Samsung to HTC guy stuck on a few things - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I got the HTC one today. This is my first Android Phone that is not a Samsung! I love the HTC. But I am have a few issues finding this info compared to my Samsung Phone. Having a hard time finding in a search.
How do I switch between between apps and kill apps if needed? On my Samsung I am use to just holding down the Home button and I get the full list of running apps or ones I have just used. I just swipe if I want to kill it. I loved it when I was needing to run between apps. I can not find out how to do this on the HTC.
I have been a custom ROM's for years now. Is there a way to un-install the ATT bloatware?
I am a little confused on this. I know once you unlock the bootloader it will always show on the phone even if you lock it back up. Unlocking the bootloader is the same as rooting it?
I need to get my self educated on HTC before I do anything major to this phone. These are the things that are getting to me right now.
Thanks for your help.

1. Double tap the home button to get to the task previews, swipe them up to remove
2. For apps they can be disabled in settings--> apps (afaik) or roots and delete them.
Alternatively, download a custom ROM which doesn't have them, I recommend trickdroid
3. Unlocking is not rooting. Unlocking simply gives access to more things, like writing recoveries. Once you install a custom recovery and flash the superuser zip or a custom ROM, you are rooted.
Hope that helps Welcome to the world of HTC, you've made a good choice

Make sure you get to HTCDev and get the unlock token ASAP if you ever want to root, once HTC closes that hole you cannot unlock and get root/ROMs until devs figure out how to bypass the issue.

How is that a hole? Website states "HTC is committed to listening to users and delivering customer satisfaction. We have heard your voice and starting now, we will allow our bootloader to be unlocked for 2011 models going forward. ". I can even get an unlock code for HTC Magic, which did not have a Dev edition...

HTC will close the unlock tool based upon what carrier you have, and what model your phone is. AT&T seems to like locking HTC phones but leaves the Samsungs alone (except for the GS4). Verizon universally bans bootloader unlock.
The One on AT&T is not supposed to have bootloader unlock. Hurry and see if you can still get the unlock token. If you can, get it and save it until you want to root/ROM.
It's only a matter of time before HTC is forced by AT&T to block AT&T HTC One users from getting unlock tokens. At which point, we have to start figuring out how to either change CID/MID to get tokens via HTCDev, or we have to get S-OFF.

Well HTC closed the devunlock for some Verizon phones like the DNA and DINC4G (I think those were the phones)
There were rumors that the ATT version would not be dev unlockable but it turns out it is, so I would not be surprised if one day they suddenly make the ATT version incompatible as soon as the Developer Edition is more widespread
Just my 2 cents

Ok will look into this. I kind of thought about keeping this phone stock for a little bit. I love how this phone feels stock. That is a first for me!

Just get your unlock code and save it for the future just in case they eventually lock you out. Trouble then is if they do a Sensation and issue a FOTA that totally locks you down (S-Off wise)

Can I get the code with out unlocking my phone? Looking at the website looks like it is only for if you are unlocking it.

still able to root even with locked bootloader?

some apps requires root for it to works.
We don't know if it will be a locked bootloader. Let's hope it isn't and Moto is keeping to their promise to "work with both parties":
http://briefmobile.com/motorola-well-work-with-developers
I would love to know this too when the information is avaliable, i'm tring to get rid of my iphone to leave the big brother. If moto is going to pulling this crap then i'm going to get a htc or something else.
at&t will probably ask to be locked bootloader since at&t is pure evil
I don't understand why it seems to be such a big deal that Motorola has locked bootloader, since even the Nexus S has one?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875580
Is there some sublety I'm missing? Is the "moto lock" harder to bypass than the "Sammy lock"?
What about the ATT and Verizon whole upgrade policy now. What the hell is going on there. i hate these companies

Yes, the "fastboot oem unlock" command only works on select devices mainly the Nexus One and Nexus S (probably a few other ones too like the milestone)
Most other phones have locked down bootloader by the manufacturer and do not unlock in the same way. You can take the Sony Xepria as an example of the worst possible scenario for having a locked phone
If Moto doesn't release the unlocking procedure, it will take time and in some case will not be possible to unlock the device and there won't be any Dev community actively working on the device.
Honestly they should all release the locked & unlocked version. You want peace of mind you get the locked version. You want to risk brick'ing your phone you get the unlocked and the carrier/manufacturer don't not to deal with you.
IMO this is who it should be.
yea..i am excited about this product and posted over in the Gtab forum (since Gtab is the WHOLE of my android experience being a 2+year iphone user)...and immediately was told "nope, not going to get one as it will most likely be locked".
Understood and appreciated but...
Well...look, i don't mind locked if the darn thing ships with working software and has at least 90% of the functionality i want out of the box. For example..as boring as the iphone has gotten, it works so i am ok with it being a walled garden.
In the case of the Gtab, its VERY intensively being rooted and and thats a good thing..because it was A NON FUNCTIONAL pos out of the box so modding it was a MUST.
Likewise if the Atrix works well out of the box ill be fine with it..if it doesnt work so great and is locked down..i either wont be buying one or ill be taking it back within the 3 day period.....
We will see i guess as i am kinda tired of how limited the iphone really is. I want an SD card and the ability to side load working stuff without using itunes. I want an HDMI output that i can watch movies on the hotel flat screen tvs just by plugging in my phone to it. I want to be able to get lap top functionality and/or use it as a mobile hot spot. I want to be able to hack in and get full use of tv.com and hulu. I want my sling box to work. I want to stream blue tooth to my car along with pandora and have blue tooth head phone funcionality, i want lots of cool easy to get and use apps. I want something i can get a keyboard to for content creation or at least give me a slide out keyboard (lets face it, touch screen is not as good for creating content no matter HOW good you are at the onscreen touch style key pads).
The atrix looks to fit the bill where as my Gtab is having to pull %75 of what i WISH my iphone could do for me (netflix being the exception of something my iphone does, that droid wont do). But for watching movies/tv, pluggin in a key board and typing, and surfing on a larger touch screen i could not be happier and am glad i avoided an ipad......I would also like better MS office/exchange support but think the atrix is an over all better solution than going with a win7 phone just for that one piece of the picture...
The hardware is there...the connectivity is there. It is 100% all going to come down to software and execution to determine if this thing is the solution i hope it will be versus a complete waste of time and energy (in which case it's... Samsung Infuse vs an HTC ((and continuing using the gtab )) i guess....)....

Yea, and installing apps from other than the market probably wont be allowed either.
Luckily that was all easy to fix on the Galaxy S, it was so easy to be rooted and load custom ROMS. Heck, there was a root procedure out for it before it was even released officially.
I'm with Allen. As long as it works, little need to mod it anyway.
The only mod that is a must is rooting to simply remove all the ATT junk.
But how can you remove system data( Att junk) if you can not have r/w access to system.

He said the only thing you need is root.
Nah, root and rom allows you to make it your *****. Otherwise your just dryhumping. Let us hope the smart guys make progress on this. I will not buy any phone that does not have developer support here. That one thing gives a phone a lot of extra legs and everything between here and end of life is the better for it. I'm a shoe in to buy this one if there are no other more worthy hardware options coming soon but I'll stick with my N1 if it cant be made to raise the whit flag until the next thing comes. XDA developer support IS NOT OPTIONAL!

lmao ditto on all accounts!
Agreed. I sincerely hope moto doesn't bone us. Although i'm confused. from what I read the Droid X had a huge hullaballo about the efuse, however i've also read that there's no efuse with the tegra2, and the Droid X has custom roms. So what would a locked bootloader be? Are people referring to and "unlockable" locked bootloader?
I just want to see if the Atrix has wifi tether out of the box or if i'll have to *****-mount some other solution (IE; PDAnet). I really hope it either is out of the box or someone gets it running shortly after. PdaNet just did not seem to get on well with my ipad, and my captivate and streak both worked extremely well with the one built into 2.2

Custom roms built on motorola's kernels. That's the big thing turn off with the DX/2/2Global/Milestone/everything besides the OG Droid.
That does make sense. But can a custom rom built on motos kernel enable items like wifi tether?
I doubt ATT will alow wifi tether out the box unless they can control it and charge you for it

That I understand, even expect. However my streak and captivate were able to get it via roms, I was curious if that will be possible with a locked bootloader on the atrix. I'm not overly familiar with the development scene beyond loading roms and flashing kernals (ie I can do it but couldn't make my own). So I don't know if being limited to the moto kernal would restrict you from having wifi tether and was hoping someone more experienced could answer that one.
I think yes..

At least for Milestone is Ok, nadlabak CM6 for example work really fine regarding tethering (USB and WiFi)
Let's hope a master piece like Atrix could be rooted and improved (if that's possible)

Unlocking and rooting

I tried all known methods for rooting but all failed.
Even when you unlock it there is still no TWRP available for the 701.
I asked the devs of twrp on their website to take a look at the 701.
If anyone has more knowledge about progress made on this subject please react here.

Now, if you have fastboot OEM unlock,
,
Then perhaps you can pull your boot.img, separate zImage from Ramdisk, modify ro.secure=0, add RW comments, repack your boot.img, fastboot flash boot boot.img, then install BB and SU.
Just a thought.

Sad part the "Fastboot OEM unlock" won't work cause Asus has theirs encrypted. You have to use their unlocking tool to unlock your bootloader. Given fact it can work, been trying it for 2 days now and stupid app won't unlock my bootloader. Read my S/N may not be registered in their database so emailed them complaining about another service that doesn't work.

They'll get around to it. Heck, when I had to turn in my A701 to service center, they didn't even know it had been released Tried telling me it was a "leaked and illegal" tablet.
Good luck with the bootloader mate, but root after that should be pretty straight forward. (fingers crossed)
I think that unlocking bootloader is bad idea. After that the warranty will be void...

Um thats just lame excuse from companies to force us to keep their crap on the devices we purchase. All my devices are rooted and unlocked and not one has died yet. What a morons sometimes. Strange because I had the issue with the connection between dock and tablet where the connection between the 2 for a split moment was gone when adjusting the tilt angle, I got an immediate replacement. This problem I guarantee you we will see more often showing up here.
And what the rooting concerns: when the TWRP devs have their version for the 701 finished, it will be not that hard anymore. Just takes some time before that is done.
And for the flaming thing sorry, but I don't like to get hit by childish behavior when just reporting and next to that by a guy that is probably half my age and just comes looking in here (look @ date I joined xda lol)
Thanks for removing that post.

Hate returns. Took 3 months to get a refund. (welcome to Russia). Honestly, it was all due to rush jobs on CWM for the 510 and 700's. Bozos were in a rush to be the first, and used the "fstab's" from the wrong device. Bricked several tabs before I put a stop to it. Basically ruined the emmc memory. Mainboard replacements.
Well, I know folks are itchy to get things going. What starts as a joke, turns into flaming.

well next time you may want to think twice before asuming someone younger than you. guess i am to young to know where the movie that reference came from. i already have the boot.img altered and ready to try. also dont ask for it, havent tested it yet so going to have to wait till amazon gives me new one. it really isnt hard to alter, moscow already gave instructions.
Update Amazon has shipped my new tablet so may be here tomorrow (i hope) if my new boot.img works and gives me root then I will pass it on, sadly though it won't be in a format in which you can just use a custom recovery, you have to flash it manually but if it works I will post how to flash it (all i need to remember is which tools to zip up in the entire SDK) LOL.

It is VERY lame. I sold my TF700 because of the slow I/O causing lag that I couldn't live with. Of course I had the bootloader unlocked, so the warranty was void. I divulged that info in the eBay auction for the most part (I didn't say the warranty was void because I didn't know that was the case. Ignorant, I know). Anyway, the new owner of my TF700 emailed me after a couple months asking me why ASUS was charging them $280 for fixing the faulty touchscreen. They said ASUS says it's not under warranty because of the unlocked bootloader. I felt bad for the new owners, having to fork out the money. They're $800 into the TF700 w/dock at this point.
So I would say: Think twice before unlocking the bootloader on the TF701, when custom-recovery even comes out for it.
Personally, with my TF701 that I ordered on newgg today, I am going to leave the bootloader locked for awhile. I can live with the stock ROM, hopefully with root access. Maybe after a few months I'll unlock the bootloader. It would be nice to do it in a way that didn't void the warranty. What an asinine policy by ASUS. There is no way the unlocked bootloader led to the touchscreen failing on my old TF700....no way!

Gee thanks for the advice. Lets just say for practicality so you know when I got my Xoom 2 days later I rooted it. Couple years later works fine just slow now so time for new one. I have 701 right now and its blazing fast.
2nd let me shine some advise for you. For starters you can't "root" a device with a locked bootloader. Requires altering the boot.img to tell system to boot up differently and allow you access to the "restricted" file system. To access the flash portion of that requires you to open it up. One way or another you will have to unlock the bootloader to root the device. I myself just want root, I want to just remove the unwanted junk and free up that wasted space and install ad blocking software.
What each person chooses to do with the root is up to them, regardless if Asus wants to void the warranty or not. Just need little common sense and know how to use google to figure what you want to do. If your to cautious to do that then I highly suggest not touching it and leave it as is. To me its never a "think twice" once you root and have full access to the product you bought, it makes the device so much better to use and gets rid of unwanted bloatware. Especially the ad blocking apps which helps on phone contracts with capped data helps keep your data way down since ads use a lot of data.

Your statements sound completely wrong to me. Of course you can root without unlocking the bootloader. I have rooted two phones and my TF201, all without unlocking; I rooted the TF201 soon after buying it, and only unlocked the bootloader more than a year later.
Rooting doesn't force you to forfeit warranty service, but unlocking does. (Note that you can unroot a device before sending it in for service, but you can't "relock" an unlocked device.) So it makes perfect sense as Snake suggests to hold off on unlocking, at least until you are sure all the hardware in your device is working perfectly.

You can use a windows app called Virtuous Ten Studio (created by Diamondback ) Senior Mod and RD. It'll unpack your boot.img to allow editing ramdisk. Heck, it'll also de-odex, decompile apks with built in support for most API levels in a windows UI. No need to mess with apktools and such.
Free version in the XDA forums. Think you have to install latest MS .Net though. Can't remember. Give it a go. If you're a ROM cooker, it's a must.
An unlocked bootloader is usually 90% of the battle when getting full root (full means system RW access). Locked bootloaders is why rooting can involve finding exploits, which is why so many root apps are out there. Not saying what worked on the Acer 500/501, 510/511 and 700/701 tabs will work for the TF701, but it's worth investigating.

Ha, I use a dual boot (win7 and Ubuntu). Old lappy didn't run too well with VM. Need any help, shoot me a PM. Will share what I know.
There's a few other things you can do im Ramdisk, like increase read ahead cache, run a service to update lto.dat automatically (GPS) and a few others.
I only boot to win7 when I want to unpack/repack and boot images when I do kernel builds. (I'm lazy)

Yeah that works just pain to have to shut down windows to boot ubuntu. My PC is a power house, set VMware with 4gb of RAM and still not slowing my PC down LOL.
well new tablet in and little troubleshooting seems problem is bad charge cable, new one starts to charge 1/2 way in, other little flaky. but even new tablet fresh out of box wont let me unlock it so asus tw asked for screen shot of my ids, waiting reply.

What's needed to work on the Bootloader

What are we needing in order to figure out how to unlock or bypass the AT&T Bootloader?
I downloaded the stock files and have the aboot.mbn and the sbl1/sdi.mdn files. I have never worked on bootloader files before, but have some experience modding kernel and ROM level code.
This may be ignorant on my part - but since we have the files, couldn't we open and manipulate the code that is currently restricting 3rd party recoveries, kernels and ROMS?
What is needed? And/or, could we not utilize the modified bootloaders from another device with similar architecture? Perhaps like the Note 3 or even the S4; not to mention the T-Mobile S5? Since the T-Mobile and AT&T versions of all Samsung phones are almost identical, I would assume that would be the easist route - at least to help determine the differences that are restricting our device.....
Let me know if anyone needs these files or has info on what to look for within them.... I'm happy to mod anything on my end.
Thanks !
Because it is locked we can't just flash over it with another one due to signatures and miss match.
Need to research into the os and associated code to find an exploit that can be used like safestrap.

Or if someone that works at AT&T or Samsung would be nice enough to leak a signing key or a signed unlocked bootloader.
Key from Tmobile S5
T-mobile S5 is rooted. Can we find the signing key used for Tmobile phones? Is there is a remote chance keys are same?
Will recoveries on Tmobile and ATT phone be same?

Thats a good question. I wonder if we know how many keys the S5 will accept for signed updates? I.e. Is there a Samsung and a AT&T key for all S5's or is it per model or is it derived somehow from the IEMI.
Why would the developers even waste their time on the AT&T S5? They know the story behind it. Same ol' thing. I would rather have them actually develop roms on the T-Mobile S5, which we all can use btw, instead of wasting time on trying to unlock the bootloader. If it could be hacked, it would have, LONG AGO!

How would the key used for the G900T be helpful? Its not like the key is on some partition somewhere

Well to be fair, if you took the best developers and hardware/software hackers in the world and put them in a room with an amazing salary.. it would be hacked..
So lets not say that its impossible. It is just extremely difficult and beyond the scope of the few developers (if any) that are still around trying to crack into it. The problem is that there aren't that many people that just want to sit around trying to figure out a way to make it work, they would rather move to different phones and carriers instead, because its just overall easier.

Yep, hate to burst anyone's bubble who has a G900A, but it's not going to happen... EVER. Options are to hold out for a developer edition phone from Samsung or get a T-mobile version... which is exactly the same thing minus the restrictions. Or if you are pissed at AT&T, just find another carrier. Maybe if there was enough churn from this, they would stop doing it.

Exactly. It can be done and it will be done. Anyone thinking otherwise is pretty naive. But then again, it's expected from those who don't even have the AT&T model, but continue to post in the AT&T section.

No. Again, there is a difference from root and unlocking the bootloader. I was referring to the bootloader as that's what this thread is discussing. I never said it was impossible, it is quite possible just takes a lot of hard work. My prediction is that it will never be fully unlocked.

I think the problem is SELinux is an extremely tough nut to crack(and I'm guessing you could easily get a six figure payday for an unknown SELinux/PaX kernel exploit in the black market at this point). Pretty much every linux kernel vulnerability exploit code I've seen fails on all of my boxes with SELinux, PAX and hardened GCC(one of these protection mechanisms always ends up killing the exploit before it can deliver its payload). Do we know exactly what SELinux and PAX(if any) features were enabled in the .config that Samsung used to compile the kernel (and if a hardened toolchain was used for the userland)? At least from what I've seen a properly configured SELinux box with Pax and hardened GCC is one of the toughest boxes to crack. I guess what we can hope for is that someone at Samsung did something stupid otherwise its quite possible we could be waiting for awhile(unless a key or signed unlocked bootloader leaks).
(edit: This applies to getting root through a kernel exploit.(Although with SELinux that isn't enough you need to not only be UID0 root but you also have to switch the role to sysadm_r. The bootloader I'm not 100 percent sure on the secure boot process but my understanding from reading other dev's threads is that this will be even harder than getting a root escalation in the SELinux kernel). Although if we could crack the bl we could just inject root easily.

[Q] One click root methods?

Hey, all. I recently purchased the HTC Desire 510 last Saturday, and so I've been trying to find a way to root it. Ya see, I don't own a computer, and there's no one readily able to lend me theirs. So, a one click would be awesome. But, to my chagrin, Framaroot isn't working. Does anyone know of a one click root app that would allow me to root this phone?
The stock experience has become kind of dull, I'm so used to having a high degree of customization on my phone, as I also own a Samsung Epic 4G Touch and a defunct Nexus 7.
Heh, I got my 510 on Saturday, too. You're not also in Chicago, are you?
I had the same problem with one click/apk roots on my 510, none worked. Towelroot worked great on my LG, but this is my first HTC and it appears you need a computer for the first step, unlocking the bootloader. I tried to do the manual bootloader method of going into the Windows command line to get the phone's token ID and blah blah blah, but that didn't work either as I kept running into the dreaded 'waiting for device' message.
So far the only way I've found that works for me was with this Windows program, which automates the HTC bootloader unlock process. You can root once you've done that, though I haven't gotten around to that part yet. I'm not allowed to post a link, it's called Kingo at kingoapp dot com.
Nah, man. I'm in Brooklyn NY ?
So the only way for me to root it would require a computer? Damn, I can't get access to one until further notice.
I'd have to unlock the bootloader, eh? Dang, so I'm stuck on stock KitKat, at least until this phone recieves the Lollipop update. Who knows how long THAT'S gonna take.
Thanks for the info, though, man. At least I can stop constantly checking Framaroot & Towelroot with my fingers crossed lol.
I'm pretty sure it requires a computer for the bootloader thing, but like I said, I've only been working with HTC as long as you have so I could be wrong.
So far I've been unable to get a working recovery image to flash, but I haven't done this before and I could be completely boning it. Some things I've read seem to imply that this may be because this is the first 64 bit Android phone, so we may have to just wait until something specific is made for it.
But damn, I really wish I could easily disable Sense and go back to vanilla, I hate all the flashy shiny ****.
I think I can help!
I have a HTC desire 510 too and also have no access to a computer. I have doing a lot of research on rooting over the last few days, because this stupid phone has no storage space at all. I kept running into road blocks everywhere like looked, until I found Know ok kingroot. I am still researching right now, so I haven't tried it yet, but I plan to tomorrow night. I just wanted to know everything there is to know about rooting before I don't it. I have my mind made up about it already and I am going to root my phone somehow
I hoped this helps you, after I try it tomorrow I'll post if it works or not. I don't know that I saw a list of HTC phones that Kingroot works on and the HTC desire 510 is on the list. As of if you try it before I get to after work tomorrow, please let me know. I am super excited for tomorrow night, good luck to you.

You're gonna need a computer to unlock the bootloader first, there's no way around that.
You should probably read some more so you could learn like everybody else here... It's really not that complicated and the tutorials are pretty clear.

Waiting for root?

Got my brand new S10+ yesterday, and found out that no one rooted it yet (am I right?).
Migrating from a previous phone to a new one usually takes me a couple of hours of setting up everything, and a couple more of fiddling around, and I'll hate to do it twice.
I'm guessing its going to take a similar amount of time for many of you guys that likes everything customized & tailored.
So... what do you say?
Migrate (and then when a safe rooting method is out there - repeat everything)?
Wait for root while your brand new & shiny phone smiles at you from your desk while collecting dust?
How long do you think we'll wait until someone comes up with a rooting solution?
I'm gonna set mine up and use it like normal, just no updating at all until a root methods is discovered, preferably one with an unlocked bootloader and that doesn't trip Knox. I haven't had a Galaxy device since the Note 4, Knox is still a thing, right?
Also, I assume you tried unlocked the bootloader in developer options and it didn't work?
Rooting has become a more difficult process in the last few recent years. I'm pretty sure the snapdragon variant is the one that likely won't get a root method or that it will be a long while until it comes around - I could be wrong and not trying to spread misinformation...
Truth be told, the Galaxy s8 was the first phone I felt I didn't need to have root with. The ability to remove apps out of the box, freezing unneeded apps, and substratum for theming really helped with that. I can't wait for my s10 to get here Friday. I don't expect root, but with the new UI, and hopefully, the ability to theme or have a dark mode once again will likely stem that feeling to need root.
While I can obviously live without root since I did pre-order this phone, i will still be a bit sad without Viper4Android

You're going to have to post a model # or something US/International Snapdragon/Exynos before anyone can answer that question. Exynos=root, US Snapdragon=probably never.

I did see that option under the dev menu, but I didnt try to use it, because AFAIK, bootloader unlocking is only the first step towards a properly rooted device....
Is there any advantage for unlocking the bootloader (before a rooting method is discovered) that I'm missing?

When you unlock the boot loader, it’ll factory reset your device, including wiping internal sd card. Best to go ahead and do that sooner than later imo

I'm aware that rooting will wipe my device clean - thats the reason I brought the question up...
But - are there any other steps in the currently known Samsung rooting methods that will also wipe my phone?
In other words - if I'll unlock the bootloader now (and factory reset my phone) - will I be able to root & keep my data and setup in the future (once a rooting method is discovered)?
My main reason for wanting root is call recording and Swift installer support. But I think maybe Swift installer is now working on Pie? I haven't confirmed that yet. But call recording has been a valuable tool for me. I hope one day someone, an app or whatever, can get it working on Pie without root.
Titanium Backup (to delete some system apps) is also nice. I still have my rooted 6T but I doubt I'll be using it much after I get my S10(E) tomorrow.

Oh man don't even mention Titanium Backup. I had many rooted Moto phones from the original thru the G4 and even did some rom development with them. Titanium Backup was one of the first and best apps I ever paid for. The one good thing about Motos though , it was almost impossible to brick a Moto.
Guys, anyone having issues locating developer options after tapping the Build number 7 times??
First time with pie? Why are you trolling the forum reposting this question instead of spending a minute looking?
After you tap build number and it tells you that developer options have been enabled, go back to the top level menu and scroll all the way down. It's at the very bottom.
