which phone after Galaxy MINI ? - Samsung Galaxy Mini

I plan to change the smartphone, and I have some ideas on my next smartphone I want to choose and I solicits your opinion on this choice, I wish to have constructive answers please.
I want a smartphone that is either Xiaomi MI-2S or the the samsung galaxy S3.
Your opinion?
Thank you in advance.

Go for mi-2 if you want to be stuck with miui, as xiaomi didn't released kernel sources. S3 will give you more freedom in roms to choose from

But level performance the mi2 is more strong than the Samsung galaxy s3, and more low level of price.

maybe it is, but you can't install anything else than miui on it, because there is no other rom for this phone... why don't you try nexus 4? it have really great dev support (better than s3) and is cheaper than s3

Nothing beats nexus 4 yet! But unfortunately its availability is extremely like low

Yeah it is a beast with miui v5.

And there's no cm10.1, aokp or anything other than miui... If you love it, then go for it. I'd rather save up for something else, or wait for nexus 5 (should be out in 3, 4 months)
*edit: not that I have something against miui, specific-wise mi-2s is awesome phone, but the fact that xiaomi is holding back on kernel sources, is preventing any serious development, and this me no gusta...

I think 3-4 months is still early for Nexus 5. AFAIK Google's been always keeping about 11 months time gap b/w new Nexus....so in my view it'll take some time.
But still who knows what's Google planning.
I'm also in mood of buying Nexus ( 4 ) but part of me wants to wait for Nexus 5.

why don`t wiat and buy galaxy 4 or samsung galaxy nuxes ???

The best reasons why i prefer the Xiaomi MI2S is the ration price/performance/quality and the xiaomi is the best after what i saw.

Your call .. buy it.. you will not regret.

Yeah, but it's really closed source. I like MI2S is because the price, you can overclock a Nexus 4 to get processor performance like MI2S.

but with no tweak you get better performance as a nexus 4 overclocked, which can be broked.
So if i compare the Nexus 4 and the Xiaomi MI2-S without hesitation i take xiaomi.

(Solved) Galaxy Note with JB rom as good as Note 2?

Hi,
I'm thinking of buying a Galaxy Note or Note 2. I know there are a couple of other threads asking what the differences are between the two but that doesn't really cover what I want to know.
What I want to know is if a custom Jellybean rom is flashed onto the original note will that give it all the features of a Note 2? Is there anything that makes the Note 2 stand out from the original that a custom rom can't provide for?
Thanks to anyone who takes the time answer
I use note 1 with leaked jb rom and my friend uses note 2. I compared these 2 software and nothing different. In addition, note 1's shape is better than note 2 )

That's good to know. I also prefer the shape of the original note, the note 2 seems too elongated and narrow. Maybe this is better if you're going to use it as a phone but I'm planning on using it more as a small tablet for things like ebooks, internet, apps, etc. Not much point spending an extra £200 for the note 2 if the original can have exactly the same features once rooted.
Thanks for the feedback
Personally, I see no big difference comparing my Note (which has a leaked JB rom) with Note 2 with stock JB rom.
In my opinion, the only thing that it is worth with the Note 2, is the Quad-Core capability of the processor and the extended SD capacity...
I prefer the design of my Note much better than Note 2. It is an iconic design.
The Note 2 is more...Galaxy S-III...more common design...
I think so too, I like the original Galaxy Note.
Best regards,:good:
Re: Galaxy Note with JB rom as good as Note 2?
Note 1 is still amazing phone there was no need for the note 2 to release yet it's the technology that's going throw rappid speed,i heard the Samsung team is working on note 3 that will have a 6 inch screen any way to the point with all the roms and kernals and mods to keep us happy and loving our note 1 do we really need these upgrades.....

I really think it goes back to personal preference.. and if the absence of some minimal features represents a "pet-peeves" to you.
I have the original Note, my brother has the Note 2, after I flashed the JB ROM I can assure you there haven't been much major differences noted.
Few of the minor differences I've noticed are: -The "original" speed of the devices, it is slightly faster and smoother on the Note 2. Some would say it is barely noticeable.
-The camera on Note 2 takes better, more clear shots (or at least so is the case here)
-This is debatable, but I consider my bro's Note 2 screen sharper and more vibrant. Which reminds me, earlier last year, one of the problems that many Note owners, including myself, suffered from was the black pixelation when viewing any picture or video with dark/black parts. I don't know if it's still there on newer batches but I've seen nothing even close to it on my brother's Note 2. So you might wanna keep this in mind.
All in all the major differences between a Note 2 and an original Note running on JB are minor. I suppose if you could get a chance to work with both devices yourself for some time and compare for yourself, that would be the best way to help you reach a decision.

Thank you so much for explaining all of this in such detail, and to everyone else who has offered their experiences and advice.
I have decided to go with the original note, root it then flash a good Jellybean rom. Doesn't seem like the Note 2 is that much different at all really.
I really appreciate everyone's comments :good:

Your question was about brick bug.

To re phrase the question like this--the op asked about which to buy, note 1 or 2 with both having jb installed. In answer to the op all kinds of bugs which can be considered catastropic should be mentioned.(not minor software bugs) regardless of having jb. If both have bugs then it would be better to go for a more mature phone in this case note 1. Anyway this is only my opinion.

Note 1 brick bug happen when you factory reset with unsafe kernel. But note just happen without any notice.

If you have extra money, then i will advice you go for note2. If you at tight budget, just wait for the note3
1) shape-=note 1 better
2. Rom features (4.1.2) = almost same.
3.) Performance of smoothness and responsive= note2 on par with iphone 5. You simply forgot what is all about slow and lag at anywhere.
4. Screen= note 2 better.
5. Camera= super fast response and good photo quality .
The last : battery performance. Note 2 battery performance totally superb.
For moderate user like me. 23hours ++ with screen on 5.5 hours. (3g date full time on).
One of the advantage of using note2 that you no need to keep jump to other type of rom such as cm, aokp and asop to find stable , fast and responsive rom with sacrificed your spen features. Is really have not much different in terms of performance in between tw based rom and other type of rom. Since note 2 come with strong hardware spec.

Seem Nexus 4 will never get official MIUI ROM

On Sina Weibo, when someone from Xiaomi posted a tweet
"We again urge those who familiar with adoption of MIUI help adopt MIUI v5 to more phone. Our upcoming plan is develop for Galaxy S4 and HTC One. Bevause we seriously lack of developer, that's probably all we can do before end of the year. Contact mcming_小米 if you are interested"
A user asked in reply "So how about Nexus 4?" And he said "already given up, I think Stock is better for Nexus 4"
And another user replied subsequently "Why you think Nexus 4 better stay stock? Is it because you want to reduce competition of Xiaomi MI-2?" he replied "If you don't think stock rom is good, why do you buy Nexus 4?"
and he also said in another post:
"Adoptation of MIUI on third party devices are based on their active user count within China. We believe stats from Baidu and Taobao. And we also support some local brand quality phone with fewer user base because of our love on Chinese local phone. They may not buy Xiaomi for some purpose, but as far as they buy quality Chinese phone, they are user of MIUI. For non-Chinese brand's phone, other than Samsung/HTC, user base are too small amd it's meaningless to support them."
*All quote above are translated by myself and sorry for poor translation.
But he's right, Miui is not good on our phone... It runs pretty bad. Gone are the gingerbread days. Most people just use miui only for the lighter theme anyways...

Well, if you ask me, this thread is insignificant. No offence at all.
MIUIAndroid mako builds are being taken seriously by Mark. He never abandons anything that he has already started and so is in the case of N4.
We don't need to worry, once Mark sets out the word that his builds are stable enough with every App and feature working, Xiaomi will surely consider it in :good:
The nexus 4 beta roms are being posted at miui along with 48 other devices, so its not completely unsupported. My personal experience is the ROM is very smooth and performs really well. And there are a number of efforts on this from itself, at last count 3 threads in the dev forum on miui roms.
The latest 3.6.13 posted gets around 17250 on antutu stock and is buttery smooth. The one by Soul_Raider on this forum is also excellent and extremely smooth. Most of the bugs have been fixed. Its definitely worth trying.

Otherwise, I'd still be happy to stay with the S3.
User experience wise, it's not much different with the XZ, the S3 was fast and quick as well. The increased ppi, you can tell if you look for it..but in reality, it doesn't affect your overall experience very much at all.

As long as there is stable AOSP I am a happy chappy, and this is something that just isn't available for the Galaxy S3, neither I9300 nor I9305, and it literally never will be either. Mark my words. S4? Sure. S3? No. Don't buy an S3 if you are interested in ROM development... unless you are talking about ROM cooking I guess, but that isn't really "development".
Also there are like 2 usable custom kernels for I9300/I9305, neither of which run on AOSP.
While we're on the subject, you'll notice -if you look- that the actual developers that own an Exynos-based S3 all seriously hate it and have vowed not to buy any more pure-Samsung devices because of it. Speak to codeworkx on IRC about it if you're interested in hearing more about why the S3 sucks. Suffice to say that I am certainly not purchasing any more Samsung products without first seeing some sources for the device.

Agree with you. Owner of a exynos s3 and the major problem is they lie to costumers telling that s3 will be upgraded and are delaying this not to damage s4 sales. S3 is a unfinished phone. Samsung never get this beast to fully working. Lags overall do bad memory management. Even s2 sometimes works better. And if you have the chanxe buy instead a n4.

S3 international version may suck but U.S version is hard to beat...its what reviewer classify as an Iphone De-throner... and I was using AOKP on my S3...I still missed my S3. My main developer that I like are Faux and Task 650, any other Developer I am grateful for their work but I wont choose them over the two i have. Simply put they are the best at what they do and they are currently rocking Samsung and Nexus device.
THe only reason I am not using AOKP or CM10.1 on this device because A2DP sounds sucks (little bass or detail in sound, it sound like there is too much mid or treble)...I had to switch back to stock rom, not everything on CM10.1 here is fixed, but I imagine it would be soon, hopefully. again I would not advise anyone to buy this phone again, I gave it a try and I dint like it, never again. Well, we were specifically discussing the international version so I don't really see how a comparison to the US version (which is a completely different device) is useful.

I remember using the Sony K850i and that was awesome quality stuff from Sony, I missed that phone too.

Krait dual-core, big difference. And yes, it is roughly on par with Exynos S3.

Cyanogenmod on the note 4 snapdragon

Hi Guys ! Is somebody already trying to boot Cyanogenmod ? I'm a reverse engineer, have done quite a bit of development work on CM11 for the S4 I9500 and just ordered my Note 4 snapdragon and planning to run and optimize CM12 on our Snapdragon Note 4

Yes, I'm hoping more developers will switch to this device and will start working on booting and running CM as smooth as possible. I just ordered my note 4 yesterday, I still have to wait 2 weeks to receive my device (I don't live in a snapdragon country), hoping to work together with some other devs but if not, going to give booting CM myself a try and will update and report here for sure !
I'm new to the Note line so I have a question. Does the S-Pen work (just work, non of the fancy features) with custom Roms or do devs need to optimize it?
I would love to see it running Lollipop.
Patience... is the key. It will happen.

The spen will work on any rom but samsung specific apps like snote will only work on samsung based roms. On cm based roms there are alternative apps like papyrus and on the note 2 there were specific spen apps made for cm roms so guess the same thing will probably happen on the n4

"This forum is intended for XDA members to find or discuss development on the Galaxy Note 4, including ROMs, kernels, rooting, mods and much more, specifically for the Qualcomm Snapdragon variant of the Note 4."
Sounds like the right place to me.
Anyway on topic: here's the general porting method: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Doc:_porting_intro and here the samsung code: http://opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=sub&sub=F&searchValue=910f
Unfortunately going by what Samsung released previously, we'll need code directly from Qualcomm, did anybody find chipset code for the 805 already ?
And here's the Lollipop Nexus 6 (of course also running snapdragon 805) code:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/android-lollipop-source-pushed-to-aosp/
Oh and also found this thread, should be helpful to get a start: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2532873
Anyway, getting my device in 2 weeks, hopefully around that time CM12 will be released too, mabye we should wait for that anyway, but I wanted to start this thread already to function as a knowledge sharing thread regarding getting cyanogenmod running on the Note 4. Going to do some digging in the sources codes already and see what's there and what's missing.

Sorry but I really miss your point man. This is development and most importantly, this is Snapdragon: this thread has really not much to do with Exynos (which most likely will never even run CM12, at least not in the next year), so I really don't see in which forum it would be more ontopic than this one. If you disagree, let me know in which forum you feel it should be posted in and why and if it makes sense, I'll ask the mod, but again, I really don't see it.

Wow, that's really wonderful news, you made my day man, thanks !!! :good: :fingers-crossed: Can't wait to flash it (need to wait 2 weeks to get my hands on the device though, damn, hehe). I've done quite a bit of work on the i9500, Ironing out bugs by reverse engineering stock ROM and my goal is to make CM12 on our Note 4 the best Cyanogenmod experience so far ! Man, really cant wait !
I just got mine yeaterday im super excited. I'm really surprised how steady it feels in hands. It doesn't feel like a Samsung device at all. My babe is already rooted and unlocked just waiting on lollipop

Pointless thread in developer forum. Can't wait to see this closed. What is become of xda that anyone can post what he likes and where he wants.

Is it worth upgrading from Galaxy S6 to OP3T?

I'm stuck with touchwiz and I hate it
I want to upgrae to a phone with a great dev support and this seems like a good choice but I have no idea if its a good idea since I think I will be downgrading my camera and display

the s6 camera is better but the display I do not think will be a problem at all.
Well, yeah but you're upgrading much more than you're downgrading. Living stuck with a software you don't like its the worst that can happen tp you in smarphones world, the software its the only spec of your phone you're on direct contact with so it's pretty important

Ofcourse!
I have the very same dilemma. Another concern is the warranty and support in case there are problems with the phone.
I'm currently unhappy with my S6 edge because of touchwiz and the battery for example. About 2 month ago my display broke and the fix would cost 260€ so I will buy a Oneplus 3t.

Imo it's an upgrade. One plus is very similar to Nexus and for that even if the specs were not quite up to par to a previous device with an overlay it's still a win. I'm grabbing a 3T in a month or so. When I looked at the Pixel and Pixel XL and the op3t and op3 I made my mind up immediately. Going to keep my eyes on pixel also and see what happens there but just not willing to spend 800-900 USD on a phone at this point in my life. ;p Why when we can grab a Op3T for so much less and it's very similar in specs. External sdcards are over rated imo and for Samsung type phones. I've been a Nexus user since the Galaxy Nexus and well actually the G1 and never seen a use for them after ditching Samsung back on the S4. Internal is fine imo and I'm not into all the little marketing features like Sammy has. I'll take a clean phone with little to no extra crap onboard with a good camera and battery and screen any day and that's what I see we have here with the One plus 3t. I've studied the Op3 forums and battery is unreal and camera is very good. Coming from my Nexus 5x I can't wait!!!!! I look forward to seeing all of you on the forums.

It burns battery and it's ugly imo. The are two kinds of people, one who likes tw and one who doesn't. Neither are wrong just different taste is all. I prefer Nexus phones or phones like them.. (one plus..) Development is better for Nexus and One plus and there's more of it and it's more stable than on a Samsung device. I know that from owning them all and seeing for myself. You just can't beat how AOSP runs on a device like One+ and how many devs work on them constantly. It's just personal preference is all.

And it even came before OP 3 got Nougat.. that's impressive from Samsung...I used the latest touchwiz Grace UX on Note 5 and Note 7 and it is way better than normal touchwiz...but with Note 7 debacle, I had to buy OP 3...

Quite raw looking if you ask me, seeing the icons on it, guess that what pure android about, quite interested in this op 3t, will await the review, hopefully it does better on the display section.

Can't say that in words.
If you look at that crap which is installed on stock roms you get headache and that brains the battery like crazy and slows the phone down.
And if is even with a theme ugly
You even need to sort apps in stock launcher by alphabet manually with a button ?
If you try it for one year you get sick of it trust me. Even with theme and Nova launcher.
Samsung itself recommend to restart your phone every day to get the best performance and that in 2016 ?
