Change Carrier Display Name on I9305? - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

Is there a way to change the carrier display name on the I9305/I9300 S3? I have tried all the methods online even the eri.xml file and no luck? I want to edit mine to read display Chinese characters... could this be the reason why? Thanks!

are you on a CUSTOM ROM or STOCK?
Stock: I don't think that there is the option to...
CUSTOM: yes. can be found in the SETTINGS menu, varies from ROM to ROM. But you'll find it if you go through

[Q] Can't enter settings

Tried to change app permission by changing the setting apk in the priv-app folder, it didn't work but no harm was done, after about a week I suddenly couldn't enter the settings.
The settings disappeared from my apps and if I longpress the battery/wifi or any other quick settings there's "no title found" and when I press it nothing happens.
Tried to return the original settings apk but it didn't helped.
I have two questions,
How could I harm the system by replacing a file when I'm not rooted?
And I thought I would update to 5.0 but guess that will be next month or so.. I currently have the latest uk version and I'm from the middle east. Can I switch to a middle east version for an older frimeware? I think downgrading might be a problem.
Thank you.

Not sure what exactly you did, but try the following:
Get the same FW version you have installed now (via XperiFirm tool or via download here in the forum).
Flash with Flashtool and make sure you uncheck any and all boxes from "Wipe" before doing so. That is, APPSLOG, CACHE and DATA should not be ticked.
That should bring your phone back to what/where it was before without losing any data/apps.

Just today I had a chance to flash it.
Didn't worked, guess I'll have to repeat the process but this time keep the wipe boxes checked, don't I?

If all else fails then that's of course an option, but keep in mind that this will reset your phone entirely to stock.

change hostname?

is it possible to change the device name on stock rom 5.1 without third-party apps ?
Yes, it probably is.

Need some rom suggestion / advice regarding flashing custom roms and what rom.

Few questions
1. I have sprint and nexus 6. Ideally I'd like a stock rom, but with the clear recent tasks button in the bottom, and enabled tethering, and also rooted. What minimalist or close to stock rom would you suggest? I am tired of using stock and having a pain every time there is an OTA update whereby it won't flash and having to go through the steps of editing build.prop and the sql database file to enable tethering.
2. What is the easiest way to keep a custom rom up to date. I just want it to almost behave like stock with updates easy to obtain and near automatic. Is there an app or rom that has this feature?
3. what is the difference between factory build LMY48M and LMY47Z? They are both listed as 5.1.1
4. I use titanium backup. However, if i update a rom and just save user data (when i previously had it save system data I had a problem) and after i flash restoring user data, I notice many of the settings such as my bluetooth and smart lock etc. settings aren't saved. Any suggestion to streamline the flashing process further?
Thanks for your help and advice!

you do realize that all you have to do to update a rooted stock rom is flash the system.img via fastboot, then quickly reroot(flash the supersu file)? yes, its that easy.
oh, and i backup my apps and settings through google. every time i wipe, google will restore all my apps, my wallpaper, and my system settings.
/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/ doesn't have to get changed if you just flash system img?

no. that is if you don't wipe data. you wont lose any data flashing just the system.img. you will lose SuperSU though. but all you have to do is reflash it.
Is there a TWRP for the Nexus 6? Can I go from stock rooted to CM12 & back without bricking?

Yes, TWRP is available for the Nexus 6.
And yes you can go from stock rooted, to a different ROM (CM12 if you want) and back without any problems.

Can the OEM Unlock toggle be triggered by a Factory Reset?

So a Question,
Can the OEM unlock be toggled back to Disable by any other way, other than doing it manually in developer settings?
Like from a Factory Data Wipe, ODIN Rom Install, Smart Switch ROM Install or something?
I've just enabled it, and I used a Deodexed settings apk in my rom to use a few mods. Now after a ROM update, the SecSettings.apk is odexed again, and that part of the settings is no longer accessible. So wondering whether the Rom would surprise me with a "Custom Binary locked by FRP" someday...
Thanks!
Well by Installing Custom Rom That Would not Change OEM Unlock to Off.
But I am not sure about installing official firmware about Odin.
Download developer option Shortcut App on play store and check the setting by your self.
