Looking for a stable rom for my 70 year old Father - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello I am looking for a Rom that will not freeze up. A stable and fast Rom and Kernel combo. My father is 70 and when it freezes up on him you can imagine the distress and 20 phone calls i receive from him. Please can someone advice on the most stable rom there is on xda for the i9000. I am more concerned about stability than speed. Altho a bit of both would be nice. Even if I could have one with the latest firmware and still be stable would be a bonus. But i do understand the limits with the hardware and porting issues.
Thank you for any help you can give me.
Edit: This post needs moving to Q&A sorry to the forum admins.

Problem is he is on stock and it keeps freezing why I thought a custom rom may be a better option.

You can flash cm10.1 rc2 for more stable rom, cm10.1 is better than cm10.0
For stock setting I mean stock kernel

semaphore kernel one of the best kernel for sgs, and im using it as u can see in my sign. but because its for your father i prefer to stay with stock, or you can use semaphore its v.stable but don't use live oc because its phone independent and may cause soft reboot

I installed it and wow its fast. Also how nice is CM10. I slapped gapps on top to cos he uses gmail play etc. I can't believe I have never bothered with AOSP Roms before. It's going on my i9300 tonight. Stunning! Thanks again for your help.

Cm7. stupid answer to a stupid question.
In this moment i use JVU and is stable! I recomend that!
You will flash a JVwhatever, notice that they cannot compete with AOSP roms like CM7 or MIUI and flash back.
I recommend, in aim of saving time, to stay on MIUI.

Thats why i wrote that its a stupid question. Cause such questions tends to get people back to the same old fight between cm7/miui/samsung based roms.
i think you won't find the "best" jvz rom. they are all different and have all some problems, but thats android
btw i think DoctorzRom and S.U.R.F.A.C.E. are very stable and good

Once you try tornado you will never look back
Simplicity is the best Gingerbread ROM ever for our Sammy..
The last release (yesterday) is 2.1 based on JVZ..cool!
But BLN doesn't seem to work for sms..any suggestions?
10 answers, and ten different advice.
Some about CM7, forgeting to remember you how bad battery life is,
some about their own rom ( I let you judge if their opinions are really relevant ^_^ )
And others about random roms.
So I won't give you any advice, except that you have to try them all and find the one that fits your needs.
You could trust some developpers more than some others, but it's not so easy as many "old and known" developpers do not behave, to my mind, as real gentleman, and troll a lot (and i'm not only talking about $omator ...)
Good luck, and welcome back to the jungle of random quality rom

Stable Custom ROM

To Mods : This is not a "whats the best custom ROM for ace" thread..I am asking for a stable ROM that i can use for everyday
So What is A Custom ROM that is stable and can be used for everyday in Ace? And any kernel suggestion to go with the ROM?:good::good:
Thanks So Much:highfive:
Even this depends on the end user requirements!
Some may feel the CM9 stable even if its in beta, while others may not be happy even with the most stable gb for the ace because it doesn't contain something they require!
My say, go for stocklite or official cm7. But afterall it depends on your definition of stability!!

ok, so you are thinking of having official cm7 for ace and apocalypse. let me tell you a better option. there is this rom called droidace it uses official cm as a base and when i compared benchmarks with apocalypse it turns out to be faster. im using it and i personally like it more than apocalypse. try it out. its really nice.
CM 7.2 MIRACLE Edition V4. Everything works and its the fastest rom ive ever used. Quadrant Advnced scores for me are 2500+ at 883 MHz and smartassv2.
Cm7.2 Miracle is perfectly stable, and is a nice fast Rom.
Lewa (in my signature) is also stable (they do two versions stable version and dev version) which is a very nice alternative rom with nice features. (its cm 7 based)
Im currently using cm7.2 democracy blackhawk 2.1.. so far no probs.. n very smooth.. no lag.. stable n for me, it's the best latest ROM for ace..

I used to have stock Gingerbread on my SGS I9000. Then I switched to DarkyROM ICS, which was okay. After a while I came across the SlimRoms website, which was still developing Slim ICS at the time, so I flashed ICS, which was brilliant. Shortly after the Slim team started working on SlimBean, and after reaching a stable version I tried it for myself, a decision I am glad I made.
SlimBean is by far the lightest, fastest ROM I've used so far. Give it a try for yourself and you'll see how amazing, lag-free it is. I'm using version 3.1 with the Semaphore kernel version 2.6.2s.
Hi,
I've flashed many roms on my i9000 : Miui, cyanogen 7, Cyanogen 9, Jelly Bean, ICs..... but for me the best one is the JW8 SAUROM.
Stable, fast, GS3 Theme and a very good battery life !!
Since i am on this rom i don't want to flash another one !
Slim 3.1 with semaphore 2.6
If someone help me i definitely HIT THANKS....
Your question must be more specific, and I'll try to explain...
In my opininon the are only 2 developers team which should be considered, first CyanogeneMod which leads because of it's bigger number of devs (so more supported devices). 2nd is AOKP, which I personally prefer because it's more designale and more good looking, but also very stable. I've tested hardly both, but 5th build from AOKP has best battery life, so I'm never going back to CM, only for new tests, making new statistics etc.
Hope I helped, greetings

But not alll stock rom 2.3.x can be flash with semaphore.. and not all i9000 can be flash with the same s/rom. But still semaphore 2.7.4 is the best way to get cwm. If flashi v semaphore causing boot failure, try to flash with other s/rom and re-flash semaphore.

The idea of two developers was what I was thinking as well when I was making a decision either to stay on stock 2.3.6 or flash something new. CM9 is more "readable" for me in terms of numbering and Stable/Nightly/Experimental. Even tough I do not understand how come there is a stable version followed by nightly builds.
When watching some videos and screens of AOKP I felt it might be even better but I got confused in the numbering (which of the builds is the most stable as I need a working phone not a phone to be flashed twice a week).
For me the best ROM is SlimBean with Semaphore Kernel!:good:
Try latest androslim (JB 4.2.1)... its very smooth, responsive and very stable...

C-Rom Mix V9 here - it's a near perfect ROM. Stable, everything is where it supposed to be. Very smooth operating. My last phone - XPERIA ARC S was destroyed (and its hardware is superior to that of i9000) - Galaxy - being slower by half is faster when speaking about this system operation. There are some hiccups with number recognition sometimes (like 1/10 phone calls and only till i pick up - so no showstopper for sure ). The camera is limited to just basic functions - but is working perfectly fine. The calendar is more basic than in ICS modded ROM for ARC S. The battery last for a day or less - but here i cannot say if the battery in my phone is just old or is this ROM (i got the phone used and the battery is 2,5 yo). And these are my only complaints - not much I have MUUUUUUUCH more complaints on every other stock/modded rom for Galaxy & ARC S
It's my daily ROM more than a week now.

Aways is great dev, but IMO his ROMs go quite far away from stock, he likes experiments. If you were fine with stock based ROMs, consider the CM10.2 as it is close to stock but not conservative at all. Yes, you can try that as well. But it was exactly my point, as I could have observed that most of people who have bugs with CyanogenMod have upgraded from Gingerbread to the CM10x. Those Froyo ROMs seem to be really "clean" to be overwritten, therefore my idea that it could help.
From people who upgraded to the CM from those Froyo ROMs and SpeedMod kernel nobody had bugs. I've only got so far one single time info that Trebuchet was bit laggy, but installing Apex launcher has solved that. On my i9000 Trebuchet is rock stable and fast, on my p5110 Tab I had to replace it with Apex, which indeed has worked perfectly well since the first second.

[Q] ROM with NO random reboots? Stable?

Hi,
Can someone please recommend a stable ROM for the I8190N? It needs to be light, customisable, stable and preferably 4.2.2 or above....
I would really appreciate it if replies address the following:
Please only suggest a ROM if you have had random reboots on another ROM, then flashed a ROM and the random reboots stop....
Already flashed and have had issues with:
CyanogenMod 11.0 (maclaw and AOKP)
CyanogenMod 10.2 (maclaw and OliverG)
Light by somin
Chameleon OS 0.8
Anything "golden"
A deodexed stock ROM and custom kernel would be fine.....
Thanks!!

I meant to say in my OP that Dmodv6 was excellent - started flashing others because I'm a serial flasher (have four android devices) and wanted a newer android version.... if you kitkat Dmod, I'll consider you a living god!!
I've got stock AMJ2 from sammobile and plan to deodex, root and de-bloat.
The stock rooted XXAMJ3 - isn't for the 8190N - would I expect issues if i flashed it? Ignore me, i know it would NOT be a good idea!
Thanks!!
stock rom is the best.

try one of these, they are fast, stable, debloated and smooth Virginity V2 or somin.n ROM
if you flash somin ROM, search baseband xxam... and kernel xxam... on the forum and flash it.
Maclaw's cm10.2 no longer suffers from random reboots and is completely stable (in my experience anyway).

Well, that depends on which governor you used and how many apps which sync every minute you had.
Luckily on custom roms you can change the governor.
You can change the behaviour or disable background processes as well. (I recommend the application ''Greenify'' for that).
If I didn't convince you now I'm afraid I have to tell you that there are no stable custom roms except stock based..
