usually reserved more RAM (slightly) for connectivity purposes (cell tower) which lead to a "shortage" of free RAM on our milestone.
Though no doubt, I would say iOS have a slightly better memory management than Android but Android is not that bad given that the Nexus One prior to 2.2/2.3, the amount of RAM available for them is 40mb less than Milestone due to a bug but it still flies. Shows alot that effort to optimize by the OEMs matter more rather than Android itself.

[Q] Extremely Low Ram & Camera Force Closes - CM7

I have a Droid A855 rooted, CM7 installed. I have the latest build. I have two issues, one is that the free RAM is ridiculously low with like 5 apps open it has about 20MB of RAM free. This is unacceptable because my Huawei Ascend has 90 free with many apps open, and the Droid has twice the ram of the Ascend. Is there any suggestions about this? Also the camera was working great and then it started freezing, and now the camera force closes when I press the button to take a picture. If I go to the camcorder it works fine, but otherwise I get force close. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Personally CM7 has just never ran smooth. No matter what I have tried. Gingerbread was never really meant for the Droid so most roms have built in stuff to help with memory that I do not believe CM7 ever had added. and the camera is outright terrible lately, I have it force closing on all my roms. I really don't know how to help all I can really try suggesting is trying out other roms

I think you guys are missing a crucial part about how Android is built. Free RAM is wasted RAM.
Newer versions of Android, especially Gingerbread, are better at RAM management than older versions. Granted, there's an ever-growing need for more RAM for basic system functions, but Android is designed to free up RAM on-demand for the things that need it.
Just because RAM isn't free doesn't mean that the system is going to slow down. Android will put the stuff that's not being used anymore into a swap file so that the stuff you need to work with can do what it wants.

What? I dont understand
I agree with you and I will like to agree with you but it just won't work. This is like Windows Vista, they use all the memory, but it is very slow when you try to open application which you don't use a lot.. and it also causes a lot of slowness when you try to use more ram for soemthing else, like modify a huge image in photoshop and then switch to some other application.
Get back to the real story, my phone get memory lower than 50 free MB easily. and when I open Google current in this stage, it just hangs for 5 minutes. then I get a message "force closed". However, if I have 100 free MB, then I am safe, I don't see that popup message. Moreover, when I go to 40 free MB, I even have hard time to open skype and pick up the phone, it just rings, but the screen just hangs! when the screen refresh back, people get into mailbox already....
anyway, I found a software to temp solve this problem ZDbox. I set up when the screen hangs, "kill all apps in the memory" it is not best, but at least I can pick calls, I can run application without getting "force closed" message all the time.. because I need to reboot few times a day to solve ram issue.
perhaps, you can do a test yourself.
- install CM7
- install facebook app and run
- install google reader and run
- install google current and run
- install skype and run
- install gmail and run
- install google voice serach and run
- install google book and run
- install whatsapp and run
- install naver LINE and run
- install twitter and run
- install zdbox and run
- install lookout and run
- install go laucher
well after all this, your phone show be in less than free 50MB.. if so, try to run other application and you will see the problem.. screen hangs.....very slow response....not able to pick calls...

Yeah but even though "free ram is wasted ram" it still causes instability and force closes along with just pure out lag. My D1 lags when it has only 30mb of ram or less anything over 50 and it flies along. It lags to the point were even simple tasks are slow when they should not be.

Droid has 256MB RAM. (Actually, there's only 226MB RAM available to kernel.)
If the Droid has twice the RAM of your Huawei Ascend, then your Ascend has only 128MB RAM.
If it has 90MB RAM free with many apps open, then it means that all the system services and all the "many" open apps has to fit to 38MB of RAM.
That's hard to believe.
And btw., you can't compare RAM consumption on devices with different display resolution. Droid drives 854x480 pixels and uses hdpi bitmaps. I guess that the Ascend has lower resolution. The RAM demand is much higher on WVGA hdpi devices compared to low resolution HVGA/QVGA mdpi/ldpi devices.
When I my HTC Desire Z, I was in love, awe of the beautiful interface HTC Sense and the many adjustments I needed to make experience to a higher level, the Android. However, as I went about installing my wealth of applications, games and widgets (more than a hundred, are addictive), Sense started getting so instead of improving my experience. The initial screen would start every few hours re; each faucet took longer to record; Screen rotation when the keyboard sliding open continue for centuries; and each phone looked like he was struggling to get by.

Samsung Galaxy S mysterious ram usage cm10.1

Hey there, this problem might have been discussed before but I wasn't able to find it, so the problem is with ram usasage, I once went to the apps in settings and on the running apps I always see 250mb+ ram used by something, then I killed all the apps, but that just made a dliference of 50mb ram, It's real anoying because when I want to switch between apps it's slow and when I turn a browser back on after using aother app the page realoads which I guess wpuldn't happen with 300 mb ram, does anyone know the reason for this, I am currently running cm10.1.
Thanks!

Free RAM is useless. It just sits there sucking up power and being available in case you need it. It's pretty much a waste to have 300 MB of RAM and then only use 100 MB. Instead you should try to keep your RAM full at all times with the things you are likely to need in the near future. For example, if your phone is currently only using 20% of your RAM but already caches the browser in case you'll use it soon it will be faster to load the browser. If you decide to use the music player on the other hand the cached browser can be overwritten with the music player without requiring any additional time, so no harm is done.
Modern systems don't have "free" and "in use" RAM, they have "free" (wasted space), "in use" and "cached". You shouldn't look at the amount of free RAM but rather the amount of actually used RAM is a better indicator.
The reason you only gain 50 MB when you kill all apps is because only 50 MB will be actually in use by apps and all remaining unused space is used for caching things. If your phone is slow, this is not the cause of it. You may just have a slow phone or the ROM might be slow for some (other) reason.

You may just have a slow phone or the ROM might be slow for some (other) reason.

yeah only 50mb is used to keep the apps running, but it probably takes up a whole lot more when using the apps, and this is a problem for me that it is slow to change between apps, and when I do change between the for example if I wanna text some one back while using a browser, once i turn the browser back on it restarts the page, and that didn't happen in my zte blade, unless I had some more apps running.
I wanna know what is using those 250+mb of ram!

see exchange service, any svn services n keep track of system usage. normally 100mb+ will be taken for ui, framework...etc.
but. eventhough u keep track of it,then slaughter it, it will come back to life n running, so i wouldnt recommend slaughtering system usage.
switching between app normally slow for full or stock rom. try find some debloated rom. it will be suitable for u if u wanna more free ram rather than liquidity.

I also observed some sluggishness after some time of usage. Sometimes the phone got totally unresponsive, not catching any push events (from buttons or screen), so that I couldn't even wake it after the screen timeout. I had to wait even few minutes before it was alive again.
Google Chrome was the most ram-eating app as far as I know.
Sometimes the best method is just restart your phone from time to time or even make a wipe - this is normal for all low-end android phones as they get sluggish after some time.
Long story short: I ended up buying a new phone with 2gb of RAM

well...good luck on ur new fone
wish i had extra money to buy one......
but, bigger ram doesnt solve anything as far as i know.stock gapps n app from firmware will be da 'pacman' here. unless ur obtain 'god mode' for ur fone.

I have the same issue
I'm using CM10.1 RC5, kernel 3.0.76-gc0a8d45 [email protected] #1
I have same symptoms pawci0 and ltkipras mentioned.
But I don't want to buy a new phone...
The lack of memory is noticeable when I run Waze or maps . It just opens for a couple of minutes and closes by itself or rather hangs the entire device.
What should I do? Go for the CM10.1 stable, try a different ROM (i.e. Slim). Change kernels?
nope, waze doesnt use that much ram, try to fix permission first n clear cache in recovery
n try to use other kernel, mine ok with multitask, rather heavy with online games n hearing mp3 n receiving whatsapp, line n we chat at da same time
n try greenify app to control app thats always running.

Just try a other rom or kernel you would be amazed how lets say a change of kernel can speed things up. The point is everyone uses their phone differently different apps and things so you need to find the rom that suits you mostly.

6Gb RAM utilization option

Just a thought about memory utilization....
So Oneplus 3 is the first mainstream (not the first overall) android phone with 6Gb. Apparently all that memory is not currently utilized. Most likely it is not fully utilized even on 4Gb phones. There is really no point in wasted RAM. Having a lot of open apps in memory is truly great and could be the best use for it, but it also can present some issues. Background apps on android are not always suspended in the best way and can waste resources (CPU, battery). Of course if app and system are optimized correctly this shouldn't happen, but unfortunately it is not always the case. While google optimizes the system with dose features etc, I'm wondering about a simpler option until the better one is built into the system.
RAM is 10 times faster than storage, so why not use a portion of it as a RAMDISK, like in old days (MS DOS times). For those who don't know, RAMDISK is a portion of RAM that is used as a temporary storage (like flash memory), that will be 10 times faster than permanent flash storage.
Basically out of 6Gb RAM that phone has (Oneplus 3), 3Gb would be used as regular RAM and 3GB would be used as a RAMDISK. RAMDISK completely looses all the data after reboot, but the good thing is that phones don't really need to be restarted often. So RAMDISK would be almost permanent. Lets say you have 100 apps on your phone. Out of those you use 30 all the time. It is a bit inconvenient when app that you use often (for example Facebook) is kicked out from the memory and has to reload from flash storage (slow). Instead you could have those 30 apps to be loaded/copied/synchronized to the RAMDISK during initial boot. If app is kicked from regular RAM and needs to be restarted/resumed it would load 10 times faster from the RAMDISK. During regular intervals and before reboot data/cache from RAMDISK can be permanently saved (synchronized) back to the flash storage. If you have your favorite app that keeps misbehaving in the background (uses too much CPU, doesn't let phone to go into deep sleep and kills battery) you can just have it removed from background processes (swipe away, greenify, kill it etc), but then it will be almost instantly reloaded from RAMDISK when you need it later. So in the end you would have all your favorite apps loading super fast, even if it is not currently running in the background. You would sacrifice some RAM for faster app loading, possibly also minimizing battery loss due to some bad apps.
My knowledge of Android system is very limited and I might be very mistaken regarding this option, it's implementation and benefits. I would love to hear what people with better knowledge can say on this topic.

It is not about fixing the number of apps that can be held in memory, it is about different use for the RAM. When you have 40 apps in the background some of them can kill the battery. That is probably why Oneplus limited the number of apps. RAMDISK could potentiality minimize the battery wasted by background apps (if they are not suspended correctly) by removing them from active memory and still allow fast restart when needed.

Android can not address any RAMDISK, it just makes no sense here.

Look at the amount of free RAM in average use. There will be plenty that is unused. Keeping lots of apps cached is the best use for the free ram, but in some cases those background apps need to be removed from the active memory to prevent app from keeping device awake (and killing battery as a result). For example RAMDISK would allow to greenify all the bad written apps, stopping them from draining the battery, but then reloading them back to the active RAM almost instantly (much faster than from flash storage), when user wants to access the app again.
This situation (RAM "waste") can sure change with advances in android system itself, but as of now I just think RAMDISK is not a bad option for new devices with a lot of RAM onboard. Apparently we will see android phones with 8Gb Ram pretty soon.

There is no such thing currently, but it doesn't mean that it cannot be created (at least in my understanding) and implemented via kernel or just an application (background service).
Here is info from WiKi

Here are the examples of programs/apps for PC:

Plenty more can be found online.
I remember we used to do that on the HD2 - it was pretty cool!

The impression i got that was not all that ram was not available and was reserved for the system. To the point one questioned that 6GB was available, felt like less.
How much RAM does the OP3 mention as free after a restart ?

It shows about 4.5Gb free. I'm yet to fully test OP3 and see my average memory usage, but I doubt that I will have less than 2Gb free

4.5GB free implies its working as stated.
You're saying in use that memory gets reserved and drops, that is more than it should.
Do u have any ideas how can that be done?

As far as I know, there is no RAMDISK app for android at this time. I would love try it out myself. Unfortunately I don't have much coding experience to create this app (or kernel).
On a side note, after more time with a 6Gb phone I can see that this RAM can get utilized quite a bit. After editing the build.prop to magical number 42 and running bunch of apps (regular operation, nothing really extreme), the free cache reported by OS (developer options) is 1.2GB - 1.3GB. at the same time in RUNNING SERVICES it shows 2.8GB free. SYSTEM got bloated to 2.0GB
From what I can see, the apps that I use didn't misbehave so far and even with such heavy load on RAM, my battery didn't take a hit. As a matter of fact I'm very surprised by battery performance so far, but I'm only 1/4 way through.
That being said, I would still love to create 2Gb RAMDISK from that 6GB and play with it more.
Man your battery life is really good!

Actually, my RAM is well used and i am grateful for having 6 GB in the phone, that is, because i am using two profiles and on 4GB phones they were always operating at the limit. with the oneplus 3 finally this is over.
Praise the lord.

Fire Tablet 7 (5th Gen) Ram Question...

Hey guys. After a restart I am usually sitting at around 425 mb of free RAM. Most of the apps I run are light, FB Lite, Smart Keyboard Pro, etc. so it runs pretty fast to me, but it seems to slow down significantly when it gets to the low 300's. I am annoyed everytime I see the Amazon Video App (or Whisperplay Daemon) constantly running even though I don't use it or know what it is for. Most all my apps I use are third party.
How much ram do you guys with this device usually have free and is there any tips to get even more. I do not have a PC and obviously we can't root 5.4 right now.

FireOS uses several techniques (KSM, ZRAM, aggresive swapping) to insure apps will not force close due to limited resources. Downside is a significant degradation in performance. You can not tune these parameters nor prevent preinstalled apps from aggravating the situation without root permissions.
Two options:
- limit the number of apps you launch; swipe them away when finished
- reduce the number of preinstalled apps by running a debloat script
If you opt for the latter be sure to read through the caveats; you will probably want to make some modifications to the default script.
