Anyway to adjust MMS compression level or disable copmression - Sprint HTC One (M7)

I always hate how a phone compresses a picture when you attach it to MMS. I was on MeanBean before so it would always send full size. I don't mind that it compresses the pictures, it's just why does it have to compress a pictures to 15k. Like even if it compresses it to say a few hundred k it would still look a lot better. Is there anyway to adjust compression level or just send full size pictures on this phone? I would actually rather adjust it size some carriers won't allow big pictures. I think compression to 1MB would be perfect.

It will be worked on im sure, lots of talent people getting this device(all across carriers) so give it a little time as it has been just released

Memory Map - file sizes

Hi all,
I have Memory Map with all the UK at a scale of 50k. Problem is that they're devided into 12 regions, each file being between 200-400MB. My Touch Pro won't open any of them, MM gives an error saying 'unable to load' type error. After some research it seems that the files are too big for it to open, even though MM say try to keep the file sizes below 400MB (which they are, give or take). I can send visible screen capture maps from my PC which do work kinda confirming that it is a size issue.
Does anybody have any suggestions in solving this. As I really want all regions on the phone as a resource without having to consider where i'm going before hand and uploading just that portion or route.
Thanks.
No solution I'm afraid, just confirming that it looke like a file size issue... I tried copying via both Activesync and direct to disk in case it was that. 120Mb seems to open OK, which covers all of north Wales... I used MM on my Wizard too but never tried copying a whole tile over due to lack of storage, so I don't know if it's a hardware limit or an application problem...
Ok. thanks for confirming that.
It's a shame MM dosn't allow you to zoom out further as it would be possible get extracts at the limit of the file size possible to load and then build your own tiles of the UK. As it is, this would be far too time consuming at the current zoom extent.

If you can get hold of the 1:600000 road map you can use that to zoom out further. The higher resolution maps you have will appear as green outlines. You can then subdivide your 50k maps and save them as smaller, slightly overlapping sections by drawing a closed route on the low-res version of the map. Then increase the resolution, right-click on a line of the route, go Operations->send enclosed map to mobile device then choose a place to save the map (does not have to be on your PPC so you can transfer quickly later). Of course because of the overlap the total amount of storage for the whole of the UK is greater... it's a bodge but it's better than no maps at all
Cheers,
Tim
I can confirm that the Touch HD has the same problem, maps over about 120MB dont open. Maps 100-120MB sometimes work sometimes dont Interestingly The maps and sizes are exactly the same as I have previously used on both an original Touch and and MWG Atom Life without any problem. They didn't give a problem untill the file size got considerably bigger. Wonder whats different on these newer phones?

[REQ] MS Paint / Image resize for Raphael

I'm sure others have come across this...
My carrier's limit on sending MMS is ~300KB. Our 3.2mp pictures are much larger. That and most people I want to send MMS's to don't have a 300 by whatever + resolution screen on their phone.....
So I'm looking for a simple, easy to use, app that will just resize images for me. I know the MMS software in most ROM's will auto-convert them to some sizes, but I'd rather just save the images at that size to begin with... and send that smaller file myself (also good for uploading to ftp servers to share via e-mail to other mobile devices)
I did some browsing, and i saw maybe some versions of HTC Album do resizes... but I'm not really looking to update that yet... most other google searches around 'pocket pc paint' or 'wm6 image resize' end up with themes and the like -- I need an on-phone solution.. I don't want to be tied to a computer to resize an image!
searches:
http://www.google.com/search?q=wm6+...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...ficial&hs=aGH&q=wm6+resize+photos&btnG=Search
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...ficial&hs=7vb&q=ppc+resize+photos&btnG=Search -- came up with some results, but I've never haerd of a lot of these solutions, any feedback?
hmm, did you want the original picture to be 3.2 MP? If not, then just take the picture at a lower resolution?
Other than that, although I have not played around with it, an app called Photogenics may be able to do it. Keep in mind though, it's not freeware.
Resco Photo allows you to downsize photos. You can select what pixel size you want, or type in a percentage. Its does a lot more stuff too, its not free though.
I have AT&T and they limit mms to 600k. Is that your carrier as well?

I like taking high-quality pictures in case I want to share them by e-mail / upload them, or save them for later use as something..
But I also want to resize them for friends when i send it to phones. and at&t requires it to be smaller in size to send via MMS... as another poster mentioned.
Cropping would also be nice... I was mainly looking for a free solution, but If i gotta pay I gotta pay.. I prefer donating to developers here over paying for product from companies though.
The authors of XnView (a freeware ACDSee clone) have recently published a version for PocketPCs and Windows Mobile Smartphones. It works very well on my Touch Pro. Allows retouching, resizing, modifying colorspace, batch conversion to many formats and more.

Photo Resizer
» PhotoResizer v1.0 Description
With PhotoResize you can copy and resize JPG images from a folder to another selecting the quality and output size of target image.
This tool is useful when you want to copy your photo from your camera to your PDA and show them at your friends using a PDA as photo album. (As I usally do)
The main problem is that every single image done with your camera (depend wich camera you use) is usually several megabytes and if you simple copy photo from camera in few time you will finish the memory available on your PDA.
With this tool you can reduce the space on each photo resing it to the dimension of your PDA screen (usally 320x240, 320x640, or 640x480). In this manner the dimension of files are drastically reduced and you can show images directly from PDA. During the conversion phase a progress bar will show you the percentage of work, if during conversion will be found an image with dimension less then the output size, that image will be skipped.
Funcionalities:
* Select source folder and destination folder graphically
* Choose target size of images
* Choose quality (default is 75%)
* Choose if you want to see the thumbnail during the process (this option can be time comsuming)

png optimizing

Hey guys, I may be way off on this... but just tell me if my thinking is sound.
One of the things I see people doing in themes and roms is optimizing all of the png's for a smaller file size. At first glance, that seems like the thing to do -- Less in memory, less size = better.
But I know that on applications that need to load images very fast it is always better to make them as uncompressed as possible. That way, in order for the system to show the image, the cpu has less to uncompress before displaying it.
An example would be on my HTPC. There are all kinds of fan art and huge wallpapers that change with each click to the next menu. So when I switch from Music to TV Shows. My wallpaper switches from a picture of AC/DC to a picture of the cast from "House". The first thing everyone will tell you to do is convert them to bitmaps. Bigger file size but way less for the cpu to do in order to show it. This helps with not having a delay or one of the pictures not showing up for a split second.
Now I know we can't use bitmaps because we need the transparency. But with such little cpu power on these phones, wouldn't we want the pngs to be as uncompressed as possible?
As I said, let me know if there is something I am not thinking of. The answer could be as simple as the cpu required to uncompress the pngs has less impact that a few more megabytes of memory being used. Not sure if anyone has done any testing on this.
You can try re-saving with minimal compression using IrfanView or a similar tool (even Photoshop I'm sure).
Oh, the I am a web developer. I work with image compression everyday. Thats not the problem, I just wanted to know if anyone had considered this or if there is another reason I'm not thinking of.

[Q] Resize text and reflow when browsing

Is it a Windows Phone 8 feature that you can't resize text and have the reflow work?
I am using a HTC 8S and if I resize any text then it will not reflow. Double tapping will always take me bake to a default size (which is a random size for each web page) and the will reflow.
The landscape text view is larger but it is a lottery getting a readable size that will reflow.
Reading web pages is not very easy of enjoyable the way it is. I tried using the 'Ease of Use' zoom feature and the reflow fails to work correctly once you have zoomed (that is really bad).
I am finding the web experience awful and being able to read is web page is fundamental. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yep it's crap compared to android
It is worse than crap. If I big smelly crap then had a crap it would be WP8 IE

My suggestion for eyes preventing and back health

Helllo! I am Russian, my English is not very good, but I have not success with my idea in my country (nobody cares about health).
I want to talk about absolutely another way for health caring, if you compare this with traditional design and usability.
Now we have a LOT of people with glasses. People take their first glasses in childhood, and most of them using tablet or PC very often, and this is really bad. Also, we can see something like this (it's not me , and it's very bad to.
Why his back is a curve? It's not only "bad habbit" of one man, it's a problem of many people . I think that the reason of bad back and glasses is very simple and stupid - he (we) physically can not see text well, and glasses or curve back it's a trying for compensation!
So, if we want to have health people, developers should rebuild old methods of text displaying, because they are not compatible with our health!
Most of Russian spend a lot of time for sitting in our social network. VK.COM . If we talk about PC (not mobile phone or tablet), it uses 11px font by default! It's not only very small font, it's very low detailed font, especially, if we remember, that "program" DPI is 96 (in paper this is 300). Really display DPI in windows does not matter - font drawing in 3 times less.
I want to say we should use 16px/12pt font size by default, and stop use small font size. It's something like this (if we say about detalization)
Why 16 px? Firstly, it is compatible with 12 pt (12pt*96dpi/72=16px). So, we can use 16px not only in web, but also in Window interface. Secondly, I want to say that "bigger is better", but 18px (for example) in most of font look absolutely different (bolder) with 12-17px, it is unusual for some people.
Also, I want to say about features of human text perception. Long line length (more 100 symbols) is not good for us, and text understanding becomes worse. If we read books, line length physically can not be very long, but in the Internet a lot of text (for example, Wikipedia) do not consider this. Bigger font size can reduce line length, but developers should to consider it.
I mean, that most of children hate reading, because this associated with big eyes's strain (small font-size), curve back and inability to get text well (loong line-length).
Also, some rules are existed - if we use bigger font and shorter line-length, we should reduce line-height. Default line-height is 150%, I think we need to reduce it to 136%.
So, these principles can be simple realized in CSS:
*{font-size:16px;
line-height:136%}
I called it ESI - eyes saving interface, and it have realization in plugin, which load custom CSS for sites. There is not only font-size and line-height, it includes rebuild site rebuilding. I does not make it good, but something like this:
It's usual VK
It's ESIed VK
It can looks unusual and bad, if compare it with traditional representation of design, but I believe it's better for health.
ESI is better, than scaling, because we don't lost information, and ideally we can control base FONT-size.
It's YouTube
It's ESI YouTube.
Ideally, user need to have an opportunity for manual tuning of base text parameters.
It's wikipedia's control (prototype). You can choose font-size, line-height, max-width, and you can change font-family (for big texts it's preferred use serif, but apply it for every element it's too global)
Also, ESI realized to Windows in themes, you can download it and try. You can apply it correct to the Windows 7 (maybe Vista) only, because Windows 8 has independent font setting.
But Windows have some "bug" - you can set 12pt for icon's text, but horizontal spaces are not in theme. It means, that icon's names will look like
«Wind...» int 12 pt, not «Windows» in 8(9?)pt. In Windows 7 you canenlarge horizontal spaces to 85 (I prefer numbers that are divisible by 17) or something, but in Windows 8 you can not control it, maybe in registry.
So... I think that ESI idea should have some support. Suppose I can rebuild every program and site for comfortable of my eyes, but it's quite hard and eats my time. I'll still see people with poor eyesight and curve back, who hate reading, and I believe, that some developers can affect on it.
Now, you can test ESI with my plugin (it's Stylish with little mod) and give your opinion. You can install it using google chrome bit.ly/esi_c or bit.ly/esi_o for opera. Then you can find esi styles for some sites, Facebook (I did not work on it), Wikipedia, YouTube...
I can not post external link for images...
It's good someone's passionate about this and I think it would be a good idea. I hope one day you vision is achieved (no pun intended)
you can do it!! :silly:
