1) root your phone
2) install a recovery (cwm or twrp)
3) go in recovery
4) choose install zip from sd card
5) reboot
If you don't understand something in these steps, feel free to use search of this forum or google. Best way to learn

Question, is your Z rooted? If not, goto
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2186368 and use option 3 of the rooting method paying close attention to onscreen instructions.
Once rooted, you need to install a recovery, look around in the original android sub forum making sure you get the correct one (i.e. If you did not unlock the bootloader then get those for locked bootloaders)
Once you've done that, download the zip in OP and reboot into recovery, find where the file was located, select it and flash it accordingly. That's basic enough. Anything more and you'd better search around, read 3 times, ask the right questions and don't blame anyone especially the devs if your phone suffers nuclear meltdown

Thanks for this niaboc79 Hope you don't mind me asking you this here...one thing that's bugging me (because I don't actually dial numbers that much) is the default state of dialpad shown when you open the phone app, do you think it would be possible to create a mod with the dialpad minimized by default?

[req] contacts / phone app mod
Dear niaboc79,
pls be kind enough to consider making a mod of the phone / contacts app to work properly with system dpi reduced via build.prop to 320.
Right now with the stock app the problem is that the keyboard is scaled incorrectly and the green "Dial" button disappears and the s/w keyboard pops up whenever you start the dialer. setting the app's dpi to the stock 480 value via the xposed app settings does not help if the system dpi is set to anything below 361. w.g. for me personaly 320 is the most comfortable overal dpi
If you choose to revert to this i will be very grateful.
brgrds

Can someone who knows his way around android modding confirm the following instruction is applicable to th XZ dialer?
asi i tried to follow it but yhe apk tool gives me an error whe decompiling the apk and i see no xml's listed on the b/m manual...
Pls kindly point me in the right direction, so i can learn and do myself if it is considered not worth your while.
Many thanks.

Use latest apktool and don't forget to put framework-res.apk in same folder and do apktool if framework-res.apk before to decompile.

Actually, figured out that needed to install the sony specific SemcGenericUxRes.apk and not only the framework after that the apk decompiles ok.
But comparing to the manual i quoted above, i cant seem to understand what xml should be modified i/o for the app to dupport a non-standard screen density...
help pls
Added.
Now i figured all the values in the layouts here refer to dimen xmls. Did you edit the dimen's to do your mod? Or you exchanged the dimen references with dip values in the layouts? Did you sign the new apk or 7zipped modified xmls into the original?
Is it possible to get a bootloop with modifying the phone and contacts apk's? I've rooted odex stock with locked bootloader.
This phone is my daily driver and i am concerned not to have connectivity at some point of experimenting.
Pls be kind enough to advise, as i beleive i've found the layout values responsible for the dialpad 12 keys, but now am not sure how to proceed as i am absolutely new to apk editing and the sony devices.
Many thanks in advance for the support if you choose to provide it.

Del.

Is this still compatible with the latest Z .253 update?
Or does the apk need modding for the new firmware as well?
Regards

I have made a flashable zip by following balamu96m guide. You can find it attached with this post, If it doesnt work out delete the settings.apk from system/app/ and replace it with the one attached in this post and set permissions as rw-r-r.
Update: 29-April-2012
- Battery Use menu now directs you straight to the settings/About phone/battery use.
- Added new flashable zip

I have attached a new zip, give it a try. I am not sure if it will work or not. I am not much good at creating flashable zips.
Added new screenshots
Flashable zip doesnt work, need to replace settings.apk (I recommend rename it to settings.apk1 for backup, then copy the new settings.apk, I srly recommend ES file explorer, Its free and no need to change/fix permissions).
Thank you!
Any bugs we should be aware of? I read in other threads (ICS settings in CM7) that manual brigthnessdidnt work and FCs, and another minor bug with location and security, I dont have these issues with this version, brightness work as it should and no FCs... the only thing I dont like its the "Battery use" takes you to the ugly ass battery history from "dev tools" I think... any way to change it to the real battery use located in "settings/About phone/battery use"

Does any one knows the android target class for the battery use in about phone.
for ex:- android:targetClass="com.android.settings.wifi.Wif iSettings"
I need the line marked in red.
And for the flashable zip, I gave it a couple of tries but I wasnt successful in creating one, maybe someone could take a view on the updater-script and let me know what I did wrong.

Sorry for the late response, it should be one of these:
com.android.settings.fuelgauge.powerusagesummary => I think is this one, don't remember
com.android.settings.fuelgauge.powerusagedetail
com.android.settings.BatteryInfo => I think it goes here right now...
com.android.settings.fuelgauge.powerusagedetail => Or maybe here, this one sucks
Sorry I don't know witch is witch but I can't see right now my phone is unenviable due to "rebirth"
------------------------------------
Alright tested, its the first one, the second one its the same as clicking the graphic. If you can change it to the new location I would be very very happy

It was made for O2X and no one using O2X is having the problem. And also the battery menu is included since its there in ICS too, just to make it similar to ICS settings.
And also this mod is made almost 4 months ago, when u flash it its replacing the settings.apk. I am pretty sure during this 4 months CM must have made improvements to settings.apk, so there for by flashing this mod u r replacing the new settings.apk with an old one.
ok i understand but dont you update it? or just please make one with deleted battery menu so i can use it

Look into your /system/framework/ dir, if there are many .odex files you probably got an odexed rom, else is deodexed.
I've flashed it and everything is perfect. There isn't any lag when launching the phone/message/camera app with this lock screen.
I'm currently on a ODEX rom (official 4.0.4) and running air kernel V4.0
Thanks!
And btw, post more things for ODEX roms!
*******ooooops, found a bug (glad I made an nand backup)**********
When the phone is on the dock, the lock screen doesn't work properly. The lock screen seems ok, everything is on it's place, but the shortcuts aren't working.
-When I use the camera shortcut, nothing happens;
-When I use the phone shortcut, nothing happens;
-When I use the message shortcut, I get to the phone app instead of the message app.
-And finally when try to unlock the phone, I get to the camera app.
Anyway, if you don't have a Nexus S dock, you shouldn't have any problems.
Thank you for your report.
Yes, this is not meant to be used in Landscape, ICS lockscreen rotate isn't enabled by default. Also didn't know the existance of such dock got my NS since less then a month.
Took a look again at the code and figured out wich is the problem:
the lockscreen has fixed position that overlap each other when in landscape.
Normally it doesn't matter cos Unlock goes from 0 to 1, and camera from 2 to 3.
But the problem exists when you add more shortcut:
As u can see is easy to understand why 2 were working (wrong) and 2 not at all.
This would require some more coding.

Thanks for the answer. Well, as much as I enjoyed the new lock screen, I won't be able to use it since my phone is most part of the day docked.
About the dock, it's very simple, and only charges the phone. And while the phone is docked, you don't have access to the volume keys , perhaps a design problem.
(link to the dock)
And also thanks for the ODEX mods!

Atm one overwrite the other since they involves the same files, you've to mod those files with both mods at same times to make them working like i have on my phone.
is there a way to revert back without nandroid? I get to the new lock screen, then it says apex launcher stopped working, then android keyboard, then reboots. Rinse and repeat

Nandroid again. This time, I took my framework, decompiled it, changed the lock screen rotate, compiled, signed, flashed. Same thing. Why or what would cause it to get to the lock screen then just reboot??

Im on stock 4.0.4 GSM
I know yours had more changes, mine only had one change, and I even decompiled an compiled a untouched one and got the same results.
I decompiled framework-res.apk
changed <bool name="config_enableLockScreenRotation">true</bool>
saved recompiled signed and flashed
Now, Im a total noob at this, so I may have messed up somewhere, but my mod did the same thing yours did so thats where Im at.
Maybe later today, ill nandroid again, go to 100 percent stock, and try again. Now that I think of it, I have a battery circle mod that gave some issues and the guy who fixed it did something with the framework file too. :/
@black you can read the explanation few post above. This is not intended to work in landscape mode. It would require a complete code rewrite as for now the positions are fixed. So if you set that value to true it'not gonna work. And if you use other mods there's always a chance something won't work, this is the main issues of odex roms.

[GUIDE] How to make live wallpapers to work on custom roms

Some custom roms dont have the live wallpaper function enabled....Actually the file to make it work is deleted along with other files to make roms bareboned.
This is a guide to enable live wallpapers on those roms....
NOTE: Its not a very complex thing, rather quite simple and easy and nothing new.....but i found so many noobs and beginners with this problem. So I decided to come up with a guide.
Steps:
1. Download the attachment (LiveWallpapersPicker.apk), Put it on your SD.
2. Use a root explorer and move the file to "system/apps"
3. After moving the file long press on the LiveWallpapersPicker.apk and select permissions from the menu, then set permissions as rw-r-r- (see screenshot)
Download your favourite live wallpaper, apply it and enjoy

Hi
I hope you get this. I have a galaxy gear all rooted and with null 15 rom. I have everything set as per your directions. In fact it was already preset that way including permissions. Nothing works. I'm really just trying to get bubbles running with no luck either. Any other possable sugestions would be greatly appreciated. Also do you happen to know what I can do to unblock bluetooth tether on my t889 note 2 . Thank you
hi. thanks for this tutorial. however when trying to apply a wallpaper the app crashes. ..
I'm running android 4.2.1
any help with this?
thanks!
nevermind , got the correct apk and now good to go, thanx!
same problem...
Any help with this again?
I was able to get it to work before, but now just fc.
Can't figure it out.
JB 4.2.1 (I think I have the right apk)
If anyone knows where to find the exact match, please post the link, as maybe this is the problem?
Pushed to system, changed perms etc.
I do notice that the LWP option under wallpapers is with "apps" not in a separate section as I remember it to be...
The only other thing I can figure is flashing a zip through recovery, but I don't see any zips for a LWP...
Doing this for my wife, as I got me a new device, help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

You won't get soft brick, cause recovery is in kernel. (Can flash to other rom)

We need this file:
Malayalam_script_0.906_windows.zip
--you must download ,without it, no Malayalam support!(search in your language I don't know Malayalam )
Then extract it.
Open rom & extract these files :
system/framework/framework.jar
system/lib/libandroid_runtime.so
system/lib/libwebcore.so
Put these 3 files in input folder of Malayalam_script app.
Open command.exe
Choose aosp, senseUI, cyanogenmod depending on your rom
A CMD window will appear, just wait for it to finish the work.
Put output files back in the rom...
You're done.

Hi. How about editing android translations? I mean adding % of battery to "Connect your charger" lockscreen text. In Polish.
What do you mean?
Sent from my A100 using xda app-developers app
Let's see. If you turn on the battery notification on the lockscreen, you can see "Battery 45%". In this notation, "45%" is some kind of variable. I want to use this variable when the battery drops below 20% and you can see only "Connect the charger". I want to look it like a "Connect the charger - 13%." And I want it in Polish. I suppose it can be done by editing the translations.
In the simplest terms: where can I find the texts "Connect the charger", "Charged", etc. for different languages?
On framework-res.apk /res/values/strings.xml
There isn't strings.xml or even values folder inside framework-res.apk. Tried on GDX_v030 and GingerCM_v11
Need to decompile the apk, not only open like a zip file.
u can use apk-tool, Bart, etc.
Odp: How to add new system language
Thanks bro. I've Just created my first "mod" and it works fine

AOSP navigation buttons

Hi. I followed this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...mctr=(not provided)&__utmv=-&__utmk=264333452
because I wanted to mod an existing theme to get AOSP navi buttons. I zipped the files back up and renamed the extension to api but it says error parsing the file. Can anyone help me make a theme based on the original "Air" defat theme that has AOSP buttons instead of the tweaked sony ones? Thanks.

So do I need to unlock boot loader or root?

Yeap...
You need root to edit or replace system files.
Believe me, if there's any chance to edit bav bar on unrooted, LB device I'll do that.
I hate those huge nav bar icons...
I'll try something today, NUT gave great idea last night and it's worth of trying.

Could this Noir theme be edited?
http://d-h.st/2Nh
Also, I don't know where to get the original android buttons in png for 1080p displays (e.g. from Nexus 5)

It's not problem to build theme or edit one, the problem lies in fact that you have to patch services.jar file and disable signature check - we can't do that without root...
As soon as you decompile theme to edit it it will lose assigned keys, even if you haven't changed anything - system will accept that theme but theme manager won't apply it to system.
Only wallpaper will change...

Ohh... I understand. I wish Sony would release a themes creator but it looks like they won't.
Do you know how rooting affects future updates and if it affects the DRM keys?

In 99.9% of cases if you have rooted device you'll be able to receive information about OTA update but you won't be able to install it.
Same thing is for unlocked bootloader.
Root won't affect DRM keys but as we can't root Z2 (at the moment) without unlocking bootloader - your keys will be lost forever.
Right and proper way is to first root device, backup TA partition and then unlock bootloader...but, as I said, we can't root BL device for now...
You won't lose much if you lose DRM but I prefer to keep it.

As soon as guys find out a way to root BL status NO - I'll continue my work...
Z2 threads will be something special...
We have to support that dev thread and if we get Niaboc and all others on Z2 will have a lot if fun...
Check that thread and see those names...
We would have awesome ROMs, great ports, awesome kernels and best recoveries...
