Samsung Charger Melted - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 General

I posted this pic in a reply to another thread, but I thought I should create a new thread so more people would see this and make you all aware. I left the charger that came with my Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 plugged into a surge protector all day and when I went to use it, this is what I found. So keep an eye on your chargers and don't keep them near anything flammable. I called Samsung and they are overnighting me new charger with a prepaid postage box to send this melted one back to them.

Looks nasty, thanks for the heads up

Wow... Glad I don't use that. I've been using my iPad's charger.

wow. i guess sammy might have some charger issues and should warrant recalls. my coworker's wife had a bad experience with a Samsung charger too. she went to unplug the charger and the darn thing exploded in her hand. he said the electrician came by and said there wasn't anything wrong with the outlet wiring.

That's crazy. Forster past year, I always keep mine plugged into the surge protector. Maybe I should go take a look lol

I have left mine plugged in since I got it. Not charging my phone it is stone cold in that spot. I just plugged in to charge so far not even a little warm. Was your phone plugged in?

I'm not sure if it happened while I was charging it over night or if it happened during the day while I was at work. I didn't notice it until I got back home from work and went to charge my phone.

[Q] Tethering + Heat - is this normal?

Have been using the Mobile Hotspot app off and on for the past couple of days for Netflix streaming and the phone screen gets hot enough to where I can't use it for a phone call without risking burning my face.
Trying to figure out if this is a problem, or normal behavior - haven't rooted the phone yet in case I need to send if back.
Is the phone supposed to get ridiculously hot when running the Mobile Hotspot app?
My Droid 2 would get Seriously hot like that. I just got home with my bionic like 8 seconds ago so i havent experienced it on this, but phone do get way way hot. Especially since they are now thinner, beefier proc, etc.
I started out with a Droid X and it would get that hot when I used it as a hotspot. I have a bionic and it does the same thing even when I'm tethered to my PC.
When it's tethered to my PC I let my phone sit on top of a zip lock bag filled with water and it stays at a nice temperature.
Phew! Good to know that I'm not the only one...thanks.
The water-filled ziploc would be a DISASTER in my house - I've got a toddler and a kitten so the phone needs to be out of reach and nowhere near water.
I think I've found a solution. Hooked a car mount to a fan (that's out of everyone's reach), wrapped a charger cable around it and strapped the phone into it. Seems to be helping.

that's really creative! haha water cooled vs air cooled.
We're doing all this to preserve our hardware that out-of-the-box an overheating machine.

Great deal on probably the best microUSB chrager

This has probably been noted before, but a little extra info never hurts.
The Moto P518 is regarded by many as the best car charger on the market at the moment. It's a rapid charger with a 1amp capacity and works great on the Nexus (as well as about a billion other microUSB devices).
The best part is it sells for $3.89 on Amazon. (Make sure you buy it directly from Amazon and NOT a 3rd part vendor to assure authenticity). Which is not that much more expensive than those crappy $1 charges you find on ebay all day.
I've got 2 and they look nice, are built nice and work great. They definitely put my Verizon, AT&T and Sprint branded chargers to shame, which have a difficult time charging with the screen and GPS on. The only downside (if you can even call it a downside) is the blue light is a bit bright at night. Not like staring into the sun bright, but somewhat bright.

Yea ill second what you said , ive been using this charger for years, It defiantly charges faster then other chargers i have.
Used it since my Captivate days and had no issues. Looks great, cord is long, does everything it's suppose to do.
Can't comment on the speed in which it charges as I don't have any other car charger as comparison, but I have never had any issues with it charging too slow at least.
..and also it's looks great!

Yeap. Definitely worth looking into.
I bought two. The one for me and one for my girlfriend. Hers doesn't light up at all for some reason but it still charges, mine has the blue light but I actually kind of like it.

I bought mine from eforcity off amazon, paid 5.02 shipped! Been looking for a good car charger for awhile, hope it lives up to be as good as you say it is......

You won't have any troubles.
I got one and it works great the light is inside my center arm rest so I can't see it at night.
Looks and feels awesome. Charges fast.
Overall great buy.
Wow, I've had this charger in my misc wire drawer for years and have never used it. Looks like I should start using it lol

[Q] One Totally Dead - help!

I'm about to receive my 4th HTC one:
#1 - lasted less than a week before I returned it. Wiggling a headphone plug in the headphone jack caused all kinds of weirdness. AT&T replaced it.
#2 - lasted about 6-7 months. Unplugged it one morning and it went totally dead. No charge light would come on when plugged in. AT&T replaced it.
#3 - lasted less than one month. Pulled it out of my pocket while (ironically) in an AT&T store and it was a brick like #2. 5 minutes before it was working. It was charged that morning using the original HTC adapter & cable. AT&T is mailing a replacement (#4).
All had bootloader unlocked. #2 was also SIM unlocked and S-OFF. All were running (different) custom ROMs. All were in cases and had no physical or water damage (not even scratches).
Any idea what could cause this hard brick where the charge indicator doesn't even come on? Any ideas to rescue it?
Thanks!

What you need is a sacrifice. You should bathe yout phone in virgins blood than let it dry for three days and three nights. Finally you must say 20 times loudly "this phone is not gonna break without reason", while doing a ritual dance. Hope it helps
Yeah. How helpfull... Please tell me how an S-on device can be bricked when everything is stable. This didn't happen after a ROM flash or any similar activity. Phone goes from just fine to dead without any specific action.

Really strange problem. Some ideas:
- Was it always the same adapter/cable or was that one replaced, too? If it was the same, maybe it is somehow broken and eventually kills your phones.
- If you use custom ROMs, did you maybe changed some low level settings (voltage? CPU frequencies?)
Cheers, Curly060 =;->
Curly060 - same adapter, but I use other adapters and cables as well (office, car, etc.). Custom rom was Maximus 30.0. No under/over clocking or volting.
My guess is that one of my power adapters is out of spec. I use a non-HTC adapter where it generally charges overnight.
I'll replace them all.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
Well, looks like I was on the right track then.
Yes, please replace them and see if that helps!

One plus 3 official car charger issue

Melting when over heating.
Wondering if anyone else had had any issues with the official car charger. I bought one of the second batch recently and most of the time it does not work and charge. I have to move it around in the socket in order to get it working. I then looked at the metal contact at the chargers base and noticed that it looks like it has been heat damaged. It looks melted slightly and cracked. I can post a photo later.
Wondering if anyone else had issues with it.

That's very unfortunate. I hope it's not a widespread issue. The only issue I am having with the charger is getting ahold of one. Keeps showing sold out from my distribution center. I understand why it is a proprietary charger and cable for dash charging. Just wish they would license the tech so more manufacturers could create dash compatible chargers.
No excess heating issue with me, just the GPS-reboots, but that's not thw chargers fault.
Mine works fine. It's it possible your socket has gone bad? I've seen tips break off inside sockets and that causes shorting. Contact customer no service and request a new one. they're hella expensive.

It has been working fine with an dual USB2 Anker car Charger for the last year. So its not the socket.
They have accepted a return. Dispatched 2 days ago. If they no longer have any in stock, I dont expect to get a new charger in return. Waiting to see.
Receieved replacement a month ago. As of yet zero issues, must have been a one off, bad unit.

Wsken Mini2 Magnetic LED USB Sync and Fast Charger Cable.

Just recived the little gem in the mail yesterday took about a week for shipping from China to arrive. And so far I'm using with my otterbox symmetry case and it doesn't protrude the case and no more fumbling to get the charger in correctly. And it works great with fast charging and File transferring from pc
Will post more pictures later if anyone want to see any.

I'll order a few just for the heck of it and pass them out to some friends. I'll let you know of their feedback.
Thanks.
I bought something similar from Wish.com a year ago, it worked great but it eventually killed the charging circuit on my Galaxy Tab 3. I'm a little nervous about using electronics from discount websites from China.

I ordered mine from Amazon.
They might be originating in China though... but these days a lot of things are unfortunately.
I used one for a short time, didn't last long. The magnetic part didn't hold the best, although it held better than I thought it would to be honest but it still wasn't enough. The LED on it was extremely bright and bothered me at night. Also they're a pain to remove if you go to plug into a computer with a different cable or want to use the Gear VR.
In my opinion I'd be more interested in a case that converted our connectors to USB-C so you still get the ability to reverse the connections while at the same time is a good hold if it's slightly tugged.
