Does anybody else get super SLOW performance when charging?

Whenver I'm charging via wall charger or USB my captivate is super duper SLOOOWWW. It takes forever to switch screens, the keyboard doesn't function correctly, and my bluetooth won't sync. As soon as I disconnect the charge everything is back to normal.
Any ideas?

Ive noticed it charges slowly but I have not noticed it being slow while charging.
The theoretical output of the charger is .7 amps, and thats not very much in the smartphone world these days. When I am using it and it is plugged in, it charges roughly a percent every eight minutes. The .7 amps must be just enough to cover the phone being on and in use.
I am currently looking around for chargers in the 1 amp range. My old tilt 2 charger works great for that and i definitely saw a charge time improvement. I would love to have one with a greater than 1amp output but I dont think you can find them anywhere

Are you running SetCPU with set profiles ?
If Yes : that is the problem , adjust profile.
If Not : must be something else, not a common behavior.

I read this on another forum but someone mentioned changing the default usb setting from Kies to something something else may help.

No, mine doesnt do that. It runs the same whether its plugged into the wall charger or not.

As long as the output is 5 volts, you're o.k.

My captivate runs the same while charging but the actual process of charging the phone takes forever it seems. I've only had it a couple days now and I have to get used to killing some tasks while charging because I actually think the battery life was decreasing as it charged.
Incidentally, the display is the real killer on the battery...most tasks don't really eat as much battery life in comparison.

Recent Nokia chargers will work with a slight mod to the plug where it fits the phone,

After Pimping out my phone it works fine while charging now. Yea screen eats up like 82% of batteries resources...OUCH!

Just search for Motorola P513 on Amazon. Rapid rate car charger! And, belive me, it's perfect fit! Now on sale for $5.85 (was $29.99).

I agree with the device charging slowly (but then again it doesn't help that I'm using it while it charges) but I have not had any performance issues.

for those of you who have a old iphone/ipod touch charger block, use that instead.
its rated for 5V/1A output, higher than the 5V/.7A output on the default samsung charging block.
that should charge the phone much faster

I have the same issue with charging, no matter what charger I use (iPhone, Tilt, USB), it's all VERY painfully slow. I've been as high as 1% per 6 minutes (rare - when using Nokia charger (1.2A I believe) to 1% per 13 minutes via USB.
I'm thinking it might be something internal to the actual phone. The iPhone didn't take this long even with USB charging through a computer or LCD monitor. Heck, the iPhone on average was 90 seconds per 1% of battery. I could have a nearly dead phone and be fully charged and ready in less than an hour and a half.
Anyone else think the same?

yea i think it might be something related to the phone indeed. this is, in my opinion, the biggest problem. i'm always on the go and i depend on my phone so much that if it doesn't charge fast enough i'm screwed.

which thread is that? I'm curious to track that one as well. I have gotten 4 other people to purchase the Captivate from the iPhone and we are all on the same boat..even with a 1.2A charger from my N97 (which only lasted 3 weeks with me...but can't wait for the N8), it takes about 4 hours to charge the battery...something's wrong there. It shouldn't take less to drain the battery than to charge it!

About 1.5 - 2 hours

Mine seems about the same, however if your using the phone wile charging it takes a lot longer, which is strange because there should be enough current to charge and use simultaneously.

1 hour 45 minutes from 25%, also I have juice plotter installed and theres a widget that you can put on your homescreen that changes from time left to how much time it takes to charge when it is actually charging which is kind of neat.

True when I charge my GS2 with my Galaxy tab charger its dramatically faster.

._. there must be something wrong with my gnote then ... it takes around 4h30m to fully charge from around 10%... and even longer if using phone at same time...
I had several smartphones and this one is the one with the worst battery ever ... my dell streak's battery charges faster and even tho it also has a 5" screen, its 1500mAh battery lasts longer with the same usage.
Yesterday my gnote battery took 3h30m to go from 100% to 13% just from playing 2h30m of games and 1h browsing... innaceptable! and I do use betterbatterystats and I have few wakelocks that could be draining battery...
This phone charging scheme is really crappy, as I understand from my use, while charging instead of the charger powering both the phone and the battery at same time, I think it only charges the battery and the phone is always powered by the battery alone...
I din read about it yet, but I almost sure the gnote works like that, cause if i use Skype video call for example, i only get a 1% charge increase around every 10mins, which is really ridiculous ...
plus, while with my other smartphones I could take out the battery while charging it and the phones would keep powered, same thing doesn't happen with the note... battery off while charging, phone also off, which can only mean IMO that the phone is 100% only powered by the battery even when charging...
Besides making it take longer to charge, won't the battery life also decrease that way?..

Tips on keeping the N7 battery healthy

Whats your way of keeping your nexus 7 battery healthy? I wanna keep it as healthy as I can for as long as possible. Nothing irritates me more than having a battery lose its charge faster and faster every day. Just to be clear im not asking how to prolong battery usage between charges; I'm asking how to keep it from losing its charge quicker and quicker when the power usage is relatively the same. One thing I do know is once it the battery hits 100% to take it off the charger. One thing i have heard is try not to let the battery dip below 50% and rarely let it completely discharge but I have also heard to ALWAYS let it die out by completely discharging. Feel free to add to the myths, folklore but preferably facts on how to keep the battery healthy and holding its charge very well

but that's something that upsets me: no chance to replace the battery. Used my DHD for 2 years and after those 2 years the battery was just ****ty. Replaced it, works like a charme. On N7 or TF300T there's no chance to replace the battery. Right now I'm using TF300T very often when I'm not at home, so even with dock and tablet it'll most probably go below 20%...well if that's bad for my battery, then I don't know what to do if it doesn't last an entire day :-/ (though that'll take some time)

Certainly I wouldn't let the Nexus battery completely drain but maybe down to 5 % then fully charge

You can change the battery on the nexus 7. Its actually relatively easy and simple to do so. I havent had the need to replace it but I did have to disconnect it. Just pop off the back with your choice of apparatus. I used a small flat head that i could wedge between the sides but a guitar pick is another popular choice. Then just disconnect the wire and take the battery out! no screws just slight pressure holding it in. right here is a guide with pictures showing it step by step.

What I would do is time my charges. In my experience, my Nexus 7 gets fully charged in 2 and a half hours from 20% battery. I then take it out immediately so that in won't get hot(sometimes it does, and also to save energy.:good And also, if after 3 days my battery is still 50% or above, I drain it to 20% then charge since Li-ions tend to not want to get not drained often.xD

Charge early and often and keep out of extreme temperatures. It boils down to that.
If you can, charge it nightly. Try to avoid discharging below 20%.
And a little myth busting... There is no need for you to manage its charging cycle, it will do that itself. Charging a LiIon/LiPoly battery partially is NOT a "charge cycle".
If you're actively using your Nexus 7, just charge it as often as is reasonable, nightly should be just fine. If you're NOT using it for an extended period of time, discharge it to 50%, turn it completely off and store it in a cool (20c/70f range) location.

The battery's are $20 for a new one so as long as it lasts a year I don't mind buying another one. In another question has any one bought a replacement battery yet? And if so does the charge last about the same as stock?

Nope, that was NiCad information, LONG LONG AGO. LiIon/LiPo, charge early and often.

My advice : Charge it when it's between 20%-30%. That's the ideal charge point. Any lower and you're just damaging the battery and any higher is just a waste. As for immediately plugging it out once it hits 100% is utter bull. You see, these modern day batteries found in most phones/tabs have their own resistors which decide how much power enters the battery or if it should enter at all. Once a battery hit's 100%, the resistors kick in and block all incoming power. The "discharging" many believe to happen if we over charge beyond 100% doesn't exist. What happens if you leave a phone or tab alone idly ? It discharges like always. Same thing here, which is why you see your battery bouncing from 100% down to 97%. When that happens, the resistors will allow power back in and thus charging it back to 100%. So you can leave it charging all night and not having to worry about it going beyond 100%. It'll get it's own sh!t together .
So bottom line :
1. Charge when it hits 30%-20%.
2. Don't discharge it (0%) and back to 100%. It doesn't work on modern batts.
3. Don't worry about pulling out when it touches 100% immediately.

Nope. Reboot away. Remember, the only harmful thing you can do and see immediate effects are charging the battery in a very hot enviroment or if you charge it when the battery is 40-50 degrees celcius. It'll either swell up or it'll just catch on fire or explode.

So my One has been charging slow, I know, they made a safety feature where is it will charge slowly to protect the battery from losing its recharge capacity.
BUT this is very slow, I mean overnight charging and still 70%!
I called tech support and the dude said going under 15% battery and charging is really bad for the phone, something about this phone has a Li-On battery vs some other battery tech for the older HTC phones.
I work in security and it is very slow work and I'm constantly on the phone and get to 15% quite fast in my 8 hour shift.
I took it to sprint for a radio issue and the dude said sprint will not replace the phone since over 14 days and said HTC will charge me $50! to give me a new phone! The HTC tech didn't tell me any of that because he told me it could take 2 weeks to get the phone back from repair, so I declined it.
So long story short, it takes over 6 HOURS to charge my phone, when plugged in and in use battery will not recharge either!

mine charges in about 2 hrs. from about 30%, I've never tried it while plugged in and using phone so i don't know about that, all i know is my son has the same phone and his won't keep up while plugged in and using the phone at the same time. (i'm rooted and he isn't, also i'm on a custom rom and kernel)

Yeah..my Galaxy S3 was 100% from 5% in about 2 hours. I'm even on power saver. I don't play games, just youtube videos, internet surfing or email/text.
HTC better give me a a new phone or replace for free!

I think it is a defect because mine charges very fast. From 20% to 80% in about an hour and half. Running pure stock though

^^^^ Nail in the coffin right there... Now to call HTC and get a new phone or new battery put in. Really disappointed with the quality control from them.

Assumimg you don't have insurance your true options would be
Pay a Sprint corp repair store $50 and they will test and replace if necessary. 3-5 days
Call and deal with HTC ..??? Who knows timeframe
Sounds like the was a miscommunication somewhere
Tell more though? Stock rooted..many things can contribute to battery and charging issues.

I am completely stock. I don't root my phones until I feel they are slowing down.
The radio issue was the "sim card locked" please power cycle error with multiple dropped calls.
Sprint guy fixed that by "tweaking" the radio signal.

The phone will charge quickly if it is idle and isn't in use.
The phone will charge STUPID SLOW if it is in use. Typically 10 hrs + to recharge up to 100% if you are a) talking on the phone b) using an app (games) that will truly utilize the hardware of the phone. As far as I can tell, this IS a built-in security feature to preserve the life of the battery.
Example: My past phone batteries would get VERY hot when I am talking on the phone and charging it, but it charges quickly. But long-term effect is that the battery dies within a few months.
The HTC One's battery doesn't get hot while it is charging.

No, even when I am charging overnight AKA sleeping that phone will not get to 100% after I take it off the charger in the morning. Max it gets to is 70%
I'll call HTC again and demand they fix this battery for free or I'll provide them with bad publicity through the internet

My phone will actually lose a charge while charging and using navigation and I have had my battery overheat a couple times while charging and using nav and also while charging and using tango video chat. Phone was blazing hot. Best just to not use phone while charging

THE PHONE DOES NOT CHARGE EVEN WHEN LEFT ON CHARGE FOR THE WHOLE NIGHT!!!
If that is not a defective battery then what is? If this was my evo 3d I would just buy a new battery not make a big deal but since this "One Piece" BS has trapped the battery inside, I am unable to fully use a brand new phone just months into its ownership!!!

The amazing battery charge time of the Nexus 5

Anyone notice how fast this phone charges when plugged directly into the wall? In 45 minutes my phone charged from 55% battery to 95%!
My Galaxy S3 charged around 20% per hour.
Anyone know how Google was able to do this?

yeah, i've noticed this thing averages about 1% every minute, which is good. thats quicker than i thought the 1.2A charger was gonna do.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's due to the Quick Charge 2.0 feature Qualcomm put in the 800.

Does not see this fast to me. the s4 charges faster.

I charge my phone with the wireless charger for the Nexus 4 and I noticed that it charges quite quickly.

Yesteday I was at about 4% and at work. I put it on the charger (just a 1Amp charger) and an hour later it was close to 80%.....i thought it was glitch but love it...
Now I need a wireless pad.... just toss it on there and voila.

Initially, took forever to charge. Battery was draining while plugged in and using the phone. Then I plugged it into the gnex wall wort and it started charging real fast. And the gnex was charging just as fast on the n5 charger. Haven't checked on the supplied charger since. Time to give it another shot.

Just got a nexus 5 today. Traded my Unlocked HTC One for it zero out of pocket even. Trade. The charge on this thing is a beast! Great phone so far.

I'm pretty this is not the case. The wall adapter that comes with the N5 is not Quick Charge 2.0. certified.

hmmmm I'm experiencing the exact opposite. Takes about three hours for mine to fully charge : /

I'm noticing how fast it discharges, too, AM I RITE?!! :laugh:

Won't be nearly as fast via wireless charging.
Nexus devices have charged fast since the N4. Maybe it's an LG thing? My Note 3 doesn't charge as fast, but it's a 3200 mAh battery w/a 2amp charger. Still not as fast though, even with the same Snapdragon 800.
It's likely that Google worked with LG on the battery drivers for fast charging to offset the lackluster battery life (similar to Lenovo's X1 Carbon quick charge). They know you will have to charge at some point during the day, so they needed to make it fast to keep people from flipping out.

DW it does and its quite fast on it to. Faster than n4

I just got my N5 today, its charging right now. coming from LG L9 P769 with 2150mAh battery..this L9 charge pretty fast too.
Im charging my N5 with L9 charger assuming its just the same.
