Any tethering apps working on the One? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Wireless tether isn't really working for me at all. Anything else for an option at this point?

Are you using the one built in? I have been using that one successfully. I'm on TMO, but I think this app is just the one that comes with the phone.
You need to state which model phone you have, and what ROM.

Use WiFi Tether free a on the market.

I'm using EasyTether Pro v1.1.5 by Mobile Stream. It works using USB to my Win7 laptop. Also works using Bluetooth to my Asus Infinity Tablet (new feature that came out yesterday). My Sprint USA HTC One is totally stock, unrooted and locked.

Tethering?

I'm running a 2.3.3 stock, rooted deodyxed(sp) nexus one and I was would wondering what apps are out there that would let me tether?

ummmmm the stock rom has this built-in.... I thought.
Settings>Wireless&Network>Tether&portable hotspot
Yeah stock android has tethering built into the OS. Up to 8 devices I believe, or close.
So that won't require me to pay through ATT? Could anyone elaborate?

Yes
yes you don't need to pay the carrier i got t-mo and I use tethering all the time. It works great or download barnacle for creating a wifi hotspot, thats better.

I think this isn't entirely true. The carriers have some control over this, and AT&T recently changed their tethering policy. That might mean you can't tether without the proper account.
The carriers can't control tethering. They can attempt to charge for it, though, using various methods of detecting you tethering.
That's what I'm thinking about; because I bought this phone from someone here and the line is still registered to a Capptivate, how could they know if I'm tethering or not?
I would have increased upload ans download usage but... other than that how could they know?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
That, to me, is a form of control, and what I meant.
I don't know if they do this, but theoretically, it could be built into the system to know when packets are the result of tethering. More likely, is that it is built into the phone software by the carrier, and so the N1 wouldn't be subject to this because the carrier doesn't have control over that.

I see everyone is using the term "tethering" to mean your phone sharing its internet connection via Wi-Fi? I guess the definition has changed -- to me, tethering was always using your phone as a dial-up modem, i.e., using a dial-string to connect to the internet, no? For example, using BT DUN (which is advantages, as you can keep your phone in your pocket and initiate an internet connection right from the computer, although I have yet to see an implementation of this on Android). In this case, carriers can tell. For example, with Rogers, the dial string is *99# so they can tell if you are using data over that versus using data on device via the normal APN.
Yes, I believe the most of the reference for "tethering" is changed from "legacy" reference - it's either USB or WiFi tether, and in both you don't actually use the phone as a modem to establish a connection, but use its own connectivity and share the access to it.

I guess I need to catch up with the times! To me what your describing was internet connection sharing, not tethering... I guess my age is starting to show!

Wireless Hotspot

Has anyone got Wireless hotspot working on the Vivid? I've tried a few wireless tether apps and nothing works. The best I can get is to start tethering, but the connected device can't actually access the internet.
I am trying to tether an iPad so USB tether is not an option.
I am running stock ROM, rooted. I am open to other ROMs if that's what it takes.
Do not think the wireless tethering works on the stock rom. You will need a custom rom IIRC.

I used the stock Wireless Hotspot app in HoliRaider and it works perfectly. The only thing is you won't get LTE speeds unless you tether via usb.

First subscribe to hot spot shield elite from Google play store ,it's 0.99 cents a month, turn it on then the tether treV mod. That will do it.the hot spot shield helps to block T-Mobile.

What are you tethering to that sets off the alert?
I tether Gigs to my Nexus 10 with no issues. I'd try using Chrome as your browser on a PC and trying the Spdy and internet speed boost options. They reroute through the chrome servers and it may mask your device type if using a PC

Hotspot & WiFi Direct should work on $600 phone

Hi pals. It's been 3 years I'm buying HTC and have had awesome time with them. I'm THE ONLY ONE in my family and friends with HTC and all others buy Samsung.
WiFi Direct didn't work on my One X and I'm really VERY disappointing to know that it doesn't work on One too. All Samsung phones around me have built-in WIFI DIRECT option when they try to share a pic or a video. We don't have anything in our 'share' menu.
I tried using FAST FILE TRANSFER app on my phone. It works like a charm on any phone and transfer 1gig of data within 5 minutes. BUT it's not for me AGAIN! I ran the app and the error came up saying, "wifi hotspot not working on your device. This is how it is implemented in the OS and don't rate the app bad."
I got outta app and turned hotspot on manually and guess what! NO OTHER MOBILE PHONE is able to connect to my HTC One's wifi hotspot. They find the network and get stuck on getting IP ADDRESS.
Wifi hotspot worked in previous devices. Instead of making other stuff work we now have a not-working-hotspot.
I really am a die hard HTC fan but how will HTC get users when they won't care for this petty issue. All samsung around me NEVER use BT unless they're to deal with me.
Is there any way I can use WiFi Direct and WiFi Hotspot on my One?
WiFi Hotspot, if works, will do the job for me because FAST FILE TRANSFER will solve WiFi Direct issue.

This app > https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.floriandraschbacher.fastfiletransfer works if only ONE DEVICE has installed it. This app carshed on my One X. But on my One it says wifi hotspot isn't working in my device.

WiFi hotspot uses default hotspot and that doesn't work. I was able to transfer data with LAN but both devices should've ES EXPLORER right? I already use ES so this is convenient for me as long as I'm at home because we all use ES as a file manager. But the transfer speed is only ~2MBps.
As a work around at home I use SOFTWARE DATA CABLE app and that gives me around 5-7MBps speed. Still it needs to be on both devices.
So any of this isn't practically possible when I'm trying to transfer data to my colleague or friend.

I'm having a very similar problem. I've used my HTC One to tether its 3G to my laptop several times, but it suddenly stopped working. My MacBook can recognize the network and even connect to it (sort of) but it says "no internet connection". Furthermore, the WiFi direct apps also have stopped working (I'm guessing the issue might be related). I used to use an app called "Flash Transfer". I've tried several different apps from the Play store, none of them work. It just says "Connecting" and the finally gives up and fails.
This is really very frustrating, especially since I got it to work before. I don't know what changed!

See that's the point. Now if I'm sitting in a cafe and need to transfer 200MB video I shot last night at a party I'll be forced to take my laptop out and transfer the video to laptop and then connect friend's phone to laptop.
Samsung users will select 'share' > 'WiFi Direct' > 'Send'
I can't make anyone else install the app in order to make WD work. Infact why should even I install it. It should work out of the box.
Never bought Samsung and never will but this thing is really pissing me off that only I use BT and no on else around me.

The hotspot on this phone works just fine. It's something on your phone. Could be a hardware issue, you need to do a factory reset or reflash with your RUU. I have had no problems with my hotspot on my One, or on my One X.
Also, if you're running a stock rom thats from a carrier, they like to mess with the hotspot functionality.

Nice bonus on AT&T

WiFi hotspot tethering now works for me. On my former AT&T-branded Galaxy S2, this feature was disabled unless I were on the higher-cost data plan, which definitely was not worth it for me. But the unlocked Nexus starts it right up.
This is great for us. For example, when we're on a car trip, my wife can use her Kindle or iPod Touch to access the Internet. Same for anyplace where we don't have a good public WiFi signal.
Be careful. They monitor what type of traffick is transmitted and can figure out that you are tethering. ATT will then automatically enroll you in a tethering plan and charge you for it. It happened to Me with a different device.

Are you sure? Yesterday I tethered my Nexus5 with my Nexus7.... and when I opened a chrome browser on the Nexus7, it asked me to upgrade to a tethering plan.
How can I get my Nexus5 to tether without running into this problem......... I know T-Mobile gives you 2.5gigabytes of tethering, but is there no way around this? even if the tethering is from the nexus5 to another android device?
ATT's tethering monitoring is based on APN only (called mobile broadband). Their only method of Engle enforcement is that all their branded phones lock you out of changing the apn in their stock att modified software.
If you're on phone or wap.cingular (and PTA as well in my experience) you can tether a pc all day long. Been doing it for years regularly on my unlocked S2 then my N4, and I'm currently tethered via my N5 on phone and LTE.

So...I don't have to root and freeze the tethering file to tether? I can just go for it on my N5? I am taking a trip with the kids in the car and it would be nice to turn tethering on for their iPads. Leaving tonight and just got my N5 yesterday...so no time today to root.
Thanks in advance.
This has been an advantage of nexus phones since day one. The native tethering app works. Sure the carrier cab still try to block it from their end or cut you off, so don't over do it.

This is very odd. I'm not saying I don't believe you, but I've done the same on wap.cingular AND others (but no mobile broadband even in the list on my apns) and I've browsed, bittorrented, etc all without issue from a real pc with no user agent hack. Again that was i9100 (tw and aosp), n4 and now n5. To be fair I don't think I've tethered a pc on the n5 yet but my tablets were fine. Maybe because I've got no contact they let me get away with more (doubtful) OR your Samsung ROM restored the apns to default from the Sim on you at some point and added the mobilebroadband apn to the list.
I HAVE been detected on tmo tethering because they detect via browser user agent. ATT does not require a spoofed user agent, as far as I can tell it's ONLY via that apn. So without mobilebroadband in your apn list you should be safe at least on a nexus or other non-carrier\aosp device.

I tether all the time with my Galaxy Express and S4. While on Jury duty I tethered for 7 hours. I never did anything to hide my tethering, just used an app that side steps the phone home thing. I'm on the GoPhone $35 plan, both my phones have been moded to use the dumb phone plans.
In any unlocked phone that feature would work.
