[Q] What happened !?!? HELP ME! - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

Hi all,
I'm a complete noob from blackberry.
Got a i9305 last nite, before I left the store it was tested and all and all looked good. Came home and charged the phone and now it won't detect my sim card. Took it back to the store and they won't honor the warranty because they said the phone was jailbreaked. All i did was used the wifi to download some legit apps and plugged it into my mac air to do some file transfer using 'Android Transfer'. The phone cannot even detect IMEI.
I didn't do any jailbreak activities on the phone (at least to my knowledge), so i have no idea why the phone is like this.
Q:
what happened?
What to do now?
What to do to avoid similiar incidents? (Should I backup my 'OS' ? how? -0 knowledge with Android)
Appreciate all your advise.

If you didn't do anything to your phone. Go to setting and in back and reset, restore it to factory which will erase all that was installed.
We don't jailbreak our devices only root and flash custom roms
Or they sold you a bad device and aren't helping you.

Sounds to me like you were sold a bad device. Unless you're omitting something, but you have no reason to do that on the internet so I reckon you were sold a bad device.

No IMEI you have either been sold a damaged phone or you have flashed stuff on it .
Highly unlikely for a hardware failure a few hours after phone is tested . Why test is it a refurb / used item ???
Return the item to the vendor and ask what has broken the warranty and to show you proof of such .
No / wrong IMEI phone will not work as a phone .
Whyare you are asking to backup a phone in other posts that is faulty ???
jje

When I first got my phone and wanted to set in the sim it didnt go well cuz I didnt push it till it clicked. So just to be sure, look if you've put it right.

Maybe you want to verify with the store what they mean by jailbreak? Sim unlocked? Rooted?
Was it a store selling 2nd hand phones? If so, it's quite hard to have any form of warranty. I'm sure there are ways about this once the experts in this forum know more about the nature of your problem.
It's quite hard for them to look into this post though, cos the title doesn't seem to help describe the nature of your problem. You could have used a title like "no IMEI detected" or something like that.

the original IMEI is 35175xxxxxxxxxx but now 004900xxxxxx0000.
WHO can tell me [email protected]@
now i can't download the Apps successfully from Android Market.
when i click the apps, they will just present "start downloading..."
yet, it won't install the apps.
i just back home from samsung customer service centre.
the staff told me that i was changed the software of the main board of the phone.
if i wanna fix the phone, i need to pay (2000 hong kong dollars ~ 255 US dollars) to change the main board and to wait more than one month.
WHO can really help me!!!
I don't want to pay.so expensive!!
Can I fix the problem??
i need your hands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did you install Froyo?
Nothing you can do. However, if you only ever used kies for updates, they shouldn't be able to do that. But your phone is under warranty, so the charge is a bit funny (there might be a charge, but it shouldn't cost THAT much)
He most likely installed froyo beta, do a search as theres a few threads and fixes for it.

IMEI is changed so the warranty will cancel automatically.
The only time i've seen when people got their IMEI switched is when they installed the leaked ROMs from Korea
if you didn't do it, then some body else did, or your got might have been swapped when you didn't noticed or something along the line
the IMEI doesn't change on its own, there is no download able android market software that can do that, as it's againts the law to begin with, and 2 it voids the warranty, and 3 you can be charged of criminal theft for cloning somebody else IMEI etc, etc
so yeah, thes no way that was done via download able software
it had to be plugged in to a computer usin Odin or something along the line, or maybe Jtagged to be able to change that sort of thing
Did you buy the phone from some body else?

[Q] Galaxy s problems

Right, im having various amounts of trouble with my galaxy s.
I bought it from my uncle brand new, it kept telling my that my sim couldnt connect to the network, so i had it unlocked. It still wouldnt work, then when i walked out of the building it decided to start working a few minutes later.
I then had to take out my battery for something then put it back in & boom, it stopped working again, now when i make calls it says not registered on network and when i try to connect it to the orange network it tells me that my sim cant connect to that network what do i do?
i see 2 options
take it back to the store for warranty (yes you bough it from your uncle, he should still have the original invoice)
or you can flash your device back to stock, and do a factory wipe
if i reset it to factory will it counteract the unlock?
the sim lock should remain
besides there is an Android Market app for free, to unlock your phone again if it does gets locked

so should a master reset sort it or? cuz i really am getting annoyed without a phone as i need it for business
do a master wipe first
if that still doesn't fix it, then a reflash via Kies or Odin should do the trick
if all that fails, then i'll take it back to the store for an exchange
i dont understand why its doing this though?
it was working around 1 oclock, then when i had to take the battery out around half 5 6 ish it happened again? i dont understand what the issue is?
its been blacklisted by t mobile, any ideas?

[Q] C6903 weird SIM / network error (with really bad timing)

Hi you all! Please help a girl in trouble!
Some time ago I flashed 3SE rom (1276-2189_14.5.A.0.242_R1D) on my phone because ..well.. the Nordic combined lollipop update took ages and I didn't wanna wait no longer.
The flashing went well and the phone worked properly. About one month ago the usb-cover came off so I sent it to get repaired.
Yesterday I finally got my phone back after three weeks and was such a happy girl. I flashed the customized NCB (1276-9897 14.5.A.0.270_R1D) to get rid of the 3-logo when booting. Then I moved all my photos n stuff on the phone... and first after this I inserted the SIM-card - only to notice that the phone does not work.
It won't connect to network. Says stuff like "invalid card", "emergency calls only". Everything else seems to be OK. I have tried a couple of SIM-cards that work in other phones, but nothing. The cards are not home cut, they are original micro sims. I took the sim lock off also, but it does not help.
I have tried flashing several roms, but still the same. I noticed that on some it get's some kind of signal strength, but on some roms it's just 0. I've flashed with flashtool and used also Sony PC Companion. But still the problem remains.
The IMEI can still be seen. On the phones package is the text SI 1276-2949.11 (FI, DA, IS, SV, NO). The phone is less than one year old.
Before everything got wrong the bootloader was unlocked. I checked with Flashtool to unlock bootloader and it showed the IMEI and redirected me to Sony's site, but I got a bit scared if some quarantee would get void. I don't remember the BLU redirecting me before to Sony's site if I have fiddled around with the phone and Flashtool..? The phone is unrooted and I would want to keep it that way. [Edit: it says "Rooting status: Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes"]
Now I am only very confused, and very stuck.
One thing that makes this crappier is that I am leaving tomorrow for my vacation, a trip that will last over one month... I really need my Xperia Z1 working and with me (and I really should be packing etc. instead of googleing and trying to figure out wtf I've done this time.... Unfortunately I really need that phone with me ).
Can somebody help, does anyone have any ideas?
And of course I have also tried the SIM cards with some paper behind them so that they would fit tighter.
If I try to put the APN manually it says that "Access Point Name settings are not available for this user".
I just tried once again to fix the phone with PC Companion, no luck.

Hello!
I can't find much to do but try to downgrade to a previous working version that was on your phone, and completely wipe everything (with stuff backed up of course) and see if the sim works, then update using PCC.
That's all I can think of, good luck and have a nice trip!
Regards,
~J2C

Hi and Thanks for the hints!
The 3-version of Lollipop worked earlier, but not anymore. Unfortunately I think it is the only version I can find from those that has worked on the phone earlier. Can't seem to find the original anywhere. I have had some backups of the phones and firmwares, but my computers got messed up, so I've lost some of the roms (and of course I have tons of other stooopid backups and their backups )
I'm trying to downgrade to some 14.3. global thingie right now, but my hopes aren't too high since I've done this already few times.
And thanks! I am sure that one busted phone can't mess up my vacation even if it makes it much complicated (water resistant, good camera, gps and battery etc.) But hey, what the heck, it's summer and I'm off duty

At least they are proper phones that actually DO work.
It's a shame I don't have any of those good ones left.
No other ideas whatsoever? Anybody? Mumbo jumbo voodoo? Rain dance?
Can you see your imei in the service menu?
Yes, the IMEI is there.
Got it fixed in another country in three days!
The service company I used first had broken some chip on the phone... Won't be using their "services" anymore.

Glad you got it fixed.
So it was a broken chip? Or did the chip get damaged when the first company tried to fix this issue?

Found a Lumia 635 (rm-975 model) on street NEED PASSCODE HELP TO RETURN TO OWNER

hello ALL!
i am an AVID android user, and have been using xda for YEARS, even contributed many things to this site, in way of help, mods, and other things, never built roms but worked closely as a tester with some big developers.
recently while riding my bike home from work, i saw a phone scattered in pieces down the street. i picked up all pieces and put back together when i got home, and surprisingly it turned on with no issue, didn't even need to charge battery.
so now, i cannot access it because it has a pin passcode(ive tried all your "run of the mill ones" Plus after a few guesses and then battery dying, , it is NOW telling me I HAVE to WAIT 2680 MINUTES until next attempt....seriously?!?! 2680 MINUTES?!?! THATS NEARLY TWO DAYS!!!!!!
anyways
i need someones help here, i am TRYING to return this device to it's owner, but without a valid passcode to enter, i cannot get into their contacts and try to call anyone they might know in order to return the device.
so if ANYONE knows of a toolkit, or command line thing i can do/use in order to remove/change this pin lock, i would be very grateful.
i DONT want to wipe the device and end up without ANY info on the owner or even anything that might help me return it.
ANY IDEAS ???
I HAD SEEN MENTION OF WINDOWS PHONE RECOVERY KIT
would THAT be useful in this situation?
or basically am i stuck with resetting the phone and HOPING something is left on sdcard that will have info as to the owner of device???

You could try to put the SIM in an other phone, he might have contacts stored on his SIM.
Also same thing with the SD Card but doubt there'll be anything helpful in there.
On WP unfortunately there is no way to remove the lock without doing a hard reset which will wipe everything except the SD Card and contacts on the SIM so it's the same as inserting the SD and SIM in an other phone, better not hard reset it so the owner doesn't loose all he has on there.
I like how you use the word "unfortunately" about there being no way to bypass the one crucial security feature of the phone... The lock screen is there for a reason! If you'd tried messing with my phone that way, it would already have wiped itself.
To the OP, leave it powered on and connected to the Internet, and the owner will be able to find it eventually. The "my Windows Phone" (or whatever it's called now) website allows the owner to get the phone's GPS location, and also to display a message (such as "please email me at <this address> if you found my phone!") on the screen. If they never come for it, then... free phone, I guess? I'm not usually a fan of "finders keepers" but there's no excuse for a WP owner not even trying the existing tools to get the phone back, if they want it back at all.
If you really want to go above and beyond the call of duty, I suppose you could check the SIM from the phone and see what carrier it's for, then call the carrier and see if they have any way to get in touch with the phone's owner...
This has likely long been resolved, but here's what I would do.
Take the SIM, put it in another phone. Check "about" to see what the phone number is. Call that number.
If you get an answer, there's your missing phone's owner with a new phone and SIM card. Let them know you found their phone. No answer, leave voicemail.

Yes you are correct, has been resolved, good tip though thank you, found owner and was told to keep device, they had gotten new one, they don't know how it ended up on side of street, but I ended up giving to someone I had worked with who was in need of an at&t device.
Thank you, and all others, for all assistance.
Ended up that the owner actually knew someone that I was working with at the time, small world huh, funny how it all worked out, was just happy to help everyone out in the end. Was just a funny circle of events that led to the device getting to who has it now.

Blank Service Menu/Mode, Unknown IMEI, and Undetected SIM Card.

Hello.
A friend of mine worked at a company that closed last week, and they had some demo-based Galaxy Note 8 phone that were unused. So I took one of them, and I'm now trying to make it work with my SIM Card.
I don't looks like it recognize it, phone network isn't available, IMEI is unknown, and Service Menu (that i tried to turn radio on) is blank (I accessed it trough *#0011#). I passed like 5 hours googling, but since it seems to be a very specific issue (the phone was probably locked for Demo puprposes.). I tried a custom ROM, I rooted the phone, but nothing changed.
I'm sorry if my question isn't that accurate and descriptive, got a real headache trying to find an issue tonight. Feel free to ask for precisions.
Thanks for helping, as always.
Demo units will not function as normal legally acquired devices do, no solution will work, get a really working device, xdemo units are exactly that, just for show
Changing motherboard won't do the trick ?
It will, but I would rather get a never opened device, besides, a motherboard will not be cheap
