Enabled "Zip" animations Samsung LP, MM**More supported Devices**including Shutdowns
I finally made the time to put together an Aroma of a handful of my own creations along with some of my favorites! You will have the ability to enable custom Boot Animations for those running stock Roms. This mod will also install the ever so difficult to create "qmg" shutdowns! For the people running the newest Missing Link, you've seen most, but not all of what is here. Added a couple of boots and shutdowns.
New version added support to many newer Samsung devices running MM Only!
CONFIRMED SUPPORTED DEVICES
Galaxy S6
Galaxy S6 Edge
Galaxy S7
Galaxy S7 Edge
Note 4
Note 5
Note 7
AROMA BOOT/SHUTDOWN ANIMATION PICKER!! OVER 40 BOOT, 26 SHUTDOWN ANIMATIONS and 45 BOOT SPLASH IMAGES TO PICK FROM
The mod enables the use of "Custom ZIP" animations instead of the QMG animations giving you a much larger selection, even beyond this mod!! If you want to go back to QMG animations, simply just use a file manager with root access and navigate to system/media and delete the "bootanimation.zip" then reboot. Done, you will be back to the original QMG bootanimation your rom had prior to running this mod. Enjoy!!

THE QUICK GUIDE TO CREATING YOUR OWN BOOT ANIMATIONS"because I can feed you fish and you're good for the night or teach you to fish and you'll be good forever!!"
I have enjoyed boot animations since I started messing around with phones. I finally felt comfortable enough to start making my own and this is how i did it:
1 - First is you need an animation such as a video clip or gif whatever. I personally like them to be less than 30 seconds with the main focal part about 10 secs. By that time the phone has started up.
2 - then you need to extract the frames/convert using infanview or similar app, to image format, jpg is smaller, png is better quality and some just plain look better this way. Using Irfanview in the "options" menu click "extract all frames" then you can fine tune using "file" menu "batch conversion/rename" option
3 - download Boot Animation Factory and thank the dev for such a great tool for previewing and creating Boot Animations. From there the app will take you to creating the bootanimation.zip file needed for your phone.
4 - Then it's just a matter of getting it to where it needs to be. You can check my thread here which gives all the the different locations for various phones store the file for manual installs. There is also the "flashable zips" and "the Aroma Installer" for multiple options!
5 - last thing is to give thanks and credit where it's due and share your wonderful new creations with all of us here on XDA!!! Thank you
that is a very quick run down of how I am making Boot Animations today
*****BOOT ANIMATIONS PREVIEWS*****
This is set of boot animations I have either created or collected from all creative minds here at XDA.
The flashable zips are confirmed ONLY for Sprint's (Galaxy S2) E4GT right now!! testers welcome? Should be compatible with Samsung device's that use "bootsamsung.qmg" and "bootsamsungloop.qmg" files stored in /system/media. Just get the flashable.zip files here and flash via recovery
This link will get you to my original post with directions for installs, downloads for previews, bootanimation.zip files and flashable zips (these are made to support Samsung qmg bootanimation)
Direct downloads here for manual install of bootanimation.zip file
Previews here
Flashable zips here
These are made to support Samsung "qmg" bootanimations, specifically for the device I am on E4GT (Sprint's S2). IT'S UNTESTED ON ANY OTHER PHONES!! IF ANYONE WITH A SAMSUNG PHONE THAT HAS THE "QMG" LOCKED BOOT WOULD TEST LET ME KNOW THAT WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED.
I have to thank all of the XDA community for these animation and support over the years!!! Please enjoy

[Stock Boot Animation] Restores the stock boot animation

Someone asked for a DK28 kernel that supports EXT4 without custom boot animation support.
They wanted the stock boot animation. This is the result.
Here is a link to the original thread.
:[Installer]:
epic_stock_boot.zip
What it does:
Restores stock animation files into /system/media
Code:
bootani.qmg
bootsamsung.qmg
bootsamsungloop.qmg
Restores the stock boot sound into /system/etc
Installs a single black frame bootanimation.zip into /system/mediaThis was the only way I was able to get the stock boot screen to show with out flickering.
Basically, it plays a single black frame and then continues into the stock animation.
The single black frame is not noticeable (at least to me).
:[Cleaner]:
epic_stock_boot_cleaner.zip
What it does:
Removes stock animation files from /system/media
Code:
bootani.qmg
bootsamsung.qmg
bootsamsungloop.qmg
From my experience, the 3 stock qmg files will cause a conflict with custom boot animations.
Both animations seem to be shown at the same time with mad crazy flickering.
Use the cleaner before you install a custom animation.
:[Testing]:
This has been tested and is working on Bonsai v2.0.1
:[Changelog]:
2-12-11
Added cleaner zip.
Updated installer to use PowerOn.wav from DK28 (instead of one I found on the forums).
2-12-11
Initial release.

NP. In the end I kind of tricked it into working.
I tried to modify the init.rc file on my phone and only use the stock files.
Couldn't get it to work, and I don't think we can automate an init.rc mod w/o re-packing the whole kernel anyway.
I tried using the 1st frame of the sprint animation but it had a flicker.
Also tried using the samsungmobile splash screen, again slight flicker at the start.
So this is as good as it gets for now (black no flicker), and it's acceptable in my opinion.
I just hoped someone finds it useful, and it seems you have.

Thanks Nube! So could I edit-add files to the bootanimation.zip in the files folder to make a custom boot ani?
I.e. set a path for the parts of the custom boot under the desc.txt and create parts folders with the boot frames in them?

You would not want to use this as a base for creating your own custom boot animation!
From my experience the 3 qmg files this file restores will conflict with a normal custom boot animation.
I should have mentioned that in the OP (I'll add it). I'll throw together a stock animation removal zip.
If you want to create your own custom animation, I would say you should start with this guide here (best resource I've found).
And then once you feel you understand what's being done, I would say you should check out this program here.
That should get you going.

Oh, I should add that I totally ignored the scripting (zip scripting) part of that guide.
The guide might be outdated and might still be using amend scripting.
I already know my way around an edify script, so I didn't pay attention to that part.
[/edit]
OP updated.

Haha yup I figured those threads assumed amend scripting. I remember someone posting the steps to convert amend script to edify (might have been you in fact). Looks like I'll need to do a lot of reading...when I get to a computer

Probably was me or Dameon87, I made the amend2edify converter also.
A simple script for a boot animation would be:
Code:
ui_print("Mount /system.");
run_program("/sbin/mount", "/dev/block/stl9", "/system");
ui_print("Install files.");
package_extract_file("files/PowerOn.wav", "/system/etc/PowerOn.wav");
package_extract_file("files/bootanimation.zip", "/system/media/bootanimation.zip");
ui_print("Set permissions. Just to be safe.");
set_perm(0, 0, 0644, "/system/etc/PowerOn.wav");
set_perm(0, 0, 0644, "/system/media/bootanimation.zip");
ui_print("Unmount /system.");
run_program("/sbin/umount", "/system");
That would be for the animation and the sound.
The files would be in a folder named "files" in the zip.
package_extract_file("files/PowerOn.wav", "/system/etc/PowerOn.wav");
package_extract_file("files/bootanimation.zip", "/system/media/bootanimation.zip");

Thank you for posting this
changing the wav file in there would affect the boot sound right?
just simply change the file name to poweron
I wanted to change it to say something like "this shi7 is epic!!! haha
Thanks for remover zip
THANKS! I didn't really need the stock one but the remover did come in handy rather than going in and removing them myself.
Would this work with restoring the stock animation on any version, for example EB13? Or is this only for DK28?

No Boot Animation?

Somehow my Boot Animation disappeared? I'm running sense virus rom. I deleted all my boot animation. zips to try to get everything off the device and then I downloaded the stock animation and put it in the media file and the system custom resource file and it goes to my splash screen, then goes black, and then the phone comes on. Any idea how to fix this so I don't have just a black boot animation? Is there a stock boot animation around? What are the steps to properly installing it?
Didu name it right? Some have to b VZW_bootanimation. Others just bootanimation
inc
try this name it bootanimation i think thats what virus needs not VZW_bootanimation and pretty sure ur right about location(sys/customize/resource/)
still savin fora TB so dont have one to test
Downloaded it and renamed it bootanimation.zip then copied it from my SD card in root explorer and placed it into my system/customize/resource folder along with my system/media folder.
Restarted my phone. Got my splash screen, then screen went black. No animation.
Then I tried it using VZW_Bootanimation.zip
No luck. WTF!!!!!

I had the exact same problem when I flashed Galaxy nexus bootanimation Weeks ago, and deleting the bootanimation zip first didn't solve it.
After a bit of exploring I found another bootanimation.zip in /data/local/ and replacing the zip there solved the problem.
Any youtube or gif previews available?
Does anyone have a flashable stock boot animation from ICS?
Nope.
Also, there should be a general thread for all people to post their bootanimation creations.

go to system/bin copy bootanimation and samsungani
and paste it in /system/bin (replace if file already exist).
change the permissions of both file to rwxr-xr-x
and reboot. enjoy
i take no responsibility if you brick your device.

as areeb jamal said, u will have to modify boot.img to change the splash screen..
there are a few guides which will tell u how to extract kernel..
but as u will be playing with the kernel, there is very good chance of bricking (or may be hard bricking) your device..

I Created My own custom boot animation but it goes black

So i created my own custom boot animation sized 480x800 with boot animation creator. I tried testing with boot animation creator. It perfectly works. But when i put it on System/media and reboot it. It just goes black but with sounds. can someone fix it? I really need your cooperation. Thanks!

I dont know if you have fixed it or not but i have built a couple of boot animation for the galaxy s. I used movies instead an u created them manually so i dont know how to use the animation creater. However, you could upload the desc.txt from your zip file so i can have a look
Are u using a video or a set of pngs
