[Q] Need help to intall Stock Email.apk in custom ROM - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Dev / Members,
I Flashed a ROM (Xperia_Z ROM for Note N7000 by AmniX). It doesn't have stock Email.apk in it. I tried to push "secemail.apk" in /system/app and set the permission to rw--r--r, apk is getting installed, also showing the Email icon. But after putting my email ID and passwords, it shows only one message "Trying to communicate with Server" and keeps on showing until I click cancel. I waited for more than an hour (Seriously more than an hour). In parallel other email clients are working but those are free and having some limitations.
My Question is, After installing Email.apk, is there any other file (probably which I'm missing) which sync with the servers ??? May be that file is missing in that ROM. I know its not a problem with ROM, as other free email clients are working.
Please Help.
Thanks

I just notified AmniX about this on our FB group. Hopefully, he will help you soon

u mean SecEmail.apk n SecExchange.apk ?make sure u put to the right place SecExchange.apk is in system/app n SecEmail.apk is in preload system if u using deodex rom.

Just Place both files on preload/symlnk/system/app/<here> and write permission as rw-r-r with any root explorer. Now reboot and cheak.

Exchange calendar sync on non-Sense rom

Hi,
I intallled a 2.1 custom rom with no Sense UI. Exchange email is syncing perfect, but is there a good way to sync my Exchange calendar ?
Push the attached files in /system/app
CorGAL -> Global Exchange Address Book
CorCAL -> Corporate Calendar Sync
I cannot get it copied to \system\apps ... es file explorer says COPY FAILED ?
It is installed, I get Forces to close ... it is a Droid only app ? I have a Hero ..
I also have hero and it works perfectly on KaguDroid and CygnaMod AOSP 2.1

Use adb to copy the files.
Adb remount
Adb push CorGAL.apk /system/app
You must have root enabled.
I installed it using adb, thanks!
I have 2 exchange accounts installed, this app only recognizes 1 exchange account (MORE -> MY CALENDARS) ... is there a way to add the other, the one he shows is the wrong one
please... can someone link me or direct me to cal.apk and gal.apk ported to work on 1.6 cyanogenmod 4.2.14.1? thank you in advance.
adb push works but these two APK's are not working on CyanogenMOD 5.0.3.5 on a Nexus One

[Q] logsprovider

So I am using a rom right now that I'm really happy with, except for one thing- I don't like seeing SMS and MMS in my call log. Is there anyway to replace the logsprovider.apk file with one that will exclude these message from the log? Thanks!
Wrong section, what rom are you running
sorry. I am actually running the 2.2 leak (JI6) that you can flash from ODIN, but I flashed Hardcore's Speedmod kernel 34A and JL3 modem and removed all the bloat. It's just branded enough (I like the GalaxyS boot animations), but it's still fast and smooth and good on battery. I just hate seeing a billion text messages in my call log!

Drop the attached logsprovider.apk in system/app and reboot.
What is the easiest way to access that folder? I'm having trouble with that part...
Root explorer
Free, super manager
Moved to Q&A as not android development
Ok, so I put the .apk in the system/app folder and rebooted. The logsprovider.odex still shows a much older date and messages are still showing up in my call log. Do I have to do something with the odex?
bump...having the same issue
Mine actually says "application not installed" when I go to install it after moving it to system/app
Pretty sure adam uploaded a deodexed version. You need the apk and odex files in order for it to work on a stock rom. I am not sure which rom the logs provider is from but assuming adam has grabbed the firmware from samsung as a starting point for a rom he would have what you need and know which.

...and it needs to be deodexed to edit it.
Besides, there's no benefit to an odexed ROM.
I'm using the Captivate with the leaked Froyo 2.2 update (I897UCJI6). In root explorer, I do have the modified LogsProvider.apk as well as LogsProvider.odex (which has not been modified or changed, etc). What do I do from here?
bump please
Drop log provider apk, in system/app
It's already there. The problem is that when I try to install it, it doesn't work. It says "Application not installed."

Do not install. Reboot. Have someone send to a text, should be fixed
I did that, too. I cleared out all of the old text messages from the log, rebooted, and they're still being listed. Someone just sent me a text about 10 minutes ago actually and it's there in the Log.
WTF???? I successfully deodexed my ROM but I still can't get the LogProvider.apk to install. It still says "Application not installed."

[Q] Write and Go (Samsung default app) for download

Hi, I´m using Darky´s Gingerbread ROM and there isn´t any "Write and Go" application.
I want this application back because it´s really easy to post something to the facebook wall. Could you please someone copy this application from the system and put it here for download for me?
EDIT: Please I need it :/ the installer apk from /system/app would be just fine

Here you go: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6524760/WriteandGo.apk
I have got it from XWJS5 in Romkitchen.
Thanks, but it seems it isn´t working for me. I get "Application not installed." error message :/
I think you have to copy it directly in /system/app/ with rootexplorer (after mounting system R/W)

I tried it, it doesn´t copy anything.
Try to download it from Romkitchen as an update.zip then flash it with CWM!
quick question Gerusz,
when i goto romkitchen, click on galaxy s, then on generate, then on the apps tab, then select only flash and go, it tells me that if i dont select a launcher my phone wil be unusable. How to i create an update.zip that ISN"T trying to replace my entire ROM?
thanks in advance!
Hey I have the same problem, using darky rom and i couldnt find this app anymore. Any solution yet? been searching for quite some time
I know this is an old thread, but just thought that you guys on darky ROM should know that all of these apps are available and installed on your phone on your SD card. They will be in a folder for darkyROM and they will be saved in system/apps within that folder. You use and always should use the darkyROM tool available from the market and it will add or remove any system app you want and it backs them up (so if you remove something you shouldn't you can re-install again) and also it does the same for user apps too. It has now been suceeded by the darkyOTA application though which provides Over The Air updates for ROM related stuff. All support and info is located on the darkyROM forums to check out

[MOD] GS3 SecEmail.apk & Exchange.apk with Exchange Security Disabled

This was cross-posted in the US GS3 forum, but I figured you international guys might want this as well.
Below are the Mail and Exchange apks for the S3 with exchange security disabled. This is for those who use exchange support at work, but who hate entering a pin or password every time they want to unlock their phone. Many of us use low-level security corporate exchanges that don't require a pin, so the apk files below remove that security.
DISCLAIMER: If your place of employment's exchange policy requires the use of a pin, please be advised that use of these apks may be punishable up to termination of employment, as well as other possible legal action. Some companies take their exchange security VERY seriously and this mod is only for those whose policy does not require a pin but are unnecessarily prompted to enter one anyway. Please speak with your IT department before using these files as I will not be held responsible for any mis-use of this app or any collateral damage that may ensue. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. In the event you need to get back to stock, I have also posted stock apks below which will get you back to stock. Download the 'Return to Stock' link, unzip the downloaded file, and then just push them to /system/app/
1) Delete any exchange email accounts from your phone and remove any shortcuts to the mail app from your device
2) If applicable, remove any exchange administrators from Settings -> Security -> Device administrators
3) Download the 'Hacked Mail apks' file linked below. THIS IS NOT A FLASHBLE ZIP. The apk files were just too big for XDA's upload limit and so I had to zip them up and host them online. Once downloaded, unzip and grab out the 2 apk files inside (SecEmail.apk and Exchange.apk)
4) Mount your phone's system as R/W (either using Root Explorer or 'adb remount')
5) Copy the newly downloaded SecEmail.apk and Exchange.apk files to system/app/ via root explorer and overwrite the older file if/when it asks, or you can just push the files to system/app via adb
6) Set permissions on both apks as rw-r--r--
7) Reboot
8) After reboot, create a shortcut if you want and then open up the Email app and set up your corporate account.
7) You will be prompted to enable security policy midway through... this is normal so hit 'OK' and it will not ask you to enable security any further.
As previously mentioned in the disclaimer, you can use the Stock apks to get back to stock if you run into any issues. Just download the 'Return to Stock' link below, extract the 2 apks out, and follow the same process as above.
Donations always appreciated. Enjoy

Same here any chance of posting a link that works :fingers-crossed:
Just tested the links and they are working fine for me. Perhaps they are blocked in your county.
That being said, here are some links secondary links via dropbox. I'd prefer everyone to use the links in the OP as flooding the links below can end up blocking my db account, but they're here for others experiencing download issues

Exactly dear Wanam...
I downloaded your ROM, extracted those 2 apks, all working fine, really very appreciate!
Thanks a lot, this seems to actually work. The strange thing is, i've replaced those 2 apk files on a stock ODEXED rom (!!!), yet it works anyway. I guess none of the other apk/odexes depend on those 2.
Thanks again

do I need to delete the odex files also after copying these apks? it's not working for me

doesn't quite work like the ones from the HTC forums.
where in you can still choose to do patter lock. after adding an exchange account.
the mod for SIII disables all types of lock aside from Pin and Password after adding an account. although you can add a pattern lock before adding an exchange account and it still works.

You do. Ive renamed the 2 original apk files along with the corresponding odex files, placing the new ones in there instead. Works perfectly ok for me. I am on 4.0.4 XXALF5, stock, odexed. Ill probably switch to deodexed soon, though, but it does work for me right now anyway.

This mod disables thr EXCHANGE administrating those locks for you, it doed NOT affect your ability to setup a lock on a device on your own, in any possible way. In fact, replacing just the apks mentioned, it technically cannot do anything to affect it.
Thanks a lot for that man. What about jellybean I be seen the exchange.apk became exchange2.apk
Is there a difference?
Working great, just needed to delet odex files
I am running the ATT version, with a CM10 preview.. will these work on my version?
there's a bug or my company admin is just good detecting this. it is able to block it

[Q] Office Client

Hi,
I flashed my phone to a Custom ROM (GingerDX v029) and realised that it doesn't has the native email client. Can anyone please hook me up to a good email client where I can configure my office email account to? Free obviously.
Thanks!
If you have zip of any other rom then get the native email from it.
Open the zip
go to /system/app and extract email.apk from there.
Hey, thanks! Did that.
But right now, I can't set up the mail.
What happens when you try to do it??
I have entered all the details correctly. It then starts checking the incoming settings and prompts with the message "Unable to open connection to server". I have tried this on 2-3 other email client apps as well. Same error.
Could it be because of the root access by any chance?
No.. thats not because of root,,
install gmail from play store and check whether the problem exists..

I already have gmail and its running properly. There is no problem in that.
Right now I am trying to set up my Exchange Account in my phone and not able to do that.
hmm...
clear the apps data and cache.
now reboot and see..

Wait. I will try that.
Same error.
The thing to note is that my friend is using the same settings, and in his phone, he has configured the mail account successfully.
hmmm....
give me a little time..
Hmmm.. okay
Anyone?
So I searched around a little bit, and this what I got:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2563324 (Issue 2.1 in this link)
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=9426
Apparently, when you flash you phone, you lose the security credentials of the phone which come attached to it by the manufacturer. Hence, you can connect to the public email ids and domains, but not to the secure ones.
This is what the problem which I think I am facing as of now. If anyone can help me install the security certificates again in the device, please do.
Maybe the only solution is reverting to stock by SEUS.
