I might be missing something here; genuine question.
Why would anybody pay US$12 for your card reader and then wait at least three months to receive the device, when they can buy something nearly identical today and get a free USB to MicroUSB adapter, all for US$5.60 including shipping?
http://www.kawau.com.cn/cn/ProductView.asp?ID=260
http://dx.com/s/c310.html?sort=Price
Is it as simple as that yours is just slightly smaller? (You don't provide dimensions, but a US quarter is approximately one inch in diameter, so it looks like your dimensions are probably about 0.8 x 0.8 inch, versus their 1.5 x 0.8 inch).
Or are you expecting your reader to offer higher throughput and/or lower power consumption than theirs, as well? What can you say about sustained read / write rates, and power consumption?
I'm genuinely curious why I would buy this. If it's just a matter of size, the difference in size is little enough that it seems unimportant, especially given it's double the cost and probably triple the time spent waiting. If it's a matter of significantly greater speed or lower power consumption though, I could see it being worthwhile.

Obviously we developed our solution*interdependently. We believe our design is better. Pretty much for any problem in this world, there are multiple solutions -- like buying smart phones, some people buy iPhones some buy Samsung Galaxy phones and yet others buy Google Nexus phones. We offer a solution to a real problem many people have. People have the freedom to choose whatever solution they like, we just offer them one more option.

Looking forward to it. The design looks sharp and clean. Love the shape. It seems very well thought out for practical usage!

It is coin-size and supports USB 2.0 standard.

Will this cover the headphone jack on the Nexus 10? Say no and you'll be the first kickstarter I've ever pledged to. :fingers-crossed:

You've publicly stated that you have your final housing design set in stone. How hard is it to provide a size in millimeters?

dimension is 21mmx19mmx7mm with cap on. When plugged in, outside portion is 19mmx14mm. For comparison, a MicroSD card is 15mmx11mm.it is USB 2.0, read/write speed is determined by the card itself.

So to be clear you feel there is no bottleneck from your reader, it will supply the maximum possible speed of any microsd card on the market?

Will it cover the headphone jack at all??

I asked about this on Kickstarter. They said right now, it doesn't block, but it is very close... If the plug for your headphone cord is thick (as all plugs have some variance in design) it might not work.
But he did tell me they're looking at possible work arounds or modifications to help with this...

In the testing, it is no bottleneck from the reader.

I got one of these from DX, works great with my 64gb micro sd card on my nexus 10. Took about 10 days to deliver from China to UK

Everything except adding a sd card slot would have cost a little more. A card slot would have cost next to nothing to add. I always thought they left it out to push their cloud service.

I agree. I don't think it was left out for cost reasons. After all, the Galaxy Nexus doesn't have a MicroSD slot either...yet there is a little plastic knockout plate that looks like that is where it would go if it did have one.

It has nothing to do with nfc. That spot he is using is normally empty. It is where the rear camera would be, if it had one. Sheesh. He will most likely be running his wires from somewhere else, since he has to. Does not look wired as of yet.

Damn some of you are pain in the asses
The mod isn't done yet. I'm waiting on a mini voltage regulator to come in so I can finish soldering stuff up. That's why its a teaser
And to you people saying its BS..that the NFC is there...shut the F up, you have no fracking idea wtf you are talking about.
Also with the sdreader I'm currently using the pcb is a bit larger then I would like so it doesn't fit perfectly in the rear camera munt hole. I'm going to trim the board a bit to get it to fit snug. Or just get a new board made with a zif connector so I can connect a ribbon able.
I still have the same issue as others do with the sdcard not being read when plugged in. I figure I should be able to tap into the rear facing camera connector pads (the pin headers are there to the right of the sdreader under the sticker) but if I do that I might need some software to be able to handle it.
Also its hard without a data sheet for the board

Comments by Jackasses and Development at XDA
It always pleases me immensely to come across such developments being made and shared here at XDA, even if I don't possess the device in question or don't have the necessary skills (or balls) to apply these hardware mods myself.
At the same time, it really saddens me to see many members here being total jackasses, responding rudely with their lameass remarks, downright DEMANDING the OP to release the work quickly, and even resorting to taunting them and calling it fake if it's taking them a while, when they have absolutely no idea about the whole thing themselves.
I am writing this post in support of all the developers like the OP here who are passionate enough about their devices to risk damaging them while applying such mods, and are more than happy to share the fruits of their labor here with the community, all without expecting ANY monetary compensation except for the appreciation of those they are kind enough to share their work with. It is completely uncalled for of the jackasses to behave rudely to them, while they are themselves not doing anything other than being free-riders, not contributing anything positive to the community, and at the same time spreading negativity with their crappy behavior.
While making use of the developments here without contributing any developments of your own is fine because obviously not everyone has the required time or skills for all of this, it's simply unacceptable to contribute negatively to a community that gives you so much for free due to the generosity of others, without asking you for anything in return. Heck, you don't even have to thank or reply at all if you choose not to; if you can't say anything positive, you can still just make use of all the developments here silently without saying anything at all. While it is encouraged and much appreciated, there's still no rule or obligation on showing appreciation being mandatory. Just don't go about being jackasses and being rude to the developers at least!
OP and other developers out there, please don't let what such jackasses say keep you from what you're doing. While there may be many of them around, there are still many of us who genuinely appreciate your work and understand the effort you put into it. Kudos to you, and thank you for making XDA what it is.
Before I finish my rant, I would request the moderators to be more strict towards such jackasses, as they contribute nothing positive here and at the same time likely drive potential developers away and harm XDA because frankly speaking, who would want to share the fruits of their labor for free with those who don't show appreciation and respond back in such a way?
Great work so far. Can't wait to see a write-up once you're finished. I'm not so steady with a soldering iron, but depending on what the procedure is I might give it a shot if it works well.

Smart Dock Arrived Today!

I mentioned in another thread a couple of days ago that Verizon had the Smart Dock, and that it was shipping. Came today, and all I can say is...WOW. I am running Jedi, and the orientation is landscape, NOT portrait as claimed elsewhere...I added no new app to automatically change this, so it is either baked in to the ROM or in Nova. Either way, it is badass. Get one.
Thanks! I'm assuming with a stock rom it'll be portrait, but that's fixable according to at least one video I saw.
Edit: I'm kind of surprised Verizon was the first to get these in an nobody else seems to have them yet. I think people aren't even getting them from Samsung yet.

Yeah, I got tired of waiting. I heard in my other thread (where I was b!tching about the dock not being available yet) that Verizon had them...it was the day before they shipped the Note 2 to their customers. Lo and behold, the order went through and an hour later it was sent via 2nd day delivery. If you don't mind paying full price ($99), they are still in stock at Verizon (or at least they were this morning when I checked).

Yes! In fact, you can see in the close up pic that I have an official Samsung hard case on mine. They made the dock really cleverly in this regard. The bottom where the phone actually sits is spring-loaded, so it will accommodate a number of case sizes. I'll try to make a video of that.
Also, my boss has the S3, and I heard people theorizing that it should work in the dock. It doesn't, at least not completely. The display out works, but the USB doesn't.

From what I understand, the dongle is merely a wireless streaming device. The dock charges the phone, allows 3 usb inputs, HDMI, and audio out. Essentially, your Note II turns into a mini desktop computer/media device. I spent the remainder of the day yesterday after it arrived at my office actually doing all of my work on it (emails, web, etc). It worked amazingly well.

There is a project--Mini MicroSD Reader for Android Smartphones & Tablets on Kickstarter. Copy introduce from Kickstarter.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/andyfei/mini-microsd-reader-for-android-smartphones-and-ta
An external card reader that enables you to use MicroSD card on your Nexus/Android tablets and Android smartphones.
It works with the following devices:
Samsung Galaxy S2, S3, Note, Note 2; Class 1 support.
Motorola RAZR M, RAZR HD, RAZR MAXX HD; Class 1 support.
HTC One X+, Evo 4G LTE (Sprint), DROID DNA; Class 1 support.
Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Google Nexus 7 & Nexus 10; Class 2 support.
Nook Color, Kindle Fire; Class 3 support.
Tablets using RockChip & AllWinner chips; Sonicview N710; Class 1 support.
Class 1: it is supported by the phone/tablet out of box, no rooting or other privileged software needed. Class 2: supported using 3rd party software such Media Importer from Play Store, with some limitations; root device and install 3rd party software such as StickMount to remove such limitations. Class 3: a custom ROM such as CyanogenMod is needed.
It should work with most other devices that support USB host or USB-OTG (On-The-Go) as long as the device maker doesn't intentionally disable such functionality. For the technically inclined, it has been tested and verified on all four major mobile SoCs(system-on-a-chip): Qualcomm Snapdragon, Samsung Exynos 3, 4 & 5, Nvidia Tegra 2 & 3, TI OMAP; as well as on RockChip and AllWinner chips.

Finally! I am honestly really surprised that Chinese web sites aren't flooded with such thingies already, there is every single possible connector for microUSB, except a tiny card reader!
Well, I guess being an early adopter has its costs, 12$ it is
(beware next year dealextreme is going to have them for a dollar )

Finally, I can't vouch for this one, but I'd be tempted to get one if I wasn't building something similar myself

I can attest that this works on my N7 running CM10.1. Of course, it's sold out now ...

Any old USB SD card reader will work if you have an OTG to female USB cable. You might need StickMount, depending on your kernel, to mount it. But that is a free app from the Play Store.
The only advantage I see to this device is that it is a neat fit. No cables dangling. But it would still have to sell pretty cheap for this to make a difference. And, personally, if I had a special need to use an SD card, I would be reluctant to wait around for some future delivery.

I'm sure that 4.4 Kitkat will have something for the battery life, and the screen is not that much bigger so it will be similar if not better than the Nexus 4.

I believe that's the new Note. 3gb also removes dual channel for single channel, or asymmetric mode.

Not sure I would say anything is official until Google officially announces it.

Physical camera button? Did anyone notice the two buttons on the right hand side where only the power button would be?

It is just a SIM tray, not a button.
Hmm doesnt looks that impressive simply by those battery life ratings... manages a few hours call time what the hell?! OEM estimated battery life is generally way too high so this seems really odd as its worse than the nexus 4 rated time .
Also the size of the device is slightly disappointing, I was expecting/hoping for a smaller device all round like the rumoured sizing of 131.9 x 68.2 x 8.8(?) hoping this is still true as that small change in size would be amazing and tip it from a good device to a perfect sized device .
Interesting... guess I will awaiting the release!
8 megapixel camera? This is a joke

Specs....ergonomics....nah....I'd be lying if I say I ain't disappointed. Not a Nexus for me this time around.....time for an HTC I guess...
If you all are unimpressed by the specs than don't buy it! I however like many others will enjoy the best phone to come on the market with the latest os, I would buy it even if it came with the exact same battery as the N4. The phone is going to be good so I wish luck to everyone who thinks they will be happy staying with their N4's, while everyone else is enjoying the new gem.
If these are going to be official specs, no thank you I love my N4!:what:

LOL. Dude, the specs are marginally better. You talk like it will make the N4 seem pathetic. LOL
Enjoy your marginally better, more expensive toy tho! N4's will be flying off the shelves with their lower price and nearly as good specs.
Battery problems? No matter the rom or android version.... >>>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2461864
Is there a PDF copy some where?
I'm on my phone so I can't quickly look through it.
Does anyone see any mention of USB OTG? That I'd the one feature I wish the Nexus 4 had.
