Nexus4 Body case defect ??? - Nexus 4 General

Dear Nexus User,
I finally found people who are discussing those two nubs !!!
I also read another post which discuss this issue and I actually totally disagree with the function of those two tiny nubs are actually the upgraded of the phone:silly:: stop sliding on the surface ? or helps the sound comes out better ? As someone mentioned already they are not even noticeable, and they are tiny ... so if they are tiny and not noticeable how could that be possible to help with those two issue? And Also there are no official announcement from Google ( Please share the link if anyone find the official announcement from Google ) . I feel like if they really are the upgrade of the design, it'll be a little absurd because I don't think the tiny nubs works that way....except giving you a weird scratchy feel when you holding it.
In my case I already filed the phone back 3 times. If it is really a new design, the SC or specialists from Google would tell me instead of letting me keep filing the new replacement. In fact, I had talked with their adviser, and the respond was the tiny nubs are not supposed to be there.....
I am trying to argue with anyone.....So... peace out
So my feeling is the entire production line has some issue and no one notice it ....

If tweaked design is for the stability of the phone on flat surface, where it shouldn't slide..then i think that would be majorly for the people who do not use cases. I always have a case on so these nubs do not make no difference at all.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (March 24, 2013) - Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG)
announced today the addition of 'nubs' on its recently released Nexus 4 device. The new 'nubs' have been specially designed through the tireless efforts of our dedicated and talented engineering team here at the Android Labs (c) division of Google Inc., to drive XDA user 'Ben Chuang' absolutely nuts, and drive him to post nonsensical, and horribly written threads in which he will forever be known as a 'noob'. Stay tuned throughout the rest of 2013, as our new line of Google 'X' devices, will have an upgraded set of 'nubs'; this time, larger, and made of natural diamond, placed in all four corners, so users wont deface their phones with metal files. We have even more in store for 2014 ! Exciting times ! thank you for being a valued Google customer, and we look forward to serving you in the future ! Viva android ! **** apple !

How can two perfectly placed nubs on, not one but 3 devices, be a defect?

Isn't it coming from disassembling the case part at the factory ? that's why it has on every phone and exactly same position

Wow dude you are picky. Anyways, they DO help the sound, try sliding the phone off the edge of the table just enough to get the nubs in the air, there is a difference in the sound. Secondly, they don't even kind of look like a defect, they look like they are meant to be there. There is no funkiness or strange casting lines indicating otherwise. Third, why is this such a huge factor to you? You said you use a case anyways... What am I missing? Check your other phones, my fascinate has a bump around the speaker and so did my G1. I don't know why Google would feel that they have to publicly announce something this minor.

I happen to like my nubs

You know that the people that answer the phones for Google don't actually work for Google right? They are an answering service contracted by Google to be customer service reps so they have no real info to give u. I learned this during the great limbo days after I ordered on release day November 13th during my multiple calls to Google.

Do me a favour [NSFW or Children]

Guys, I want to ask for a favour.
Ages and ages back I read about what I thought was an amazingly cool gadget.
We like gadgets.

I got speaking with the guy that invented this thing, and was mightily impressed. You'll be able to read my review soon... but this is the gadget:
The Alpha Grip:
It's a keyboard, compressed onto a gamepad like device. The keys are positioned around and under natural finger positions, according to usage and linguistic frequency; others are positions under the controller and used with rocker type switches.
It's difficult to describe, but the thing sits naturally in your hands and you have full keyboard access, in an exceptionally innovative, ergonomic design.
And, there's more - it also has a little trackerball that sits under your thumb position, so you can control both mouse and keyboard functions without ever taking your hands off the device.
It is complicated, and takes some getting used to, but when you are used to it, it's amazingly neat and geeky. I used to play all of my FPS games with a nostromo N52, but this thing lets you even further automate your gaming, macros and keyboard layouts. It's not quite the perfect game controller, but it's damn near close.
It is wired USB. Wires are baaad.
Unfortunately, it is not wireless or bluetooth etc, which is something I've spoken to the inventor about implementing. So, it's not quite ready for our phones yet, but as and when it is, wow.
However, I use it with an OQO mini computer and it's a perfect marriage, compact and highly productive (once you master the learning curve and get used to it). I guess you could use it with an xbox 360 and ps3 too, which would be cooool (although I've never tried). It emulates a standard USB Keyboard and mouse, so is highly compatible and doesn't use special drivers.
Anyway, enough blurb, I'm not selling this thing, I'm not even reviewing this thing here - you'll be able to read a full review from me eventually (and I'm in no way commercially connected or benefited from this).
However, my favour:
AlphaGrip, the company, have superb technical support and customer care. I like the product, I like the company. But you've probably never heard of either.
So: Yahoo have a competition on right now running between various small businesses that need more attention. I think Alphagrip needs and deserves this... so, have a look at the Yahoo page, and see if you think AlphaGrip deserves a vote. You don't have to buy the product, or even like it, but just decide if it deserves some of your mouse click love to get a gadget a bit more attention.
Gracias.
Yahoo Competition
V
PS. If you do buy one, tell Mike Willner, the inventor, that I sent you. I'll try to put in a good word for us and get us a deal.
EDIT: guys, I've just heard back from Mike, and he says that when you're buying the AlphaGrip, if you say that you're a member of this forum and write your XDA forums user ID in the comments section of the purchase page, you'll get $10 off the price.
And if you also mention that you've also voted on the Yahoo competition (quote something from his video interview to prove you've seen it), you'll get an extra $5 off! Go out and buy yourself a free lunch on Mike...
He said that they are certainly interested in doing a wireless adaptor or an all smartphone compatible version, so winning the competition will help get them the resources to do that. Hurry up and click already!
Guys, I want to repeat. I don't work for these guys, and aren't commercially linked to them in any way. I've just found Mike and his guys (and gals) to be a refreshingly helpful and conscientious tech company. They don't over inflate their claims, but make 100% solid and innovative stuff.
its got my vote.. im not a gamer but love me some gadgets, can see that thing being very useful
Thanks shogunmark!
I have to say that I'm quite a fan of non standard input devices. My all time favourite is the Microsoft Strategic Commander. If you've never seen one, it's basically the thing the little dude in Flight of the Navigator uses to fly the UFO. It kicks ass, but it's a bit too clever for it's own good. It actually has one axis assigned to flexing space/time, like too much Prince of Persia!
Day to day I tend to use the Nostromo n52 (not just for games, but general productivity work with appropriate macros, keyboard hooks and Windows PowerPro - my all time favourite app)
And I've also reviewed the Wolf Claw, which is more conventional, but useful for WASD users. I'm not a WASD fan personally.
BTW, I finally managed to spend some time with the Wii this weekend. It's not a particularly accurate input device, but novel - has anyone considered porting the open source Windows Bluetooth Input Interface to WinMob? It'd be cool to play doom on your phone on the Tube. Way to get shot in the head...

My brain overheats just thinking about the possibilities... you can picture the Taewanese design manager sitting at his desk, staring at a blank sheet of paper:
"Ok, Monday morning, what to do, what to do?
We need to think of a device that has 1% useful therapeutic design, 99% obvious sexual function. We've done massagers, infra red heaters, relaxation balls...
I know, The Knobbler. Reaches the parts other double ended stimulation devices cannot reach."

Hey guys, would any of you consider using the AlphaGrip or any of the above toys, including those for external application only?
One game pad I haven't owned is the Saitek Pro Gamer Command.
I played with it once on a display model and found it tacky and clunky. I much prefer the ergonomics of the Nostromo.
Do you guys ever use these things? Like I said, Nostromo is great for FPS, but you can also configure it to do stuff in productivity apps like PhotoShop, Word, VS2005, Winamp etc (although of course you can do that with pretty much any input device with appropriate software).

HTC Sensation XL General lounge

It appears that HTC is getting in to the bigger screen scene also. They posted videos of the phone on youtube and i think it looks quite nice. I hope a carrier adopts it in the states. It will be nice for AT&T to fill in the void of not getting the bigger screen on the Galaxy S II.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QoLuoboJPM&feature=feedu
hmm...
HTC already released the Ruby/Amaze which is exactly like the Sensation but upgraded
why would they even make a Sensation XL when the Ruby/Amaze is already better & bigger?

perhaps you're unaware because of a random bout of illiteracy or because you spent so much time on that oh so witty retort, but this is the general section. The android forums are about 20 forums below this one. I know scrolling through that text on your android device will remind you of how laggy it is but I suppose that's the price you pay for battery sucking live wallpapers on an OS about as innovative as winmo 5.
Everyone of your posts are exactly the same and you never have any support. No one cares what you have to say, seriously. Just remember, in today's society, majority rules. I really don't give a sh*t about what OS you think is better. I am a firm believer that each OS has its plus side, and different OS's are for different people. The problem that I have here is that you come off as a complete douchebag and say stupid sh*t just to start arguments.
Perhaps I should clarify my reasoning. When the Titan was first mentioned with specs and all HTC was promoting the fact that it was hardware exclusive to wp7, we held that hardware exclusivity for what? 3 days? HTC wouldn't exist if not for winmo and now they **** in Microsoft's face, that's annoying to say the least.

Well, to be fair, MS shat in their face by foisting such a poor selling OS on them, denying them the right to improve it even a little bit, then gave that right to Nokia.
None of the manufacturers take WP7 seriously, it's just a price they have to pay to produce more popular phones running Android without having to pay MS as much.
Still, it gives them a small pilot group to beta test hardware with before developing it for their real customers.

Nokia, developers of the most reliable hardware on the market seem to take it quite seriously and honestly once that ship is afloat I'd see no reason for Microsoft to waste times with any other OEM outside of perhaps Samsung as that partnership offers virtually unlimited possibilities and an unrivaled patent catalogue. No one hoisted a poor selling OS on anyone, Microsoft offered a device that is on par in most categories and even exceeds in some with iPhone and blows android out of the water. The biggest issue is fanboyism, people have invested too much in iOS and/or android and Microsoft is late to the market, however their entry is not invalid by any means.

Lets look at the facts shall we?
In order to sell Android handsets without being taken to court, manufacturers have to pay MS, MS have agreed that if they make WP7 phones then they don't have to pay as much to make Android phones. In some publicised cases it's $5 a phone, sell a million handsets and you've made an extra $5 million compared with if you hadn't entered into the deal with MS.
Microsoft had a market share of just 1.6% at the end of Q2 of this year, compared to 4.9% the year before (WP7 only making 3% at the end of 2010 so in 6 months since then it's share has nearly halved). To make that clear, fewer microsoft phones were sold this year than last year, which means the majority of those who were using WM are either sticking with them or have deserted MS due to WP7 not being what they want.
So to recap in simple terms:
Making a few WP7 devices saves a significant amount of money when considering the numbers of Android phones manufactures are selling instead.
The abysmal sales of WP7 make it clear that that it is poor selling, and as we've discussed in one of your other troll threads you can't even blame cost difference as WP7 devices were priced on a par with similar spec'd Android devices.
Actually, either way they pay, they just have to pay less if they also sign on to make windows phones. As for the market share decline, my only reply can be "duh!" at the end of quarter 2 wp7 was not a worldwide OS, it still isn't and is only now being released to a lot of major countries. Statistics are saying that by the end of q4 we will be in the mid-upper 4 percent, of course this is speculation but a number of the people who are paid to predict this kind of crap are coming up with the same numbers, this would be a hell of an increase in comparison to androids first year but then again if android hadn't beaten the iPhone to Verizon then android would've likely been scrubbed out by now. I see more wp7 devices in public daily and when windows 8 comes out and we have all that sexy integration I don't think there will be any reason to use another OS.
Really people? You managed to make a thread about the Sensation XL into a WP7 Vs Android discussion. Kudos!

Instagram-->iPhone users hate us

http://www.buzzfeed.com/katienotopoulos/iphone-users-disgusted-by-android-instagram
Check out that link.
First of all instagram is a disgrace to every real photographer in the world who actually spends time editing pictures to look better instead of just tossing on a generic mask. Next how can one group of users (namely iPhone users) actually say "Yuck" and "ew" to another group of people being able to use the same service. I dont see anyone who owns a BB saying "Man Android users getting BBM is like losers in high school taking over the cool table", as one retarded person in that post said with regards to instagram on android. In fact I'm pretty sure many BB users would be happy they can BBM more of their friends, or atleast I felt that way when I had a BB. This is truly proof that idiots (I know not everyone that uses instagram falls under this category but clearly these people do) who use instagram truly do think they are better than others simply because they can upload retro looking pictures of their meals and random highlights of their day. Well guess what you can have your *********** instagram back because android has 45 or 50 apps that have the exact same functions and most likely function even better.
To anyone with an android device, do yourself a favour and download Pixlr-o-matic. Its an app brought to you by Autodesk (the company made famous for building autocad and revit as well as 3dstudio max and countless other pieces of pricey software). Its available for free on the Google Play Store and is much better than that piece of elitist **** iPhone users call instagram.
Edit: This was copied from my FB, excuse my language.
Those posts explain everything that is wrong with iPhone users. Thinking their inferior products are better because of a logo.

Sad and mildly amusing.
This post reflects my first thought:
"Neo Zargaran · Los Angeles, California
They all use "ew" is this a campaign or something? ****ing idiots."
:weeps for humanity:
I agree, Pixlr-o-matic is much better than Instagram. I just compare those two application today.

***** please. I'm more retro than any instagram user. Well I have to say I will use the app once in a blue moon, but I hate people calling themselves photogs by owning a stupid app. If you don't get the photo, search for 'Holga'

Haha im with you.
I do a lot of automotive photography. And can spend hours sifting through my pictures and editing them to my satisfaction. In fact i just finished a portfolio (Im currently in school for architecture) which showcased a lot of my photography.
And to have someone come a long take a picture on their cell phone and throw a mask on it and say its better than my pictures makes me sad for humanity. And yes this did actually happen i showed someone a final edit of a picture i had taken, and they whipped out their cellphone and showed me a picture in which they had used the effects built in to camerazoomFX.

Some things you can say:
"Can you zoom into that part of the photo so I can see the detail?"
"Wow, what a great photograph! I'd love to have it hanging in my room at 20x30 inches. You think we can work something out???....oh wait, your ****ty 5MP camera won't allow prints that big."
The only time I use my phones camera is to shoot something funny I see, or if I see something absolutley gorgeus, and I REALLY have to have a photo of it, or of my camera gear...also when drunk in bars. That's really what camera phones were made for.

[email protected] i completely agree with you, i have on my E4GT and also have pixl one u stated like that better than instagram. but these cry baby iphone users act they invented instagram and its only for them. No the creator(s) smartened up and marketed this app to android for more publicity outside of whack @$$ apple. Marketing genious IMO. BUt let the apple iphone user hate cuz android is a million times better anyway. APPLE needs to step their screen size game up.
Wow. Those posts completely put me off. Let the dumb iPhone users f*** themselves with their closed-source, terrible-screened, slow pieces of crap. What has the world come to. I dream of the day when apps are made for Android and not iOS. That'll show them "ew"
/endrage
Edit: Most of us XDA users are way smarter than the average iPhone user actually, because we rooted our phones, flash them etc. which requires skill. Skill is not defined by updating through one click to the latest iOS. Coding and devvin' definitely takes skill.
Ew. iPhone users.....just....eeeewwwww.

Most iPhone users suffer from extreme retardation. Either they don't want to learn about android and just jump on the mainstream train of licking Apple's ass and bashing android, or they are too retarded to learn.
I never understood the iPhone vs. Android fanboy wars...its the one thing more irritating than Dem vs Repub to me. The way I look at it, STFU and enjoy whichever phone you have, they're both good.

If this is the case ... iPhone users should not be permitted to use Gtalk service on their phones. And let them cry about that. Let apple create their own free email account and integrate IMs on it.
I'm still wondering what would happen if Echofon for Twitter is released for android !! **Sighs**

At what point does the Nexus 4 launch officially become a failure?

I was disappointed to find the Play store broken and then the Nexus 4 sold out when it reappeared on the day of it's "launch".
Probably not as disappointed as the people who did place an order and then didn't get their phone and are still waiting though.
With no idea of when it's coming back into stock and the busiest shopping day of the year in the US tomorrow, the Nexus 4 is going to lose the traction in the media and minds of the public that it had.
If the rumors about no stock until December are true, a lot of people will buy something else. As it is, there are already new handsets appearing (like the HTC Droid DNA) and if we see similar shortages and a similar clusterf*** on the sales and fulfillment side of things, getting phones before Xmas could well be doubtful, certainly getting a defective phone could mean no chance of a return/replacement if being purchase for a Christmas present.
I had to laugh when many of the Android blogs are leading with a story about the official N4 bumper case... and the comments to those articles are full of anger from Google customers still waiting for the phone, never mind the case.
When do you call this "launch" more of a failure to launch?
As far as I am concerned, it's a FAIL.
I guess it depends on who's looking at it,right?

Yep. Point of view is key. Phone sold out in under an hour due to massive demand? People so eager to get their hands on it they resort to overpriced Ebay and store sales. That's a marketing department's wet dream.

It's easy to sell anything out if you only have a tiny number of them
And with no system for taking orders, no information of when new stock is arriving and in some cases no shipping date for people who did manage to order, I'd say a lot of that demand could trickle away.
They are certainly making Apple look good.
Another useless thread.... It is what it is. Starting another thread isn't going to fix anything.
As far as I'm concerned, this has already been a fail for Google. It is their second time they've failed miserably with the selling of a Nexus device. They just can't seem to learn...

If you can let us know how many Google had for sale that would be nice, as I take it you have the exact stock numbers to back that statement up.
The Nexus 4 is a marketing win for Google and the Android brand. Whether we get to use or like the phone is besides the point. Reviews of the glass sealed phone have been written and published. Done. On to the next Nexus phone for Google.

Why would I need the exact stock numbers? I just stated that when you introduce very few devices into the channel, it's easy to sell out and create the impression of big sales.
Apple have been doing this for years.
Did it take Google by surprise? That a phone they've been pushing... sorry... leaking, for 2 months and got blanket press coverage - which was then sold at an abnormally low price - sold out quickly.
Man, that is such a surprise! And after the Nexus 7 as well!
The big surprise is that 10 days later they still haven't got any more stock and are about to enter the run up to Christmas, with, yes, you guessed it, no stock and no word on when they will have stock.
I recommended the Nexus 4 to three friends, one of whom dropped their iPhone 4 into water at the end of last month and was looking for a replacement. They won't wait for ever and that guy went out and bought an iPhone 4S yesterday.

I have my N4 and the failure began on the 13th when Google didn't ship on a first come basis.
The failure continued with Google's refusal to acknowledge customer's complaints and did not relay correct information to support.
I understand how a big launch works and I understand **** happens, but Google's ignoring of the issues and leaving support to fend for themselves by lying does nothing but harm the reputation of the company and hurts the consumer.
I know I will think twice about ordering from the Play store again, I didn't learn my lesson with the N7.
Love this phone !!!
Only ones that are calling it a fail are ones that didn't get one,and tell the truth ID prob be right there pissed off 2 if i didn't get mine , but as soon as they become available agn those people will be first ones right there buying one . Google didn't fail Google did it exactly like they wanted to , its Google they do what they want

I would be, because as I mentioned above, I recommended this phone to other people.
Almost normal people.
You know - the kind of people who don't sit next to their browser hitting the refresh button 20 times a minute.
It's quite normal to sell out of a new device at launch. It's less normal to then have no stock for 10 days and no information.
(Although I grant you, it's quite normal for Google to not give information).
Sold out. Good phone. Therefore not a failure imo.

Update on the launch:
Friends,
A lot has changed in the past 24 hours. When we announced the launch of the OnePlus 6T on October 8, we were convinced our timing would allow us to maximize the amount of people we could reach with our message. That changed when Apple announced they would be hosting their own event on October 30. We know the entire industry and all media will be holding their breath. So, imagine how we felt when we learned the date of their latest event. One minute, we were preparing for our greatest and most exciting launch event yet. The next, we were posed with a difficult question: “What do we do now?”
In any pursuit, you can only play the cards you are dealt. We were dealt a pretty bad hand. Our challenge was to find a way to make the most of a bad situation. For months on end, hundreds of people have poured their hearts and souls into creating our best product to date. Our goal is to make sure it gets the time and attention it deserves.
We couldn’t make this decision on our own. For hours, we talked to our press contacts to gain insight into how Apple’s announcement could affect the launch of the OnePlus 6T. We received considered, honest and thoughtful feedback. They showed us that if we chose to stick to our original timeline, launching the OnePlus 6T on October 30, we would be overshadowed by Apple.
But, we know the most important voices are yours – our community. We talked to some of our most loyal users, knowing we could not make a decision of this magnitude without your input. Because we know you would be most affected by this change. Flight tickets have been booked, hotel rooms reserved, and plans made. Internally, we were incredibly divided on this decision. We debated for hours before we came to one of the most painful decisions we have ever made.
As ambitious and passionate as we all are, we have to acknowledge the reality of this situation. There are no winners here. Over the course of almost 5 years, we have been proud to witness the rise of one of the most passionate and powerful communities in all of tech. But, we have to remain realistic. We have only just begun our journey and cannot afford to let one of the most important products in our history be affected by another great product launch. So after deep reflection, we have decided to move the OnePlus 6T Launch Event in New York City to October 29.
We are moving the event a day early so we can all experience the latest technology, together. To those affected, we know sorry isn’t good enough. So, we will do everything in our power to make things right. Starting with those of you who own a ticket, but won’t be able to make the event. Everyone who owns a ticket will be able to apply for a full refund for their ticket.
If you’re still able to join our event, first of all: Thank you! We will cover any costs you might incur to change your plans. If you need to pay to move your flight, we’ve got your back. Same goes for those of you who booked a hotel or made other arrangements. Our team will be getting in touch with all ticket owners individually to help you out.
We hope that you will understand our decision. If you are willing to help spread the word and make this our biggest event yet, we would be incredibly very grateful if you could share the news with other OnePlus followers. As we continue to grow, we will continue to challenge this industry together. We can’t wait to unveil the OnePlus 6T. It'll be a big week in New York. But, we’re ready to Unlock The Speed – hand-in-hand with you. Thank you for supporting us! See you October 29, at 11AM EDT.
OnePlus Team.

Amazon is the official seller for OnePlus devices here in India so everything i posted is legit. I have already shared the amazon link for the offer.
Do you know anything about the T-Mobile venture? Will it affect people like us who want unlocked bootloader's?
Will the in-display fps be fast enough...?
I've heard that it'll be an Optical reader and not an UltraSonic one.
Aren't optical readers slower?
Hearing rumours that it's gonna have THREE Cameras at the back.
I wanted to buy the RED color 6T. But, sadly OnePlus releases other colors like Red after 2-3 months of launch. Cant wait so long

No it has 2 cameras. To be honest, it doesn't make sense to have multiple cameras unless you have software to use it. Best example is Google pixel series. Even new mobiles are struggling to match it.

I'm going to buy one at the beginning of December. Really excited excited about it. TBH it's the best thing to buy with stockish Android next to a Pixel. I'm just hoping for some improvements in the Camera department.
