1) I think is a stupid one: if I root my phone, can I install updates normally, or I have to flash them in a strange way (CMW recovery) ?
2) And if the answer is "yes", I have to do again and again the root's process (every time I do an update)? It means that every update does a sort of "unroot"..
3) And last question, it is not important, but I want to root my phone because I want to install this app that needs root.. i think is not very useful, but is great
Do you know apps that are very useful, and it need root permissions to work? (if I have to root my device only for 1 app, I won't do! )

2) yes, you need to repeat the rooting procedure
3) bucketloads of them, my favs are Titanium Backup (great for backing up apps) and Paragon NTFS (can read NTFS drives, including disks connected to OTG)
And why is rooting the phone for 1 app a problem? If you want to use that one app, go for it. Not to mention that with rooting you can remove bloatware or unnecessary system apps

You can also just flash a stock ROM without rooting, which will get rid of bloatware.
1)it should look for your bootloader(BL) is locked or unlocked ,if your BL is locked ,you can update normally via PCC or SUS
otherwise you can't update normally and you have to flash new firmewares
2)yes ,you have to root again after update your phone
3) LMT will ask your root permission ,if you are not rooted ,LMT will work with Home function ONLY ,so root is needed to run LMT perfectly
i'm using LMT too ,same reason i choose to root my phone ,CAUTION that you don't unlock your BL ,because you will lost warranty and BE2 ,so be aware of
your BL.

Sorry for the wall of text and for being a total noob and thank you for all your help !
So I've been researching all night (read the wiki to no avail too; so please don't simply direct me there) and I have some unanswered noob rooting questions questions and need general reassurance...
Basically I want is full and lasting root permissions on FRG83D 2.2.1 so I can remove system apps (twitter, amazon, etc...) through terminal commands and MAYBE a unlocked boot loader to flash a custom recovery image (Amon_RA) so I can make full nandroid backups.
1) It seems to me that unlocking the bootloader is a more flexible and permanent way to achieve root, as opposed to other '1-click' type methods in the face of firmware updates (2.3...), which would just disable root and it might not be re-achievable till another exploit is found whereas with an unlocked bootloader I can flash w/e I want?
2) Is it possible to enable root and use terminal on my n1 without some "superuser.apk" program? In order to do this would I use an insecure superboot and manually deploy SU?
3) How can I make a backup before rooting if I'm not rooted? I've been using my device for 8 months so there's a lot of stuff on there...
3a) If I can't make a full backup where can I find signed stock recovery images and boot images or updates zips so I can reflash them if I need to?
4) I believe if I superboot.img and leave everything (ROM and Recovery) stock will I still be able to receive and install OTA updates...?
4a) Can someone explain the difference between himem with updated wifi driver and not? I think himem removes permanent virtual address mapping so memory can be used for running applications. Asides from having more memory what are the tangible benefits or downsides to this? Would it make the system faster?Would I be able to multitask more apps before the system quits some because of lacking resources? Would the use of this extra memory inhibit system processes because there is no longer its own personal memory map?
4b) Will installing OTA updates remove root permission? If so, would simply flashing superboot.img re-grant me those permissions? But it would seem I need an updated superboot.img for the appropriate newer build(?). Is the development of superboot images still active and timely?
5) How important are OTAs and the stock recovery image? It would seem if I'm going to do any system moding (even just removing twitter/amazon) I should have a full and function Nandroid backup and would therefor need a custom recovery image- at the sake of missing OTAs (not important mainly because applying them would disable root etc anyway?)?
6) With root permissions and stock everything do I have to worry about manual baseband and radio updates? What about with a custom recovery image?
7) Apps2SD+ doesn't work with stock roms period and I would need a compatible custom rom?

actually you can flash a recovery image without unlocking boot loader
1. Unlocking bootloader voids warranty and it is the official way to offer you the ability to install third-party roms.
You may get root without unlocking bootloader if you're using an old build. I think there are ways to root frg91 and frg83 without unlocking boot loader), then after you get root, you flash a recovery image, and then install whichever Rom you like. Don't bother with those official release, there will always be someone to release a rooted 2.3 rom.

4. Yes, there are lots of people revert back to stock ROM just for getting next OTA.
4a. I personally have never ran out of memory on my Nexus One, I do want to multi task as much as possible, however no matter how I set low mem killer, Android still automatically kills apps according to oom value (or something like that)
4b. If you get a successful OTA then definitely root is removed, and probably your recovery will revert to stock recovery too, thus you have to re-root..
5. I'd suggest to wait for someone to mod OTA 2.3 to make it rooted, then you flash the rom through recovery.
6. You can freely upgrade baseband (it's radio, the same thing) when you have a custom recovery.
7. There are mainly two ways to App2SD, one is Froyo implementation which works with stock Froyo rom, another way is to use App2Ext which requires root.
houzuoguo pretty much summed it up. I'll add what I can.
3) There is backup software in the market that can backup data without root, although it is not as powerful or thorough as the apps that require root.
3a) You can go back to a stock ROM. I believe there is a sticky round here of ROMs that has some stock ROMs in it. I know someone with a N1 that flashed a CM ROM, didn't like it, flashed a stock ROM, and got the OTA afterwards.
5) Even before an OTA is pushed there are ROMs floating around with the latest and greatest. After the OTAs are pushed you see a lot of very good, stable ROMs based off of them with all features working properly. You can do more with the custom ROMs and recovery images than you could ever do with the stock stuff.
7) DarkTremor's Apps2SD script will not only give you better A2SD than what is built into Froyo but it will give you a few more very useful terminal commands that I can't live without. Good stuff.

1. Check if there's application named 'superuser'. Or install any terminal emulator; run it, type 'su'.

I think I'm going to superoneclick to get root; back up with titanium and remove the system apps I don't want.
From there I'll be able to flash a custom recovery if I want to get more custom.
I'm probably going to wait till 2.3 comes out cause it's right around the corner; Or did they fix the superoneclick exploit in 2.3...?
Also, doesn't Apps2ext require a custom rom that supports it? i.e. it wouldn't work if I had root and was running a stock rom anyway?
As you know there are not many kernel options for ZR as in Z you have to unlock bootloader to root the phone to flash it with CWM or any other recovery.
So this is detailed Guide to root Xperia ZR & having Locked Bootloader
1) Don't upgrade your phone to 4.2.2_10.3.1.A.2.67 Firmware & If you already updated it to Downgrade it to 4.1.2_10.1.1.a.1.310 Firmware In Flash mode Using Flashtool 9.13 (Download Flashtool 9.11 install it After upgrade it with 9.12 & 9.13) don't unlock bootloader.
2)Now Root it Using DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v18_perf-event-exploit. to root just click runme.bat. Your phone will get root access & you will get Superuser app
3)Then use Backup-TA-9.8 to backup your TA.img & save it at any Safe location for further Use ( It Content DRM Data & must be saved throughout lifespan of your phone).
4)Now upgrade your phone to 10.3.1.A.2.67 either by OTA or Using Sony PC companion & if you are unable to get upgrade don't panic just use flashtool & flash the 4.1.2_10.1.1.a.1.310 again & try the OTA upgrade. (As i do have both for Indian region but attachments will be too big to Attach here).
5)Now install Vroot on your PC & root your phone with it. Now you can see that your bootloader got unlocked but don't panic install SuperSu from Playstore update binary for it reboot your phone. now freeze Superuser from Vroot using titanium backup then update binary for SuperSu. Now convert Superuser from Vroot into user app using Titanium Backup. Reboot Your phone update binary for SuperSu & uninstall superuser from Vroot.
6)Now Use BLU button From Flashtool. on pressing BLU button Flashtool it will prompt to start phone in flash mode to unlock bootloader just do as prompted but dont disconnect the phone after boot loader just hit the BLU button to re-lock bootloader. Reboot your phone.
7)Now just flash Back-up your TA Using Backup-TA-9.8.
8)Congratulation now you have rooted phone with locked bootloader with full functionality.

May i know why DRM is important and what is it used for?
good guide. only problems are...
there are a LOT of exact same guides floating around for MONTHS already. why do u feel u need to make a new one?
also, where are your credits and permissions to share other ppls' work here?
and also, there are those easy 1-click solutions available for MONTHS already and most ppl use that now instead of this complicated method which is outdated and troublesome...
oh one more thing after i read thru it again...

OK i agree there are there are many guide for rooting but all are applicable to Z or Zl having many kernel options. not as Zr which has very few kernel option.
Try any Method except vroot on Zr & tell me which are more useful.
Even vroot unlocks bootloader so to get root with 4.1 without unlocking bootloader is precautionary because accidental wipe of Ta partition may void Warranty.
This is not for pro who can build kernel for those who knew very less about android, to avoid them all pain i suffered.
& again i joined this forum 4 days ago as you think but i used this subscribed it 4 years ago with my first X10 & used it Since then anonymously as i lost my password for cant retrieve it.
& Tell me What is inaccurate i will try it Myself.
If you think its ridiculous why you haven't posted how to Root Zr it would have saved me a lot of pain.

DRM data is Digital Rigths Management Data which links purchased data to your phone without which you cant use data u purchased. More Important without which warranty voids, Bravia Engine seizes to work properly as it works with DRM Data. & Track Id downloaded from Market will not integrate with walkman which are Sony proprietary software's.

I support this, I have done it just today on my C5503 and I confirm that I STILL have BE2, I just uninstalled vRoot Immediately because of the first post in this Thread Page

hmm... i don't get any sort of crap from that software on my PC... maybe cos i was smart enough not to just blindly click Next all the way. IE/reg/security settings are all fine (part of my job is IT security so i know when weird things come into my PC)
as for the screenshot of the superuser app "dialing home", well one of the first few things i did was to replace it with SuperSU...
what..?? I've never seen a rooting procedure which unlocks the BL... and that last one absolutely doesn't need to be unlocked for rooting ! Honestly, I've serious doubts about your intentions. Why the hell do you tell upgrading, flashing, flashing back and blabla... this is too complicated.
Get vroot or kingo root, that's all you need

I am new here and I am interested with rooting my HTC ONE M7.
My purpose is to install a certain app which requires it. (XMOD games)
Before I do this I just want to ask a few questions and I hope you can help me.
1. Is it required to unlock the bootloader? or there is an option to not unlock it?
2. Granting that I have rooted my HTC ONE, can I still get updates on my OS if it prompts me to update it?
3. I watched some videos here and learned I need to unlock and then root, is that all I need to get the XMOD games app working?
For now I am only interested with using that app.
4. After unlocking the bootloader, it says it will be back to stock settings, can I restore my backup in my HTC SYNC manager and then proceed with rooting next? or I need to unlock + root and then restore?
I want to restore my back up using the HTC SYNC manager so that I wont have to install the apps and lose some other info.

1. yes you need to unlock
2. you must be full stock to update, but rooting requires flashing of a custom recovery first, recommended is the latest version of TWRP recovery: http://dl.twrp.me/m7/ then put this on your inernal storage and flash it to get root: http://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/ you will need stock recovery back to update, however, no one is sure if the M7 is going to get anymore updates yet, its pretty EOL

4. yes unlocking wipes the phone / factory reset, so backup everything first, unlock, flash recovery, root, reboot and restore.
I need more reading to pull this off without any problem. I've been reading some nasty stuff and I need to be careful.

If you received the OTA firmware update like I did, you probably loss root access and it's now very hard to re-root. This is because Samsung updated the Knox partition and also the firmware.
What does this means?
Even if you flash an older version of your firmware, Knox partition will remain the same and you still won't have root access.
NOTICE: Root might be easy for some, but Xposed is really tricky to install on this device. Please backup all your files from your internal storage because there are minor chances your device might go into a boot loop, meaning you WILL have to flash a firmware again, this DOES NOT means you need to wipe your device, but it's always better to be prepared for the worst.
If you have no problem installing Xposed on your E7, this post is not for you! This is only if you received the OTA update!

- Install Kingo Root on your computer and follow the step by step instructions, just make sure to enable USB debugging from the developer options on your device and click accept when prompted to connect with your computer. You will have to wait from 5 to 20 minutes for the software to try multiple ways to root your device, sometimes it is really fast and sometimes it takes a while, it really depends on your firmware so if you fail to gain root access just go ahead and try another firmware from Sammobile. I use E700HXXU1AOAC_E700HUUB1AOAC_TPA and works really well, this is the firmware for Panama and it's NOT the newest one, however it has worked quite well for me. // CF Auto-Root used to worked before, however, after the update it is no longer working on this device :crying:
NOTICE: Disabling Knox voids your warranty and removes a very cool feature from your phone. Without Knox, anyone can steal your device and become its new owner. Why? Well, Knox links your device to your account only, no one else can use it unless having your user and password from Samsung, even after a full factory reset! So please keep this in mind, I'm willing to sacrifice this because I love Xposed.
2. DISABLING KNOX
- Now that you have Root Access, you need to install SuperSU to disable KNOX. Just go to the play store, download SuperSU, open it and grant root access to it using Kingo Root. You should now be prompted to Disable Knox and obviously you have to accept that!
3. OPTIONAL - Removing Kingo
- Download Titanium Backup from the Play Store so that you can remove your old Kingo User app... you won't need it anymore because you now have SuperSU. You can also uninstall Kingo App :good:
That's it! Rooted and without KNOX you can now install Xposed with no problems! No need for custom recoveries, just follow the classical procedure.
If you need help installing Xposed now that your device is properly rooted and without Knox, make sure to visit the other posts for more details.

I checked my device to update but I got massage that told me "the latest updates have already been installed." so HOW u got android 5.1 on E700H?

- Download Titanium Backup from the Play Store so that you can remove your old Kingo User app... you won't need it anymore because you now have SuperSU. You can also uninstall Kingo App :good:
That's it! Rooted and without KNOX you can now install Xposed with no problems! No need for custom recoveries, just follow the classical procedure.

i have downgraded to kitkat
and rooted by kingroot
good a root acsess also and super user granted the permisson now which sdk version zip have to download
Hello, I'm looking to get a new Android phone and I really like how the Sony Xperia 1 ii sounds, but, I really don't want the pre installed apps and I would rather fully delete them then just "disable for the current user".
If I rooted a Sony Xperia 1 ii then deleted the apps I didn't want, and I unrooted the phone, would it be as secure is it was before root? Also, would the apps I just deleted come back with future OTA updates?
Since I don't want to maintain a rooted phone and have to keep up security myself while it is rooted.
If you update it after that there's no telling what could happen is my guess.
Maybe do some ADB edits and call it good.
Or use Package Disabler for non Samsung phones and bypass all the monkey business entirely. Phone remains stock.
adb tools can fully delete pre installed app.
rooted phone cannot use some bank app.
If you want to rooted the phone,
you must unlock bootloader before root,
this step will clear all user data in your phone.
And when you want to get OTA and unroot,
you need relock bootloader.
And you need to flash firmware once before relock bootloader.
If not, you cannot boot into system.
So, your preinstall app will be back after relock bootloader.

Thank you for your reply.
I read on another forum that removing apps with ADB only "removes" for the current user. Not fully deleting off of the phone.
Is this not correct?

No, it's fully uninstalled.
But the install file (apk) is continue in your phone. So, if you add a new account(or use adb) , they can come back.
After use this method to uninstall app, just storage will be use (apk file) . The pre-install app will never use any ram and battery.
(I use adb method to delete "file" app before, but I cannot re-install it by adb.
Finally I need to make a clean flash by newflasher to bring it back. )
