Nexus 7 Case Advice - Nexus 7 Accessories

Hi guys,
since I got my Nexus 7 WiFi almost a month ago and still don't have a proper case, I finally decided to buy one, but I'm not sure yet which one to get, as there's quite a few different ones out there.
What I'm looking for:
- reliable sleep/wakeup functionality when opening/closing the case
- useable as a stand when in landscape mode
- should not cover up any connectors/plugs of the N7 WiFi
- material plastic or faux leather
- dark color, preferably black
- not too expensive
- should provide good protection from scratches, smaller falls etc.
Would really appreciate your advice on this one, especially if you made some good/bad experiences with (multiple) different cases.
A bonus would be if the case also was available in a european-based online shop, as I live in Germany, but its not a necessity.
Thanks in advance, looking forward to your suggestions

Tech21 make nice leather folio cases with d30 material inside, should be good for a fall;
http://shop.tech21.uk.com/store/Pro...02W_Google-Nexus-7-Leather-Case--Impact-Folio
No sleep function but it has a pocket on the lid where you could stick a magnet inside to create the sleep function, I've stickytaped one in and it works great.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that one is a bit out of my price range.
I also don't need neither real leather nor a super hi-tech drop/fall protection.
I'm looking for something for about 20-30 Euros, if possible.

Roocase
I have a roocase that is basically exactly what you described. But it's over $30 from what I found

Thanks, I looked it up on Amazon, but there seem to be lots of different versions of the roocase for the Nexus 7, many of them in my price range.
Which case do you have exactly, could you maybe hook me up with a link?

Like you I bought my Nexus7 around a month ago and spent a lot of time thinking about which case to get.
In the end I went with this one from Amazon and it really is as good as it looks in the pics.
Plus it's amazing value.

I'm not exactly sure, I received it as a gift and threw the packaging away long ago.

although there are various other threads on this same topic. I suggest the poetic slimline, it's what i use and seems to have all the qualities your looking for.

i bought the poetic that everyone here raves about. it looks very nice, but the problem i gave with it is the stand. after a couple of weeks it is very weak. i also bought and highly recommend the Moko Slim Case. looks great, fits perfect and the stand is much sturdier and has two viewing angles. it also has a loop on it to hold your stylus and a strap for your hand to slide into very comfortably. theres even an elastic strap that fits over the corners to keep case secured open when in use in your hand so the the cover doesnt flap around. highly recommend this product. youtube review of it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8eTdyBgbnI
and you can get it on amazon for $15.99 http://www.amazon.com/MoKo-Slim-fit-Google-Android-Tablet/dp/B008FLYROG

I have the poetic slim in black and got it for 12 shipped on amazon. Like said above it's stand gets weak after awhile and isn't ideal for that. The reason I got it was to protect the screen and to not be bulky. It does that job really well.

Video Review: Cruzerlite Androidified Case

Hey fellas,
I normally post on the Galaxy S3 accessory forums but a few of my viewers have been asking for Nexus 7 product reviews, so I've gotten some cases in and will review them. The first I received was the Cruzerlite Androidified case, which is a simple TPU case that wraps around the sides and back of the tablet. It features a distinct 'android army' imprint on the back, which has a slightly matte finish to it. It's lightweight and offers decent protection, so it is a good 'average' case. It retails for $20 and comes in a myriad of different color options.
If anyone is interested in a giveaway of these, let me know. I can get a few in from Cruzerlite is there is enough demand
Check out my full video review below for more info;
Its a nice case, Id get one in red but IDK if a tpu case is worth $20.00

Great job on the review ! Id love one in Orange looks really nice
I have an Androidified case for my GNex, and I liked the design (and price) of that version much better than the one for the Nexus 7. But I have to say it does scratch fairly easily. I treat my gadgets very gingerly, but just being slid around on my desk at work or put in my purse during traveling (in a pocket away from my keys and other things that could damage it) it still picked up lots of little scratches.
At any rate, I don't like the "lots of tiny Andys" design as much as the "one large Andy" version, and for $20 I don't think it's worth it, considering there are other TPU cases available that are also good quality for about half the price. For $20 you can get the ASUS travel case, which isn't everyone's favorite, but it has a nice feeling finish (due to the microdots all over it) and the front flap, which to me is the better deal. If you tape a thin magnet to the front flap of the ASUS case you'll have a serviceable smartwake function, as well.
Good review, it just helped me realize that this case is not for me, and I wanted to make sure people knew about the scratching thing. It's not terrible, but it can happen and it does mar the finish of the case, at least on my GNex anyway.

Bought 4 Cases (Seidio, Body Glove, Ballistics, Boxwave): Here is my 8 cents!

Hello everyone,
Ive been looking through this accessory thread ever since I owned my note 2 trying desperately to get rid of the crappy Body Glove case I was "borrowing" from Tmobile. Well, my three other cases came today, and after testing them all, I will tell you what I settled with.
First things first:
The Body Glove: I don't have any pictures of this crappy case, but you don't need any. Apparently I found out today after returning my version of the BG that they have OTHER styles which are far superior then the one that I had. But probably still pretty bad. This is the beginners case that you settle on if you have no idea how to surf the WWW. Obviously if you are reading this, you would never settle for this case, especially at the outrageous $30+ price tag.
Now for the 3 puppies that arrived today. I purchased these all on amazon.com.
The Seidio Active Case:
My initial thoughts are that this would be the case I would be settling with, especially after the youtube reviews... But after putting it on, and upon comparison, I realized that this case offers minimal protection as far as a drop would be concerned. It feels extremely cheap with the white plastic, and I had no idea that this is what I was purchasing. Not only that, but it has the same issue as the body glove - Slippery bastard. Sure the sides are rubber, but its an extremely soft smooth rubber that doesnt "Stick" if you know what I mean. Don't get me wrong, this is a pretty nice looking case, and I like the kickstand...but it's not for me. They also have other very vivid colors. As far as price goes, this case is a rip off at $30.35. Almost as bad as the body glove, but slightly cheaper and prettier.
The Ballistics Case:
This is the case that I read reviews about and heard is supposed to offer some of the best protection outside of Otterbox Defender case. Not to mention it looks good. Well, I opened this bad boy up, and noticed a few things right away. The rubber shell is not snug at all. When you snap on the plastic, it gets a little more snug, but I guarantee this case will fall apart everytime you drop your phone. This already had me worried. Another issue is the damn sides of the case. ITS CHEAP 100% SLIP-GUARANTEE Plastic! Damnit. I had really high hopes for this case.
If this doesn't already kill all your hopes and dreams, it makes your phone much more gargantuan. However, I digress, when it comes to drop protection, even though you'll be picking up the two pieces of your case + your phone, I would feel confident that the majority of impact from the initial drop would be absorbed into this case, before it falls apart. Price to protection value is decent at $23 dollars. Note that this case is cheaper now at $19 which increases the appeal of this case if you have a decent grip of your phone at all times.
The final case is the Boxwave OA3 Resolute:
So check this out, I only found this case on accident thanks to Slickdeals.net. I read reviews about boxwave's case for other phones such as the SIII, and I was prepared to be disappointed with this case. But alas, none of those previous problems exist and ironically, I am keeping this case even though its MUCH cheaper than all the other cases I've tried. This case almost looks identical in design to the Ballistics, which is what I think the company was going for. However, it is only one piece of hardened rubber. It fits very snug, and feels great in the hand. It doesn't make the phone as huge as the ballistics case, and I still feel confident that this case will offer a decent amount of drop protection. Another bonus is that it has a kickstand... but don't count on it for very long, because its the cheapest feeling kickstand you'll probably ever see in your life. I can almost bet money that it'll break with regular usage. So enjoy it while it lasts. You definitely cannot beat this case for the price as it was only $10.00 total. Not to mention its all black, no cheap looking white plastic.
I have attached all the photos I took. Sorry I don't have photos of the case on the phone, as I had taken the pictures with the note 2
Hope you found this post helpful.
Here are the links to all the cases, except for the Body Glove!

Boxwave: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000H163JE/ref=ox_ya_os_product <--Unfortunately Sold out until Feb 28th Courtesy of SD.net
Thanks!
Thanks for for the pictures. I personally am still waiting on the seidio convert case for the extended battery, I enjoyed the one I had on my thunderbolt. The case I have on my note 2 is the $12 (now $8.95) rugged case from ebay. The case uses the same style of synthetic rubber that the seido case uses and prevents me from dropping the phone. What are you going to do with those left over cases?
Good review, and I do agree with you on every point. While waiting for my UAG case, I'm using right now $7 ebay case (first one in my review link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36730711&highlight=rugged+dual+layer#post36730711) - which is a copy of Seidio Active and also similar to Otterbox Commuter. Commuter has a higher quality inner rubber lining, without a doubt. But Active is exactly the same stuff, or I should say that ebay cheap knockoff is exactly the same design and quality as Active
Btw, the Boxwave one you can get from ebay shipped for about $7. Its not their original design, just a generic ebay case they purchase in bulk from China and sell conveniently for local us shippment.
Thanks for the compliments. I am returning the other cases to amazon for free since I said that they are faulty, lol.
Useful review but I disagree on the ballistics case after going through other reviews and more than enough websites I found the ballistics case was the indeed the case which had the protection. The box said 8-9ft drop so I tested it with a leap faith and the case phone stayed together with no damage and didn't come apart. Also you say slippery wrong again I can apply minimum pressure using my little finger and thumb dry and wet with no slippage. The case is made from decent materials not the stuff you would get from a 5 dollar case which I have been through several. The case offers better screen protection from laying flat on a surface screen down than any case with the added corner protection. The back is non slip also and makes good resting on a slanted surface say a car roof, bonnet or dash board. And with a year warrantee you can't get far wrong. In general its makes the whole overall grip better and nice to the touch. Feels very manly to and with a simplistic look. With the plastic support the case holds firmly all round the note. Down side only two colours black and white, little flimsy top and bottom of screen. Price is fair for the case was 22.99 off eBay stores, cheaper if you get a deal on it.
Amazon gives a 4.5/5 overall for 33 reviews that's pretty good like.

Interesting. The Amazon listing says leather in the title, but refers to ballistic nylon and 3do in the description. If it's really the original leather and 3do case for $5 that's great. Anyone know? Also... How do the dimensions line up with the N10?
EDIT: see post #7 in this thread -- I got the case and was extremely disappointed. Not worth $5.
I do t have this one... But I do have one of their cases for my iPhone 3gs and it is pretty indestructible.

Yes -- I remember seeing the demo videos for Tech21 and d30. Very impressive stuff. This appears to be a great price. From what I can see, it looks like the long dimension would be about 1/2" longer than the Nexus 10, and the narrow dimension about 1" greater than the narrow dimension of the Nexus 10. The case is definitely a bit oversized. However if it's leather, with two layers of d30, it would be a pretty fantastic case / sleeve for $5...
Edit: I searched some more, and it appears that the same d3o case is being sold on different sites anywhere from $5 to $45. For $5 including shipping, I figured it's worth a risk. If it's leather with d3o that will be a fantastic deal. If it's ballistic nylon with d3o then it's still a good deal. Already shipped. I should have it next week. Really curious!

Ugh... Just received it. Very disappointing. I really like Tech21 cases and D3O, but this case seems like a poor imitation. There's orange fabric inside, but it's loose and wrinkled, and it seems that there's no D3O under the fabric. Bad production run? Fake? Defective D3O that dried up? No idea, but I recommend against getting this. Also: despite the measurements, the Nexus 10 does NOT fit in this case.
Total waste.

Oh well, I guess no need to look forward to receiving the package I ordered one Friday. Thought it would be a nice sleeve since I plan on keeping it naked in the house, guess I'll get one from SFbag.
What about some of the cases on etsy.com? Handmade and seems fairly well made.

Yes - quite a variety on Etsy and some of them look very nice. Comparing with SFBags and Waterfield Designs -- if I were opting for a high quality sleeve, I'd lean toward the Waterfield Designs products from SFBags for a couple of reasons:
- The sleeves are explicitly made and sized precisely for the Nexus 10. Most of the sleeves on Etsy state that they are for "Nexus 10 or iPad", which leads me to believe that they're either wrong, or the sleeves are only an approximate fit. The Waterfield sleeves are designed specifically to be just snug enough so the tablet doesn't fall out, but not so tight that the N10 is difficult to remove -- they illustrate this well in the videos on the website.
- The Waterfield sleeves include dense padding, along with a rigid screen protector under the padding and fabric. It doesn't come in contact with your Nexus 10, but it helps protect the screen from shock when it's in the case. Seems like better protection to me.
After that, it comes down to personal preference, design, materials and price.

The more closely I looked at what I received, the clearer it was that the vendor misrepresented what he was selling. I was annoyed enough to write a review, post some pictures at Amazon, and also file a complaint. Interestingly enough, the seller contacted me within 48 hours and put in for a full refund (all of $5), which Amazon confirmed the next day.

In contrast, I also purchased the Moko Slim Fit multi-angle case -- NOT the "PU Leather" version for $6, but I found they sell a true/genuine leather version for $21 -- with zero cost for 2 day shipping if you have Prime (I love Prime!). Anyway - the Moko genuine leather case is excellent. Fits perfectly, doesn't obstruct anything, very nicely finished and looks great. Moko or poetic case?

Hey guys! Just bought my Nexus 10 and waiting to put my hands on! I've been reading all of the threads that contains information of this two cases, but I want to ask directly wich is better?
Sorry for my english !
I have the moko multi angle and I think it's pretty good.

They are both nice,
I have both slim versions.
The poetic imo is hard to place on and the plastic kind blocks the on volume buttons.
Moko is more open in terms of the buttons there is no plastic blocking it.
Poetic feels more like a full coverage compared to Moko
But I prefer using my moko.
I use my moko ultraslim and I'll never go back to my poetic case. I love the feel and look. Extremely light

+1, moko ftw.
I'm buying the Moko then! thanks for the quick answer guys!
I bought both Moko and Poetic cases for my Nexus 10.
Both are really nice and light. but the Moko case is kinda brittle. I accidentally slammed the front cover to the magnet and the part where it holds the magnet cracked and now its loose.
I now use the Poetic case and loving it so far.
My N10 should arrive tomorrow! Also, the Moko case should arrive next week, I'll share my opinion shortly
I had the Moko Slim-Fit, but the quality of the leatherette was horrible -- a cheap and rough plastic feel. (Which was funny, because I had what ostensibly the same Moko Slim-Fit for my old Note 10.1, and it was much better quality.) After buying the i-Blason by mistake -- the POGO port was completely covered! -- I just got the Poetic Hardback. I'm not sure what the difference is between this and the Slimline -- they look the same -- but the closure latch is horrible. It will only close completely if you actually pinch it closed forcefully, otherwise the edge of the latch just sits on the top of the tablet, held in place primarily by the N10's grippiness and the tight fit.
I'm now debating whether to go for the Moko "Genuine Leather" Slim-Fit, or go for a third option with the Blurex Ultra-Slim. All of these things seemed to be made by the same manufacturer anyway.

I've got the moko genuine leather slim fit, and have had it on my Nexus 10 for several months. It's been excellent. I reported on it a few months back in this thread, and posted a pretty detailed review on Amazon too. It fits perfectly - I just about never remove it. After months of daily use there is NO visible wear at all. It's essentially still like new. Very pleased within h it. Highly recommended.

For anyone curious - just to be sure - this is the one I ordered:

I've had it on my Nexus 10 since February 24th -- it's only been off the table a couple of days in the past three and a half months. Still fits perfectly, functions perfectly, and looks like new despite heavy daily use. Very highly recommended. NOTE: this is the "genuine leather" version of the Moko Slim Fit Multi-Angle case -- there's NO chemical smell when new, whereas the plastic version (cheaper) may have the same solvent small that other folks have described with the plastic cases. This also seems to wear much better as well. Love it!
EDIT: I just updated the URL to be sure I got it right. Note: most of the Moko Slim Fit cases are "PU" Leather -- i.e., like most of the mass market cases from China, these are micro-thin sheets of leather underneath layers of polyurethane. When you look at the Moko page, mouse of the color choices, and about 3/4 of the way through the list you'll see the "black genuine leather" option - THAT is the one I have and is the one I recommend.

I have this Moko Genuine Leather case as well, along with a Noreve case. The only negative I would say about this case is that mine holds the N10 a little too tight on the sides. It makes it difficult to slide the N10 out. Also, I find it uncomfortable to hold while in the case for extended use, and the tab on the left side is just little too close to the headphone jack. Otherwise its a really good case for the money.

Actually, this is the link to the genuine leather Moko slim-fit: http://www.amazon.com/MoKo-Genuine-Leather-Slim-Fit-Multi-angle/dp/B00AUP04ZG/. The link you have is to the plain black one, although you can select the genuine leather black one from the options provided.
I received the genuine leather Moko last night, and it is MUCH much better than the plain black one, which has an awful feel to it. The top latch is very good, unlike the Poetic, which seems to have a hard time with the rubber edge of the N10. That's probably more critical for me than the fit at the bottom, since I open and close the case far more often than I pull out the bottom and set it up for viewing. That bottom fit is a bit snug, like the Poetic, but this doesn't bother me too much. I'd rather have it that way than have the bottom swinging loose.

Thanks -- anything we can do to help folks find the right version of this. Even using the link that you provided, though, it's important to note that if you select what simply appears to be a different color than the "genuine leather black", you'll wind up getting a "PU leather" case, not a true leather case. The PU leather (polyurethane over a micro thin layer of leather) is what smells funky (in most instances), doesn't fit as well, and doesn't last as long. You can confirm the difference when you select a color by scrolling down the page and reading the expanded product description.
just got the moko case! it's all right! but I'm not foul satisfied. I'm waiting for the incipio team to make one. The moko is the better option out there right now I think.
Received the moko genuine leather case yesterday. Really impressed with the build, quality and over all feel.
Sent from my GT-I9100
Ordered the MOKO genuine leather case as well.
Will update when I get it.

Motorola? Or Moko? The Moko genuine leather is definitely the best of the portfolio/journal cases. I just got the Google book cover last week, though, and have been using that since. Definitely a different, much slimmer feel, a bit less secure feeling because it's just a flap over the screen, but still nice.

Nexus 7 smartcover?

Hi XDA! I am looking for my PERFECT case/smartcover for the Nexus 7.
So the official Nexus 10 has a smart cover that is incorporated into the "rubber feet" on the back. Today, while walking through a mall, I saw these Blackberry Z10 smartcovers that are incorporated into the battery door.
Do you know of a case that is similar for the N7?
this is what the Blackberry Z10 battery door/smartcover look like http://bit.ly/10KGnO9
tried looking around, I haven't yet found anything so I gave up. Now my N7 has no case but I might just sell it an get an N10 anyways
The back has never needed any protection so these folio cases are pointless....it's the front that always has, and a bumper of sorts with the smartcover built in would be ideal
Exactly. The N7 is pretty bulky as is, dont need an extra layer in the back.

I have a moko cover that's pretty sweet. Its a portfolio case that let's you stand it in landscape to use with a Bluetooth keyboard or just to watch videos.
I tried posting a link but since I'm a new users, the forum won't allow me to. Just go to amazon and search for "moko slim-fit case" $15.99
Similar to the Blurex cases.
I've tried lots of cases. I DID like the Blurex/Moko style. However it did add a considerable amount of thickness. I also tried the Poetic case, which is a slim hard back plastic case with a smart case attached. It worked pretty well and latches shut at the end to keep closed. The Poetic case is the best case I've found for a smart cover type protection.
I eventually settled on a hardback book case. It is stylish and gives it a little more protection. The lid stays closed with a strap but some include wood shells with magnets. I opted for the cheapest solution and find it very good. In fact it has held up very well. The tablet is held in by sticky tape. I've owned mine for months and never had it fall out or need to be cleaned/restuck.

Plenty of color combinations. I have a Red exterior, white inner liner, and a black strap. Nice and clean.
So iPAD mini like smart covers isn't available for the N7 ? I too just need a lightweight smart cover only to protect the screen and not the back and was wondering if something like poetic slimline exists?
The Poetic Slimline does exist, as my previous posts states, for the Nexus 7:

The iPad Smart Covers uses many magnets around the edge of the screen to keep the flappy flap tight against the surface. Others just use one side of magnets at the edge of the closing point.
Very good price too. I purchased mine for $20, but it is showing $9.95 at Amazon right now.
The Poetic was nice and I liked it but out of the 4-5 months I owned it, I had to replace it 3 times because the material would break at the seams. Poetic has a 3yr warranty and replaced it hassle free by just emailing them my Amazon order number. Because they are so cheap, they don't even bother wanting the old one returned... so while they were falling apart, other N7 owners didn't mind a free slightly worn case.
Here is a video of them:

Yea. In doing the research and finding that video, I noticed the different colors. When they first came out they only had black. I'd almost wouldn't mind picking up a baby blue or red one.
I noticed colors are a little more expensive.
@player911
After so much of research with matching my requirements, I just couldnt find an alternative to Poetic Slimline case. Looks like it isnt available in my country (India) which is not cheap option.
Any idea if there's any similar chinese ones or replica? Have seen few smart covers from China on Ebay but they have the problem of turning off the screen when cover is flipped around.

I've heard good things about the Nillkin smart-wake cases. While the case covers both the front and back, the folding section does not, which makes it a bit slimmer (Hard to explain, take a look at the link for a picture). Apparently these cases don't suffer from the waking issue when folded backwards, either.
Here's a review I found: http://www.androidcentral.com/nillkin-leather-flip-cover-nexus-7
Dad recently bought a Nexus 7 and we ordered this case, though we haven't received it yet so can't offer any first-hand impressions.

Heard about Nillkin so let me see
EDIT:
Doesn't protect the screen as cover doesn't have magnets on edges(magnetic closure) like poetic one to close it 100%
EDIT2:
Ordered Poetic Slimline
