[Q] can't mount /sdcard/ and not recognize by odin - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, I've searched the forum for similar problem like mine and none of them worked with me. I have flashed CM 10 to my captivate and everything was working good. But then i decide to restore a backup I made trough CWM and here happened the problem. It couldn't finish the restore process, it said MD5 check failed or something similar.
So when restore failed, i wiped all the data/factory reset and then wanted to flash the CM 10 again from the internal storage it says it can't mount sdcard.
I tried to flash a stock ROM using odin but odin can't recognize it. I only can go into recovery mode and download mode other else it keeps looping showing SAMSUNG logo only.
This is a screen shot of the messeage it show's in CWM.
the link below is for the screen shot added http at the beigning because i'm not allowed to post outside link since i'm a new member

I think your first plan of action would be to get Odin to recognize your phone. Do you have the right divers installed?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium

finally i got odin to recognize it and right now its flashing. i'm using odinOneClick I897UCJF6 and it shows this
Code:
<ID:0/013> Added!!
<ID:0/013> Odin v.3 engine (ID:13)..
<ID:0/013> File analysis..
<ID:0/013> Set PIT file..
<ID:0/013> DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!
is this normal, because this is my first time to use this !

Yea that's all normal. It said added so it sees it. Can u flash a kernel?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium

Wonderfull, Now it shows firmware upgrade fail ! Try using recovery mode ! . It seems there's a lot to learn about smartphones. Any help

Does Odin still see your phone when that screen is up? If so flash it again. U may want to get a stock image and flash back to that first if you can.

Possible froyo leak problem

so i just put on the leaked THROUGH ODIN froyo onto my captivate, and i thought yeah its nice but its not as snappy as the other roms
so i put my phone into download mode and get ready to flash it back to stock so i can put on cog or assonace or w.e. i choose
but now my computer (Windows 7 32) won't recognize the phone in download mode anymore! its retarded i don't understanddddddd
first it works now it doesn't. it used to recognize it but now USB DEVICE IS NOT RECOGNIZED or whatever bull**** it spits out...ive uninstalled and installed and restarted and registry cleaned my computer a billion times...
anyone else?
You can try reloading your drivers. sometimes it helps. Or a different usb port. BEFORE you flash back.....you can swap the kernel from dg's cognition 2.3b8 into your phone.....works WONDERS for general snapiness...BUT...the 2.2 leak renders your bluetooth pretty useless......havent tried it since the kernel swap.....anyone know if the kernel swap effects bluetooth? Anyway...entertain the thought
i kno u can change the kernel but i really want to get the bloatware off and voodoo and everything and have a quadrant of OVER 9000!!! lol
but seroiusly wtf samsung...whats going on
I gave up on samsung updates about 3 days after I got my phone. I see a lot of complaining about the bloatware....i personally dont see the big deal....its 5 or so apps and you can just leave them buried in the app folder and install the things you actually use on your home screens...just my 2 cents. BTW voodoo DOES come with the kernel swap...and its awesome!
okay i got the computer to recognize the phone
now odin is being gay...just one thing after another LOL
but anyways...
this is how its going down...

That could be a problem. If it does not move your only choice will be to pull batery and start again. You are stuck on the secondary boot loader.
Good luck

lol yes it is a problem haha
ideas anyone?
ive tried a few different ODINS and the same thing happens it just gets stuck...
should i clear anything like wipe before flashing to a stock?
do i just press master reset before i flash to stock?
Can you still get into download mode?
Have you tried deleting odin, re download.
I am presuming you have used odin before and this is a new behavior.

yeah i've used it to every extreme today haha i have a few odins
one to get to stock JH6
one thats a fix for the 3 button combo and stock JH6 (where you have to manually load the pda and pit
and the one that flashed me to the leaked 2.2
the only one that works it the leaked 2.2, but i want to get back to JH6 so i can flash it to the new perception
i don't think redownloading odin will work because i have them all saved in different folders...
I am not sure how to fix your odin problem, but you can swap kernels, then try to flash perception through clockwork.
Just a thought

lol i would love to know how to do that...
i kno how to install clockwork and get rooted but i dunno how to swap kernels
Just a suggestion...try using a different usb cord. We have a number of different cords (half of which are cheap amazon ones mainly used for charging) and I have seen times where changing cords has solved my headache with communication problems (using adb commands) and odin hanging, even though the same cord worked fine the day before.
Are you rooted
sgs kernel flasher app from market
Get app
Download a kernel.
Open app, back up current kernel just in case. Move kernel to file on your sd that the app creates. Open app select choose kernel click flash kernel.

Seen that post , but it doesnt say what to do with odin? As in where to load the .tar file etc.
You flash the Modaco kernel via Odin, if your file system isn't ext4 (which it won't be then you may need to manually reboot your phone - My phone still rebooted automatically coming from a rfs file system)
Once your phone reboots it should enter recovery automatically and you just sit back and let CWM backup / covert your file system to ext4 / restore your rom back on to your coverted file system
(I believe there are instance also when you phone does not automatically enter recovery on reboot, in this situation you will need to manually enter recover after flashing the kernel in Odin - to do this you hold down the power button and volume up)
Another thing worth noting, i had encountered an issue during the conversion process where CWM was not able to restore my existing rom, when this happens you can download a ext4 rom (i.e. modaco rom or overcome 1.1.3) and flash the file via CWM - i.e. you can leave the kernel and try another Rom.
Hope this helps.
thanks bendjlee, but how do I use odin? (where to put .tar file which mode should tab be in etc..).

I also had "fail" in red in the left had box of odin, my tab is rooted and clockwork mod installed. What is wrong?
You'll need to put your tab to download mode first before connecting to your computer to odin. Turn on the tab with "volume down" held

ahh, will try it that way , but Im sure I tried that. Do I put phone in debugging mode before I go into download mode?
Download mode is different than recovery and debug. It would display an image of an android with a shovel. That is the mode you need to be in.
Even though the question was asked by someone else, these attempts to answer the question helped solve a similar problem on my side. Thanks!

Super One click stuck during root

Hello everyone, this is my first post on XDA
I am trying to root my girlfriend's galaxy S and having few difficulties:
I'm using SuperOneClick and I connected my device into the PC, i pressed "root"
after it wrote "daemon started successfully" it went "OK" and then "waiting for device"... and that's it now its not responding and i dont know if i should unplug the device ot retry or whatever...
Before i tried using One click lag fix but it prompt "item could not be found" and said "root was successful" but it wasnt so "successful" according to titanium backup.
device: galaxy s GT-i9000
firmware version: 2.2
kernel version: 2.6.32.9 [email protected]_ANRD_SRV2 #1
build version number: froyo.JIJPA.
Thank you in advance.

it goes till the homepage and then reboots again showing the company's screen.
after installation the device booted and then it started rebooting over and over, i unplugged the device from the pc and it keeps rebooting

Go get your firmware from the stock thread in general or one of Ramad's pre rooted firmwares. Follow the instructions to flash. You just need to reflash, it'll work out just fine. Then worry about kernels.
Speed mod kernel is what worked best for me in FroYo to lag fix and root, I recommend it highly.

now it seems the device is bricked.
i cant access download and recovery mode and got a screen of a phone and a pc and yellow triangle between them.
is there anything i can do?
edit:
i got into download mode what can i do now? im really nervous, where can i find the instructions to flush.
im on download mode right now, can i turn of the device without bricking it?
This happened to me once, don't panic. Take out your battery, plug in your phone to the charger and use the 3 button combo to get into download. You can repair from this screen. The phone ! Pc is only a soft brick.

First, thanks for your help dude,
I thought the phone is dead, but i said lets try one more time before i go to fix it somewhere.
Now im in download mode, can i flash rom with a tar file i have, its a stock rom of the company i bought it from, i need other file then .tar or the .tar is enough?
can i plug it to the charger while in download mode?
No problem buddy.
If the tar is a full rom, flash it as a PDA with no other files. Make sure repartition is not checked.
You can plug it in, but there is no over charge protection so make sure it doesn't overheat for too long. You do need the battery to be over 65% though, to flash safely.other than that, flash normally. Tell me if you need instructions on flashing.

this is how i flash:
get my device to download mode.
open odin v1.7, open the tar file as PDA
connect the device to the usb, auto reboot and F.reset time and the only option checked and then i press "start".
Is there anything else i have to do?
OK i installed JVQ stock rom and its working
I thank you very much my friend you helped me alot.
now i wanna install semphore kernel, how i do it via odin?
Make sure to kill all kies processes in the task manager before starting. Make sure you have the usb drivers installed. Also start and get odin ready before plugging in your phone in download mode.
That's about it, you should be fine.
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
well i flashed the kernel, but now i cant download apps from the market, it just get stuck on "starting download"...

Did you do a factory reset and clear your cache? That's usually where my errors came from. Beyond that I'm not sure.

I was able to unbrick the cell using onc click unbrick method.. Now i can go to download mode by pressing volume up + down and connecting microusb cable..
If i Boot normally then it will show AT&T screen and will get stuck over ther
If i try to boot to recovery ( I had flashed clockworkmod recovery) then It will display AT&Screen for few seconds and goes off and again comes and goes of.. and this continues...
I am not able to use odin to download any image.. I dont know how to proceed now..
Is it possible to flash clockwordmod recovery from download mode ?

And second question.. right now in Froyo there is no option to install unknown sources.. That option is not there in application settings menu...

You probably just flashed froyo boots, so the GB ones would be necessary for GB.
And yes, stock froyo doesn't allow unknown sources.

your phone might encountered lock up some sectors on your internal storage.. so repartitioning might be a consideration..
Okay, so far I've flashed a eMMC Safe Kernel via Odin and now able to go to recovery mode.
It now shows model number display with the yellow triangle sign showing & can't go further than that.
Any idea what to do next?

If it Driver problem PC Odin will not detect you phone...
now you can go to stock recovery or what?...try flash Philz kernel using PC Odin.. if done, boot to recovery and flash any custom Rom...if no luck i'm sure your phone already hard brick/super bricked....
check out this method to revive bricked phone...PIT file method to revive your phone from a MMC_CAP_ERASE brick
Now you have safe kernel then boot into recovery do all the wipes and then boot into download mode and then try flashing the rom from pc odin

It seems that the only thing that is stopping me from getting a full recovery is now the eMMC...working on it atm.

Hey guys,
I've been working with IzoKuro in trying to figure out how to sort out this phone, We have sorted out everything as Izo has said but now as he has said we are having trouble flashing the custom rom I've tried to do it via recovery mode and it comes up with this:
E:Error in /emmc/CUSTOM ROM.zip
(Status:7)
Installation aborted.

Click to collapse
I've tried it with a stock ROM as well and that isn't any better.
For that it comes up with:
E:Can't open /emmc/CUSTOM ROM.zip
(Bad)
Installation aborted.

Click to collapse
So can someone let me know what option on PC Odin that we have to use to flash that rom.
Thanks,
Nippon
What recovery?..stock or what?..give more detail..
What kernel do you flash before?
What custom rom that you try to flash on recovery?
How many time you flash on PC Odin and stuck on factoryfs.img?
What rom your on before you flash using Odin in the 1st place?
Did you make a wipe on stock ICS kernel/recovery?

It's possible that the zip you have downloaded is bad so download a fresh new copy and as you said you want flash a custom rom! Is that rom a cyanogen based rom? If yes then download cm kernel and flash it in recovery then install the custom rom
