Firstly, thanks for this great Tablet UI Rom for the Fire 8.9, your efforts are much appreciated.
I don't see anyone else posting problems on this thread, so if no-one else is having problems I'm worried I've done something wrong somewhere, I noticed another thread on the Kindle HD forum relating to the sister ROM on the Fire 7, but everyone there seems to be talking about the Kindle 7 and a version of the ROM that has a different release date to the one I've installed from this thread, have you amalgamated all the queries about the ROM to that thread ?
I've been using it since you released it and until the last couple of days I've been very happy with it, however, a few of days ago the tab started getting a bit laggy, so I re-booted it, the lag vanished - for a few hours - then re-appeared and progressively got worse, (ie. needed re-booted more frequently), over the next 24 hours to the point that the ROM became very unresponsive and I have now went back to Hashcodes CM10 to see if the same thing happens.
FYI - I did a clean install after wiping everything and used Gapps "gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip"
I've browsed through a few sites checking for reports of laggyness and noticed that quite a common cause is dalvik related - especially in cm10, do you think the memory leak is a problem with this version of cm10 ?

I've been using this ROM since it was released and have yet to experience any lag, and I've only rebooted once. Maybe the problem is with one of your apps?

Thanks for responding.
I have suspected a "rougue" app, and I have been messing with various sound boost apps to try and get a better volume for movies, but when they have'nt worked I've uninstalled them again - thinking I was returning the tab to a clean status - maybe one of the apps has left bits that are interfering with the OS.
Since you've obviously not had a problem I'm going to do a fresh install and leave it "stock" CM10/SGT7 for a week to see if it sort the prob out.

did u check cpu/memory usage when the system lagged?

I've just re-installed from new - ie full wipe and install from zip+gapps.
Had problems right away - took ages to boot, then setup kept hanging, saying it had stopped and offering to cancel - I just kept it going and after about 10 minutes finally got to first boot screen.
I've installed Chrome, FBReader, Titanium, ES File Explorer, MX Player, Adobe Reader and Beyondpod - the minimum I can live with.
Also GO Launcher HD and a Live Wall paper called Aquarium Free.
I'm using Tablet mode UI
These are all apps I have been using without problem for a long time.
When I press on an Icon to run an app, the system typically pauses for a second or two and then responds - then when the app runs everything I do takes ages - for example - on Chrome, my bookmarks take ages to appear, so long in fact that I often think the app has hung - when selecting a bookmark, there is a lag again of a second or two before the page opens - then there is a delay before it starts to draw the page - which also takes ages.
I'm typing this on my laptop and I know that there is no problem with my internet connection as visiting the same pages on chrome on my laptop is instant - as it is on my Note2 which also has chrome on it.
Quote "did u check cpu/memory usage when the system lagged?"
I don't know how to do this live, I've got show CPU usage switched on in developer options, the three numbers it is displaying are :- 1.01, 1.04 &1.23 - doesn't mean anything to me I'm afraid.
Pulling my hair out here as the tab looks great with this ROM on it - I just can't live with the lags.
(My other tab is a Nexus 7 and it Screams with CM10)
Is there anything I could install to track what's running and causing the delays ?

turn off the develop option and try this app.

Well there's your problem. Go launcher is a resource hog and it's riddled with trackers and adware AND you're running a live wallpaper on top of that.

I do appreciate your input on this but I can't agree with you on this.
I've been using both for a long time now and had no problems with either, as I said, my Nexus 7 and Note 2 both fly with these apps, also, the lag was not present on this tab with Hashcodes CM10 ??.
Also neither of these apps were present during the first boot when setup kept stalling.
I am going to try the app you suggested on the previous post - see if it highlights anything
Thanks

So I've been using this Tom on my original of and now its time to upgrade. My question is, does this rom only work on the 8.9 or can it also work on the 7?

No. The HD7 needs it's own kernel before ROMs can be developed for it. The kernel is under development, but it still needs time.

settings/screen/screen display/font style
Follow the above. This is were you change the font. Awesome extra option Samsung included for their devices. Other devices have to flash a zip to change their fonts. We don't even have to reboot for the change to go into effect. But once yu figure which one you like I would reboot just to make sure everything settles.
I want to thank alterbridge86, task650, and b00sted I have learned a lot from these guys.
It has been really slow in here lately, so I decided to try my hand at the Galaxy tab. I wanted it to resemble my Sensation ROM. This is only my second ROM so go easy on me guys. Check it out and let me know what you think.

* If coming from ICS you will need to re-stock and re-root to avoid serious boot issues. *
First boot will take a while! You're not in bootloop. The system will need some time rebuilding the cache and the dalvik cache as well as apply all the tweaks . Please give it time.

Difference with Galaxy Task 14 Rom

Q: what's the difference with your rom and the Galaxy Task 14 Rom , made by Task650 ?
Keep up the good work

If wifi is not working after first boot just reboot new scriptp will autofix.
If you boot to a blank screen and it stays there more than a minute or so after the kexec vibrate you need to reboot to SafeStrap switch to stock and boot it (optionally uninstall and reinstall recovery from the SafeStrap app). Then reboot and select your ROM slot and it should boot fine.

Me neither and it's driving me nuts lol - I can't figure out how to disable it .. Unchecking the box doesn't seem to do the trick. I've messed with dpi settings in hopes to force it back, but no luck.
It's in all the basic apps: calendar, settings etc.. and it's just not helpful in portrait mode. Is there a way if can be set for working ONLY in landscape mode. I'd do that all day.
If not, then a sure fire way to 'off' it would be awesome
is there native GSM support, or are we stuck using the "cm 10.1" broken gsm patch that requires cache clears on reboots?
Lack of auto-rotate isn't a big deal for me - disable it in the settings. It rotates when you slide the keyboard out, and goes back to portrait when you slide it back in.
I'm not a fan of the lack of symbols in the keyboard when hitting the SYM key. There's a lot of symbols missing, like < and >. The stock ROM has those and then some. Any way to bring them back? Other than that I'm loving the ROM. Definitely not switching back.
I've found that this ROM fails to boot in anything other than a 1GB partition. That is, when you go to create Slot 3, if you create /data as 2GB or 3GB, it will not boot.
WTF? Am I doing something wrong? Not a showstopper, but it's weird. Anyone else had this problem?
EDIT: Fixed in 20 April nightly! Cheers, no longer out of internal space. Thanks!
New nightly link in OP new builds just posted.

I'll do some work on providing settings options for the build.prop. Do you have a link to the cm patch?
Volume seems to be super-low in the 4-20 build. Like, so low that I think I have to go back to a previous build just to make calls.
So GSM is not working?
I think it is with build.prop edits

The 9-05 build: Installed clean. Runs very smooth. Also, camera works fine, video works fine on it. Other 4.3's have had problems with video recording, but didn't get any errors here.
First problem was with Holo launcher HD. Tried using this first, but "Unfortunately holo launcher has stopped". Trebuchet worked OK.
Main issue has been errors with google apps. Used the gapps linked, also had a copy already on sd card, a lot of "unfortunately the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped", "unfortunately the process com.google.process.location has stopped", google account manager has stopped" etc. It is acting as if it were a wrong gapps version, but its not, its the 8-13-2013. Everything works, just errors.
I could reliably cause this when changing wifi networks. Here is a logcat while changing network and forcing the error.

Thanks for the information. Holo launcher should work fine after it updates through google play. If it does not then again, let me know. I'll look at the logcat (and probably send it to smarter people for a second opinion too). Very busy with school these next two weeks, please give me some time
One thing you could try is to use slim gapps from slimBean....I know it sounds weird, but it's fixed problems in the past for me
slim gapps here if your interested

OK, clean build using PA gapps (full), and things seem better. One error on setup but for an hour or so now, no gapps errors. Running pretty smooth, will give more feedback later as it happens.
Camera video doesn't work after the first one, same as other 4.3's.

Have you tried third party apps from play store.....I think video cam illusion is what we always used on miui....(or something like that)
No. Didn't work. I have found no camera app that will work consistently on 4.3 ROMs. Thx anyway.
There is going to be a fix in the new build for the gapps fc issues. Give me some time to get a build out.

Team HellKat Proudly Presents
HELLKAT for the Samsung Galaxy S 4 (jflte)!!!!
(jflteatt, jfltecan, jfltecri, jfltecsp, jfltespr, jfltetmo, jflteusc, jfltevzw, jfltexx)
HellKat is CM11 based with a completely redone beautiful Holo Red theme. You'll probably notice a difference between HellKat and CM nightlies (or the virgin AOSP builds) due to the LINARO 4.8 toolchain we use to compile the ROMs. HellKat was first created by DerTeufel during Jellybean and was called Hellybean. We now support several devices and with a new build server we will be able to bring this beautiful ROM to even more devices. If you have another device supported by CM you more than likely can build HellKat for your other device. We have a nice build script so that the hardest part of building HellKat is setting up Ubuntu and an Android developing environement. Checkout our sources at https://github.com/Hellybean/android
Here is a quick list of our differences from CM:
- RED THEMED!!!
- AWESOME RED DEVIL DROID WALLPAPER!!!
- Init.d Tweaker built into the settings menu
- LCD Density Changer built into settings
- Option to add date to status bar (Thanks Slim)

- Movable Sizable Halo windows
- swipe anywhere on notification panel to switch views
- BatteryBar
- Quick Tiles Flip animation
- Quick Tiles allow 3,4,5 tiles in pulldown
- Ability to change notification drawer background
- notification transparency
- Launch floating notifications from notification panel (long click)
- Ram Bar in Recents
- App Side Bar Chamelion OS
- App Side Bar Floating Window
- Recent Apps Floating Window
- TeloRadio from telo46
- Flip to Mute/Reject Call

Just like the CM team.
"Your warranty is now void. We are not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards, thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if you point the finger at any of us for messing up your device, we will laugh at you. Collectively, and at the same time."

I used Jellybean Der is Awesome.
Everything as usual with the Hellcat works great! Just miss the airview features on my S4... Any way of integrating them back into the rom?
Is this ROM worth leaving cyanogenmod for it?

I have flashed 8 ROM's in a day or more even actually debugging. I compile CM11 HK and BL all 3 CM11 based and have dirty flashed all 3 ROM's and back without wiping cache even. Just have to install GApps each time. I am on a mako and I have flashed at least 30+ times without a wipe because I test all my mako builds and debug on my mako. You can always make a backup and if you don't like our ROM go back to CM. You obviously don't have OFD yet :laugh: Be careful flashing is what got me started
Jflte I thought our rom for Sprint galaxy s4 had spr at the end.

Sorry for the newbie question, but i've always used sacs or negalite roms since getting my s4 and i've been accustomed to a certain file size. I dowloaded the zip and g apps and noticed the rom was only 209 mb, just wanted to check and make sure i didn't get a bad dl before i flashed.
Thanks in advance, always looking for a good rom to try

Can't get a GPS fix w/this ROM
Came from Stock-rooted 4.3. Followed instructions in OP to the letter. GPS Status app just stays at 0/0 satellites, indefinitely, and Android Device Manager can ring the device, but cannot locate it.
Kernel related? What can I try? I'm sure there's a fix... I like how the GPS toggle in the notification bar (and everywhere else) looks like a pin that you can drop in Google Maps. Location reporting, sharing, and history are all fully enabled on the GS4, but the device cannot even locate itself in any app. My GTab 2 7" running CM10.1 (4.3) has no problems with any of the above-mentioned apps/features...
Help? Anyone? My primary device for getting around is crippled.
Figures.... I download and installed 20140223 and then today 20140302 is released - lol.
Great ROM otherwise, but PLEASE give me some suggestions? I did have problems at first getting the device to have SPrint service, which I fixed by playing with the "preferred network type" setting to "LTE/CDMA/EvDO", whereas the default option on this screen (forget which one it was) would tell me the device was not activated when I tried to call my GF's phone.
I'll be here, hitting refresh every five minutes, since I need GPS to be somewhere tonight that I don't know by heart. Thanks in advance,

Damn. First time using TWRP, due to SELinux and KNOX, and the first time I've skipped the backup process... I know I can only blame myself for that, but is this GPS thing really gonna be an issue again, with the same silly downgrade fix that we saw when upgrading our S2's to ICS? Seriously?
Or by chance, does today's new build...
.... does the 20140302 build released today have any ROM or CM Upstream changes that might help?
I assume I don't need to wipe system/data when just upgrading to a newer version of HellKat?

Fire OS 7.3.2.7 Updated APKs (Amazon Apps)

Here you can download updated system APKs pulled from Fire OS 7.3.2.7. You can skip to the downloads below if you don't wish to read more.
BACKGROUND
These system component updates are installed by DeviceSoftwareOTA via Settings > Device Options > System Updates, and not via the Amazon Appstore like how it is with Google Play Store on non-Fire tablets. Unfortunately, disabling OTA Updates via the FireToolbox (thanks @Datastream33) or creating some DNS blackhole effectively stops these from updating. One of these updates is for the Amazon System Webview.
I tried finding an update to the system webview but I wasn't able to find one, even after coming upon @blaacksheep 's collection of updated Amazon apps (which inspired this). So I decided to update my Fire HD 8 (2020) running 7.3.1.9 to 7.3.2.4 , and with this update the system webview was updated from version 87 to version 94, and then subsequently to version 104 via the OTA, as well as the Android security patch level increased from 2018-10-05 to 2022-01-01.

Here's the changelog of updated system components and their versions.

Here you can download updated system APKs pulled from Fire OS 7.3.2.4.
So I decided to update my Fire HD 8 (2020) running 7.3.1.9 to 7.3.2.4 , and with this update the system webview was updated from version 87 to version 94, and then subsequently to version 104 via the OTA, as well as the Android security patch level increased from 2018-10-05 to 2020-01-01.

You could try installing one, two, or all of those APKs that contain Alexa in the filename. As to the order of their installation I cannot give advice, so you should try and report here if you succeeded and what steps you took to update Alexa, for the benefit of others.
Would you be able to put into one zip file to download all at once?

You're welcome
Regarding your issue, I think you meant the AmazonSystemWebView by 'web services.' What error message are you getting, if any?

You only install updates of Amazon apps you use and you should be good to go. There isn't much more that you can do about keeping your device updated if you decided to disable OTA in return for more control.
I'll have to take a look at the WebView apk and why it doesn't install and update like the others.
I think he tried to install the file from my sig first. When it failed, he then tried yours. I've never had anyone tell me that the file I have didn't work and I believe that's the same for yours. It sounds like there are other factors at play here. I'd be interested to know if you come up with anything.

Thanks for the info. I don't have another device right now that is pre-7.3.2.2 to be able to troubleshoot if the apk isn't correctly installing in such a device, but if I know more I'll post it here.

Well, I have an HD10 (2019) with 7.3.1.2 on it, and my update applied from my HD8 (2020) with 7.3.2.3 on it (the source for all my update files). I could try applying your update because I'm sure it's newer than mine. I don't know if that would prove anything, though. I'll try it if you think that would be useful.

Yes please, if you can. It would be helpful to know that the Webview apk I'm pulling can be installed to update old versions of it.

Ok. I had a minor disaster today. My 512 GB SD card suddenly got corrupted, and I had to test and reload it. I had it as internal storage so most of my apps were gone. That took a long time over a USB 2 connection. Now I've got to determine if my updated versions of the Amazon apps were affected or reverted back to the original versions. I'll do all that tomorrow. It took me 4-1/2 hrs just to reload my music library on it and I'm done for tonight. I'm glad I have my data backed up!

It wasn't a big problem to fix. It was just the amount of time to push almost 300 GB of files through the tablet's USB 2.1 plug or the WiFi. I could only get ~14MB/s from my phone over WiFi because it was relaying through the router and that tops out about 30 MB/s.
Anyway, I checked all my "updated" apps and they were the updated versions that I had applied, not the originals. So I downloaded your webview file which was much newer and it installed without a peep. I don't really know how to test things but everything seems to run fine.
I suspect that @raan4 has disabled some app that's needed. Here is a list of the apps that I left enabled on my tablet:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
(The Toolbox version is different because it is from the Linux test build that Datastream33 had me test out.)
I didn't disable anything under Advanced in the tool nor did I use any debloat scripts. Many of the problems people have is from being too aggressive in their disabling of apps.
