Not a very good idea dude.
I followed your post to the "t" and then completely lost functionality of all the soft keys. Every key stopped working and then ultimately had to dirty flash the rom again to restore it to its previous state.
so folks stay away from this "tip"

may be some thing went wrong somewhere while you were doing this... i will be posting the zip files of the keyboard layout...replace them with the ones on your phone...
for me its working..if you need i can post a video of it too....!!!

renamed registry key by mistake dont know what it should be

i have renamed a registry key/folder by error!
it falls under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
i have renamed the key under this to @ by error! the key has the following folders under it
IASTYLE
MICROSOFT
MIDI ENGINE
can someone have a quick check so i can rename it back!
thanks in advance
Did you really rename the "SOFTWARE" folder?! But, this is my only guess based on what you said!
its not the software one I still have that under the local machine folder thanks for the response though!
Not sure I understand you...The three folders you listed are in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software, NOT HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software my list goes:
Apps
Arcsoft
DinarSoft
Drivers
HTC
IA Style
LockStream
Microsoft
MIDI Engine
OEM
etc, etc.
Hope this helps.
under local machine there are a number of folders including software system hardware etc huge one I have renamed to @ has only the 3 folders I listed in my first post if someone could just check in the local machine sub directories for the one with only the 3 folders I listed that name will most likely be the one I stupidly renamed!
On my phone there isn't a folder under HKLM that contains only the three folders you listed. In fact the only folder that contains them is the Software folder I mentioned in my first post. Here's everything I have under HKLM:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
after you renamed it, did you reboot the device?
Check the HKLM/software folder and see if there are a lot of subkeys. if not, then WM recreated the software key (maybe upon reboot). let us know what you find...
I just did a search of the HKLM tree and the only place that 'midi engine' comes up is under HKLM/software.

I agree... I also opened every folder under HKLM in my Tilt registry and didn't find those 3 items anywhere else. I run the stock ROM.
cheers guys for all your investigation work! I did a check against the screenshot in the post and I have all those keys + a key named @! Everything seems to be working ok - though I havent done a reboot yet!!!
The software folder has loads of sub folders that are related to my installed software as one would expect!!! Still miffed as to what it may have originally been called!!!
I am using the DCS v1.7 WM6.1 Rom if thats of any relevance

After having done this exact thing, I believe that a rebuilt HKLM/Software folder won't necessarily have only a few subkeys; in my case it had the bulk of them. So I copied the ones that remained in the 'renamed' folder over to the rebuilt Software folder, and overwrote whatever was there, and the device seems to be back to normal.

[Download] Modified Gingerbred Keyboard

**NOTE**
_mod1 has the new .com additions, the first apk has only the smilies modified
The smilies popup and period popup on the gingerbred keyboard were really bothering me, so I decided to change them and upload it for everyone. The only thing I changed were the smilies, and the period popup nothing else. To access the smilies on the keyboard simply longpress the enter button.
When you longpress the period button on the keyboard, there will now be options for .com .net .edu .org .fr for easier typing urls to friends or in the browser. I found it really annoying that these were not custom configurable in the first place, but eh, lol. I also removed the comma button, which is totally redundant since it's on the left hand side of the spacebar. (go in keyboard settings>settings button> hide ; it doesn't hide it permanently, it just adds it as a popup above the comma button)
Uninstall your GB keyboard before installing this one. The file is signed, and should work if installed like any other sideloaded apk. I personally used Android Commander to install it.
Sorry for the blurry picture, but it's the best I can do since taking screenshots of keyboard popups is impossible XD

Really liked the idea of this, but couldn't get it working. Kept getting FC's. Used Root Explorer to move the .apk, fixed permissions, but still not working.
Did you replace the files or use root explorer to install the files? you're supposed to install the apk fresh instead of play with the xml files which is probably causing your force closes.

I deleted my old GB keyboard, then used Root Explorer to move the new keyboard to System/App fixed permissions, and rebooted. I will try again and see what happens.
Edit: I got it working now. Thanks button pushed!!! Nice work.
glad to hear you got it working =D just for next time, install it like any other sideloaded apk, they should be signed and ready to go
Will this work on my Samsung Galaxy Fit? I'm running GINGERBREAD.XWKQ2 / S5670XWKQ2
I downloaded a Gingerbread keyboard on the Market, I guess this one is the original one with some modifications than the one that I downloaded from the Market, I'm new to Android and I haven't root my Galaxy Fit. Can you guys help me out? sorry :/
this will work for any android device that can run sideloaded apps and the free gingerbred keyboard on the market; and yeah I did modify the Gingerbred keyboard from the android market as I couldn't find an apk of the ASOP keyboard. In settings go Applications > Applications from unknown sources > tap check box. If that option doesn't exist you'll need to root your phone or use ADB to install apps via root access.
Thank you so much for this! I love the MattedBlues keyboard.

How to restore user dictionary personaldictionary.htcudb

Okay, I am here because I have got enough pain to find out how to actually restore my user dictionary on Sense keyboard. As I am non English speaking person, I have hundreds of non english words in my dictionary and as well as shortcut english words also. So, its pain in ass when flashing a new rom and add those words from scratch. It doesnt happen eventually, and I left adding words after adding once in my whole life. Perhaps I am lazy but well.
So here is goes what HTC says.. http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one/howto/365638.html
It says to restore from a file which seemed a fantastic and easy idea but ALAS! There no restore option in keyboard! WTF?
So what we have to is, convert the htcudb file to a text file and restore with a app called Tweak User Dictionary
So the steps are Consifering you have a HTCUDB back file on your SD
Requirements
1.Backup of your user dictionary from HTC device. You must have the PersonalDictionary.htcudb file. To get this file go to Settings(on your HTC ROM), and then tap Language & keyboard >Tap HTC Sense Input.>Tap Personal dictionary >Back up to email.
When prompted, tap OK. You have the PersonalDictionary.htcudb file now.
2.Any office suite application.(MS Office 2010 Recommended)
3.User Dictionary Manager(UDM). Make sure you have it installed. You can find it on Google Play.
Procedure
1. Open the PersonalDictionary.htcudb file using the Word Processor. Use encoding UTF-8.
2. You will notice all your added words separated by "|" symbol. Select all data and do Ctrl+G
3. Go to Replace tab and type "|" (without qoutes ofcourse). Click on "More" button, and then click on "Special" button. Select Manual Line Break option from the drop down menu.
4.Click on REPLACE ALL button. Wait until all words are arranged in one word per line format.
5.Save the filename as wordlist.txt. Move it to your sdcard.
6.Open the TUD application. Click on Import from txt file. type the location and select OK. It will be stuck for 3.4 secs and then it will says *** words adde3d. I added 1012 words.
DONE!
To avoid all this crap above next, just simple back up with the TUD app and restore it with two clicks.
Click thanks If I have helped you a little.
And here is already addded words for some countries which is useful as well!

Hi. I had same prob but I have a "solution". U go to system/priv-app/SystemUI and copy SystemUI.apk to your PC. Install 7zip extracting software. Then right click SystemUI.apk and choose open archive (or somethin similar option). Then go res/drawable-hdpi-v4/ and search two image files. The names of images are recent_lock_app and recent_unlock_app. Copy these two image to another folder on ur PC and edit their resolution to 1x1. If you ending the edit, copy back the edited files to res/drwaable-hdpi-v4/. Finally you copy back the "modded" SystemUI.apk to system/priv-app/SystemUI and overwrite the file, then install it. I suggest you reboot your device.
Good luck!! I hope I help you!
(sorry for my eng im hungarian)

[GUIDE][TUT}How To Disable Hardware keys on Stock / CM / RR Rom

Hi Everyone,
Some users requested me to find a way to disable the Capacitive/hardware keys on the Zenfone 2 Laser.
As many ROMS like RR already inlude the software navigation bar, Here I present you a simple method of disabling the keys.
Pre-Requirements
1.)Rooted Zenfone 2 Laser
2.)Any text editor for android.
3.)A usable mind ofcourse !
Make sure you have enabled the navigation keys before you foloow this, otherwise you will not be able to navigate after a reboot because of non functional keys.
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Procedure
1.)Use any root browser/file explorer to navigate to /system/usr/keylayout/
2.)Open the file named ft5x06_ts.l
3.)It would look similar to this
Code:
key 158 BACK VIRTUAL
key 102 HOME VIRTUAL
key 580 APP_SWITCH VIRTUAL
key 143 WAKEUP VIRTUAL
# key 46 GESTURE_C VIRTUAL
# key 18 GESTURE_E VIRTUAL
# key 31 GESTURE_S VIRTUAL
# key 47 GESTURE_V VIRTUAL
# key 17 GESTURE_W VIRTUAL
# key 44 GESTURE_Z VIRTUAL
4.)Add a ' # ' on the lines saying BACK,HOME & APP_SWITCH so that it looks like below.
Code:
[/SIZE][/B]
# key 158 BACK VIRTUAL
# key 102 HOME VIRTUAL
# key 580 APP_SWITCH VIRTUAL
key 143 WAKEUP VIRTUAL
# key 46 GESTURE_C VIRTUAL
# key 18 GESTURE_E VIRTUAL
# key 31 GESTURE_S VIRTUAL
# key 47 GESTURE_V VIRTUAL
# key 17 GESTURE_W VIRTUAL
# key 44 GESTURE_Z VIRTUAL
5.)Save and Close
6.)Reboot your phone, Tadaaaa
7.)In case you wish to re-enable the keys, just remove the '#' you put there.
Last but Important step, Do Press Thanks.... hahaha
