Wireless keyboard working? - Nexus 10 Accessories

Hey guys,
I just ordered my Nexus 10 and now I'm looking for a keyboard to go along with it.
I think Bluetooth would not be the optimal choice because of battery drain, so I thought that a wireless keyboard (something like this one) with batteries and an adaptar than you can plug in via Micro USB to USB dongle might be the better choice.
But I don't know if it would work.
Any experience?
Thanks guys!

anazei,
I have kept my eyes open for comments about N10 compatible keyboards. In general these bluetooth keyboards are suppose to have excellant batter life (not listed in priority order):
1) Logitech K810 BT Keyboard
> ~$90
> http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/bluetooth-illuminated-keyboard-k810
2) Universal MiniSuit Bluetooth Keyboard and Stand for iPad, Galaxy Tab, Xoom, Playbook, TouchPad, and Other 10.1 Tablets
> CDN$ 71.99 + CDN$ 10.60 shipping
> Has integrated stand but stand is not a cover for the keyboard
> 7 of 11 hot keys work with Android - Works well with a TPU case

I'm still sitting on the fence as I just received my N10 6 days ago. I'm leaning towards the "Universal MiniSuit Bluetooth Keyboard" as I like the stand and Android function key support.
If I found one that had a stand, keyboard and mousepad combo I would scoop it up ASAP. I thought I once saw one with a right side pull out mouse pad, in this forum but could never find that post again.
The post under mine for a clam shell case, stand and keyboard is attractive. But I worry that the keyboard may scratch the N10's screen over time plus I would only occasionally want a keyboard. I have no idea how easy removing the N10 from the clam shell would be plus I have ordered a TPU case for the N10. The other keyboards would work with the TPU case but not the clam shell.

Happily typing this on my Logitech Android Keyboard. It works flawlessly with the Nexus 10, pairs instantly, has great battery life and comes with a nifty little case that can act as a stand.
Only thing I wish it had would be the ability to remap the function keys to different apps (eg. browser button to Chrome instead of default Android browser), but otherwise it works great. Key presses don't get lost when typing fast and the ergonomics of the keyboard are decent for its small form factor.

I have been using a logitech k810 for the last couple of weeks. I never had to charge it yet. The only thing I take care of it is to turn it off when I stop using it for the day. It pairs in 2-3 seconds after turning it on again. I can't compare with the other one, but I'm very happy with the purchase.

I found the bluetooth keyboard that has a pull out touch pad. It is sold out on Amazon(.ca and .com).
See: "New Trent iShuffle Multifunctional WirelessTouch Pad Bluetooth keyboard & stand"
http://www.amazon.com/New-Trent-Mul...h-Transformer/dp/B0083V9J2I/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t
This their comment about the pull out touch pad: "The keyboard also comes with a built in pull out touchpad that provides mouse/cursor support on your tablet (NOTE: not all tablet/OS support this features, Does not work with Apple iOS devices)".
No user rating was less than a 4. Even a user mentioned the keyboard worked well with a Nexus 10. Unfortunitely they never mentioned if the the touch pad worked one way or the other.
This one looks like another contender assuming it every gets back in stock.

I almost bought this a few days ago, but the numeric keypad is like a phone rather than a calculator or computer keyboard keypad. I want "1,2,3" to be at the bottom.

Here is another keyboard with the slide out touch pad that looks identical except maybe more silver than gray, although it could just be the lighting. At the moment they claim to have 10 in stock: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AFS314E/ref=pe_157280_28898470_email_1p_0_ti But note that the keypad numbers are also configured like a phone rather than a traditional calculator or keyboard numeric keypad.

Similar sized bluetooth keyboard?

Hello,
I just wanted to ask if anyone has found a keyboard thats similar sized to the galaxy tab itself.
This is the closest one I could find:
http://www.amazon.com/Handheld-Blue...SI/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1302267348&sr=8-11
But I've seen some pics and vids of other keyboard which seem to be of good size. What keyboards could you recommend?
Thanks
I got myself one of these bad boys...
http://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Key...3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1302275661&sr=1-3
It's folder/keyboard/stand all in one. The keyboard feels like an old spectrum keyboard (if that means anything to you) and is VERY responsive! Basically, it turns the tablet into a netbook.
Incidentally, I got mine for £25, so it was a bit cheaper than that. If you want one, shop around.
I just got the Logitech Dinovo Mini and it works perfectly. It's actually smaller than the tab and fits in one hand.

Thanks for the link Yea I've seen that one, but I don't quite like how you have to open a flap to prop it up.
Then again, the others that come up as in your link seem to be quite good, there is one that props up by slightly folding the case
^^ I'm just going to browse a bit more. Thanks for the links guys!
What about the Sprint Galaxy Tab version?
It appears that the Sprint GT has had the HID bluetooth disabled. Does anybody know if there is a fix for this? I would love to have one of the Cases that include the BT Keyboard for obvious reasons.
Thanks

i use the Mac small Bluetooth keyboard, which is also used for the Imac etc.... It works fine, immediately recognized by the Tab! costs in the Netherlands are about 50 $.
I do hope that some company makes a case are cool and awesome as the clamcase and crux360 (available only for the ipad)
I know some might say "just buy a netbook then". But serious, how many netbooks have such a long standby? How many will let you only use the screen... etc etc.
>.> Maybe just save up and get an Asus transformer...
BT Keyboard
I also use the Apple Bluetooth keyboard. It works great and it's rather comfortable to type with, the keys are responsive and the batteries last for months. It's a few inches longer than the Tab, so it may not quite be what you're looking for, but it's a great match for the Tab, despite being a Jobsian issue.
Be aware that there are some apps that have BT settings that will conflict with the use of any BT device and I had a GREAT MANY very frustrating device freezes requiring several reboots to correct. I was ready to shatter the device's screen and cut my own throat with the broken glass (hyperbole) until I found out about this unknown setting in Pandora for BT sync with an autotive BT system. After that was unticked, I didn't have anymore freezing issues *knock on wood*, so be wary of that.

That's nice to here I'm very keen on this one, just because its so close in dimensions to the tab itself. But then I'm thinking of getting a slightly larger one (probably the xoom keyboard or apple keyboard) since I could use it at home as well. Decisions decisions...
But I'm so envious of the clamcase I'm going to be annoying and ask if they have plans for the tab. Doubt it since its "old" and probably not too popular. But hey, who knows
Out of curiosity, who'd buy a clamcase if it was made for the tab? I would definitely!
Has anyone had any experience with this:
http://www.tomtop.com/rii-mini-wireless-bluetooth-keyboard-mouse-touchpad-presenter.html
And btw this site also does the case with Bluetooth keyboard linked in the second post for alot less than Amazon.

I've been working on trying to get the xoom keyboard to connect to my tab and so far I've got no where. It shows up in the bluetooth screen after a scan, but it just fails to give me a window to enter a paring number and gives me a message that I failed to enter the pairing number (which it then shows me) that is different every time.
Have you had any luck connecting one to your SGT?

Just connect it as you will with a bluetooth earpiece.
No other setting necessary.

I haven't got a xoom keyboard still having a difficult time choosing a keyboard.
Have been using the Logitech DiNovo Edge with the Galaxy Tab. Works just fine, but it is nowhere close to being portable! Anyway, the keyboard is falling apart after years of use, and I was debating between the diNovo Mini and the Logitech Mediaboard. I will be using it not just with the Tab, but also in a HTPC setup.
I feel the Mini is too small for extended typing and the reviews say it is a bit flimsy. I had almost decided on the Mediaboard... when I spotted this Iogear.
http://www.amazon.com/Multi-Link-Bl..._1_cc_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1305288857&sr=1-3-catcorr
Awaiting delivery. The specs are great, and the price is decent. Plus the model debuted at CES 2011, so I am assuming it is more 'modern' and up to date with drivers and profiles than the Logitech products which are a few years old now...
Will update once I have played around with the Iogear.
So many keyboards mentioned...
There's news of a transformer like keyboard for the galaxy tab 10
So jealous I mean I'd even settle for that horizontal keyboard dock for the 8.9. Sexy. I think our best bet would be to wait for the BB playbook to be released. Since its similar sized, we might be able to use their cases/docks etc...
Here's an interesting link/video:

Looks like the main prob with our current tab is that the docking port is orientated in portrait rather than landscape

[Q] Best keyboard for a Galaxy Tab?

Hey, guys! My Galaxy Tab will be here on Wednesday (very excited). I am looking at accessories for it now, and I'm kind of stuck at the keyboard option. Here's what I'm after.
- "Real" keyboard. I spend my life in front of a computer, and I don't care for the soft touch keyboards at all. Just don't feel right to me.
- Small, but not micro. I really just want a keyboard that's essentially the same as a laptop keyboard, but without the laptop.
- I don't want to go broke buying a keyboard. I don't have to tell you guys how much the tablet already cost me, and I don't want to spend a huge chunk on an input device for it.
Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Thank you so much!

Microsoft Mobile 6000 Bluetooth Keyboard for me - it works perfectly and you of couse can have your Tab in portrait or horizontal position.
Hi, I just bought an apple wireless keyboard today. It is light, elegant and well-priced for its quality. I am glad to report that I got it connected to my tab at first try.
Switched on Bluetooth, found the device, typed the passkey that appears on the tab screen with the apple keyboard, press enter and I got it! it works together with Samsung on-screen keyboard. Nothing to complain except that caps lock doesn't work. But I assume you could always download a driver from the market to make it work. I am happy for what I got for now.
Lastly my galaxy tab is an international model - in Australia. Hope I have helped those who were as anxious as I was while deciding whether to get the apple wireless keyboard.
Logitech keyboard for Android 3.0
This keyboard works pretty well for me. I liked this one because it has android shortcuts. Some of them do not work since it was designed for 3.0(HC). Cant wait to see HC on the 7in GTab! Then all the shortcuts should work.....

What is about leather cases with small keyboards that can be bought on Amazon or elsewhere? Do they do a job, are they worth for money? Many thanks.

You can consider Aluminum bluetooth dock keyboard for GALAXY Tab 10.1, model should be P7510. but a little expensive as it looks very cool, $50.35. The online store 's name is Casesinthebox, you can google it to find the keyboard.
Well, this bluetooth keyboard is just what i use now, this one is pratical cause it is a case meanwhile, so my tablet is well protected from the dust with the multi-functional keyboard.

I have the Touchpad keyboard. Works great with Android, and fits well in a bag. Though the media keys don't map to fn keys and there's no ALT.
The Perixx looks really good. So good that now that you've brought it to my attention I might flog my TP keyboard on eBay and get one.
I'm pretty happy with my apple keyboard heh. It's full size for typing, and small for throwing in my bag and my favorite feel for a keyboard next to my Model M. I bought it for my nook color when there weren't even decent android keyboards to buy if you wanted to. It was good to my nook, and it's even better to my nexus

You can't detach the keyboard from a laptop or netbook. You also can't hold a laptop or netbook in your hands while using it. A tablet with a keyboard accessory has more versatility and portability than a laptop, the only question is whether you'll find the apps and OS sufficient to do your work.
Back to the topic, I picked up the Logitech keyboard today. Best tablet keyboard I've used so far, certainly much better than the poopy one I got with the dock on my old TF101. Pick one up if you can spare the cash.
ThinkOutside
I use my ThinkOutside BT keyboard. It works a treat. It can be a bit pricey from some places, cheaper from others, but I think they are all teh same thing. I have had mine about 5 years, and it works with almost all devices.
Pros:
1. Thin
2. Full-size keys
3. proper keys with travel (not rubber)
4. Stand for phone or small tab
Cons:
1. Price?
2. ?
Had this same issue last week and while the Logitech is good, it is expensive without getting a refurbished one.

Bluetooth Aluminum Keyboard Case/Stand - Similar to Logitech Keyboard Case for iPad

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI...sPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en#ht_2264wt_1037
As the title suggests, it looks similar to the Keyboard Case offering that Logitech have for the iPads. So what's everyone's take on it? Looks pretty functional in terms of the keyboard, but in terms of a case, I wonder how practical it is.
Nice find I have been looking for this.
Thanks!
similar found for UK
Found a similar one on the UK amazon site called IVSO wireless bluetooth keyboard case for Google Nexus 7 Tablet (BLACK Keys) (by Gambolex). Has anyone used it yet? Just worry that the keys will come into contact with the screen as it did a similar case I had for my Vega. Size-wise it looks like a 7" folding PU leather keyboard case for my wayteq xpad. Took a while to get used to but seemed pretty good

This is actually pretty awesome and reasonably priced. I may have to pick one of these up

wow that actually looks really nice! does the tablet "snap" into the keyboard when its being used as a keyboard (as opposed to snapping on as a case)? that is my only concern, having it slide off the keyboard and falling unprotected to the ground lol

Theirs a new case out it has the tab key now its perfect still no hinge
I'm typing this message on one now. Very impressed with the quality. Size is going to take some timeto get used to though, but what else to expect from a 7 inch keyboard. The nexus just sits in the slot, feels quite sturdy but there's no clipping. Case clips over the nexus well, but wouldn't survive a drop.

i am typing on mine and very happy with it.
idea for manufacturer though....
i am sure that not all available space under the cover is taken by the battery and that there must be some added weight to keep it steady with tablet in the slot.
why not use all of the space for a heavy duty battery (heavy in weight as well) and put some pogo pins in the slot to top-up N7 battery

Which one? The one i see in Amazon all does not have Tab key.
Read the reviews there. You'll see them mention that the keyboard layout has changed and now has a tab key.

My IVSO keyboard arrived today. It took 7 days to arrive in Ireland from date of order (via Amazon). Keyboard feels solid. Looks good in use and when stored in the case. When I placed the order the photos of keyboard showed that there was no tab key, see (sorry, but cannot add links as I am a new member). HOWEVER the one that arrived has a tab key above the enlarged 'Q' key (along the same line as the number keys). I have attached some photos here. Apologies if I don't have the orientation right. Have been using it for a few hours now and it feels as good as the much more expensive keyboard I bought for my work IPAD (about euro90). The keys are a little crowded and I am hitting the wrong key sometimes, but in fact no more than I do as a hunter and pecker on a full scale keyboard.
I also took the opportunity when ordering to buy the IVSO OTG host cable (which with the Nexus Media Importer app) allowed me to connect a 16GB USB stick to the Nexus 7. I could open photos, videos and play music I have been told to be careful when order the cable as not all will work with the Nexus. I tried attaching a USB 1TB drive but as expected it did not show up as an available device. Am on the look out for a good 64GB or 128GB USB stick and when I locate one, I will try it out on the Nexus like the 16GB one. The OTG connection is a little bit wonky and loose. It doesn't feel 100% secure, but having said it has not fallen out yet. But it wouldn't take much to knock it out I think. Yet, for the price, it opens up a whole new way of increasing the (derivative) memory of the Nexus 7 and that is a great thing.
I think the key board and cable are great accessories, and I am using the keyboard to write this message with few mistakes for a hunter and pecker.
Also, if anyone is looking to convert their bose sound dock to a bluetooth device, check out the I-Wave device (again, sorry but I cannot add hyperlinks) which also arrived today and allows me to stream via bluetooth from the Nexus to my bose sounddock. So far, so good and if it continues to work out, then it will have saved me 100's of euros buying a specially made wireless/bluetooth bose speaker (there are videos on you tube showing a bloke demonstrating its versatility).

Just sent PM. The company supplier is Gambolex in China. My Amazon order page (for the delivered good) is saying it is now out of stock. When I ordered stock was low. But might be worth contacting them direct?
I have one as well with a tab button. My keys are extremely small... I like it as a case but it's not a great keyboard for me... Great to watch movies and play video games on while it's in typing position though...

Bluetooth Keyboard for NOOK HD+

I want to share anybody his/hers experience Bluetooth Keyboard for NOOK HD+.
My NOOK was rooted and installed CM 10.2. I tested GE Bluetooth Keyboard from Target ($39.99 +Tax).
It was hard pairing at 1st time - ON/OFF Bluetooth SW and NOOK's Bluetooth Button several times - but connected, paired and can type.
If anyone use Bluetooth Keyboard with NOOK HD+, share the experience in here.
Thanks

I am using a mini keyboard from FAVI http://www.amazon.com/FAVI-Bluetoot...&sr=8-2&keywords=favi+mini+bluetooth+keyboard it works on all version of CM, Carbon 4.2 and 4.3, and stock with no issues. As long as your Rom has bluetooth this works great and easy to carry too.

SHARKK Backlight BT 3.0
I use that keyboard that I got for Christmas this year. no issue pairing on CM 10.2 or CM 11. It has a multi-colored backlight that you can choose, dedicated media keys, brightness keys which are SUPER convenient, Screen lock key, etc. It's really thin and I haven't charged it since I got it (Jan 12th, late gift.) I really like it. The ONLY complaint I have is that the metal they chose for it's structure is soft and really flexible, so bending on it even slightly with through it out of alignment and then typing on it, it will click and clang around on the table or desk. requiring a readjustment to straighten it. a minor annoyance but still worth mentioning.
That sharkk one does look nice, but does anyone know of a keyboard that you can attach to the tablet somehow?
I really miss that feature from my TF700 (it was probably the only great aspect of it).

Search following item in AMAZON...
"Lumsing Ultrathin iPad Wireless Bluetooth 3.0 Fluorescent Aluminum Keyboard with Stands"
One user replied, it works for NOOK HD+ with stock rom, but does not know for CM 10.1/10.2.
It has option for Windows/Android/iOS.

Poetic case and bluetooth keyboard. Works great. I'm running CM 10.1(update: now running cm 11. Still works great. Added blutooth mouse to the mix. Seems to handle the bluetooth stack well)

The keyboard and case is probably half the weight of the tablet. I don't think its bad at all.
Specs say the keyboard weighs 505g.

I was thinking of getting something like this but was worried it might be too heavy. I have an hour trip to work on the train and another hour home and usually have to stand so I have to hold the tablet one handed so weight is important. I was also thinking of one of the ones that the keybaord is removable not sure if the one you have can do that or not,

Thanks man. One last question if you don't mind. If you use the hdmi adapter does it work with out taking the nook out of the case? That is my biggest complaint on the case I have now which is a poetic I have to pull it out to watch a movie on my TV.

I just got a Microsoft Wedge Bluetooth Keyboard($47) and a cheap Hype Bluetooth Mouse ($14) for my HD+. Both work flawlessly. Don't go cheap on the keyboard. It's important for comfortable typing.
Best - Mike
Have FAVI with laser pointer...... Nice, compact, easy to use and set up.... Comes with laser pointer(not why I bought). Using it is like typing on phone, battery life is longer then Nook so I just charge them both at same time.... Best feature is mouse pad on keyboard, did not think I would use it but it makes cutting and pasting very easy........
HD+ and MS Wedge keyboard
Mike, did you have to do anything special to get your Wedge keyboard to pair with your HD+, as my Wedge works perfectly with my Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 phone, but won't pair with my HD+, running either the stock ROM or CM 10.2? Be great to hook them up and then add a mouse...
Regards, Jon.

I just picked up a Nook HD+ and a HP K4000 bluetooth keyboard.
The k4000 wouldn't pair with the Nook, but worked with all my other devices.
After an hour wasted with tech support from HP and B&N, google searches led me to forums that suggested downloading and installing
an app from the Google Play store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teksoftco.android.blueinput&hl=en
It worked, but I'm not sure about the app.
Any other suggestions on another method, or google play app, that will make this work?
Thanks
That app is real iffy, unfortunately. The nook hd will work well with Bluetooth keyboards while on a stock rom, however the keyboard has to be android specific. Something about the way the Bluetooth is setup. If you root the device and put cyanogenmod rom on the nook hd, those restrictions no longer pose a problem, and any bluetooth keyboard will work
