Sense 4.1 was stolen by chun.!! [Proof] - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

So my dear friend from Chicago messages me and says do you know korea_chun on xda stole my work that I was working for on the vivid and took the Rom and used it as if it was his own..... And after a week of searching to contact chun I eventually wrote him today and here is what we were saying....
I've know this kid since I was about 5 so I believe his word

Yeah but it was my friend, whos nick name is y2j was studying venoms coding and built the Rom from scratch but couldn't figure out ril and chin fixed it.... Y2j was making it to see if he could join team venom due to his hard work and chun stole it and changed alit to make it look like he created it

Yea - that happens all the time. then they post it on the chinese forums where they don't have kanging rules and there's nothing anyone can do about it. sucks for your friend, but take a look on the chinese forum - you'll see 90% of the roms from here being passed off as someone else's work. since he didn't post it on xda, xda mods can't and won't do anything about it. fortunately this team venom code has fallen back into team venom's hands. I'd suggest your friend talk to them and try to plead his case as a reasonable, mature person. That's really all he can do.

This really pisses me off that this someone took the time to port a venom rom to our device ( which isn't very popular )and then chun steals our one chance of having a venom rom early and ruins y2j's chance of becoming a venom dev.

Thanks 24ky for doing this for me, I just decided to make a account to talk to a venom dev. and pm me, I need to know when you coming down again to Chicago..... But anyways chun really pee'd off, I had this phone about almost a year ago and I spent hours of studying venom coding to make a Sense 4 or 4.1 Rom for you guys and I started when raffyvitto couldn't get ril to work.... And I was going to present my work to Team Venom so I could bring people something good to the community ( but my wife got the iPhone and I liked it so I got one, but a year later I missed developing. ) I hear from 24ky that homeslice976 and wildchild have sense 4.1 roms out and I want my Rom that chun stole to be out, but I need a venom dev to contact me or vice versa.

Its pointless anyway, wildchild or bish (whichever name he goes by on a particular forum) is a venom dev and the only one who will be able to release a vivid venom rom
So it doesn't matter who did what or when as it relates to venom stuff cuz its not gonna be allowed on xda unless its from us

I honestly don't see why not. If ide supply the rom or you Venom members let me release it. Because for anyone who has ran my rom. ( the one chun decided to take credit for ) it is by far the best/stable rom yet, Its ready for full release, no beta testing needed, has everything a venom rom has. And wildchild blocks all u.s up addresses from his forum anyways and prolly never be released on xda.

Y2j - I understand where you're coming from.. but bottom line is it is team venoms code to do with as they please. Wildchild has non us IPs blocked for the same reason you're upset now (not to mention all the spammers from foreign IPs). Unfortunately that's what it had to come to. I understand the amount of work that you may have had in it, and I feel for you. At the same time, your intentions probably should have been made to team venom before starting the project.
Nitsuj has stated what will happen a few times in the forum..
I am curious why none of this came up months ago when the build originally popped up?
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2

I'm not attacking team venom here or nothing. Just Curious, does team venom coding have a licence. I know they have a sharing policy "that no one can use there files unless it was made for the rom.... But if someone spent hours on the rom and ported venom coding its theirs... And just because codes could match up to your 100% doeant mean they copied you, just means they are as good as you. So it wouldt besidered kanging if he change all venom files in it. Meaning changed the name where ever it says venom.....
P.s. another thing on the coding, just because he studied your coding, and makes thing operate just like your doeant mean he stole, venom work, files, or frameworks.
Sent from my ADR6410LVW using xda premium

I mean I'm not p*ssed or anything just upset because I worked my num nums off on it. Lol. If Venom devs were nice ide release it, but they won't let 2 devs have 2 seperate roms.... I mean my rom even has jellybean features on ics. And 24ky I agree with you there
---------- Post added at 05:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:49 PM ----------
And if I the codes are not in use then the coding lines are just useless space, and yeah I studied your coding but all coding is different between each device and OS. Meaning if I remove the files to make the tweaks active, then its a stock costomized rom. With the chance for people that decide to add venom tweaks app. So there for I wouldn't be premoting a venom rom, just a potentially a venom rom for those who chose to install the correct tweak app.

Xda supports our position on non sharing as much of the code is written by members of our team specifically monarx
No one told you to spend your time porting our work
We can allow device support to devices we choose and work with devs we want to work with
Not a hard concept to understand....write your own code without using our teams work and there is no problem
Removing tweaks but leaving our framework mods that are controlled by it is still kanging
Do it and we ll report it and get it shutdown
You really have a lot of learning to do if this is your entrance to the community

You were making a bizarre statement that if some takes the time to copy our code changes than the work becomes theirs, which makes no sense
People can write similar mods without copying (see lyapotas modpack for the one x)
But when someone else's work is kanged/copied its theft, not someone being as "smart" as the creator
Nothing related to modifying sense files is gpl, no requirement to share or post source of changes
Now obviously we can't prevent people from doing whatever with our work outside of sites like xda and rootzwiki which respect developers rights to exclusivity....on crap sites like droidevs or just about any Chinese forum you can post stolen work all you want
However we do actively check rom releases for kanging here on xda when someone clues us in or if we notice something that seems stolen...and hiding tweak calls or renaming methods doesn't work, as anyone with rudimentary understanding of smali and java code can spot what's what
Please let this thread die, and work on your own projects...we all know chun is a thief anyway

Oh I'm letting this go because I'm not that worried about it neither is 24ky, just we both had opinions and we said them. It's just a rom that I made it wasn't really that hard, just time consumimg. but it was just disappointing that there's nothing I can do about it. I should of presented my work before doing so. It's all good now. I'll just sit back and watch how stable sense 4.1 roms will get.... I am supprised that no one can make sense 4+ though.

That sucks that all that happened without you knowing until recently. But if you want to gain major credit you could be the first to release a full sense 4+ rom. I'm not saying that would be easy, but that would give you plenty of credit. Then from there you could possibly discuss with Venom about making a Venom Sense 4+ rom for the Vivid if you are looking to partner up with a team. I could be wrong, but as of this point it does not appear there is any current work being done on bringing Sense 4+ and JB to the Vivid (with the exception of AOSP).

The Missing Rom, Sense 1, 2,3 are more than just HTC's UI. They are the way we Interact with our Incredible. As i write this There are Dev's and Dev teams making great strides on what they feel will be the greatest ROM. I have spent many years working on car project only to find that I am never happy with it. A good projects are never finished. With all the Sense rom's you get flavors of sense. With the senseless roms you get no Sense. With this rom you get some Sense and Launcher Pro. I have removed everything that doesn't work with Launcher Pro.
This is my first shot at a Rom, I plan to continue learning and devolving.
Sense widgets gone
Battery draining apps gone
Rom zip file is less than 110 MB
Sense clock and calander still there
camera works
If you want apps install them, the market is full.

Give it a chance guys. What have all sense 1 roms done? Changed little from stock? Exactly.
Youre looking at a crackflashing troll with ORD
No offense either bud. Its just... well... how exactly did you create "your ROM" on your phone?
Did you do a nand and then expect people to flash your back-up?
I don't understand what your doing or why. Normally ROM development takes place on a computer with some knowledge of how things work in these ROMs so we can make them better. And to make them more appealing to the other users of these forums or whoever.
Simply installing Launcher Pro or whatever else does not meen you have created a ROM. You have just installed Launcher Pro to a ROM, that is all.
However, if you would like to get into "real" ROM development there are a many valuable tools and resources in theses very forums to help you get started. Not to mention the devs that roam around here as well that would more than likely be willing to pull you to the side and help you out, provided you just ask them.
I want you to pay attention to this next part ok? The name of this website is called xda- wait for it... wait for it... "DEVELOPERS" yup, xda-developers. Not xda-I installed launcher pro to some craptastic ROM and I expect people to actually use it.com
Until then friend, maybe you should try something else.

Actually no. No offense bud but I don't think any of the seasoned devs on here use the kitchen to "build" a ROM. All the devs I work with manually port our ROMs peice by peice. Less error in the long run. The only reason I have ever used the kitchen is to deodex, zipalign and sign. I don't even hardly use it for that anymore. 9 times out of 10 the kitchen is not capable of doing the things that we do to our ROMs.
Never ment to crush dreams or whatever with my first response, I just think if we are going to do something that makes changes to or effects other peoples devices we should take the time and do it right.

Does that mean you didn't flash it? We all start somewhere. I did not mean to insult anyone. But there is a gap in the Rom selections. If you really want to be a dev then start hanging out in chef central. The advice I had originally said came form captainkrtek actually was from cyanogen. I read it over a year ago when I was playing with dsixda's kitchen and thought of posting my own ROM. I posted a link below as I think its appropriate. Not sure why our dev section here isn't as nice as the Eris forum, they have a lot more info over there and being a former Eris owner I miss it.

Xda developers?

Good morning Ladies and Gents,
I'll get to the point, this is a developer site right? Well then my question is why was one of this site's best developers blacklisted from receiving his title as " recognized"? Ladies and Gentlemen this Developer has done more for this forum than anyone, he has carried the phone and I mean phone in all its forms under his wing, and made roms so stable , so fast.. so revolutionary that he has earned his stripes. He spends hours upon hours up answering questions , making instructional videos, talking on the phone or chat, for what? To make sure each persons experience with the Rom, their phone is as it should be... Amazing. I may be rambling to some, but to the others that feel the way I do , its a fact.... WILD CHILD deserves recognition for his innovations that make the phone a conversation piece, a show stopper . Ban me if you must but I'm speaking my opinion , and if that ticks people off oh well .. Bring him back and give him the title he has earned
Signed.

Why does he need a title for creating roms? Even though you don't see his roms in our forums, he is still doing stuff for the vivid/raider/holiday community.

It is about recognition. He should be recognized for his efforts by the people who run the site. He is not another poster like me, he is an actual developer and he had earned his title through hard work and endless hours of creation.

Thank you for recently applying to be a recognized developer of XDA. We regret to inform you that your application has not be accepted. But don't worry, you can still re-apply starting 1 August using this form.
We cannot accept your application because of one of these reasons:
1) you have made too few posts on XDA......(I had over a thousand posts)
2) while you are a very helpful XDA user (which we appreciate tremendously), we didn't see much actual development coming from you.(ive been releasing since the sony x1 series)
3) we noticed that you have been inactive on XDA for a long time.(I am always on here)
4) your development work has been limited to just a couple of things. Keep it up! We want to make sure that you continue to do great development work.( A couple things?? I release 5-6 ROMS with each device)
5) we decided not to accept those that make icons or themes. We realize that themes and icons take a lot of work, but we're focusing this program on those that are doing other types of development.(I dont make themes)
6) we found you to either have a history with infractions, or you might have been banned in the past for breaking XDA rules/exhibiting bad behavoir.(I had never had an infraction or a warning till this year and it was reversed since 2008)
7) most of your development work comes from an online kitchen. We encourage you to continue to cook ROMs, and to even contribute on a more substantial level to the development of custom ROMs.An online Kitchen? News to me where theres an onlie kitchen that you can cook fully functional tweaked roms)
Again, our purpose in doing this is to not set up an exclusive club, but rather to provide extra privileges to those that are making significant development contributions to the XDA community. We want you to be able to have these privileges, which is why we're happy to re-evaluate your application come 1 August.(CROCK OF BS)
Thank you for your understanding. If you feel that we are mistaken for any reason, or you want more specifics on why we made this choice, please PM me back with subject "Appeal".

You guys can make up your own minds as to these reasons which do not fit any of my criteria
WC
As a moderator I recently endorsed him being bestowed with the Recognized Developer title. This was done before we became friends, at the time when the forum was going through a lot of turbulence & all the developers were leaving.
The following comments are my own & only represent my views. Yes WC can be hard headed, opinionated & argumentative. That's also probably why we get along, we understand each other.
There are some Cooks that have the RD title that really don't deserve it.
I personally never used anything WCX before the Vivid. Since the Vivid section started having issues with rudeness & kanging I reached out to many of the developers about forming a developmental group & WC was the only person that took the time to respond. Since that time, we have become friends along with J4n87 & together things have been coming together. WC does currently participate in the xda Vivid forum. He answers questions & helps users with tutorials & instructional Videos. You think cooking a rom makes you a developer? No, it does not. For every Vivid related WCX release or rom, there are hours of work & collaboration on many items. Most of the development is done over the phone, gtalk & via email. While I never really used WCX Windows Mobile roms, I was a mod & followed most of the developers & cooks. I just read this response letter & while I do truly love XDA, I feel it is important to make comments in reply to the letter he posted.
You will find my comments below in blue.

WC has been cooking roms & developing items for the roms pre-WM6. I saw his work in the Kaiser, Raphael, Rhodium & Xperia forum threads. I think number of posts is a silly factor. Imagine if pof only had 100 posts, but all of the posts were for S-Off or CID unlock for 100 different devices. Would that not be worthy development? WC has nearly 2500 posts & has averaged nearly 2 posts a day since November 2008.
2) while you are a very helpful XDA user (which we appreciate tremendously), we didn't see much actual development coming from you.(ive been releasing since the sony x1 series)

As I stated, he has been developing roms since Kaiser at least, but also contributed roms to Xperia, Raphael, Rhodium, Inspire & HD2 forums.
3) we noticed that you have been inactive on XDA for a long time.(I am always on here)

I see WC contributing in many ways & he has numerous posts that are development related & just generally helpful, answering questions & helping out new users with issues.
4) your development work has been limited to just a couple of things. Keep it up! We want to make sure that you continue to do great development work.( A couple things?? I release 5-6 ROMS with each device)

A couple of thing? Well, most of the posts are roms, the roms all include other developments (many of which get kang'd) & each of the roms was supported & updated regularly. Unlike some cooks, WC still updates & supports older device roms. Many cooks here just close their thread as soon as they get someone to donate them a new device.
5) we decided not to accept those that make icons or themes. We realize that themes and icons take a lot of work, but we're focusing this program on those that are doing other types of development.(I dont make themes)

WC does not make themes. His roms are really stock like & made for folks that want to do their own customizations on a solid, high performing base rom. He does not just unzip a rom & remove bloatware, but actually ports items from other devices he works on & adds perfomance enhancing tweaks & mods. His roms are not flashy like some of the early RD cooks, but they work as well & much of the time even better. I also love that I don't have to have some cooks gaudy graphics & his name all over my device & boot screen.
6) we found you to either have a history with infractions, or you might have been banned in the past for breaking XDA rules/exhibiting bad behavoir.(I had never had an infraction or a warning till this year and it was reversed since 2008)

I looked. There are no infractions. There was one this year that was given in error because of a mistake a mod made & it was overturned & deleted by the issuing mod. The only thing I can think of is that I know there was a disagreement between WC & one of the flashy Cooks/Mods. While this person makes pretty roms, they always left a lot of orphaned files & registry entries behind.
7) most of your development work comes from an online kitchen. We encourage you to continue to cook ROMs, and to even contribute on a more substantial level to the development of custom ROMs.An online Kitchen? News to me where theres an onlie kitchen that you can cook fully functional tweaked roms)

This one really upsets me, as It is a flat out lie. If you go through WC's posts, you can see him starting out & inquiring on how to manually port XIP & SYS files questions about other areas of development. None of the roms I dl'd & looked at were cooked using the Modaco online kitchen.
Again, our purpose in doing this is to not set up an exclusive club, but rather to provide extra privileges to those that are making significant development contributions to the XDA community. Yes, WC does not boast about all of the work that goes into the devices he works on & he doesn't do it all himself. However, there are many things that he has ported from one of the devices in his collection to another that has been of benefit. He ported some thermal related libraries & drivers from the LG Nitro HD to the Vivid & that is one of the reasons his roms don't suffer the thermal heat issues that many of the other do. Yes, the posts just look like a rom release because he isn't bragging about the mods & that is partly out of humility & partly out of the fact that people don't ask permission & hate giving credit & just kang anything that is new.
I'd also like to point out that when I first went to the Android OS, I had an Inspire that was my gal's. I found the WCX Inspire rom & contacted WC. He called me on the phone & walked me through a few issues. He stayed on the phone with me from unlock/s-off, all the way to flashing the WCX Inspire rom. We probably talked for 90 minutes.
I'd also like to add that all of the development work I have done with the mod & the Tweaks app, probably never would have been done without WC working with me & j4n87. There are a lot of things going on development-wise for the Vivid that are not known yet & that are being developed via gtalk & email & if it weren't for a few bad eggs, WCX roms & development would be back here at xda. The WCX site is a smal non-commercial site that primarily serves a place to host the rom downloads. I would like to see him receive RD status & back here with XDA as a primary outlet for his work. Respect is the only thing I can see that is preventing that from happening. Users are disrespectful & to not be recognized for his work is just one more slap in the face, the proverbial straw that broke the camels back.
Thank you for your understanding. If you feel that we are mistaken for any reason, or you want more specifics on why we made this choice, please PM me back with subject "Appeal".

State of Development :)

For those of you that have been around these parts for a while, you may remember the State of Development updates that good ol' Gsleon3 used to update us with. These came for us at a time when development for the Vivid seemed to be at a standstill, and for those of you that were here, you remember why. For those of you who don't, let me catch you up a little (and I apologize for the bad feelings that this may drum up, but I don't want anything to get out of control again). So grab a beer and a snack, this may be a long one
It was about April, and development for the Holiday was still in its infancy. There were a few good ROMs being released, and generally, it was a good place to be. Then accusations of stealing other's work, accusations of corrupt moderators, and all around child-like behavior started, and it became the downfall of the Holiday forum at XDA. ROM threads started closing. Then came the bickering. Then the Devs left. Then the users began to play the blame game, and the "let me try to whine my way to what I want" game. All the best devs left and opened up shop in their own little corners of the internet (and I can't blame them one bit), and development for the device was no longer centralized. There were/are still AWESOME ROMs available for this device, just not on XDA. This always made me a little sad. As painful of a place as XDA (or any internet forum for that matter) can be at times, there's sooooo much good information crammed into one site that it has always been my one-stop shop, but that wasn't true any longer. I settled in, I found a home, but I kept a close eye on what else was happening across the interweb's Holiday community. I liked to keep my eye on one project specifically, synergy's CM10 project, because who wouldn't want JellyBean, right?
Now, a little more information for those of you who weren't around.. The original CM10 thread was opened at another site in July, where the project started. Syn put a lot of time and effort into it, but in the end, found it to be not worth his time to continue on a project he didn't see possible to ever be finished (mainly due to the ATT in-call mic issue and video issues), and again, who can blame him? He abandoned the project at the beginning of August. This is where mg picked the project up, and continued it with a few fixes himself, before somehow we caught the attention of h8rift. h8 has been awesome - cleaning up our trees, getting things in their proper home, and powering through anything that gets in his way It's so great to have him around.
Myself, up until October, had only ever had experience with things like making boot animations, icons, editing .xmls in .apks, and some slight .smali edits. Thanks to mg's excellent guide and a crapton of Googling, I learned out how to compile/build cm from source. Then I thought, "I wonder if I could do the same for other JB flavors?" So guess what? I tried, and it worked. Every single question I had along the way (with the exception of a few Ubuntu and git specific questions), were answered by a thread here at XDA. Cool, right?
I am very excited to see new ROMage out for this device...as I'm sure anyone who was here through the "Great Holiday Wars of 2012" would agree, I was pretty sure what we had was all we were ever going to see. Which again, would have been OK, cause there are some great ROMs out there, but I've never been the kind of dude to settle in on the same ROM for too long - that's why I came to XDA in the first place. Now as I'm sure everyone can see, through collaboration, this project is making HUGE progress! I cannot thank mg and h8 enough for keeping it going. This brings me to my last point...
I encourage everyone to participate, and offer suggestions, and share information - that is, after all, what a developer's forum should be about. The wealth of knowledge that's available at XDA is out of this world, but sometimes hiding deep within the threads, filled by off-topic chatter and users who have way to huge a sense of entitlement. Please always keep in mind that the things you're getting here are free. Hours upon hours upon hours of work go into these projects, just to be shared for very little asked in return. Wait, we ask for something in return? Yes - READ, SEARCH, and SEARCH AGAIN before posting. Like I said, there's already a wealth of knowledge here that's incomparable to other Android forums on the web, but yes, sometimes it can be trying to find that information. But it's not impossible. Also - keep an eye on the issues list. There are bugs. There will probably always be bugs. And as long as there are, they will continue to be squished to the best of our ability (though h8's ability is far beyond mine, so let's especially be nice to him )
In closing - PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not let this place become what it was before. So far I feel like the atmosphere around here has been a lot better, but I know how easy it can be for it to slip back to where it was. So be respectful, don't ask for ETAs, and be thankful for what we have - cause what we now have is a TON more options that we had before.
I remember the "Great Holiday Wars of 2012"... it was ugly, didn't even want to visit the site half the time. But things are looking up and I'm glad I didn't return my vivid thirty days after the release date like so many did.

Well said homeslice. Although I haven't been as active in my participation I got the Vivid on day 1 and am really happy to see development where it is today. There were many points I thought the device was basically dead and time and time again it was revived with new life. Hopefully the few left can make sure not to repeat drama mistakes of the past.
And great job on going from a reader to a developer, very well done.
Why is my xda premium app only let me reply/post on certain sections of forums and not development??:banghead:

i think is not fair to close a wip thread to bring a sense 4 rom to the vivid all i wanted to do is help this device users to be on the latest software as i said in the post that was closed i wasn't going to share it to everybody i want it to share it to developers to bring this rom to all users but it got closed for "kanging" which i think is not true since venom team never released a vivid rom even thou the did for rezound which is pretty similar device but cdma and korean's make their work on the rom also to make the radio work which no body here in xda could do after many tries all i want is to help the community and specific this device owners which expect more from this device and we know is capable of running this system and much more please let the development continue we are stuck right know on sense only because someone doesn't want to share their work on other devices which is ok if you are the developer of something and you don't want to share but why stop someone who is trying to help on a device you haven't released a rom I bet that many of the vivid users would like to flash a sense 4.1 rom on their devices

Sorry but we don't approve of the use of our work by non-team members and do not condone the porting of any of our roms to other devices for various reasons. One of those reasons is these roms will never meet the same level of quality and support our users have become accustomed to as such, these roms will never be allowed on xda and will also be refused Venom Hub access.

That's exactly what I want but there is a language barrier, instead of releasing could you try to make it legit here with your team? Please I know there are really good developers and they can find how to make it legit is all I ask I do not want to make an issue out of trying to help others with this device, this device is capable of running this Rom flawless just like the one x or rezound which in fact is is the same device but cdma could you help us or assign this port to one of your team members?
Or if none of you has the vivid let a vivid developer take care of it please we have really good developers here to!!

This all sounds familiar...the point of this thread...
Let's just drop it. The villec2 should get its jellybean sense+ update soon, and maybe we can port it. Or maybe we can get the Koreans to share their secret. In the meantime, it appears to be elsewhere, so get it there if you must

So, the options are:
1. We remove all of our tweaks from the framework files of a kanged port of one of our roms so that you can use it as a base
2. You find a Korean translator to ask the one who got data working how he did it.
Let's not start more xda drama the vivid forum has already been thru this. Either find someone who speaks Korean to ask to translate or have them remove all of their tweaks like they ask. The vivid has come to far now to start drama over a sense 4 ROM

I'm not been sarcastic please help the vivid users to get a sense 4 Rom up and running if you can remove your framework from it that would be awesome to use it as a base I know you and your team are great developers I'm using your viper Rom on my wifes phone and I am really impressed with what you guys have done, I never wanted to start a war here or elsewhere all I want to do is give the sense 4 option to vivid owners like me!! I'm really sorry I have caused any issues.
Happy New year to everybody !!!! I hope this mess get resolved soon !!!

You don't understand the work effort in removing our tweaks from the framework so you'll need to follow up with the Koreans.
And I honestly hope we don't see any more links to this kang roms, either here or on rootzwiki.

Donations for newtoroot to develop for HTC Vivid

newtoroot is willing to develop for us if we donate a device to him. He said he we will get the same roms that he has made for the HTC Rezound (Sense4.1ICS, Sense4.5ICS, Sense4+JB), beginning with 4.1 and making his way through those roms.
I will be taking donations at the link below. As people donate, I will update this post accordingly to show every person that donates and how much they donate to make it as transparent as possible.
Once we have enough donations (hopefully within a week or two), I will go ahead and buy a HTC Vivid off of ebay (with help from you guys on choosing one) and send it to newtoroot.
Donations to date (1/8 morning): $48
htcvividnoob: $40
davebegue: $8
Interesting I'll see how much vivid's are going for on ebay.
I'm in for it let us know!!

I know people are working on getting a Sense 4.1 ICS 4.04 ROM for the HTC Holiday line, but out of curiosity would there be any interest in gathering donations and purchasing a HTC Vivid for newtoroot? He is willing to develop for us if we donate a device to him. It would be pretty awesome to have Sense 4+ with JB as an option. Trying to see how much interest there would be for this. I assume the prices of the Vivid have gone down significantly, but haven't tracked them recently.

Hi newtoroot,
I noticed you made your way to the AT&T One XL and powered through it as usual. Have you considered possibly taking a look at the HTC Vivid and seeing if it's possible to port one of your amazing ROMs to that device by any chance?
Thanks!

There seems to be some interest from posting in our general thread. Would you prefer us to collect donations and purchase then send you the device? Or would you rather us gather donations and send them to you so that you can buy the HTC Vivid?

I can take care of handling donations and buying and sending him the device. I'm a little busy today but tomorrow I'll take a look at setting up my paypal account for donations and will post more details then. If someone wants to find one on ebay that looks like it's in good condition for a decent price in the meantime that would be great. I've seen some on craigslist for around $160 but from what I understand ebay is a safer route since there is some accountability in case of blacklisted ESN (swappa does not have any HTC Vivid's listed currently). Once we know roughly how much it will cost we can see how many people are interested so we can figure out how to split the bill.
I love to see jb sense 4 on vivid
Please, if someone can do this will be fantastic...:good::laugh:
why not just see if someone can port a sense 4 rom? we just have to ask the dev hell some even put they dont care if you use their rom we just have to port from the sensation

Devs of vivid tried to port it from various ways, but they failed. Even if sense 4 roms got ported from sensation to vivid, making RIL work would be so much difficult.
Speaking of sense 4, I heard that the developer of sense 4 rom, chun has suffered from too many request PMs. Some of them were even mistranslated to Korean with google translator. He was really annoyed. Anyway, he said that the release will come soon with Leedroid tweak and much stabilzed kernel. Please, if you want to see the first sense 4 rom for vivid, let's thinks that he has his life. It will come eventually.
p.s. : He is in his vacation. He said he is enjoying skiing.
p.p.s. : However, porting sense 4+ would be different story. It is now JB, and therefore, it needs so many different drivers, and modification of framework. Even if we port sense 4+ roms to our vivid, and make it booted, RIL would be broken again.
On the bottom line, there is a saying that 'the more, the better.' I also hope newtoroot comes to our vivid, and show us some light.

this is good. if he needs any help he can always ask us on here. it will be okay since we will not be using those tweaks
Posted an update in my first post on this thread. Donations open, let's see if we can make this happen this time around.
If no more donations come in within the next few days I'll be pulling the plug and returning the donation. So far only one person has shown actual interest.
Just wait for chun to be finished with his rom. get a dev to message him and ask to use his source and build a jellybean rom from it. shouldnt be that hard, if RIL is working, i cant see how updating it to jellybean will break it, it still uses the sense framework.
Donations closed and are being refunded. Hey at least it was given a shot.
Ah dammit
I just found this thread. The Vivid (well Velocity) is currently going for US$190 new here just now, branded to Telstra (so 850mhz 3g) but carrier unlocked. Is that any help?

Well considering that the total amount of donations (minus what I was going to put in) was $8, I kind of gave up on it. I'm not going to donate $180 myself (I was planning on stretching myself, but not thaaat much).
I think it would be epic to have newtoroot dev for this device. I don't think we'll get JB Sense (4+ or 5), at least not for a year plus. As cool as it is that WC is getting a 4.1 release ready, I'm not aware of any plans past that.

Would like to start a development group

Thinking of starting a development group wondering if any devs out there would be interested in forming a team getting some build servers and seeing what we can come up with feel free to post or pm me any questions or inquiries you might have.

What is your plans? Custom ROMs?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
really im up for just about any thing my plan was to get the people who would be interested in a chat and then see what we could all agree on but yes custom rom was something i did have in mind.
I think that write here is better than chat because others devs can follows our ideas and maybe join to us. For organizzation stuff i agree that hangout is better.
I would like integrate to Stock ROM some CM/Omni features in a way close to Cataclysm do.

By stock you mean Aosp right? My idea start with aosp base and then just merged in features we want. I also want to provide a custom skin that would be unique to us. Also i said hangout so we dont have to wait a day between responses we can hash things out more quickly over hangouts then just update a thread as needed.
PS: looks like we got another person interested i asked him to post in this thread so we can have every one interested in one place
Hey guys hi
Well I assume I'm the other guy ? Hah well I'm interested in graphic designing and I'm sure I could help you guys out
I had the exact same idea
I was thinking AOSP base as well with merged from cool featues from custom roms buuuut as a twist a major visual overhaul maybe? Like change a bit in the ui rather than sticking to all the other lolllipop Roms I can't exactly help in developing the ROM ... But changing the stuff in ui and theming ... And graphic design ( wallpapers and other stuff) :good:
Hope to speak soon
Yes ur the other guy or the meat of the sandwich lol and its like you can read my mind its exactly what i want to do

FINALLY!
I have been on a un-official XDA hangouts since the past one year and later it turned into a WhatsApp group. I've been pestering everybody on that group to bring in experts in all fields so that all of us together can cook something up. It didn't happen there, but looks like there is a chance for me here. Would love to join your creed. Please give me more details.

Hey man, u still looking to put something together? I have lots of experience, java, c++, python, core android development, and have been a contributing member of XDA for years, I took a break for a while, as I was getting my bachelors degree in software development, but I'm looking to get back into something, and it's always easier with a team behind u, I wanna do something original, not a blatent copy of all these other ROMs out now, let me know if u want a solid asset to join the team...
Hey I don't have professional experience or a ton of knowledge about development. But I am learning a lot and have made a layers theme
