HTC Sensation XL digitizer has a mind of its own! - HTC Sensation XL

Hello!
This is my first topic on XDA but I think this is the right section to post this at. So my problem is that I have a HTC Sensation XL which I got back in Januari 2012. It's a decent phone in my opinion but I have a really annoying problem with this phone.
First off, my phone is rooted. I am not a pro at rooting and using custom roms because it was my friend who rooted it, @devstaff.
So, when I start up my phone it works perfect and smooth until a few minutes in when my touchscreen just stops working and also the 4 touch buttons below the display. I think it's the digitizer which is a bit crazy because my volume buttons and the off button works. When I try to lock the phone by pressing the off button it has a delay to ''darken'' the screen compared when it is working normal. And after I have locked it I can't make it light up again so I have to restart the phone my picking out the battery. I have tried to factory reset the phone via recovery too, but the problem still comes back. I have read that I can press the off button hard to make it nudge the digitizer but that was on the HTC HD and I don't know if it works on this phone.
That was all I know about the problem and I really want to fix this because I haven't used it since November 2012. And I couldn't find this same problem on the forum so I will post this.
Cheers!

Nexus One Screen Accuracy Issues

Hi
I purchased my AT&T 3G compatible Nexus One the first day it went on sale, I just updated to Froyo and I notice that sometimes my screen fails to respond. I have to power on and off my screen for the issue to go away. Some examples are when im typing and I hit and key and it chooses another one or i'm trying to scroll on the menu and even if im picking something from the top the phone highlights the menu icon at the bottom. Are this issue just with my phone? has anybody been able to fix this?, If i call HTC support and they send me and new phone will it have the same issues?
Please guys let me know... this is driving me crazy

the screen on this phone blows... plain and simple... you will just have to get used to it...
do you think i should get rid of it?
Hi,
Don't get rid of the phone. You don't have to reboot, just lock the screen by pressing the power button, then unlock it. I've had it a couple of times but it goes away when I do that.
Also, be aware that it's very sensitive to any part of your hand that might be leaning over the edge of the screen, or hovering over the touch buttons. For example if my finger is hovering over the home button but not touching it, and then I touch somewhere higher up on the screen, it may respond as if I had pressed menu.

So...are you saying we are holding the phone the wrong way? Lol.
the nexus has this issue with the screen. its not a big deal, just lock the screen and unlock it, it fixes the problem. its some kind of mis calibration issue. yeah it sucks, but not the end of the world. only takes 2 seconds to fix it.

Heehee. I guess Android isn't immune to that either. Nor is the EVO or Droid Incredible (not identical problems but they're still there). I think it's inevitable that as we try and jam more and more "magic" into a single unit, things start to crosstalk in unpredictable ways and glitches emerge.
I have to say, the touch-sensitive buttons on Milestone & N1 really throw off people who haven't used them before. If I pull up a picture or video and I'm showing it to someone, inevitably they clutch the phone with a finger on a touch button, and then I have to get them back into the app and explain what not to touch. That's one reason I'd rather have physical buttons such as on the Desire.
I have this touchscreen problem as well, and yes its a big deal for me! I spent $580.00 for this phone. This shouldnt be happening at all! I've tried all sorts of troubleshooting(deleting cache partition, updating to the latest froyo, restoring factory settings, tried without installing 3rd party softwares, etc..) before i finally came to the realization that this is a hardware issue. Ive tried narrowing down to possibly when and how it occurs, but you can't. It just happens when it happens. It's impossible to predict. When this problem occurs, watch closely to where the calibration is off. During the problem, the calibration is only off on the bottom half of the screen, more so close to the bottom right. The top part will work perfectly. You can test this out by swiping left to right or vice versa on the homescreen. This problem will also affect the Pinch-to-Zoom in Browser, and the ability to type correctly using the default keyboard or 3rd party's like Swype. I received an exchange thru HTC a couple days ago, and not only was this exact touchscreen issue prevalent in this unit, but also it suffered from the purplish screen tint. This issue seems to have existed since they first launched this phone, but for some reason there has been no fix for it. It's funny that the EVO received a software fix promptly after the issue was reported by many. Why not the N1?? Because it's hardware, that's why! Feature wise, this phone is by far my best PDA, I mean I really love this phone, but $580.00 is too much for such an issue to exist. I'm hoping that there's only a number of bad batches floating around. I would say, if i receive 4 exchanges, all with the same exact issue, i may look into a class action. I definitely wouldn't want to be stuck with this problem after my year warranty is up!
I haven't had the 'crazy screen' thing since FRF85B, I assumed they'd fixed it.
I haven't had it since upgraded to Froyo too
not hardware problem
I encounter this problem a couple of times and I tested two things: useing trackball I ran touch sens app and tested the touch sensor, it was fine, second I killed all apps using a task man and it fixed the issue. I am on froyo.
Sent by my Nexus one.
I experienced this yesterday for the first time on FRF91 (unrooted Stock build). I couldn't press the "enter" button on stock keyboard. It just kept choosing Delete instead. Lock/unlock screen via power button sorted it.
So the problem is still there in latest build of FroYo (for me anyhow!)
Anyone else?
I've had this problem ever since I got my N1. Sometimes made me want to switch back to my iPhone! Makes it a lot harder for my son (2 1/2) to use the phone too.
Seems reports are mixed to whether froyo fixes it or not. But it gives me hope. I've been using CM5.0.8, holding out for their final release but this gives me a reason to try MCR.
I have upgraded to FroYo FRF91 but still see the same issue.
Sometimes I face with the calibration's flaw for the left bottom corner of the touch screen.
What a shame I have paid 750$ here for this phone. I really love it but this flaw screwed up all the pleasure.

i have two n1, one has this problem occasionally, the other one never. Both run same kernel, rom and apps
A quick lock and unlock fixes the problem

So it is a hardware issue? Maybe we can get htc to replace our phones.
Well looks like I still have this issue with frf91.

i think no one really knows. Would be a strange hardware issue which can be fixed by locking and unlocking.

[Q] [Help] Touchscreen Becomes Unresponsive :/

Hey
I am currently running 2.1 on my Samsung Galaxy S the only thing ive done to it is root it, so its running the normal firmware and I'm waiting till the end of september ti get the official 2.2 before I look at flashing something custom onto it, anyway...
I have an odd problem with the phone where the touchscreen part of the phone will become unresponsive for no real reason, sometimes playing a game, sometimes just sending a text or browsing the market. My actuall hard buttons like the homescreen or volume control still work during this and the only way to make my phone un-freeze is to press my power button once to turn the screen blank, then press it again and slide to unlock the phone, then it works fine.
No clue how to fix this... anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in advance..
Sounds like hardware issue. Get it fixed
Thanks for the response (know it was a while ago)
I've had the phone 2 months now in a contract with T-Mobile UK through Carphone Warehouse... Does anyone know what my return rights are? Talking to them later just want to know where I stand when asking for a replacement.
Thanks

hello, i have same issue. Did you fix this problem?
Thanks
This comes really long after. But did anyone find out the reason for this?
I've got an Galaxy S that works fine most of the time. But from time to time the screen will become unresponsive. If I press power button to lock the screen and unlock it again, it goes away. So it seems that it is a software problem.
Another peculiarity is that the keys on the Samsung keyboard are very inaccurate to respond to touch from time to time. Sometimes it is just impossible to hit a letter in the mid row and pressing "s" can put "wz" on the screen.
I was thinking to just put CM on it anyway. But it will void the guarantee in case it is a hardware problem. So I want to make sure that it is software related.
Did anyone manage to fix this either by returning the phone or removing TouchWiz. I am not living in the same country as I bought the phone. So returning it for a checkup will take some effort.
For what ever it is worth
I took the phone to an unofficial service center that flashed the phone with a brand new Android 2.3.3 (the phone came with 2.3.5). A downgrade, which normally isn't a very good deal. But the dead areas on the screen are gone. The phone is much more responsive and the keyboard is not acting funny anymore.
So... if you are experiencing the same. Try getting rid of the TouchWiz before you start taking the phone apart.
Good luck!
I get it occasionally but I've grown to live with it, mine tends to be the kernel recently flashed devils for 4.0.3 but after fiddling with volts mine stops.

[Q] Touch screen problem

I have a problem with the screen.
I can't unlock it or answer calls, it does not respond to touch
but when i connect it to the computer i notice that one half of the screen is responding and the other half is not!
has anybody experienced such a problem??
is it a software problem, doing a hard reset will solve it??
or it's a harware problem??
Thanks in advance??
Try flashing a new rom. If the problem persists, it could be H/W.

I did a hard reset but the problem still persists!
i haven't changed the official rom since bought it
Is that issue since you bought it? Since when do you have that problem? Be a little more specific..... Did you droped it ?
it happened yesterday, bought it 2 months ago.
No i didn't drop it.
the screen completely does not respond to touch but when connected the pc the right half responds while the other half does not!
You have still warranty and you can take it back for repair. So i rather to do that. Don't'do anything you've not aware of. When you root and flash it there will be no warranty...
PS: If you can make a video to see what's goin on. Coz the Sensation and the HD2 model's had similar issues.....
could be hardware....possibly could be that small ribbon cabel for the digitizer that came loose or something.....just a thougt...
Well you are not the only one to have such problem, there is a similar case here in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1609250 it would be best not to do anything with your phone ,just send it to repair
anyway it was just a thougt don't do anything stupid with the phone unless you know what are you doing..... really could be software problem but to me sounds like hardware....best thing is send it for repairs they should sort it for you.....just relock the bootloader if you can

[Q] Screen not working propperly

Hey guys, i'm new in these boards, so if this is not the right way to post or the right place to ask this question, sorry!!
I have a problem with my Incredible S; There are portions of the touch screen that don't respond propperly, the most alarming one, the section where the phone-apps-personalize buttons are (mostly because all buttons are always on that portion of the screen). The other one is the section where the 'install' market button is. These sections are about 0,5cm, so the whole line doesn't work.
The screen is in perfect conditions; no scratches, not broken glass, no dirt under the glass, no water, nothing. NOTHING. Phone is barelly 4 months old; bought it factory unlocked.
I tried rooting the cell, flashing clockwork mod recovery and installing several roms to test if it was a software problem; i noticed roms with ICS and 4.0 Sense don't work at all, while other oldies, like CoreDroid with Gingerbread still won't work perfectly but it works well enough to allow me to finish the initial setup (the 'next' button is in the area that doesn't work propperly, and no, i can't flip the phone 'cause those buttons don't flip on those screens). Typing is a pain in the behind though; it's seriously a nightmare.
The problem is pretty much the same as the one on this video on youtube which link i can't post yet (but you can easily find under htc incredible, eh title, tags incredible s touch screen fail not working).
I also tried with the htc calibrating tool, and some others... no luck.
I've seen that many people have the same problem, yet i haven't found any solutions... I want to hear some opinions, if anyone has any, before i decide taking it to repair and changing a perfectly fine (to the eye) touch screen.
Thanks in advance!
This https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.hermit.touchtest than post results.
If after you have touch problems you need to either:
A. Replace screen and digitizer .
B. Pay to replace screen and digitizer.

Thanks for the suggestion; i installed and ran the app, and the results were pretty much the same; those areas are blank. If i try running my finger through them, it recognizes it as if two different fingers are running around that area but not over it.
What drives me insane is that i'm currently with the coredroid rom, and those sections *SOMETIMES* react (at least well enough so i can finish the setup on the phone and start actually using it). On the opposite, when i'm using any based ICS rom, they don't react at all. That makes me wonder, is it really a physical problem? or what?
I have a solid feeling that your digitizer is malfunctioning, however I'm no expert but I don't believe it should vary rom to rom. Maybe the touch sensitivity in coredroid is turned way up and it allows you to press the buttons from outside the area.
Sent from my Incredible S using xda premium
Heh, i know, i'm pretty sure it shouldn't vary, but it sorta does... what you mentioned about the enhanced sensitivity on the coredroid rom makes sense though; i tested about 5 roms already and it's the only one so far that sometimes works.
I'll try to buy a digitalizer screen over the net on Amazon or somewhere else and have it shipped here; otherwise i'll just have to wait 'till i go to Ontario in a few months.
Thanks again!~

[Q] HTC One Hanged 'Back'/'Home' button

As the title of this thread says, my HTC One hanged quite a lot when I'm using whassap/facebook/twitter or other apps. Note that I didn't get any lag, never in my 3 weeks using this phone I experienced any lag. It's just that I got this hang problem with this device almost everytime. The only solution that I came up with is to use the lock button and then unlock it again and everything gone well again but I don't want to always get this kind of crap everytime I'm browsing or using my apps. By hang I mean that the two button (Home and Back) ain't working. Even after restarting the phone this hang isn't stopping so I'm desperate to know if there's anyone experiencing this problem as well. For a high end flag ship phone, this is making me sad. I chooses this instead of S4/Xperia Z because of it's performance and due to it being unique than S4(Plastic, no boom sound).
Really appreciate it if anyone could give me a permanent solution on this, thank you.
(If there's other thread that had this discussed, I'll be glad if you can help me to paste it here because I've used the search option but I didn't know what to write there so I didn't find any thread regarding on this, thank you)
Hmm... My keys are always working fine. Everything is responsible as it should be. My bet is that you have some problem there being solved by HTC technicians, so contact them.
I don't have another solution if you're stock and unrooted.
