Android Desktop OS - Android Themes

Some of you have been following this for a very long time, you have seen the changes and many alterations I have gone through. But now, Android on the desktop has reach a very serious status about itself and it is turning into a powerhouse beast of an OS.
Let me start by saying that Android Desktop does have an official name, we just have not released it yet, so for now, we are sticking to Android Desktop OS.
I am going to be short and clean about what is going on. What we are doing with Android is nothing short of damn amazing, we have turned Android into a 64 / 32 bit, Intel and AMD powered, rebuilding from the ground up, new feature rich, all app redesigned, new kernel, synced platformed environment, with a lot of new things which will be added in the future.
Me and the lead developer have been working and mapping every corner of this out for well over a year, every small detail, every brand new thing we must add to Android, adding all new systems and mechanisms to bring out the full power of a desktop.
I must state this as strongly as possible, this is not a patch, not a port or any bad attempt by the likes of which others have done. This is the real deal, real power, real love and thought put into this OS. Totally rebuilt in a way no one has thought of yet. Every default app has been redesigned for the desktop, all UI, all screens, notifications, settings and everything are beautifully redesigned to burn your cornea when you see it.
The kernel is a powerhouse. This will do partitions, read HDDs, SSDs and other drives properly, newly implemented mouse and keyboard systems and just so so so much more that we have planned for this, things I can't even talk about.
I just can't wait to have you see what is coming, this is about to change so much in the tech world. I repeat, this IS the real deal.
I will leave you with some teasers of what is going on, just to pique your interest as well as I can, also keep in mind there are a lot of things not show for particular reasons.
And last but not least, we are always keeping an eye out for serious developers who are interested in building the future.

lol it has been a long day so I cant tell if it is sarcasm or not xD
But, I never offered to send it, not sure how, and they probably wouldnt even look at it honestly, unless someone can show me other wise.
I would love to have it as an full fledged Desktop OS, I would ditch Win 8, even though I like it.
I tried to fix the youtube video, proper tags and all, but it keeps messing up, no idea what to do.

And there is operating system called linux..maybe its just like distro..

Sarcasm? No. Why You thought that? You're wrong.
Maybe you can a build theme system for Windows 7 /8 or for Linux?
Easier way at all.
I want to see design like yours in my desktop.
Do not put Web address in normal URL options on post, in the editor of post, must be a option to put dedicated YOUTUBE URL. (I don't remember how exactly it is, I am far from computer)

stupid google, use this, android with this look for desktopnis better than chrome os, + you could use all apps from market, buy them, better than no apps in chrome os, i would love a skin like this for windows, or an android desktop system, mobile browsers are better than windows browser

I apologize then
If I knew how to theme, I would, but I am definitely offering someone to do this for Linux or anything else. I wish I could do more with it, but all I can do is photoshop pictures together.
I am messaging those that work at google on GooglePlus, lets see how this works.

Very impressive all the best for your hard work. Liked it and hope others will like it as well.

Yeah thats what I dont understand, android is beaming left and right, has alot of potential and they do a Chrome os
As I said, if I knew how to write code, I would blend a Linux and Android x86 type together, allow some Windows files to be used, well mainly games and what not, but still.
I wish someone here on XDA could pull a group together and start this, I would lead the art idea side.

Am I allowed to bump this?

Willing to start
first off, sorry to bump the thread :/. So as far as i know the apps on a android phone work on a java platform, so technically you could take the android tablet OS and convert it (i know that's not easy) to desktop, and kick win 8 ass. However its java, its process intensive and not the most fun.

This looks really cool... impressive and amazing... *speechless

They are working on that AIO pc thing with the new haswell chips. Which I am hoping isnt the mobile chip, instead the desktop chip. But I think that stands at like 10% and there was a rumor that (not acer) but there would be Android laptops sometime this year, you will just have to google that one, but if so, it could mean that Android will get off of arm chips or whatever it is on.
Edit: Nvm here is the google link for android laptops.

If anyone would like to start up this project email me. [email protected] I would really like to see this beautiful idea come to life. I think if we look at android 86 and fork there os.

Wow, they finally got around to basic functionalities after three years. Functionalities that Symbian and WinMo were doing since forever. Very revolutionary and magical. Color me awed.
Just about the only thing Android needs to do to "catch up" is a better multi-tasking UI. Then again, considering the iPhone OS 4.0 will handle a grand total of seven tasks--as opposed to Android showing the last six apps used--well...

Nope, you're not. However for the masses, this update will be very well received. Yes its ridiculous that they took so long to incorporate multitasking and folder functionality, but better late than never.
I was disappointed that there wasn't any interface change, the icon grids seem archaic. The iBook app will be huge. Overall, I think this is what most people were expecting in terms of a software update. The real big news will be whether a hardware update will accompany OS4 (unibody iPhone would be nice).
For now the Nexus still has an edge but the gap is narrowing

Yeah. I was thinking of the big things they could do on the hardware side, but I'm not entirely sure they want to split their market up. People are still using the iPhone 3G, if they do a massive upgrade on hardware, app developers will have to verify it works on 3 different platforms.
Maybe they are just planning on phasing out the 3G completely by next year (considering they were hinting at the lesser features for 3G's OS4), and then using the current 3GS as minimum spec. If they increase screen resolution, they'll have to write some scaling processes as well (a lot can be seen in the iPad)
They dropped the bomb until they put this dud out.
I own a bunch of Apple devices and Ive had an iPhone before. Im not a hater, I just dont think it's cutting edge anymore. I even have an iPad so you can't say Im an apple hater
Is just another iPhone... but still Google needs to get their act together in a few areas. I borrowed a N1 for few days and like it very much, but I have been reluctant to take the plunge because of the following shortcomings:
Google needs to allow Contacts, Tasks and Notes to sync to the N1 (locally and remotely) using Google apps. It also needs to either enhance the Calendar application or make it play nice with Outlook desktop calendar functions. Me and whole bunch of other people I know, are very comfortable with Outlook to manage their email, time, contacts and tasks. Help us migrate to Android and to the Google apps without so much fuzz. Don't leave it to third parties. I don't want to risk my critical data to a vendor that is here today, but might not be here tomorrow. I'm not very happy leaving all my critical data in the cloud, but if I'm going to do it... Google needs to help me get there. Security and the integrity of my data are important. I have confidence in Google, but not on third party vendors for this critical step.
The Music Player needs enhancement and a Google desktop application to manage one's Music Library and multiple playlist is needed. Most decent portable DAP have such application. Maybe Google can partner or acquire a vendor that knows how to do this right.
Just like the new iPhone the inbox of Android needs to be bit more friendly with other email service providers. As with the new IPhone OS 4, multiple Exchange servers should be supported along with the option to have multiple and merged inboxes.
I wonder if others feel the same way. I also know that there are other issues that need to be addressed, but in my case the top two are very important.
The soul purpose of this device is not meant to be a music player, Google does not (and I highly doubt they will) need to create an entire desktop application to move mp3s to the music folder where anyone with the right direction can do this. Managing playlist though is a different story, but I guess it is up to a third party application to do this.
Get a ipod or other portable music device if this is your wish.
Also, tamanaco, I believe Sense does most of what you said. Don't believe the Nexus is a very friendly business device...

I agree with you in that there's no need for them to boost their specs at this point, but I was referring more to a cosmetic facelift. The iPhone has pretty much looked the same for 3 years now and I think even Apple fanboys can agree that everyone is tired of the design.

So, if I understand you correctly... The N1 is "not" a Music Player... is "not" meant for business... and as you say is "not" for me. So, in your book it's only good to make calls and find yourself on a map? It's called a "Superphone"... What's else is it good for?

This is not an excuse IMO, the music player definitely needs an update. This is the one area where iPhone has a real advantage over Android. Most users would rather carry one device for everyday use, I know I certainly would.

You know I love WP7... so I bought an HD2

[Edit: HD2 at home]
Hi! I just wanted to let you know guys that I'm moving to WP7. I love WP7 (so I made NOVA WP7 theme and the WP7 themed Apps) so it had to happen some day.
I found a xda Marketplace user who was willing to trade his HTC HD2, the phone I will always love, for my Black. We were up to do it, until my parent decided to get me an HD7 to avoid me doing a phone trading on the Internet (pretty risky).
It's not an HD2 and I won't be able to have Android on it, but it's its brother and won't make me spend hours trying new ROMs: I have to study now and can't waste my time so hard.
I will be here until I get it, and will keep the Black at least until I receive the HD7, then I will try to sell it.
I guess I won't make it to see ICS LOL (neither do you ) Hahaha sure CM9 will come soon.
Not saying good bye yet, just an "I'm leaving soon".

That's what I love. Plain simple structure. I have my ROM fully customized as WP7 since some time ago. That must be a signal haha
I'm just tired of the unstability of the Black, battery specially. Always draining with no reason, can't trust it... although I love my Black. I will keep it for a while so... I can always go back if I don't like WP7. But I think I'll love it

Yeah, we must be on the best-devices-without-proper-development top of forums. We had knzo over all but he didn't even named himself developer if I remember well (his dedication/studies aren't informatics). It's a hobby for him, although he is great and the best we've had (@knzo, you know you are the best Black dev! )
I'm sorry I'm "leaving", but this forum has been being more dead every day, and anyway, I don't have time to mod anymore. You've seen I stopped theming and I said many times I need all my time to study now. I appreciate your words
I love the N9, but I know that if I go there, I will cry because of lack of development. WP7 isn't as expanded as Android, but at least there is a considerable community. Even HD7 has like 6 or 7 ROMs LOL! (no big changes, but anyway). And the Lumia 800 is new and apart from few bugs I've read (every phone does), I found the HD7 at great price and I don't like spending 500$ on an unlocked phone like Lumia. I can but I never liked :S
And remember, I started this thing yesterday in a opportunity to trade it for a HD2. So I'm doing this "buy first, then sell yours" thing because trading was too risky (parents said, and that's right). It's an independent kind of trading LOL and I finally decided for HD7 because HD2 would keep me testing Android, Meego, WP7,... and I would lose my study time. I guess I just need a working phone. The less it can be modded, the less time I will waste.
I'm not selling Black until I'm sure HD7 is the next step. This is what this method allows me. I don't need to sell the Black neither, but it would be pointless keeping 2 medium-high-high level smartphones that are losing value every day.
But thank you.

If you compare the picture with the real one, there are differences, although in Android I think this one looks better than any other ****ty WP7 keyboard I've ever seen for Android (IMHO)
I never liked any other Android 3rd party keyboards...
Hey! Congrats on your new possession.
Even I was thinking of buying HD7,but I went for LG OB.
Its was mere coz of the battery, HD7 has a 1230mAh battery as compared to the 1500mAh in LG OB.

Yeah I read about that but with Mango it's fixed I think. One thing I like of WP7 (apart from its beauty) is the non-fragmentation of the updates, so I hope I don't have to feel disappointed again for not having the updates
I guess I will have to get used to its closeness, just as I had an iPhone LOL
Wow, I thought I'd be the only one to have made the change hahaha xD I switched my OB for a HTC 7 Mozart. A single touch and all the facebook, twitter & linked in profiles of a contact is linked together, very convenient in my point of view
And yes antonio, you are right. There is Whatsapp now and many more apps in the marketplace ^^
Though I don't own an OB now, I can't help but come back here to check things out. Any new development still excites me in a way

I know I won't be able to make mods and theme anything I want, but on one hand, all I themed has been to make it WP7, and on the other hand, I don't have time to mod or try mods anymore. Just need something stable and closed so I don't get distracted
Is WhatsApp decent without major bugs? I just need texting, no need for complicate things like videos or location. I've read it's pretty buggy yet
Thanks for sharing your experience!

No problem! I admit to be an 'avid mod tester' myself That is why I'll still recommend android to my friends. But WP7 do have mods to try out as well, just that the process is complicated. :/ So I believe it will help in getting you focused on your schoolwork xD
Yeap, it hasn't crashed once on my phone. ( I've had it for a month). Sending/Receiving texts or pictures are quick. Just fyi, location services are pretty solid as well. Videos on the web might be a bit of a hassle since flash is not supported, but since HTML5 is going to be the new standard, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Main thing that bothers me, is getting use to the thickness of the phone. Since I've been pampered by the OB's slim chassis xD

Black is a great affordable smartphone. I love it, but you all know I'm a WP7 lover. In fact, I bought my second Android (Black) because 1. I love Android, 2. It was at great price at that moment and 3. WP7 didn't have Whatsapp. Now it does.
No idea. But if I can't install apk's from browser... what else should I be downloading at? LOL I guess I will be able to long-press a picture to save it :S Haha not the biggest problem.
It's said that WP7 keyboard is the best/one of the bests. Actually, you should see my Android keyboard, it's a WP7-modded I made (never published). I love it LOL. Here it is:
If you compare the picture with the real one, there are differences, although in Android I think this one looks better than any other ****ty WP7 keyboard I've ever seen for Android (IMHO)
I never liked any other Android 3rd party keyboards...

Sorry

my feelings towards iOS after 3years on andorid

i had a legacy of android phones, mainly htc models (even their tablets) and allways i thought that ios is a sh*t that cannot be modded or uses freely as android but lemme tell u, after 2 weeks of spinning around on a 4S, JAILBROKEN (!), i actually got to like it more than android. sure there are things that bug me, such as multitasking handling etc, and sure, i still use a combo of both OSes, but iOS aint that bad (only after being jailbroken), the things i have found at Cydia are beyond my imagination, compared to android, a jailborken iOS device can be more freely customized and used than a rooted android,, so yeah.. it is kinda an awkward period for me now..
Mod edit: Aaaaand this is my cue to close this now derailed and fail attempt to troll these troll.
Sorry mate...did teh deed for teh good of the forum and for teh LULZ.

Here's how I see it.
Jailbreak iPhone to be able to install 3rd party apps.
VS
Toggle a setting on a stock Android phone to install non market apps.
Win Android.
Jailbreak iPhone to add features and themes
VS
Root Android phone and flash a custom ROM to add features, themes, custom Launchers etc.
I still have to give the win to Android.
I really don't see what the point of this thread was if the OP wasn't trying to stir up a ruckus since it's all a matter of opinion anyway. Use whatever works best for you.
OF COURSE the ability to side load apps and change the icons on your "appdrawer" gives you more freedom than:
Custom roms
Custom Kernels
Overclocking/Underclocking your CPU
Ability to edit system files
100% control over your phone, etc etc
Yeah you are....right...

Thinks in Cydia are not really mind blowing. You have a bunch of themes and emulators and stuff. Android still has more customization.
Cydia has a couple of nice apps and tweaks, but it's not close to Android's tweaking capabilities. I used to tweak my iPhone 3GS back in the days and i had a lot of fun, but you'll hit a wall after some time, and there's not that much more to do.
- File Manager - Check
- Themes - Check
- Widgets - Check
- LS replacement - Check
- Notifications tweaks/addons - Check
- Other minor tweaks - Check
But after i was finished installing and tweaking stuff there wasn't that much to do. The thing Android has that iOS doesn't have; is custom ROM's. If i'm sick and tired of TouchWiz, i'll flash CyanogenMod. If i'm bored with CM i'll jump to MIUI etc. There are a lot of options in the Android world, and iOS doesn't offer that kind of options. Still, it's nice that iOS users has Cydia, but i left that ship a "long" time ago - and i really don't miss it. I need mah ROM's damnit!

Yeah, this doesn't make much sense, especially the customization bit. CM and others have theme chooser, MIUI has the Themes App and Toolbox, and even stock Roms have multiple launchers that allow quick changes of icons and other bits. We won't even discuss having amazing widgets for free that cost anywhere from $3-10 on Cydia and don't have the same level of functionality.
Let me know when you're able to toggle any settings you want from your lockscreen and homescreen. Also, hit me up when changing notifications is as simple as long-pressing music and sound files.
Jailbroken devices certainly have more ability than factory counterparts but are still behind even stock Android phones in so many ways, let alone a rooted or Rommed handset.

Interesting indeed. I think there's a lot of potential for cyanogen. But I don't think they should consider changing their name. Millions of people already know the name, I think it would be less consumer-friendly to change it.
CM
Personally I'll stay away from CM if they restructure their GPL's and don't keep it completely OSS.
If they stay FOSS i'll be very happy with what they are doing. I Just don't beleive that they'll keep it open.
But I would never buy the Oppo hardware that theyre going on.

agreed, oppo has a neat new device but not giving your users expandable memory and a removable battery is like shooting yourself in the foot when it comes to android. with the limitless possibilities of android and the unsecure nature of most cloud storage that was a really bad move on their part. if i wanted a iphone like device then ide just download ios and run it on my s4 lol

What a minute! You can run IOS on the S4? BS!
I've never seen/heard this. And that would be a big deal.
Also they can't do a removable battery because of the back touch panel, which is interesting to say the least, but probably not practical.

no bs my friend a simple google search will give you several options from a mock OS (not really dualbooting but similar) to plain jane launchers
as far as the removable storage/battery....i would rather have a sd card and a removable battery instead of a touch panel that may or may not cause issues with normal everyday use.

Please show us some concrete evidence of this. In 4 years of rooting/romming Android devices, I've never seen this done. IOS is a closed-source OS and there's no way that I'm aware of to obtain a legal copy of the software for use on a non-iOS device, older version or not.

I'm pretty sure he's thinking of something else (maybe a theme or launcher) that he saw years ago and remembered incorrectly. IOS is not able to adapt to different screen resolutions like Android is, so even if it were somehow possible to get ahold of a copy of the OS (illegally), it wouldn't run on any of our devices because they all have unsupported resolutions for the OS. I call either shenanigans or inaccurate memory.

[Q] iOS on KFHD 7" | Possible?

Hello,
been quite a long time, since my last Android device, but now I´m back again. A few years ago I was really amazed, when it was possible to run Android and iOS simultaneously on a iPhone 2G. This is why I´m asking whether it is possible (or maybe anybody already did) to run iOS on the KFHD. The reason why I have that idea is, because it´d make it much smoother to integrate the KFHD into my existing Apple "eco"-system and just to play around.
And please don´t say "buy an iPad" or whatever... if we´d like to run our devices just as they were assembled and sold, you and I won´t be here on xda ?
Thank you

I don't mind the IOS but only IPod/IPhone 3rd generation or lower, Because they can run Android (not very stable).
One question.
Of all of you who are dissing the OP, his/her idea, and iOS itself, how many of you actually tried it? And by try it, I don't mean glance at your friends iPhone and called it crap. How many of you have used it for at least a week, integrating iOS into your digital life? I've got two Android devices, as well as an iPod touch running iOS 7, and believe it or not, I like it. Sure, I don't like Apple's walled garden ecosystem, but it's no different than Amazon locking down our own Kindles.
I digress, but my point is, don't knock it until you try it. We are a community of developers, and our main goal is to make our devices better in ways the original developers didn't. If one person decides he wants port iOS to our Kindles, who are we to judge him? Even if it isn't possible, what reason it's that to ridicule him/her?
As much as I love it here at XDA,I have to admit that I am a bit ashamed of the single-mindedness that Android is superior to all mobile operating systems (yes we have forums for some others, but still).
