Unlocked Version Spec Differences, Band Differences? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If I were to buy an unlocked version from HTC, or from another retailer, maybe from the UK, are the specs different? What about the hspa, hspa+, or LTE bands?
Right now I have TMO, if I could find an unlocked version before they release the phone, I'll buy that, just curious about the specs and usage.

LTE won't work at all. HSPA+ might but on TMOUS you probably won't get HSPA+ unless the variant has AWS.

Anyway to know?

purchase the HTC DEV EDITION.

http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=4041
LTE 700 / 850 / 1700 / 1900
WCDMA 850 / 1900 / 2100
GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
T-Mobile version supports WCDMA 1700 instead of LTE 850/1900

I want to buy the phone outright, but since I live in Houston, there is LTE with both T-Mobile and ATT, will the Developer edition allow for LTE on either carrier? I don't want to get stuck with something that only has Edge of HSPA+ speeds.

Unless I"m missing something, the T-Mo version would work on all bands on both AT&T and T-Mobile. The Dev edition wouldn't get you HSPA on AWS for T-Mobile (which is almost all of T-MO HSPA), nor would you get WiFi calling if you were going to be using T-Mobile.
Edit: More info on the Dev edition:

Would putting the eventual TMOUS radio on the Dev Edition get us AWS HSPA? I can give up the extra LTE bands.

I have no idea.

It seems strange to me. Why is the regular version (sold on Handtec, Clove etc...) more expensive than the developers version?

Now that I think about it, since it's a dev phone, why wouldn't they enable all bands if it were technically capable? Seems to me there'd be a hardware difference limiting the bands.

Are those importers?

From what i've read, the Developer edition is 64GB and only available in Silver (booo!)
And it doesn't support HSPA+ on T Mobile in the USA
However, I don't care about T Mobile HSPA+, what I want to know is if it will work on other UK networks with HSPA+
All the information i can find goes on about T mobile....does anyone know if it contains HSPA+ that works on other networks?
This website says:
http://www5-shopamerica.htc.com/cell-phones/productdetail.htm?prId=41599
HSPA/WCDMA: 850/1900/2100 MHz
GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
LTE: 700/850/AWS/1900 MHz (US)
However, I think HTC are going to pimp any and all versions possible
We already now know the nexus edition is coming
As this design is so popular, I would image they will start making HTC One Mini, HTC One Pad and other improvements to the current design
I had a tweet back from one of their developers about a black 64gb dev version, she said anything is possible
I would imagine they are just having stock issues at present, so i'm hoping for a black version

Does The HTC One Dev Edition Have Quad Band???

Hi,
As the title implies, is the htc one dev phone quad band? and if not, is any htc one quad band? of course they are locked down to use certain frequencies and what not to specific carriers.
Thing Im getting at is... if it indeed does have quad band then there is room for devs to find a way for people like me to get LTE on t-mobile and not just 3G. Unfortunately, the devs phone tend to favor ATT and leaves t-mobile hanging when it comes to 4G.
Many thanks,
Tim

I have been told that when a radio is available then we could flash it. But I haven't been able to confirm this and I too want to know about this. 1700mhz band is what Tmobile uses. This really could be the difference between me getting an S4 and this phone.
I believe that the dev edition out of the box will not support 1700 for TMO but I also believe that is a software limitation and not a hardware one as I believe it is the same hardware as the at&t version.

Dev version has same frequency as AT&T version
HSPA/WCDMA:
Europe/Asia: 850/900/1900/2100 MHz
GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
850/900/1800/1900 MHz
LTE:
US (AT&T): 700/850/AWS/1900 MHz
3G for Tmobile is not supported but I guess 4G is supported because it has AWS
1900 mhz is t-mobile 3G network it will have 3G but no 4G. Unless the devs get there hands on the 1700 soon.
My other question still applies from above. Is this phone indeed a quad band one?
Thanks

Anyone know for a fact that a radio flash would enable 1700?
I couldn't find exact specs, but the report on ifixit (can't post link) tells that there is a Qualcomm MDM9215M Communications Chip for GSM/UMTS/LTE. The other chip TriQuint TQM7M9023 is for Quad Band usage, GSM etc.
I am trying to find out, which Frequencies this chip supports.
I want to buy the US Dev Edition 64GB for use in Europe and I am still hoping that flashing a new radio rom is a work-around to get it working everywhere.
Maybe somebody has already done it?

It's actually 7-band (700/850/900/AWS/1800/1900/2100)... but not all bands are available for all technologies. Here is what you get:
HSPA/WCDMA: 850/1900/2100 MHz - This will give you 3G support on AT&T and MAY give you 3G/4G support on T-Mobile, but only in the limited areas where T-Mobile has already migrated their 1900MHz spectrum to HSPA+. In most areas, their 3G/4G service is limited to the AWS band which the HTC One Developer Edition only supports for LTE.
GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz - This will give you 2G/2.5G support on pretty much every GSM provider.
LTE: 700/850/AWS/1900 MHz - This will give you 4G LTE support on AT&T and T-Mobile.

Hi, T-mobile uses band 4 via 1700/2100. Also the 3G support. And tmobile HSPA must use 1700/2100 BOTH or it wont work which makes T-mobile 3g unavailable till 1900 is completed.
But perhaps when it says "AWS" maybe it means band 4 ? is that what your referring to? if so I stand corrected. Then again, LTE 4G is in so little places now.. lets not compute it -_-
Correct. Band 4 is AWS.
Anybody knows if i could use LTE in Spain with my Dev Edition
The One Developer Edition also includes support for 850/1900/2100 MHz HSPA and 700/850/AWS/1900 MHz 4G LTE connectivity

[Q] [INFO] HTC One developer edition on T-mobile

Phone - HTC One unlocked developer edition 64GB
SIM - T-mobile Unlimited Data package
I had a Google Nexus S and never had problems with data connectivity in Manhattan, NYC. But with the HTC One, the network keeps switching between 3G, EDGE and HSPA. The result - very embarrassing data connectivity - browsing, news feed sync, podcasts, and such.
Has anyone else experienced this issue ? Is there a workaround ?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Well surprise surprise...please get a TMobile version which has the AWS 1700 band for 3G/HSPA+ ... the developer edition doesn't have that band and you are got get bad reception/speed. If you are in 1900 refarmed market it will be ok but still that is not covering enough market.
People are trying flashing TMo radio to get the AWS 1700 band but i think it still doesn't work.
Developer edition is the same as the international edition. If the signal is week, it will fall back to the other speeds 3g. So yeah like kirdroid said get the tmo version for better compatibility

Been going back and forth between the Dev version and the Tmo one, looking like I'll stick with Tmo then.
However, think there's any chance flashing a new radio will eventually be ironed out?

Yes it has the LTE AWS bands but not the AWS 1700 HSPA+ bands to get the TMobile fast HSPA downloads, both are different. There is no misinformation ... lots of people get confused with the LTE bands. Below are the specs...the missing band is in the HSPA/WCDMA section, if it had the AWS 1700 band here then it was perfect.
HSPA/WCDMA: 850/1900/2100 MHz
GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
LTE: 700/850/AWS/1900 MHz (US)

[Q] T-Mobile version vs Developer Edition

What are the differences between the Moto X for T-Mobile (available only on Motorola's site) and the GSM developer edition in terms of network compatibility? I know that T-Mobile has "weird" frequencies for their HSPA+ network and the T-Mobile model supports this. Does the GSM Developer edition support the T-Mobile HSPA+ band for those areas where LTE isn't available?
I am under the impression that the developer edition only supports T-Mobile HSPA that is on the 1900mhz band.
Sent from my XT1053 using Tapatalk now Free
After posting my original question I found this post which states:
Not sure why there is so much confusion going about. The GSM Developer Edition, for all intensive purposes, is the exact same phone as the T-mobile Moto X (which is the true unlocked and unbranded Moto X). So the bands that they both support are identical, which includes:
2G/Edge: 850, 900, 1800, 1900MHz
3G/HSPA+/UMTS: 850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100MHz
4G/LTE : Bands 2, 4, 17
Again, they're the exact same phones. The only difference is that the GSM DE comes with 32gb only and is $650 with a white back and black front, and the T-mobile Moto X comes in only 16gb size (for now) and in weave black or weave white colors.

I've seen so many contradictions on this it's crazy. So while the author doesn't understand it, I'm still confused.
I definitely want support for all T-Mobile HSPA+ bands since their LTE network is so new and not very widespread, but I don't have a firm grasp of whether or not the developer edition will support all T-Mobile frequencies. If the author of the above post is correct, I'll likely go with the Dev edition. However, from his signature, he's running the 16GB T-Mobile version so I'm not entirely sure that he is the best source of this information.
Can anyone that acutally owns the GSM Dev edition confirm that it works on the T-Mobile HSPA+ bands?
Thanks!

i dont have a dev edition, but i saw someone say it was an XT1053 model as well. So if it is it should be the same as the t-mobile one (which i have actually)
The XT1053 model is the only model with the 1700mhz 3G band for T-Mobile. There would be no reason for the XT1053 to exist otherwise.
If you're on T-Mobile, go with the XT1053. It's bootloader is unlockable AND it's SIM unlocked. It's essentially a developer edition phone, with T-Mobile bands.

Are you certain about the T-Mobile version being SIM-unlocked? I had read other posts that indicated that while it does have an unlockable bootloader that it is SIM-locked to T-Mobile.
For what it's worth, here's a log of a chat I had with Moto customer service:
Scott: I am interested in the Moto X and I'm on T-Mobile in the U.S. I know that there is a T-Mobile version, the XT1053. However, I'd really like more storage so I'm wanting the GSM Developer edition. However, I know that T-Mobile US has some strange frequencies for their HSPA+ network and I'm not sure if the Developer Edition fully supports all T-Mobile bands. Can you confirm if the Developer Edition will work exactly the same on T-Mobile as the T-Mobile model XT1053?
Gerald Ray: Let me check if I can get your some visuals and detailed information. Hold on please.
Gerald Ray: I was able to verify that information. Yes, it does support Frequencies HSPA+ and other bands. It works exactly the same as the T-Mobile Moto X.
Developer version is 32GB, normal carrier version is 16GB
Moto X - Black or white available
Gerald Ray: You may also check this site: www [dot] motorola [dot] com/us/Moto-X-Developer-Edition-GSM-Networks/moto-x-developer-edition.html
Gerald Ray: Networks
GSM/GPRS/EDGE - UMTS/HSPA + up to 42 Mbps - 4G LTE
2G/2.5G GSM/GPRS/EDGE bands
850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G UMTS bands
850/900/ AWS/1900/2100 MHz with HSPA+ up to 42 Mbps (B5/B8/B4/B2/B1)
4G LTE bands
700/AWS/1900MHz (B17/B4/B2)
Scott: So you are saying that the T-Mobile version is exactly the same as the GSM Developer edition, except for the internal storage (32GB vs 16GB)?
Gerald Ray: Yes, correct.
Scott: Is the GSM Developer Edition an XT1053 or is it a different model number?
Gerald Ray: Good question. Let me check on that. Hold on please.
Gerald Ray: Yes, It has the same model number which is XT1053.
Scott: One final question: Is the T-Mobile version SIM-locked to the T-Mobile network or can I put in an AT&T SIM and use the device on the AT&T network as I could with the Developer Edition?
Gerald Ray: Thanks for the question. T-Mobile version is SIM-Locked to the T-Mobile Network only.

Exactly. The developer edition DOES NOT support the 1700mhz HSPA+ band. It will not connect to T-Mobile's HSPA+ network in the areas that haven't been refarmed. Only the T-Mobile edition accomplishes this.

Yes, I have a dev edition - it is the XT1053. So is the T-Mobile version. They're the same phone but one has less storage. Pretty sure Motorola has their description correct.
If it's the XT1503, then yes, it should support 1700MHz AWS.
Well it does not have the 1700mhz frequency just look at the Motorola site it shows LTE bands for the dev edition as 700 and 1900

The 1700 band is for TMO's HSPA network.
So from all the responses thus far, here is what I can come up with:
- Both the GSM Developer Edition and the T-Mobile version are model XT1053
- The T-Mobile version definitely supports T-Mobile's 1700MHz HSPA+
- According to Moto's Developer Edition page, it does NOT support 1700MHz band
So, is it really likely that there are two different versions of the XT1053, one of which has 16GB and supports T-Mobile's 1700MHz HSPA+ and another which has 32GB but does NOT support T-Mobile's 1700MHz HSPA+?
If only there were somebody here who actually owned a Developer Edition AND used it on T-Mobile in an area that hasn't been refarmed...

Moto X - Gsm (T-mobile / Developer edition)

Guys, would appreciate if someone could help me out here.
Just wanted to confirm the Tmobile and the Developer edition Moto X are basically both compatible with 3g networks around the globe right? Specially in the UAE? The US Nexus 5 apart from the 4g works fine here.
Also, they two (tmobile/developer) are technically the same phones right? The costs now being the same I'm wondering which one to get.
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 - all versions
CDMA 800 / 1900 - for Verizon, Sprint
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 - for AT&T, Verizon
HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 - for T-Mobile
CDMA2000 1xEV-DO - for Verizon
HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 - for Sprint
4G Network LTE 700 / 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 - for AT&T
LTE 700 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 - for T-Mobile
LTE 700 MHz Class 13 - for Verizon
LTE 1900 - for Sprint
Refer to your carrier for compatibility.

Here is the view from wikipedia

Looks the XT1058 model with the most of the LTE bands but it depends on the firmware.
Be aware that the GSM developer edition is missing band 700 for ATT LTE service. In my area, band 700 is used and I am not receiving LTE. At first I thought there was a problem with the phone but as i traveled yesterday to Indianapolis as soon as I hit Kentucky LTE showed on the gsm developer edition. Am on the fence as to whether I will return it. Did not realize this until I spoke with the local corporate location this morning.

The T-Mobile/Dev Edition are missing Band 5, which is 850mhz. Band 17 is 700mhz, which all the GSM versions support.
The T-Mobile and GSM Dev edition definitely use the same ROM and radio/modems. This is verified by requesting/downloading the firmware from Moto's web site, and comparing it to the retail/consumer rom hosted on http://sbf.droid-developers.org/ghost/list.php and comparing the files included in each.
This thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2546466 also has a discussion of the bands/frequencies the phones support.

Really? When it came to LTE bands I thought the T-mo/Dev X was only missing bands 5 & 7 when compared to the ATT variant, and those bands aren't supposed to be used in the USA. (at least that is what John Renaldi of Moto posted on G+ not too long ago.)

That is correct, I missed that one in my post above. Band 7 is 2600mhz and is not used in the US.
Are the available bands hardware or software limited?
Tapatalked from my G PAD 8.3
What bands are missing from the gsm unlocked non Dev edition?
Hardware limited.

I believe the GSM Unlocked device that you can pick from Moto Maker when you don't select carrier, is the same as the T-Mobile USA device, in which case it would be missing bands 5 & 7 when compared to the ATT variant

Who is your carrier? LTE Band 5 & 7 are rumored to be only used outside the USA, so for "Domestic USA LTE Use" the ATT (after sim unlock), T-Mobile, GSM Unlocked, and GSM Dev editions should all perform the same. The only real difference is lack of HSPA/HSPA+ on AWS(1700/2100) on the ATT model, which the T-Mo and Dev support, and GSM Unlocked should support too.
As for MMS, check your APN settings are correct.

Just wanted to share my experience on AT&T. Bought a Moto X developer edition from Motorola. Mine works and picks up AT&T LTE without issues. Also MMS works fine as well.
Just make sure you swap your existing SIM card to a brand new one at a corporate store where they actually scan the SIM and enter your IMEI into the AT&T system. Not sure if this was done already in your case. Good luck...

We figured out the problem. Porting a number from straight talk caused the issue. Once I activated a new number on a new Sim everything worked perfect.

[Q] Does Pure Edition support Fido/Rogers 3G/LTE bands?

I'm thinking of getting the pure in the US and using it up in Canada. Wondering if it'll work. I've heard mixed things about the LTE bands and some saying that 3G won't work at all.
Much obliged.

It will work perfect, 100%
Telus sells the XT1097, your looking at the XT1095 out the US just don't pick the AT&T model as it has a locked boot loader that seems cant be unlocked at all..... The Telus model, supposed to have the quickest updates... well thats a lie.... there is no update as of today... and no indication of when either...
I was able to buy a XT1095. I still haven't received it but now all I can think about is "What if I need to use the warranty for some reason?". Did anyone in Canada have to go through that?

I asked a similar question (but for Telus) on howard forums. This is the response i received o0vL
"Moto X - Pure Edition (GSM Unlocked with T-Mo SIM - XT1095):
GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS/HSPA+ (850, 900, 1700 (AWS), 1900, 2100 MHz)
4G LTE (2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 17)
Telus Moto X Specs
4G LTE: (Bands 2, 3, 4, 5, 7,17, 29)
4G (HSPA): 2100MHz (Band I) / 1900MHz (Band II) / 1700MHz (Band IV) / 850MHz (Band V) / 900MHz (Band VIII)
Seems like the Pure Edition is missing band 29, where its available on the Telus version. Not sure if it will affect the LTE connection"

On another thread on this site, someone mentioned that the hardware is the exact same on the canadian model as it is on the pure edition model, the only difference is the firmware. So it seems to me that a radio flash might be required in order to receive the proper bands. I'd love confirmation on this, as I plan on using motomaker in the US to build my phone.

You can't actually change the modem files, you must you the original meant for the phone. The XT1095 supports all of the 2G,3G and 4G bands that Rogers/Bell/Telus/Fido/Virgin/Koodo/Wind/Mobilicity use in Canada. You don't need to do anything but insert your nano sim and possibly program the APN to get network data.

thanks for the reply Steve, so the lack of band 29 shouldn't be an issue? LTE speeds should be achievable?
thanks again,
