Freeze Bloatware - Motorola Droid Bionic

Does anyone have a list of what apps, bloatware, files, etc are safe to freeze? Theres a lot of things I speculate that I can freeze safely, but I don't want to do it and end up messing something up.

Here's what all I've frozen. Most of these I found on a Razr 4.1.2 "safe to remove" list on the Razr forum here, and a few I just took a chance on. I used TiBu to freeze and have rebooted with no issues.

[Q] what is best notes app that syncs b/w xoom and phone?

I have a Xoom and a Droid X and up until recently I had been using AK notepad to keep my notes on each device. Well I noticed that some notes that I had on my Droid were not on my Xoom and visa versa despite enabling the sync feature. So I clicked sync on both devices and it wiped out half my messages. Apparently it took only the notes that were on my Xoom and they over wrote what was on my X. Not cool at all, so now I need to know what is the best app(s) for not just syncing notes, but syncing them between 2 or more devices.
Have you tried Evernote?
Catch notes is nice and provides a cloud account for keeping notes synced.
Another nice app is MobileNoter. Once you get it set up and working right it will sync your notes from Microsoft OneNote to your phone or tablet. It allows for syncing via both cloud and wifi but there is a small subscription charge for the one that can sync both ways.
Springpad
Evernote
Catch
I use Springpad because they have bigger widget which fit nicely for big screen like Xoom
Also I use the chrom extension ..

UNROOTED Peeps!

If you have not rooted and you don't mind, can you please give me a list of stock apps? I'd like to unroot but I need to download the apps I deleted and can't remember all of the apps I deleted (really didn't delete a alot).
I'd be VERY appreciative if anyone has the time to do this. Thanks
apps list please
This would be helpful. I did the samething I have a backup but I don't want to re-root my bionic again. I have downloaded many of the apps including all the vcast apps.
Here ya go, this is a full list of everything in my app tab (excluding stuff I've installed since purchase) on my un-rooted stock bionic.

Wow, I just looked over my list, MAN that's a lot of junk... I may have to take the leap to root, didn't realize quite how much bloatware this thing had until right now...

You rock!!!! Thank you SO, SO much!!
****! That's a boatload of bloat!
F#ck you Verzion!
Of course Titanium will show a LOT more.
If you root and freeze do not freeze any of the other authenticators like picasa, yahoo, etc. even if you don't use the apps.
It will cause your contacts to force close upon opening.

Yahoo Authenticator is the only one that will mess up contacts.
Are there any apps that would potentially mess up your front facing camera?

Yes, sorry I just realized I should have probably given the disclaimer that I don't have titanium on yet and so I can't tell you what other junk may be on here, what I listed were just the apps that are visible in the app tab, hope that didn't mess anyone up
UGH - I had deleted Guided Tours and News. Any ideas for putting these back on my phone in case I should ever have to return my Bionic?
Just a suggestion if you are rooted and are removing some of that bloatware, don't delete it. Use something like Root Explorer to rename the .apk file to something like .apk.old. This way you can easily recover it. Root Explorer also gives you the ability to change the system\app directory from read only to read/write so that you can rename them.
I have also heard of people taking the .apk renamed fike and moving it to the sdcard to free up space.

[Q] contacts glitch

okay so I was posting the other day asking about uninstalling system apps and unrooting, thanks guys I was able to unroot my phone and return it back to verizon and get a new one.
The reason I had to return it was I was having a contacts glitch. I could dial out just fine, but if I went to my contacts and clicked a name, my phone would force close.
so I get my new phone, sync my account, root it, and check the contact list, it works ! sweet so now its time to get to work. under your advice instead of un-installing like I did the last time I went to titanium backup to FREEZE all the bloatware. Im pretty sure I tried my contacts again and it works fine. then I spend the rest of last night installing my launchers, games, tools, got rom toolbox changed my lcd density to 280, change my boot animation, and disable some apps from starting on boot, then went to the applications tab and disabled further autostart functions. I didn't try using my contacts because this was around 2am . but I woke up today and I now have the same problem. I can dial out fine, but if I open the contacts and try to choose one, or if I type in a number and even try to add to contacts , contacts FC's. Oh I should add, when I want to send a text message it is no problem I open the text message home, click the + icon and type a contacts name and I can stat a conversation no problem. anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?
here's the list of apps I froze

I am absolutely perplexed! anyone think they know what could be causing it?
EDIT: Okay so I did some researching and this appears to be a fairly prominent problem with moto Blur going back to the droid X etc...the fix was to go into /system/app and rename BlurContactSync.apk to BlurContactSync.bak ...now everything works perfect. credit goes to
droidforums.net/forum/tech-issues-bug-reports-suggestions/153062-contacts-wont-display-droid-x-w-gingerbread.html
The app that was most likely causing the crashing was the Yahoo Mail Authenticator. Droidforums had a few posts about it. Renaming the sync probably bypasses the authenticator.

Freeze
Are you experiencing the contact force close only when all apps are frozen? I had issues with the Verizon Backup Assistant goofing with my contact list.

I had the same issue until I unfroze Yahoo Mail Authenticator.
I am not sure I want to go renaming files yet until a recovery is available so I will just leave that one item unfroze.

well the good thing about renaming the file is I am able to rename it back just as easy as un freezing . so I actually just renamed my blurcontactssync back to apk from .bak and unfroze yahoo mail authenticator and it is working great thanks for the tip!
In my opinion, stay away from Backup-Assistant. I've had nothing but trouble with it, everything from not backing up correctly, to poor restores that rendered my data useless. There is another program out there I use for this. Super Manager. It works for my application, and I would recommend it if you are still having trouble.

List of removable system applications and how to.

My Story Skip if you like
I know some people don't really like those nasty system applications like social hub and samsung account. It takes up space!
Some of those applications even use your memory!
Anyway I remove system apps a lot every time I flash. I just want to use the necessary applications and install what I need
Comment below if you know more apps that can be removed or fix some of my English and/or list etc
How to
1.Root your phone!( look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552792 how too)
2.Download link2sd from playstore.
3.Start link2sd
4.Tab the unwanted app you want to remove.
5.Tab "Actions"
6.Do your action(Freeze or Uninstall?)
7.If necessary press back to get back to the list and go to step 4 or if you are done go to step 8.
8. press beck again to exit duh.
Removable apps.
Calendar
The Calendar app on your phone. Like a digital calendar
Calendar storage
I think this is needed for the Calendar app
Google Calendar Sync
Sync the calendar with your google account
Google Contacts Sync
Sync contacts from/with your google account.
Google Search
Browser will still work but you won't be able to search apps trough your phone.
Home screen tips
Who needs tips ?
Maps

News&Weather
A widget to see the news and weather.

Google backup transport
It will backup some things online if I'm not mistaken.
Nice thread would be nice to narrow down what system apps are needed an what they do. I like Google maps an it's other apps but would like to know what others do an if I really need them

SNS and SNSAccount are used to sync/backup/restore/fetch your contacts (and calendar) from your SNS accounts (e.g. google).
Do not freeze them if some of your contacts are saved to your google account, or if you use another SNS app (facebook, twitter, google, samsung, viber, whatsapp, etc)). The same goes for Google Contacts Sync and Google Calendar Sync.
Also, I wouldn't freeze DRM. Judging by its name, it's used to authorize applications that use DRM.
Lastly, this doesn't belong here. It's not even Ace related.

After GMS install, what works/doesn't work?

Hello
I'm about to get a P40 Pro.
Just to go there with open eyes: assuming I install GMS successfully following one of the guides in this form, what limitations are left? If any.
Google pay works?
Bank apps?
Netflix?
...
Just to know what I am getting into
Thanks
Netflix should work but you're gonna get crap, non-HD quality because of Widevine L3 DRM. So I wouldn't bother with Netflix on this phone.
Google Pay - haven't tested so I can't tell if it works, but probably not.
Banking apps - some work, some don't. Better do research whether your banking app works on this phone. I got lucky and mine works even without GMS.
Overall, I don't think installing GMS on P40 is worth it. Mainly because of notification issues - you don't get notifications for many apps. Recently I decided to "freeze" Google Services Framework to get my notifications back. If I ever feel like going back to GMS, I'll just unfreeze it without having to reinstall.
Authenticator works. Calendar notifications works.
Gmail notifications doesn't work for me.
All the banking apps I use are working.
Uber is working even with frozen Gsf.
Maps work, but the first time after a restart it takes a bit longer to detect location.

Does the freeze help better with the majority if not all of the notifications? The main app I need is Pushover and I can't get ANY notifications on it without loading the app, everything else has worked fine for what I need it for
Is there a definitive list of what does and what does not work on the P40 Pro especially interested in banking apps for the UK. I've used a P30 Pro since launch day but currently on a iPhone 11 Pro Max but desperately want to switch back to Android and the P40 Po. Can it be used daily without GSM in the UK?

Which banking app in particular are you interest in as I am from the uk also? I personally haven't had issues with my Monzo banking or the majority of the apps as I get notifications on whatsapp and fb messenger but there are some without working notifications without gms enabled
I mainly use Nationwide Santander Barclaycard and Tesco Club card. Is there any contact less payment options as well with the P40?

How are you finding using the P40 on a daily basis, would you recommend it and what are the pitfalls? I can pick one up for around £450 and it's so tempting to give it a go.
tbh the only apps im missing is messages (rcs chat isn't missed till you dont have it haha), and photos. if notifications and chat worked for messages id probably attempt to download gms for that alone
For messages the notifications are working, rcs not even after installing Google carrier services.
But the main issue o had was contacts stopped showing there, and sometimes it just showed the numbers, no names

Generally in my case I', very glad fo have GMS back mainly because of AndroidAuto and Google Home and Spotify which can stream to my audio devices with chromecast build in. Those things I missed a lot and therefore decided to downgrade fro 147 do 131, install GMS and upgrade back to 147. So far all works with some issuses (notifications + no NFC in ING app)

I did not cast from YT, but I can check if it works.
I cast music from spotify to:
- google chromecast audio
- polk magnifi soundbar
- 2x JBL Link 20 paired in stereo
which were already set up in Google Home on my P20 before I installed GMS on P40 pro.
In first approach after installation of GMS I used phone clone to move apps and it did not work. In Spotify there was no device to which I could cast.
I wiped the phone and in second approach I installed all apps from play store. First Spotify and in Spotify I could immediatelly see my devices. After that I installed Google Home and and I could see all my setings without any problem.
In first approach I used tutorial in spanish - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utQ9q7pCGEM&feature=youtu.be
In second approach I used other tutorial which in my opinion is more structured and clear - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fTIZFehwlw
Both methods works for me.
I also installed Google Family Link and Adobe scan and it also works.
Been using P40 Pro with GMS and frozen GSF for over 2 weeks now. Everything works, all notifications, all apps (about 250) that I had in my previous Samsung phone work fine. All bank apps, payment apps and bank id (those that we use here in Sweden), smart home apps, news apps, social media apps, Google photos, You Tube Vanced all work fine. Had to re-pair my smartwatch (Wear OS) with the P40 Pro without reset (search here on XDA for the procedure). Now it works fine too. All notifications, videos and interactions on the watch work fine. The only apps I didn't get to work - Google Pay, Samsung Pay (of course ).
