[Q] SHV-E160K / S - microUSB connector with flex cable of a GT-N7000 - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Korean SHV-E160K (Olleh version) with a borked USB connector.
After days of research I came to the conclusion I should ask the experts~
The broken part has "SHV-E160S_Rev0.8" printed on. (Where the S is whitened out, since it's the K type ofc loll).
Seemingly both devices use the same USB connector module.
Is it worth the risk to buy a GT-N7000 micro USB module such as the one I could order on Amazon to use in my SHV-E160K?
Or is it safe to say that it's not worth the try?
I'm not sure if I should continue searching for the Korean one if I could get an "international" one much easier...
TIA
Soo Star

Of course it is
News from nowhere.

if its the same rev code it is possible. if it doesnt cost much its worth a shot. the rev code thats printed on the flex cables is important.

SHV-E160K Note repaired
After mounting it,
-Speaker works
-Microphone works
-USB connector works
Although the part I ordered clearly was labeled to be for a GT-N7000, the part received had "SHV-E160S REV0.8" upon alike it's predecessor just without the whitened out part.
img199.imageshack(.)us/img199/7522/keibeul.png
The only difference was the write on the clip of the connector itself.
It says E160S, on the damaged cable it says E160K(KT) - for my Olleh (Korean phone provider). - as shown on photo
img194.imageshack(.)us/img194/5938/clipi.png
If that will have any impact on LTE/4G connectivity I can only verify next time I go to Korea, since we don't have any type of 4G network in Switzerland.

Is it possible to add an NFC chip to the Nexus One?

The NFC chip of the Nexus S is located on the battery cover, IIRC. I was wondering if it is possible to install it on our Nexus One.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/26/rim-bank-of-america-partnering-up-for-mobile-wallet-nfc-trial/
According to this, it is possible to add the NFC chip to older blackberry phones that didn't come with the NFC. I'm not a very tech savvy person so I was wondering what other kinds of hardware connection you need to make it work?
Well, I would think it wouldn't take much to put a pre-programmed chip anywhere you want. But tying in to the rest of the hardware, and thus software... I can't imagine this is easy.

Yeah I was curious after reading this post as well. If an ancient Blackberry can do it, surely the N1 should have no trouble. Then again, the Blackberry models have always had a sort of built in NFC for interfacing with their holsters, so it might be a build up on that.

I don't think it is NFC. I believe it is some kind of magnetic sensor. The Holster has a magnet and when the phone leaves the magnetic field, it automatically turns the screen on or something. But you could be right that it could be related to NFC.
Most blackberries have dock connectors in their battery doors that allow for power and I am pretty sure data transfer, thus of a new back was inserted, the infrastructure would already exist for it to talk to the phone. N1 doesn't have this on the battery door.
Well ok, maybe not the battery door. But how about the docking pins? They allow for data and power transfer? Sure, it'd interfere with docking if you'd mount a chip on there. But some people might be perfectly happy with that..
Or am I talking about completely different things here?
I'm pretty sure the docking pins would be a viable option, as they do transfer data (tell Nexus One to open clock, open car mode). I don't know anyone who would reverse-engineer that much though

Didn't expect rim to be this forward thinking.
Those docking pins, since they they are not connected to the door are irrelevant. They bear no resemblance to the ones on a bb because you can't just swap out the bottom piece of the phone for one with an nfc chip in it.
The only possible solution for this idea that I can think of (prepare yourselves, it is pretty out there) is to place an "L" shaped tab between the battery connectors on the battery and phone, have connectors on the other end of the "L" that sit on top of the battery, and make a new back cover that has an nfc chip in it, and connectors to the "L" tab. This would only work if there was a way for the phone to send data to the battery, if that were possible the tab would create a fork in the data "road" and allow for interaction between the phone and nfc chip. I highly doubt that the N1 has such a sophisticated battery, but I do know that this is possible because some macbook batteries get firmware updates pushed directly to the battery. So if you were a genius mechanical engineer, the phone and battery could talk, and you had a lot of time on your hands, you could probably do it.

Actually RIM and Bank of America are partnering to do a pilot program of bb's with nfc chips:
http://m.engadget.com/default/artic...wallet-nfc-trial/&category=classic&postPage=1
I wouldn't be too sure about this, but SD cards with NFC chips integrated have been looked at.
Edit - can't put in a link yet, so just google NFC SD card and there a articles on this.
How useful this would be for us remains to be seen. I don't think the NFC drivers are loaded into the passion release...
More than likely, we'll all have changed phones by the time NFC is widespread. I wouldn't get the Nexus S though
is it really possible?

[Q] Is it Captivate?

Hello all,
I have a very interesting (at least I think so ) problem with a Galaxy S mainboard I have. The problem is I do not know what exactly variant/model this is. The mainboard came with 16GB flash and only back camera (no front facing), so I assume this is Captivate model. This is not the end of the story though. The board was initially with broken system, so after I managed to get it back working it was registering as GT-I9000 (as it still is). I have currently installed cyanogenmod 10.1.3 for standard international version. So you may ask - what is the problem? It is standard Galaxy S International. Well, I am not so sure. For one, based on my knowledge international versions have both back and front cameras (this came with only back one, unless someone switched it) and also to check if this is international I installed double camera in this phone (from another board). After that the back camera works fine (takes photos etc.) however as soon as I swap to front camera I get "Unfortunately, Gallery has stopped." and I am unable to launch camera again without full wipe (probably there is some setting that could be reset, so that camera app uses back camera, but I do not know what that that setting is). Anyway based on that I assume it may be a different model. Visually there are also some differences in mainboard vs. other 100% sure international mainboards I have (I can post photos if this will help). I have tried installing cyanogenmod for captivate without luck (ro.product.model error), as well as other mtd mods - all go with this same error.
There are also other issues with this mainboard which make me believe that this may be a different model:
the wifi range/signal is very low compared to other same but international models (may be because of kernel issues, I read about that somewhere, unless a hardware problem(?))
the sound from speaker works when I change ringtones for example, but does not on youtube (headphones work fine with sound)
when phone goes to sleep very often it restarts or hangs (just black screen)
this may be unrelated, and should not cause mentioned issues, but the mobo also has broken EFS partition, so you cannot make calls and there is no IMEI present
My question is: could someone overwrite this setting so that it "thinks" it is a GT-I9000? How can I check which model this actually is? Were there any international models with only one camera?
Thanks a lot!

This is not entirely true, unless I am reading another wiki .
Captivate
AT&T released this variant (SGH-I897) for the United States on July 18, 2010,[65] while Rogers released its own variant (SGH-I896) for Canada. Both variants include 16 GB of internal flash memory, but without the front camera, FM radio and LED camera flash present on other Galaxy S variants. Android 2.3 "Gingerbread" is available for this model.[66] The Rogers version includes minor GPS functionality differences and the ability to utilise HSUPA.
Vibrant
T-Mobile released this variant (SGH-T959) for the United States on July 15, 2010.[67] It is the third Android 2.x phone officially supported by T-Mobile (after the Nexus One and MyTouch 3G Slide). Like the Captivate, it includes 16 GB of internal flash memory, but omits the front camera, FM radio and lacks a LED camera flash. Android 2.2 "Froyo" is the last version available for this model.[68]
T-Mobile and Wind Mobile also released the closely named Vibrant 4G (SGH-T959V/W) in February 2011. It adds HSPA+ support and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.
Fascinate
Verizon released this variant (SCH-I500) for the United States on September 9, 2010.[69] It omits the front camera and FM radio of the base model, but adds a LED flash. Android 2.3 "Gingerbread" is available.[68] Its release was accompanied by some controversy over Verizon's decision to replace Google Search with Bing as the primary search engine.[70]
The SCH-I500 is also known as the Mesmerize for US Cellular and the Showcase for C Spire and Ntelos.

Obviously this is not Fascinate, since the mobo lacks LED flash, but still at least 3 models without front camera...
EDIT:
I have added pictures of label of the battery compartment with some information, maybe this will help in determining what model is this? I am wondering about the NTT in the upper left corner.
The second picture shows that there is a place for front camera, however is was not made transparent it is black as seen on the picture, which means it was a back-only camera version of the phone.
Looks like the board came from NTT DOCOMO SC-02B phone - a version of Galaxy S for Japanese market.

Yes, exactly I just made the same conclusion. I just flashed stock ROM using Odin from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11614716
and the phone works fine (in terms of not hanging/restarting). I even have baseband visible, unfortunately it did not fix the EFS partition (what is not news for me, but still I had hope... ). Interesting thing is how it got itself in Europe... Anyway, the issue with speaker (not working with youtube for example) still persists, as well as very low wifi range and GPS not locking. This is probably due to differences in back casings (antenna), however in general it works fine. The camera software works fine too, only with back camera (not possible to change). I replaced it back to original one and works fine. Maybe I will take this mobo to Samsung service, they are able to restore EFS for not so much $.
Anyway, thanks for all help, I appreciate it.

The shipping + diagnostic only will be more expensive than the board. Upgrade the phone to a better one. SGS is a 3y hardware, it's not worth it to repair. Try to find a DYI solution to the EFS problem. You may have to learn Japanese first...

Yeah well, I was asking around about it, if the situation has not changed it costs about $20 to do that, while the board is about $70 (I mean only the EFS repair). But in general you're right, there may be something more wrong with it and it will not be worth it. I will consider it.
About EFS repair DIY: I searched about it over the internet, everywhere I got information that you cannot do it "for free" there is a software that can do it using servers, but that costs A LOT. I will look around more, but I do not think it is possible unfortunately (without backup).
Thanks again,

is Xperia ZR still worth buying? (transition from ASUS Zenfone 5)

so, recently my local used phone shop got tons of used Xperia ZR docomo, with 2GB RAM and 32GB internal.
until this time, I'm using ASUS Zenfone 5 (ASUS_T00F) with 2GB RAM and 8GB internal, which sucks (and everybody knows ASUS have A LOT of bloatware).
is this phone still worth buying? they are sold like $90 here.
and what should I check first when buying?
thanks!

Could you share some pictures of these Xperia ZR units? I want to buy one too, but I want to know the whole state of use of them.
PD: Could you test if their Wifi works well?

If you're looking for a smaller phone with large internal storage and a removable battery, then this phone fits the bill. I believe it may be the only one out there that has all of the following:
- Under 5-inch screen size
- 720×1280 screen resolution
- 2 GB RAM, 32 GB (about 25–26 GB usable) internal storage
- Removable battery
- microSD card slot
- Some USB OTG support (microUSB flash drives work, USB OTG adapter cables don't seem to work)
- FM radio
- Custom recovery and custom ROM support (even though the bootloader is locked)
It also happens to be waterproof and can be charged on a charging dock via contact points on the side without using the microUSB port.
For anyone who's planning on buying one of these, check if the phone is SIM unlocked. If it's locked, you can just buy an unlock code online, but make sure it hasn't run out of attempts to unlock; otherwise, it may be permanently locked. Some info on the Xperia phones' SIM lock can be found here. And of course, make sure the phone's frequency bands match your coverage area since this particular one seems to have fewer bands than most other phones.

and you forgot NFC! just lacks an IPS panel and maybe better camera
so so difficult to find a similar phone with such price, maybe the s5 mini, witch i hate due the mecanical button, amoled displays end up burned overtime, and has less ram, and much more expensive.
i just bought a mi4c with awesome 4k capable camera, ips panel, Infrared, usb type-c, and an snapdragon 808 that returns 67000 antutu bench
and i am thinking into sell it for a ZR, beacuase it has all what mi4c lacks for and i also need in a phone, waterproof, nfc, microSD expansion, radio, compact size, removable battery, charge dock so you dont end up breacking the water seal rubber of the usb.
ZR is quite close... the antutu bench is around 21 000, but i guess is enough for not heavy users.
Z3 compact was another option but much more expensive, and not easy to replace batt.
in my local country ebay (spain) they also got Xperia ZR docomo, with 2GB RAM and 32GB and thats why i knew this model, becuase the ZR was never released officially in spain, shame on you Sony. I was looking so hard for a cheap, compact waterproof with NFC and decent CPU phone.
i am tempted to get one, for 89€ about 99$ or so

External NFC readers...

Bit of a shame they scrimped on the NFC reader / writer. I found it really handy on my Nexus 5 for topping up my travel card and have missed it on my current phone.
I've seen external micro-usb RFID reader / writer doodads like this one - which obviously wouldn't work since it would need to be usb-c. Has anyone ever used one? Any idea if these types of solution (if usb-c) could allow an F1 to write to an NFC tag? Obviously it's not something you'd want to leave plugged in, but if it worked it would be handy to pop on and off when required
If you really need the NFC , you should think about any good smartwatch with NFC. If it is acceptable for you to use any smartwatch , it will be the best use of NFC interface we can imagine.
Thanks for the reply, but that doesn't really fit my use-case plus smart watches ain't really my thing. Gonna recommission my Nexus 5 with the sole function of adding credit to my smart cards
I came across gadget by some reviewer which was a ring with an nfc chip embedded. Smart watches are costly and in this case might even be as much as the phone itself. :S

If this was a deal breaker I would but as it goes, NFC is a "nice to have", while the F1 has all the higher priorities covered

The obvious option is to buy a micro-usb NFC reader/writer like the one I think I liked to above and a micro-usb to usb-c adapter, but I've no idea if the devices actually work. Rather than order one and wait weeks for it to arrive I wondered if the wisdom of crowds might help...
This is a 300 phone that should be as fast as a OnePlus 6 and an S9+. Of course they need to cut corners. Plastic back (unless to get the Armor), no wireless charging, no NFC. I'm OK with all of that in a ~300 dollar smart phone. It has a Qcom 845, water cooling, 6GB of RAM, and decent camera. It is so cheap I decided to order one to play with it. I've never been a big fan of MIUI but I'm hoping the develpment community will provide lots of options. My bet is this phone will have a lot of development given the specs and price.

Yeah, I think that might have been a fib. As far as I've understood it, it's a rod thermally conductive metal, so it draws hear from the soc to other areas of the phone less likely to overheat (though when I was watching the teardown it looked like it was drawing hear to the battery - hot batteries didn't do Samsung a whole lot of favours. Jus' sayin')

Okay so I saw a galaxy s9 teardown who was inspecting the liquid cooling in it and found that the liquid is basically inside the metal heatsink. The liquid can physically move inside thereby facilitating heattransfer. Guessing Xiaomi used that.

That should fix that .
What I love with Android, if it's broke you can fix it how you like it - mostly...
Back to the subject of NFC devices, it seems the one I initially linked to in the first post is only an NFC tag reader, that is, it will read an NFC code from a tag. Writing is a different matter and probably requires something more like this.
Scouring t'internet revealed some other interesting idea though. Apparently there have been trials of NFC reader / writers built into microsd cards (even SIM cards) though it's not clear if any of these reached the market. That would be a much more elegant solution than a plug in external device.
Does anyone know any more on this?
Does NFC feature came with galaxy gear s3/watch a writer or reader only? Can it be use to top up something like eMoney card?

I'd assume they would read and write, but idk.
Not sure about emoney cards, but my Nexus 4 and my Nexus 5 can both top up my Leap Card (an Irish travel card for trains, trams, buses etc)
This will not work. The NFC hardware should have secure element. There are microsd card with NFC.
But I have not seen Google pay supporting it.

Buying a Razer Phone in 2022

I've been looking at new phones since my time with the Pixel 3A may be coming to a close (if I choose to switch or fail to repair it), and was deeply saddened by the current phone scene, at least for my wants.
I'm looking for a phone with all or some of these features: a headphone jack, telephoto lens, and stereo speakers. And that's when I remembered my Robin, and the Razers that followed it.
How is LineageOS on the RP2? Is it daily-able? (Shout-out to npjohnson for keeping the Robin and Razer alive, you absolute madlad) Also, has maintaining support been difficult, such that future versions of Android could be impossible to get 100% functional like the phone is now on lineageOS 19.1?
Have any of y'all had to replace the battery yet? Are new ones high quality ones easy to source and put into the device?
Is the camera performance good? Any good gcam apks that make it awesome to use?
so i have a razer phone 2. i just upgraded to the RED magic 7. but i still game only on my razer.. since i had it. ive gone through 1 battery. since 2018 since i had it. and as usual the USB charge port goes out.. i also justt got that part from ebay. i literally bought the last one. some dude was sellinglike 10 of them for 40$ a pop.. an i replaced it myself. BUT... now my phone wont get recognized by my computer.. IT CHARGES. but soon as i wanna plug it into the computer. it just charges. doesnt make a beep on the computer. or nothin. idk if its cause the new piece isnt "factory" or what. i did all the udb settings, possible, no luck.. my phone is Rooted. android 9. im afraid to lose root an wipe it. or idk . if i wipe it i may be sccrewed cause i still wont be able to use it on computer. and flash it to a normal rom. replacing the battery is really easy... and those damn charging ports. go out. when u take it apart its literally a 90* degree ribbon that hangs off the chip. then flips into the usb c hole on the bottom of the phone. what i found out when taking it apart is it literally tore an edge on the ribbon leading to the chip. so thats why the charger goes out. Fd up design but. theres absolutley no new razer phones for sale. all the ones on ebay are all risky/ usb port messed up. so if ur looking there, id ask everyone if " charge port is okay, or if "the cord has to be wiggled, certain way to charge it." if you gotta wiggle it, then its pretty much really close to just not working anymore.. unless being replaced. cameras ok.. idk. its a 2018 phone. it was pretty ahead of its time when it was out.. now theres alot better. but for the price of one. like 100-150$ its decent . maybe jew someone down.
