[Q] Phone rooting. - LG Optimus 4X HD

If I root my phone (4X obviously) what services should I disable/uninstall and how to give it a bit more of battery life and better performance?
I've read around that Maps was one of the issues that was sucking up battery as a system app and people mentioning disabling some services but nothing specific.
Could someone give me some tips on what to remove and keep for a better experience?
Thank you.

Just search for "battery drain" and I'm sure you'll find something about that.

Stupid Battery Drain (arrrrggghhhh)

Hi All,
My rage is at an all time high, I seem to suffer from mental battery drain on 3g,/lte. It's not even when I'm using the phone, for example, this morning, train journey in I lost 7% battery in one hour. The phone was sat happily in my pocket doing nothing.
I have google now turned on, facebook with messenger various things syncing, but surely even if thats the case that still seems really high to me,
Anyone got any good advice ...
If it's only on 3g that would suggest something is causing wakelocks by synching/pushing. Install Better Battery Stats, run it for a few days and then check the results. They are pretty easy to understand but you can always screencap them and post them here if you want some help. Just be sure to do it in this thread, no point in making another one.

[Q] Battery Life Issues?

Can anybody here help me diagnose my battery life issues? The battery was incredible for the first couple of days of use, and then suddenly plummeted to what I'm displaying in the screenshots. I know it doesn't look terrible, but it was so much better before, and I haven't downloaded any apps or anything. I had the same problem with sudden droppage on my HTC One too. I don't think it's the fact that Android System is so high because I've seen a lot of other people with this issue and I've had it across two devices as well on 4.3+.

I have! I don't know what the problem is with every phone I buy. Do any of my app seem rare to you? I have essentially the same setup on every phone I buy and the battery life is only good for the first couple of days.

Can you download Gsam from play store? Then fully charge your phone...Go until you need to charge again, and print screen Gsam main screen?
The screens you have don't tell much.

your best bet is to downbload an app that can detect wakelocks. if you are on 4.4 and don't have root then you there are no more apps you can use to view these wakelocks because 4.4 removed that ability. If you are in that situation, try googling certain apps you may think are weird. like "chrome beta battery drain issue" and im sure one of your apps will pop up a result that describes how it is screwing up your battery drain.
Again tho....the battery thread has all kinds of trouble shooting help.....I'd just be repeating it all here.

YEAH! Go read those 150+ pages like a normal person with a life!
But one thing I've found that helped a ton: Go into Settings --> Accounts --> Google --> (your google account) --> unsync anything you don't use.
Google Keep was keeping my phone awake for about an hour a day.
Battery life has GREATLY improved for me.

Well, let's see.. .this thread has been open 11 hours as of now...and still ongoing. I'd say you could read the whole battery thread in an hour....which has every battery saving tip there is mentioned in it. As well as how to trouble shoot. ...Gsam for example. (Which I mentioned here hours ago even)
Seems to me that's a lot of time saved.

just a guess, but the issue could be your mobile signal. notice in the screen shot that there is some green/yellow there - indicating that your signal was weak/not connected. a weak/no signal would cause significant battery drain.
also, I'm fairly certain that any app related to FB consumes a lot of battery life.
also, get the CPUSpy app - that tells you if your phone has been entering deep sleep or not.
hope this helps.
I figured it out. Installed a CPU monitoring application since I'm not rooted and saw that the phone was barely sleeping. Purely by chance I guessed it was Snapchat, greenified the application, and it worked! Thanks for your help guys.

SprintHiddenMenu aka System Programu Battery Usage

Hi All,
I am a new Nexus 5 owner on T-Mobile and noticed that the phone was getting very poor battery life running stock Android 4.4.4, at least compared to my old Galaxy Nexus (which almost caught fire due to a charging port gone bad).
After rooting and installing the XPosed BatteryStats module and GSam Battery Monitor it appeared that SprintHiddenMenu aka System Programu was having a significant impact on the phone in terms of battery life when the phone should be asleep. Unfortunately revoking the excessive privileges with the 'App Settings' xposed module had little effect on CPU usage.
Eventually I decided to backup the apk to sdcard, remount /system read/write (`mount -o remount,rw /system`), delete /system/app/SprintHiddenMenu.apk and other cache & data files (found with `find / -iname '*hidden*'`), and reboot the phone.
The result has been a phenomenal increase in battery life so far (less than a day granted), going from greater than %5 battery consumption per hour to around or less than %1 per hour when sleeping.
Configuration is with location reporting set to off and battery saving mode, Droid Wall set to block some apps (including Kernel), and Greenify prevents various background apps. Network type is set to LTE and appears to be using very little CPU. Kernel now consumes more CPU on sleep than Android System (SprintHiddenMenu's category). DS Battery Saver might help to extend this further by disabling all network use and periodically wake for traffic.
For unrooted phones experiencing bad battery life you can try to Force Stop the System Programu app and test how that effects longevity. The service will restart on boot, however there is probably an app that can prevent that.
Wasn't able to find this info anywhere else so hope that helps some people that are frustrated with their Nexus 5 battery use.
Cheers!
I installed the xposed module for battery stats. Did the System Progamu show up in the wakelock details? It is listed in my included packages when I click Android System in GSam, but it hasn't been showing up in the wakelock.

I am not sure, wish I had taken a screenshot, but if your Android System use is higher than Kernel it is likely due to System Programu. Honestly I have no desire to install it again and check. I think it showed up with DS Battery Saver logs and is at the top of the list for Manage in GSam under Android System when it is causing high battery usage. Should have checked Net Logs also for more info on what was being sent.
A little rant about this program, best case it is trying to send usage statistics to the vendor (use of what? everything on the phone? how do I disable that? no opt-in or opt-out?). Worse case it is an intentional built-in back door and monitoring system, the app has access to everything on the phone and virtually no user interface other than jumping through hoops to create them. If I were a government agency trying to extract data or a malicious person designing a method to circumvent security I would look at System Programu.
Or even if it really is a misbehaving app designed as a developer tool then it was totally destroying my battery life, and as a developer I have no use for it.
YMMV though, simply perform a Force Stop on System Programu and see if your battery life is better when sleeping.
*Edit:
And maybe I am entering into crazy guy territory but I find it interesting that SprintHiddenMenu and System Programu both start with the letter S and end with the U. su indeed....

Best way to figure out if it is having an effect on your battery life is just to Force Stop and see what happens, collect new battery stats.
It is a useless app, some people use it for the RTN functionality, which I have no use, and it was clearly trying to do stuff that I was not asking it to.

From what I have read this actually provides the RTN menus on GSM phones that automatically work on CDMA networks like Sprint. It smells like evil though with all that extra functionality.
If I remember right the app was LG branded, and exists on phones other than the Nexus 5.

It was causing a pointless wakelock on my device which is why I removed it in the first place.

I don't think it ever runs on my phone. I tried to force close it and it's greyed out. I've been checking for the past couple of hours and it seems like it's not running. I did try to greenify before force close, but I de-greenified it. So I guess it might come back when something triggers it. However, my Android system does use more than the kernel.

L90-D415 Battery Autonomy

I love the performance of my L90 but I would like to know how the performance is in another L90...
Would greatly appreciate your Screenshoots.
How do you manage such great battery life? That is one of the issues I am having with this phone...
I am running everything at Stock though, but using apps like Spotify for an hour drains my battery from 100% to 90%, and doing simple web browsing, email and texting drains it further. Majority of the times, I am on Wi-Fi, but when I am on 4G it is worse. Would love to know how you manage such great battery life. Hell, I deleted the Facebook and Facebook Messenger app thinking it may improve battery life, which is not the case
Here's mine, modified stock I'm constantly messing with it and use gps with the screen off a lot. Screen stays at minimal brightness for the conditions
Wait, WHAT!?
Haha, My screen's brightness is always at the lowest! Can you guys please share how you guys achieve such great battery life?

Can you expand on that? I deleted majority of the crap and my phone's battery life is still bad.
Do you use apps like facebook, snapchat, instagram, twitter, etc...? If you do, how do you resolve issues with those apps and battery life? I deleted Facebook and Messenger and instead created a shortcut to the facebook.com URL as both messenger and the facebook app drained my battery very quickly.
Additionally, what do you use to maintain a speedy phone? My phone does tend to slow down, where I have to restart the phone (even though only half of the RAM is being used).

You could try Greenify, which suspends certain apps (you can select the ones you want). Also, try disabling unnecessary apps and their notifications. Occasionally cleaning up your phone with Clean Master or the likes is helpful as well. Not having many apps is another way to go.

I tried both apps, but apparently after I "optimize" all the apps that were previously hogging RAM and such come back active.
When you mention not having many apps "is another way to go", what do you mean by that? Personally, I rely my phone on some quick social media stuff (Snapchat, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook[I now use facebook.com instead], WhatsApp, etc...). My phone is also my source of GPS, sadely, Google Maps is the only good (free) GPS application out there, I tried Sygic, but it is buggy, and quite frankly, being a college student I don't feel its worthwhile to spend $30 on a GPS software when I can just buy a normal TomTom GPS for another $15 thrown in (no hate of course )
Would love more light on this topic though, I love my phone, but would love to have a battery life that doesn't die out. Is there a way to do diagnostic tests that I can share with you guys to see where I can make improvements and what not?

Well, English isn't my native language, so forgive me if I caused any misunderstanding. What I meant was to try and reduce the amount of apps on your phone as much as you can. But if the apps you mention are pretty much what you use on a daily basis, another thing to do is try to identify the apps that might hog the battery the most. I've had similar issues, so I just went over all the apps that I had, uninstalled the least used ones and those that might suck up all the battery juice. In a worst case scenario, you could backup your data and do factory reset, installing only the apps you really need afterwards. In my experience, it all boiled down to certain apps. Some of them might run in the background nearly all the time, wasting precious battery life. So I'd suggest to go over all the apps you use and really pick out what you do and do not need. If the issues persist... Well... Battery's dying? LG does only give half a year of warranty for it, at least where I live.
Ah okay, thanks for the clarification! I'll look into seeing if the actual battery may be the issue in all of this, and seek a replacement if it becomes the case.
I appreciate your response!

Sorry man! I thought the battery life was almost the same in our l90. I just use cm11 by shinobisoft because the lg stock rom is so slow and it drains more my battery. I think that it depends on the usage of the device because the l90 has a great battery capacity for the hardware that depends on it; When i charge the battery into 100%, the first 10% almost take 1 screen hour. It is just a beautiful battery you just must know when to turn off some features, like the manual operation of wifi or bluetooth or gps. It is more efficient than using some apps that helps for better battery life. At least it works for me.

See how often you have set for all those social media apps, email and messages to sync. Apps syncing/updating in the background and push notifications can cause hugh drains on your system. Consider turning off sysncing. Most apps sync on access anyway.

Actually yes, I use Battery Guru and Greenify (for non-root devices). Snapdragon Battery Guru learns and disables itself all the unneeded apps from real-time sync, and that's actually awesome. I'm having real-time sync for Whatsapp, Corporate Mail etc. (don't use Facebook too much, so it's greenified). However, even with 1-2 hours a day listening to music, about 1 hour daily phone use (reading news on Google NewsStand and some other sport apps), 30 min calls per day I've got the above result.
Very satisfied of the phone's battery life (after my Motorola Atrix 2, with which in similar conditions I was getting about a half battery autonomy)
Btw, a real battery economy is using Edge instead of 3G/LTE.
Interesting, I may have to look into that combination!

Cm11 Roms have better battery time, also u can change the mode to battery saver in toggles and get easily 24 hours, and put data in 2g, it saves a LOT of battery.

Wondering if rooting my phone would increase battery life...?

Hey there,
I've had my 3T ever since it was released, and compared to my previous phone, Samsung S6, I'm definitely getting a better battery life, but it's been hit or miss for me the last month or so, and I'm wondering how I can try and increase the battery life and whether rooting my phone would help.
I've literally never rooted a phone before, so I don't know if this is advisable for someone so new to all this - is it easy to do so?
I've included a few screenshots of my battery life currently, I used to get around 7 hours SOT total, now I'd say I get around 5-6 depending on what I do? I don't constantly have wifi on, I'm not using greenify or any other battery saving apps, I have doze on in the developer settings but not aggressive dose.
I've seen others with 10 hours SOT so I know this phone is certainly capable of it, and I know I don't have the most terrible battery life but the drain is fairly noticeable imo when it's idle.
Would it be worthwhile to factory reset the phone first and see if it improves anything first?
While rooting itself wouldn't increase battery life, you can do some stuff like, flash a different kernel such as Franco kernel, that has improved my battery life immensely. Or you can install a rom which could help also.
And yes rooting your phone is very simple just follow the guides step by step. That's my battery life at 78%

I think it was fine for a while on Nougat, it's only been the past couple updates that have caused my battery life to decrease. I like Nougat a lot so I don't really want to downgrade, but if there's any other options I can take that would help, then I'd be willing to try... It's the standby time too that seems to be an issue, drain is 2% an hour even when it's idle (with wifi, bluetooth, LTE etc off)

It's the standby time too that seems to be an issue, drain is 2% an hour even when it's idle (with wifi, bluetooth, LTE etc off)

Maybe its just our batteries degrading. I used to get 12-14 and now I only get 10-12. Same apps and settings and usage.

i fixed this by installing app ops and disabling keep phone awake, location, body sensors, and wake device permissions from google play services. Installing greenify and putting all my apps in there that i dont rely on notifications for. Setting up a tasker profile to greenify apps whenever my display is turned off (greenify doesn't do this straight away and some apps take forever). Installing naptime and turning on aggressive doze (for the apps that aren't greenified, works better than nougat's built in i think it doesn't kick in for 30 minutes on it's own).
I get 1% drain per 6-8 hours this way. The app ops part was the final step i took because i noticed 600 alarms from google play services overnight and now i dont get more than 30 so obviously thats completely ridiculous.

Are you rooted? I'm wondering how much of this I can do without rooting but I know apps like Greenify work better with root and Naptime requires root to work. I figured Greenify and Doze were doing similar things but I guess Greenify works differently? I'll probably find that rooting will get me better battery life in general if I can make use of all these apps by doing so. I don't know how to check wakelocks without rooting (don't think there's a way) but GSam tells me the Android System "Number of Times Waking Device" is 184. idk if this really says much tho.

I don't a reason not to root any more, with magisk you get root and can still use things like android pay or banking apps etc.
