Looks exactly like our phones, so based on the picture we can't say anything.

does that mean the C6606 will only be sold through T-Mobile or will it be sold unlocked as well through USA's Sony store?
If its carrier locked or unlocked sold through carriers like T Mobile, the bootloader is usually locked. and I personally dont like it when carriers add their brands name on to the phone ><

I still haven't been able to confirm that it well be available unlocked yet. Don't think it's been decided yet.

Thanks for comfirmation Spectre
I have a weird question here... Does t-Mobile allows outright purchase?
I am from Canada and I'm planning some vacation in the States this summer, I wanna buy it there but I am not aware about how the carriers work there.
Some stupid carriers here do not allow outright purchase.
Also, I heard about a law that makes sim unlock illegal in the States, is this actually true? If T-Mobile allows outright purchase, do they unlock the phone, if so, does anyone know the price.
If I manage to get the device, I hope that T-Mobile logo is on the protector and not on the phone... I hate carrier branding on a phone
Also, do you have any idea about the Z Tablet release date?

Yeah they do. They just restructured their plans and you actually get a lower monthly plan cost if you buy the phone outright. Not like AT&T where it doesn't matter.
As to your last question couple of months.

US price of the phone.

Without contract what are the ballpark figure you guys think will be the cost?
650-700?
$800 maybe...

Its $749 outright in Australia. One would assume it'd be less in the US.

I came across just now an ad that's selling(Not pre order) the Xperia ZL C6506 variant for $650.00
http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-...peria-ZL-C6506-Android-4-1-W0QQAdIdZ450436593
legit or not?
Although I believe it isn't legit since I used google goggles on the images the ad provides and all images came from blogs so no actual picture of the device to be sold. But just posting it here thought someone from canada might thoroughly confirm it with the seller since the seller is only accepting meet ups for payment.
I HIGHLY recommend this site for all US users who want to get the Xperia Z. Its a company called handtec based in the UK and all their delivery is made over night. I bought my note 2, One X and S3 from them.
http://blog.handtec.co.uk/2013/01/23/buy-sim-free-sony-xperia-z-black-or-white-craftsmanship-design/
Just choose which color you want and click on the link. Its 433 pounds so around 690 US$. We don't have to pay for the vat ( value added tax).

Probably trying to sell a review device or something. I probably wouldn't buy it unless you're desperate to have it ASAP. These review devices aren't always even in the same update stream etc.

Ok... Actually I was indeed planning on purchasing it. But the frequency bands were not compatible here on our country whether it would be for HSPA+ or LTE.

I spoke with AT&T Tuesday and the woman I spoke to said they were picking up the Xperia Z, however they had a callback on it (probably not enough AT&T bloatware and badges) so it would be a little while still. She didn't give me an exact date or estimate, but she did say AT&T is "definitely" (her words) picking up the Z

And so far, only the ZL is being sold unlocked in the USA.
In theory, if you can import the C6602, it should be compatible with AT&T HSPA+ - but 6602s seem incredibly rare, nearly all Zs I've seen are 6603s (Euro LTE, which lacks HSPA1900.)

if you want the c6602 model check ebay, i have not bought from this guy yet but i plan to soon. if you could contact him and ask about the return policy/ exchange policy and post it here that would be helpful (for some reason i can't contact him) and also ask if what's in the box dock? headphones model.

you might also want to check negri electronics it's cheaper on their website, but i did not like their policies.

Yes Z isn't available "yet" unlocked in the states without ordering from somewhere else.
The C6602 works with AT&T HSPA + without issue.....no in theory about it. It's what I have been using for the past few weeks.
That's too bad for sony, I guess they won't get a chance to redeem themselves after all.

I am getting mine unlocked by my carrier. Three UK. It's £15, which is expensive but I would rather have it done officially. I have filled in the form but it looks like it might take a week to get the actual code from Sony.

All phones can be unlocked if the carrier agrees. For example, in Japan you can pay NTT Docomo like 3000 yen and they will unlock it.
But...
1. Unlocking it doesn't make it work on all frequencies magically.
2. Even unlocking the SIM may not enable certain other features (i.e. tethering, etc.)
3. If you really want it unlocked, you should buy the unlocked version to begin with.
I didn't want that carrier option . I'm actually from india and wanted to buy a carrier locked XZ from US or canada to use here in India (via my relative living there) . Also can i buy a phone on contract and ask for it being unlocked there and then while paying something, let's say 15 20 dollars ?

I had to renew my contract anyway, and am happy with what I have got. It is the same as I have been on for the past couple of years. The phone was very cheap on this contract. I am unlocking it to sell it so I can get an XZ with an unlockable bootloader. I will still be using the same provider. I am in the UK so the XZ works on all the right frequencies for me. I have absolutely unlimited tethering in my contract, that is why I have the contract.
I agree with your basic thoughts, but it's horses for courses.

Bootloader is locked, Rogers C6906 , but network is unlockable if you purchase code. if you want an unlockable bootloader, 100% avoid sim-locked phone, just buy a sim free phone.
Where did you purchase the unlock code from ?

Well, Google "unlock cell", unveils return tons of option, you will need to do research which one is reliable tho, some people go on ebay and it is cheaper at your own risk.

Can you please try this to see if the bootloader is unlockable or not ? Thanks !
First, you should confirm that it is possible to unlock the boot loader of your phone by checking the service menu. In your phone, open the dialler and enter *#*#7378423#*#* to access the service menu.
In your phone, tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked.

Unfortunately no Sony Store in the Toronto area has any unlocked phones in stock, or if they did they are hoarding them
Supposedly the stores will be getting their unlocked phones on Friday and stores are doing pre-orders now. This whole "launch" is pretty discouraging - as it seems like there are not that many phones available - my local store is only getting 4 black phones - I'm number 5 so won't be getting one until the end of October - which is when the next shipment is expected. I wasn't even told there was a pre-order system setup - even when I visited the store beforehand trying to get a glimpse of a display model. There wasn't any then, but there is one now - so my trip wasn't a total waste of time. Finally got a chance to see a working model.
Locked phones are available but seem to be selling slower - either that or they got more stock. Maybe Sony Canada didn't anticipate there would be demand for off-contract phones?
If anybody knows of any Toronto/GTA locations that still have open pre-orders I would like to know. A friend just picked up a Rogers locked one today.

Hold on guys - what does this mean for US people? I'm about to get a Canadian friend to buy a Z1 from Bell and ship it over to me in the US for use with AT&T. Will I have any issues? I don't want to return another phone if it doesn't work for me.

I would advise against getting a Bell model - unless you're getting a discount. If you're paying the full price that Bell is asking for ($699 + tax), you might as well get the factory unlocked version directly from Sony for the same price. Rogers has the purple colour locked down if that's your preference, so only Black or White available from other sources.

Thing is, I've gotten pretty desperate. I contacted Bell and in order to be able to use the phone in the US, the carrier does need to unlock it. That's an added fee of 60 dollars from Bell. I also contacted a Sony store in Markham, ON and they said that the earliest I can get an unlocked one from them would be a month or so from now, or until their next shipment.

Just buy direct from Sony man - no need to pay extra for carrier unlock, and no carrier bloatware. Bell is selling it a $699, then you pay $60 to unlock, then there's the 13% Tax - that's about $860.
If you can't wait that long, see if you can get it from Rogers since they are selling it for $599 off-contract. At least you save a bit.
I myself will be getting it from my provider because hardware upgrade - picking one up tonight.

Alright - just got back home after fighting rush hour traffic from Yorkdale Mall.
This whole experience has seriously cast doubts as to whether I will ever purchase another new Sony phone again.
I have been given so much misinformation both over the phone and in person its getting ridiculous. It seems that they really want you to be physically at the store so that they can upsell you on other items - I was told over the phone that the box doesn't contain headphones, so that I should go there and pick out one or maybe even a bluetooth headset. All this when I just simply asked about the pre-order status.
The latest I have heard was that all stores are taking pre-orders and the warehouse will be shipping out units to the stores as they are placed. I had one salesperson tell me over the phone that the black unit was heavily back ordered (negative inventory), while the white was still available - only to get to the store and told that it doesn't matter - they're both backordered. They can't even guess at when I would be getting a phone. I was also told that the 18th was the official launch date and they weren't allowed to release the phones, which coincides with other info from this thread. The problem is that I was also told today that the Upper Canada Mall location had inventory since yesterday and they just sold the last one today!!! WTF? I've been told that I would get one next week, end of Oct. or even next month - this has all been extremely frustrating.
I really wish they would just allow you to pre-order online and have it shipped to the store like a normal retailer would.
AhsanU - if you want to put me in contact with your friend I can let them know when I receive my phones (2 on pre order), or ask them to get to the closest Sony store and just put down a deposit and hope for the best. Bell and Rogers are notorious for overcharging for everything, whereas Telus is a bit better, but they will all take advantage you given the chance. The unlocking fee is only supposed to be $50 but I'm not sure if they included the tax already. Why do they insist on locking the phones when you're either buying the phone outright or signing a contract that stipulates financial penalties when breaking said contract. In Asia, none of the phones are locked and companies actually compete with each other. I just hope there is a special place in hell for all these telecommunication executives...

Best model to buy and where?

I am looking for a bit smaller phone than my G2 and the Z3 Compact looks like the one I will go with. I see it isnt even out in the US yet, and I am on ATT. I will be buying the phone off contract though so which model should I get? I want to go with one that supports the LTE bands ATT uses, but also will have a lot of development for it. Also I need to be able to root it, and preferably unlock it, so that means any sort of ATT official model is probably out of the question, if they even get any model. Seems like only TMobile gets the Xperia phones in the US all the time.
You want the D5803. Buying it from either Clove or Handtec will get you the best price.

Just remember, like several of the threads here say, make sure the AT&T store you go to for your nanosim does not use the IMEI from the Z3C. Tell them to use the IMEI from your G2 instead.
