modem flashing - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

can i flash my i9305 from german basebands to us basebands to be able to use 3g and 4g??

As far as i know, you can't change the band with changing the baseband. Your phone does support these frequencies:
GSM freq: 850 900 1800 1900 2100 MHz UMTS/HSPA+
LTE freq: 800 2600

Hey you might have to set the apn manually

Have a XDA IIs, can't find the 1900MHz band?

My Xda IIs shows 850, 900, 1800 & 900/1800 MHz bands. Would my update to the 1.40 rom have done away with the 1900 MHz? O2's website shows:
GSM / GPRS
• Quad - band GSM / GPRS:
GSM850: 824-849, 869-894MHz
GSM900: 880-915, 925-960MHz
GSM1800: 1710-1785, 1805-1880MHz
GSM1900: 1850-1910, 1930-1990MHz
I am in the US and using Cingular (850/1900 MHz) and sure could use the 1900 band width. So where is my 1900 MHZ, any ideas anybody?

Hi can you please tell me which radio version has the
850 2100 + gsm 900 1800 combination on it?
Thanks,
My carrier jaust changed to 850/2100
Not possible, sorry. The "UMTS 1700" option is for the e-Mobile network in Japan which uses UMTS IX (1700mhz uplink, 1800mhz downlink) and is not compatible with T-mobile's UMTS IV network (1700mhz uplink, 2100mhz downlink). The radio is physically different, and the UMTS IX radio is only available with the e-Mobile S21HT (link in Japanese).
Basically, you can get UMTS 1700, but only if you buy the S21HT, and it will only work on e-Mobile. The rest is just a software option leftover from the S21HT ROM (or other e-Mobile ROMs) and has no functionality.
--Edit
Just realized this is an old thread, so apologies for helping bump it. As for UMTS 850+2100, my impression is that it wasn't possible (only 850+1900/US or 900+2100/Europe+Asia). The only reason extra options are listed is because it's just a software thing, it doesn't change the radio. But you should check the ROM section for details.

European i9000 to work with 3G in Canada??

Yo folks. I am finally flying back to Toronto tomorrow after having been here in Italy for the past 4 years, and I am so pumped up ...
Anyways, I have got an Italian Samsung Galaxy S i9000 with 1900/2100 UMTS bands and the current baseband firmware is I9000XXJVU.
I was wondering if by flashing a Canadian baseband version my SGS perhaps would might give me 3G with Telus or Fido in Canada.
Is that something that could be done via sw or is rather something hardware involved??
Thanks
Do not flash a canadian baseband. There is no way to enable the 850 MHz band in your hardware.
However, in Toronto you will be able to get by by using only the 1900 MHz band. 850 MHz is mostly usefull for rural areas and/or basements.
So to answer your question, yes, it will work.
With Rogers/Fido, you will fall back to EDGE if you are out of the 1900 MHz UMTS coverage.
With Telus/Bell you fill loose signal if you are out of the 1900 MHz UMTS coverage.

Does the d4 use both 2100 and 900mhz 3g bands (europe) ?

Does the d4 use both 2100 and 900mhz 3g bands (europe) ?
I'm thinking of importing one or the samsung relay 4g, but do both smartphones work at 900mhz (much stronger signial here) ?
up
Not sure about that, but I can confirm you that 3G works perfectly in Spain with this mobile
Here are the bands supported.
2G Network CDMA 800 / 1900
GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network CDMA2000 1xEV-DO
HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
4G Network LTE 700 MHz Class 13
I have a Droid 4 in UK, and I can confirm HSDPA is working, but couldn't go higher than that, probably 4G is working only on 700 MHz, which no operator has in UK: hxxp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks#Europe

HELP! Any way to get this thing to work on TMO 4G LTE??

I got this as a gift for my daughter and now all I get on TMO is 3G Edge. I am in Maryland, USA. I thought this thing was supposed to support a bunch of LTE bands but I don't see many matches for either TMO or AT&T. I've tried various APN settings to no avail. Someone suggested flashing a new modem to unlock the 1700 band but I cannot find anything on that either. Am I stuck with a 2G BRICK??????
Please help!
Chris R.
Stay close to WiFi! I'm afraid that you may have yourself a '2G brick'. It would appear that T-Mobile in the US use the following frequencies:
LTE Frequencies (FDD LTE, not TDD LTE)
1700 MHz & 2100 MHz AWS band 4
1900 MHz PCS band 2 (in refarmed areas)
Lower 700 MHz band 12 (in development)
3G/4G Frequencies (WCDMA)
1700 MHz & 2100 MHz AWS band 4
1900 MHz PCS band 2 (in refarmed areas)
2G Frequencies (GSM/GPRS/EDGE)
1900 MHz PCS band 2
The only band from this list that the M2 supports is 2G 1900 MHz. The 1700 MHz & 2100 MHz band is an upload/download pair and is different from the 2100 MHz band used in Europe (the one the M2 supports), which is actually a 1900/2100 up/down pair. I'm fairly sure that frequency support is a hardware thing, it's not possible to change supported bands by flashing a new radio module.
It's unfortunate for those of you in the US that Chinese phone manufacturers seem to favour the EU, rather than US, frequencies.
Thank you!!!!!

Thank you for your brilliant and most useful reply!!! Much appreciated! The M2 is now for sale up on Ebay and I just bought a Cube T8 Plus tablet that has phenomenal specs but it too has the wrong frequency support so I'm about to put that up on eBay as well. Thanks again!
