HTC seems to release phones with s-off accidentally all the time. Makes me think they are throwing a bone to developers.

[Q] Update to ICS, Did I do it right?

Hey all.
As you can see I'm pretty new here, and I try to be sure that I do thing as they have to be, so before I start, I asking people that know better than me.
Well, I have non-rooted HTC Sensation XL, with Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread) software build 1.30.461.1, Radio 20.5102.30.0822U_3822.11.10.30_M, CID HTC__K18, S-ON and re-locked Bootloader.
The goal is to update my device from Android GB to ICS.
So I got to "Runnymede Shipped ROM Collection" post, on "Sensation XL Android Development" forum, and downloaded from there an "RUU_RUNNYMEDE_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_2.31.401.2_Radio_20.70.30.0832U_3831.16.00.16_M_release_258303_signed.exe" ruu.
Now, I want flash this RUU to my device on fastboot.
So, did I do it right? can I flash this RUU when my device S-ON? Have I do a "Wipe" or something else before? I didn't want to break my phone. help please?

If your device has not been offered the OTA ICS update yet, then perhaps it has not been released yet. What country are you from? Is your phone branded/simlocked or factory unlocked?

I'm unlock the bootloader by myself, so I doesn't receive OTA updates.
I'm from Israel, and the phone is from "Cellcome" (Israeli communication company) so the phone doesn't receive updates from HTC.

I also afraid do this steps.
Just if someone will tell me that it's safety at 100%, and work at 100%, then maybe I'll do it.
update by setting tell that no updates for me...
If you follow the steps perfectly then there is no harm doing anything on these forums, It can be nerve wrecking at first, but once you start learning, you'll become more confident, I've got S-Off, it was easy... Just follow the steps. Have a look here as I'm pretty sure that this is an upgraded version of Fardjad's S-Off... http://unlimited.io/runnymede/

Wait a minute, I have to do this before I do this?? :silly:
(We tallking about "How to install RUUs with different CIDs", not the "Runnymede S-OFF", right?)
To install a RUU with a different CID you need to be S-Off, on Fardjab's you need to edit the CID in the rom.zip, with the http://unlimited.io/runnymede/ one It says that it passes the CID check... I haven't tried flashing a different regions RUU so I can't be 100% sure.

I think I have a problem, big problem.
for S-OFF I have to be rooted, but my software version (1.30.461.1) not rootable.
So I have to flash another RUU version, but the problem is that I can't flash any other RUU, because the CID didn't let me to. I'm stuck.

Depends what you want to do? You need to downgrade to use that. Not sure if that's possible as I no longer have the device and never bothered doing it anyway.

The first one: Which one of HBOOTs I need? the protected one, or the unprotected?
The second one, what is this lines mean?

How to S-Off after ICS update

Hey guys, my HTC Incredible S today gets an ICS OTA update. I have updated it. The version has become 4.0.4.
I have never S-Off or Root my device at all. My Hboot 2.02 and locked. Now I want to root my device.
Can anyone tell me how many ways I can S-Off my device? Are there any other ways beside HTCDev Unlock?
I'm looking forward to hearing from you guys soon.
There is a guide in development called All in one for noobs made by me. That's as easy as your gonna get if you want s off

Thanks for your reply. I have read through your post. However, I saw the topic is for 1.16 and 2.0. That's why I feel reluctant whether my hboot is 2.02 which is higher than the topic you posted.
So you mean I can do it by your instructions?

Well since you have upgraded your HBOOT to 2.02.0002, the HTCDEV unlock method is your only choice right now. The tacoroot exploit that is used with the downgrade script does not work with HBOOT 2.02.0002.
Can you tell me how to get s-off after unlocking by HTCdev? As I know, it just unlock the device, cut the security is still on.

With the HTCDEV option you will be able to install custom recovery and then root the current ROM by installing su-3.1.3.zip, but you will not gain S-OFF.
Technically there is a difference, but people tend to use the terms interchangably.
Thank you for your suggestions.

You can root your device no matter what update you did. you can use tool kit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38963689&postcount=1
But to S-off your device the HBOOT version matters
Currently S-OFF is available for hboot 1.44 and 1.54
if you got Hboot version 1.55 you will have to wait

No, you can refer to other forums too. For instance, the rom i am currently using, ARHD(link in my signature), is located in HTC one section, not ATT r any carrier specific forum, but that rom can be flashed on ATT devices too. Similarly other kernels and ofcourse, apps and themes section too

Rumrunner worked perfectly for me on stock 4.3 hboot 1.55. You have to unlock the bootloader first (I used htcdev unlock) and I now have S-OFF, unlocked bootloader, and full root and removed tampered warning.
