HTC One & PS3 - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Has anyone been able to connect to ps3? I was trying to get a couple songs off the ps3 and it wouldn't show up as storage device like it does on pc. Anyone else notice this?
***HTC ONE***

Sup Kao, I'm here trolling LOL

My PS3 knowledge is weak, but I don't think it functions as a DLNA server for connecting to. I think it can only connect to other devices acting as DLNA servers.

PS3 is not a media server, such is Windows, but it is able to stream from devices that are. It doesn't serve files but can stream media files from DLNA compliant devices / servers.

In order for your ps3 to read your files they need to be in specific folders. You need a ps3 folder in the root of the USB device with music, video and photo folders inside of it. And your music inside the music folder. Also the USB device needs to be formatted fat32

You would need this at least since the PS3 doesn't have an IR receiver. http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/5732
I have one on the PS3 in the living room for my Harmony and briefly tried to it it up in the TV app but then quickly gave up.

Yes all phones have had bluetooth for many years. The PS3 will only pair with headsets, keyboards, and mice via BT, outside of the controller/Move.

You can actually use any brand TV that has control over HDMI as long as your PS3 is a Slim or newer.

Does anyone know of an app the would allow your phone to act as a Bluetooth controller for the PS3? This might let us control the media functions of the PS3 through the TV app. Just curious.

Wii remotes are Bluetooth and work? Can I get one of the ones that look like a normal Nintendo controller, rather than those notion sensor ones?

At minimum you will need:
A Wiimote (~$40)
A classic controller (~$20), these come in two varieties, one like a SNES controller, and one more like a gamecube? (More shoulder buttons.) This will set up the Wiimote as a keyboard, which you can then set up as a custom controller.

Pretty sure it won't work. Wireless 360 controllers do not send a signal through the USB charging cable. Only power. Same reason you can't use a wireless controller on the PC without buying the wireless transmitter thing that they don't make anymore.

[Q] Play on device PS3

Hi,
I have a PS3 and Xperia T. I can connect from the PS3 to LT30p media server and stream the content. However, I cannot push the content to the PS3 using Play on device feature. Am I doing someting wrong? have you tried?
Thanks,

I've been trying but without success.
Some forum posts I've read suggest the PS3 implements DLNA media player (DMP) but not media controller (DMC) functionality. If that's the case then we will only ever be able to pull from the phone which would suck because being able to do Airplay style remote control would be great.
The Xperia T help guide is a bit vague about how you can link the two.
I'm going to keep experimenting with it though.
---------- Post added at 12:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:51 AM ----------
Update: I've managed to push M4V files and MP3 to my Samsung Smart TV now so I know the functionality in Movies and Walkman apps works.
Something to note though is that the phone doesn't do any transcoding so the target player must support your audio/video codec natively.

Let me know if you manage to do something. Also when playing from the phone media server HD content the stream is not smooth, it's interrupted. It's maybe because my wi-fi network? or what?
Mugur
http://mugur-ionescu.ro/tag/xperia
Playing HD across a WiFi network is often going to result in stuttering. WiFi often can't retain a high enough constant bit rate to stream HD video - due to signal strength of the transmitting and receiving devices and interference. Also, WiFi often has other devices on it sharing the bandwidth which just makes things worse.
The only way I've been able to reliably stream HD is via my 200Mbps Homeplug adapters or over a wired connection.
The other option (if you aren't fixated on streaming) is to get a MHL (HDMI output) cable for your XT and watch your phone directly on your TV!

No, you have to buy one. They aren't expensive and you can get an official Sony TV dock (which will probably be ridiculously overpriced) or you can buy an after-market cable from Amazon or somewhere similar for about €5. (got mine from Amazon)

I don't think so - if MHL cable is plugged in you get HDMI out and phone charging and that's it.
Back on topic though, I foundthis:

If you scroll down to the bit about the PS3 it says BubbleUPNP might be able to push content to the games console.
Unfortunately my wife has hijacked the TV and I'm out after work tomorrow night so won't be able to test it for a few days myself.

Finally had a chance to install BubbleUPNP and Skifta. Both are good DNLA apps. I preferred Skifta but BUPNP was great to use too. I'm leaving them both installed.
To answer the push to PS3 question - neither of them do it. Couldn't get Skifta to work with the PS3 at all in the short time I played. BUPNP did work as a media server with the PS3 pulling content but we were managing that before.
In summary: we can't push media to the PS3 for now, so hopefully Sony will realise they dropped the ball there and fix it soon!

Streaming music from external hd to n7 via router?

Hi,
After a little help as per the title I wonder if it's possible to play my music collection which is currently stored on an external hd connected to my home router on my N7 without the need for my laptop to be turned on etc
Using an explorer app on the N7 I can see and access the music how I want as above, but I have to manually select the folders and tracks to then play each time rather than it already been catalogued within the player?
Is there a player or an app that can do this to make my collection available please?

Yeah, sorry I didn't quite make things clear, the music is on a Lan based port via my wifi router, using es explorer I can see and play a track at a time, with the bs player suggested above I can play albums etc, but its library function is awful
I'm thinking this is a common limitation. I can see and play music on a thumbdrive via OTG, but have yet been able to find a way to play more than one song at a time even if I set the player to Random.:crying:

If the external HD is connected up to your computer, you can upload your songs to google play music, which lets you stream your music to anything that has the app installed. Install the uploader on the computer and the app on the PC, very useful and works very well over 3G/HSPA. Linked it below for you.

TV out, Miracast or anything like it?

It's driving me nuts. The only thing that stops the the Nexus 7 being nothing more than a toy or glorified ebook for me is the fact I cannot find any form of big screen streaming for it. My 2 year old phone has MHL abilities which is okay but someone must know if there are any plans for the Nexus 7? It seems to be ridiculous to have such a powerful device and not be able to use it on a bigger screen.
I've searched back 10 pages on this subject and found nothing so welcome any fresh perspectives on it.

+1 to BubbleUPnP...
Though screen mirroring is not possible in BubbleUPnP, you can throw any media from it to your TV or other
DLNA enabled devices...
Luckily, my TV has WiFi dongle and Wi-Fi direct feature...
so, once my device is connected to the TV via WiFi-direct, launch BubbleUPnP and select the TV as renderer, I can
throw any media to the TV...
I'm also hoping and wishing for the screen mirroring...
Hi I will look at BubbleUPnP, I've been using Skifta for the time being which does DNLA quite well.
I use my PS3 as a receiver but it doesn't support many file formats.
It's a real shame the Nexus doesn't at least support MHL.
