[Q] How to go back to Samsung ROM without rising the flash counter? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I've got a Galaxy Note N7000, currently on SlimBean 4.2.2. I flashed this ROM in the stock Samsung recovery so the flash counter didn't rise, nor the yellow exclamation mark did appear on the boot screen and that's because because I didn't use Odin, not even once with this phone.
Now I'm selling the phone and I want to flash latest Samsung official ROM and I'm asking how to do it without raising the flash counter or making the yellow exclamation mark appear? Is it ok to flash some Samsung official ROM straight from SlimBean 4.2.2 using Odin in a way that the phone would appear like it have never been modded in the first place?

If you don't have a raised flash counter or yellow triangle (which it sounds like you don't) then I would format system/data/preload etc then boot to download mode and flash stock rom with pc odin. In fact you probably don't even need to do the formats but just an extra precaution

yellow triangle only shows when you flash a custom ROM or kernel (or root a stock rom).
for stock roms, it doesnt show.
and for reset the flash counter, use triangle away (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.triangleaway)
good luck

Thanks for the replies. So if I flash Samsung official ROM with Odin, the flashh counter will not rise and the yellow exclamation mark will not appear AND the phone will look like it has never been modified AND my warranty will still be valid, i.e. Samsung would accept my phone for repair if it ever gets broken.?

[Q] Exclamation logo but still booting..

Can someone help me !!
I had some problems with the phone after deleting some system files (and the phone was looping at boot....) so I reflashed it with odin using Q1_20110914_16GB.pit and N7000XXKKA_N7000OXXKK5_N7000XXKK5_HOME.tar.md5 ..
The phone restart booting normally and everything is working except when it boot, just before the Samsung animation, I have a yellow triangle with the exclamation mark just below the "Galaxy Note GT-N7000"
the device is rooted and CWM installed on the device...
Boot the phone into download/odin mode. If it says that you flashed a custom ROM then you *hmhm* "successfully" incremented your custom flash counter.
Did you take a wrong rom when flashing with odin? Was your phone an AUT phone (since the rom you took I believe is an AUT rom)?

The yellow exclamation means it's been rooted. That way a service center knows you've rooted your phone, potentially voiding your warranty.
argh... my fault, please close this thread !!!
I guess I should have read a little bit more this forum before posting my question !!!
I'm new to android... .was playing with iphones before
Can somebody close / delete this thread I hate to pollute forums

This, my friend, is wrong. The exclamation mark (together with an incremented custom flash counter) means you flashed a non-approved on non-official rom or parts of it onto your device using the ODIN tool. No matter if rooted or not.
The device will continue to work inside certain parameters, its really only (as mentioned for a service rep for example) a visual and very obvious way to mark your device as having no warranty due to fiddling around with it in non-appoved ways. Thats all.

Is this permanent - can it be reset in future ?

[Q] Concerning the yellow triangle.

What does the yellow triangle mean? Why do people get it and what's the risk if you try to remove it using triangle away? I recently flashed the rocket ROM for the first time but didn't get the triangle?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
Yellow triangle appears when you flash custom kernels through PC Odin, and it usually means that your warranty is void.
Flashing stuff using Mobile Odin and/or CWMR does not produce the triangle.
Triangle Away works like a charm if you are on ICS, used it myself.
it indicates flashing of non stock rom which samsung use to see if the warrenty is still valid
*Yellow Triangle is the only thing you'll ever hate about your Galaxy Note.
Basically, it is an indicator for Samsung to see if you've ever flashed any CustomROM on your device. If you get the yellow triangle, your warranty is gone forever!
However, you NEVER get this thing if you use CWM Recovery to play around with ROMs or use Odin for PC to install STOCK ROM! If you install a Custom ROM with PC Odin, chances are that you'll end up getting the yellow triangle.
Though, it can be removed using jigs and even an app (Sorry, I don't remember the name), it has it's own risks. I am not really clear about those either but I've heard that you might end up bricking your phone!

Then why did I not get the Triangle when I flashed the AbyssKernel?

because you flashed it via CWM and those installs do not increase the binary counter show an update in firmware

[Q] note bricked - need advices

Hello,
I own a galaxy note n7000, rom ICS xxlpy, since a little bit than 1 week.
for some reason, I would like to root it, and followed this tuto :
http://www.galaxynote.fr/rooter-facilement-les-roms-stock-ics-sans-cwm-triangle-jaune-t4995.html
it is a french traduction from a tuto found here.
anyway, after having followed each step, i obtained no error, nothing which was different from the tuto.
after a reboot, my galaxy was unable to boot.
I was blocked on the first screen : samsung galaxy note GT-N7000 black scree, text in white color.
today : I can go in recovery, I can go in download mode, but I cannot boot.
so I have decided to send it to repair. it si why I need advices :
- what is exactly the yellow triangle ? where I can see it, how I can check if I have it or not (what manipulation to do to see it ?)
- how can I test my flash counter ?
I was on ICS stock, but I don't know if the manipulation in the Tuto had increase or not the flash counter ?
when I am in download mode, I can see : custom binary download : no, current binary : samsung Official. is it enough to get warranty ?
any advice allowing me to get back my device, with the maximum luck to get it repaired would be apreciate.
thanks
Olivier
My understandings are the yellow triangle shows up on the splash screen when it says galaxy note before boot animation and it is if you has a custom kernel installed, when you go to download mode it would say you are not on samsung official and have a flash counter so if it says 0 then you have nothing to worry about.
It sounds though that your device may not be fully bricked if you can access recovery and download mode, I would try to flash chainfires cfroot kernel for your firmware so the LPY v5.5 which is on his thread here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784
If it works it will increase you flash counter and you will see the yellow triangle on start up.
Have you tried to use PC Odin to go back to stock GB?
Hi,
- so the yellow triangle should be visible on the normal splash screen, which we can see just after having switch on the device ?
I do't have this triangle.
- no, I don't have tried to revert to GB with odin.
to be honnest, I am affraid since I have bricked ( my be soft bricked ?) my device.
it is also why I ask for advice
may be I can try to unbrick it, but what are my chance to be successfull ?
if I unbrick it, this device will bne reliable ? it is strange that following the Tutorial, with no error message, I have bricked it, after the reboot.
( I mean the bug which seem to be in the kernel or in ??? which has helped tp brick my device, will b fix with custom ? or I will be able to brick it easily again, in all case because my device is bad ?)
so many question in my head
thanks
Olivier
You could try to flash a pre rooted gb rom in pc odin. If flash goes through successfully then you should be ok but if it hangs on fctoryfs then you may have a damaged emmc and will need to send away for repair. It just sounds like you are soft bricked. I'm not sure what thread has the pre rooted gb roms but last time I flashed one there was no yellow triangle. I can not remember who at the moment but someone in the criskelo v7 ics thread has a link in his signature with instructions and all files needed.

Just go to dr ketans thread in developer section and get the stock rootable GB roms.

Hi you are in a very similar situation in which i was in several days back. you can check out my video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WH--qVK2h3g&feature=plcp
I have my Galaxy Note fully functional now. Since your flash counter is 0 and with "Official Samsung" and not seeing the yellow triangle may allow you to claim warranty. To get it fixed:
Do not try to flash any GB/ICS via odin or anything. DO NOT use CWM also.Basically DO NOT try to do anything yourself because currently you are NOT fully bricked so Samsung will be able to fix it for u under warranty. Just go to your local Samsung Service Center and tell them you had done a factory reset from Settings.(Make up a story but do not tell them tht you attempted to root it otherwise they will not repair it). Hopefully if you have warranty they should fix it. They fixed mine by replacing the motherboard because in my case it was the eMMC bug. Since your phone has similar symptoms they should also fix it for you. Hope this helps. Cheers

how can i check my flash counter?

if I only upgraded to stock samsung firmware roms, will my counter still be triggerd? and how would I check before I send it for service?
No, the updates from Samsung will not trigger the flash counter. You can check this by restarting your phone - if you see a yellow triangle during the loading screen, then it was activated; if not, then everything is ok.
Since there are no custom kernels or recoveries for our device just yet, I don't think you would even have something to trigger it with.

[Q] Yellow triangle with exclamation mark

I just rooted my phone yesterday and after that, I got this annoying problem.
Every time I boot my phone, there's this yellow triangle with an exclamation mark under Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000.
I see nothing wrong with my phone except that it drains battery quickly. I just flashed Ultimate N7000 XXLSC JellyBean today and it's still there.
What do you guys think is wrong with my phone? Did I somehow rooted it differently?
Be nice, I'm kind of new with rooting and flashing roms.

Ok, this has been covered here many times. Samsung has built a binary counter on their devices to detect unofficial software flashed. That is why, you have to flash via mobile Odin and root with Philz Kernel on stock recovery to avoid that.
Now, you can use a jig to remove the yellow triangle: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354888
If you don't have a jig, then you can use this app by chainfire: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114

OTA Update will not fix the problem...
That means you root your phone with a custom firmware...
You have to use Triangle Away by Chainfire. It removes Custom Binary and sets firmware to Official so you don't have the triangle sex with you every time you boot up your phone
