[MOD][ROOT] Increase Picture/Video Recording Quality (Updated: 5/16/2013). - HTC First

*Credits to mohit1234 for the instructions and guide*
I have created a flashable ZIP file to replace the First's media_profiles.xml. The changes to the file are the following:
- Increased the amount of available memory for image decoding to 40 MB.
- Increase all image encoding values to 100.
Requirements
Custom Recovery
Root
Instructions
Copy ZIP file to SD card.
Boot into custom recovery.
Flash ZIP file.
Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache.
Reboot.
I have already tested this on my First, and as far as differences to the image quality, I will leave it up to you guys to decide if it makes a difference or not. The only quantitative measurement I noticed was that 5 MP pictures taken prior to the modification was roughly 1.8 MB, while the pictures taken after the file was replaced is now around 2.4 MB, so hopefully this means there is not as much image compression taking place.
Please provide feedback if this modification makes any difference to your pictures/video recordings!

Can you post before/after images as a comparison?
EDIT:
Mine are below. Left is before, right is after.

Absolutely, please see links below. The first picture is pre-mod, the second one is after.

Is this mod specific to the First's stock 4.1 camera? I have the stock 4.2 camera on mine so I don't want to flash it blindly.

The phone came in yesterday, and is it ever a great phone.
Looks very nice, the display just pops.
I was able to unlock it with the method shown, so that saved $25 which is awesome.
Overall, it is a really nice phone and one that I only paid $160 for. It really is too bad there is such little interest/support in it.

Stock 4.2?
People saying stock 4.2? How

Okay. Maybe you just don't know. But apps within the 4.1-4.3 range are compatible so the have STOCK APPS. Not the stock ROM.

- Skype
- Facebook
- Friend Stream
- Teeter
- Stock
- Slacker radio
- Flickr
- CityID

ROM Installation
1. phone must already be rooted
2. clear all data & cache

* I take no responsibility if your phone is bricked, use at your own risk
Changelog:
version A was original release
version B has Footprints removed (was missed in A)
Snapshot of front/main screen:
I don't expect to release anymore versions since this is currently what I use and quite content with it. I am sharing it in hopes that somebody might find it useful and if they wanted to, could build up on it.
Hope you enjoy it.

I stand corrected. My idea of vanilla is bare sense. I haven't found an AOSP I liked yet. I am currently running FeatherROM and love it but development stopped and I am still having MMS issues so I am shopping for another.
Check OP for link!
Here is the link again.
The post says footprints is removed but it was in the app drawer when I flashed it. Is it supposed to be there I don't use any of that stuff so its a great rom for me anyways thanks for the work.

Footprints should not be there. I'll remove and upload the file.
Yes as stated above this is bare Sense just without all those apps which I don't need.
Let me know if you find anything else that needs to be removed. I would caution though, its so easy to get carried away and before you know it, you have a rom that does not boot. This happened to me

ITViking I also was using feather and loved its simplicity but as you stated development stopped. I decided that I wanted all the stock features in my rom, no tinkering with any of those features but just to remove the apps listed in my original post. I stayed clear of it for 2 reasons 1) i just don't have enough skills yet and 2) if it aint broke.....
I have removed footprints and created a new file denoting version B. Original post contains link.
@ vinylb: Could you please add some screenshots to the OP? I understand it's basically stock, but we require other members to do it. If you need help inserting them, PM me with the links and I'll do it for you.
Thanks

Data on boot has been improved and should work all the time in LTE areas if not follow note below.
NOTE: For now you MUST dial *#*#4636#*#* or use Phone Info from the market and go into phone settings and toggle to GSM only mode then wait for data to come up. Do not toggle to any other mode JUST WAIT.
Google apps are not inclued be sure to download and flash them with the ROM.
What works:
Pretty much everything. Full media codec support for Netflix and YouTube HD, Camera and video camera (front and back), HW acceleration for Google Chrome.
All media codecs are build from source now with omap enhancement from ti omapzoom.org.
Very stoked to see this. I'm going to wait a bit to see if any other ICS Leak-based ROMs release and get an idea how stable they are. I'd be very happy to see MIUI.

The answer will always be no. If a device isn't officially supported, then the ROM won't have the same visibility and expertise that the CM process provides.
They are dhackers roms. Ive been using cm9 for ics leak since 233 came out. I haven't had any issues. He also has aokp for pics leak and aceoyame has miui for the leaks there also.

These stock roms are for users wanting to go backwards. Not for newbies.
Please New users to root or Flashing, if you want root on a stock rom FLASH ROOT.ZIP! do not flash this rom

.DO the triple wipe prior to flashing this as normal people.

there is no point in having screenshots because you all remember what stock looks like.
these are odex versions, allowing full space given from when you got it new. i give it this way as it lets you do what you want.
The root versions are capable of being used with either scripts listed below.
d2sd
data2sd-ext
data2ext3.
You need to flash this like any other ROM given. Do the triple wipe, if you prefer like me do it twice IE data/cache/dalvik/data/cache/dalvik) This will 99.9% clear any errors when you boot it up. Skipping these or not following correct procedure will in fact fudge it up when it boots up.
If you are using any other the given data2sd, then allow a full first boot inc setup etc the reboot to flash the script.
I have tried this ROM myself and i am happy with the turn out, although i don't like stock anyway lol
Newbies. DO NOT USE LINK2SD IF YOUE WANT INCREASED INTERNAL MEMORY

I am open to do other region roms but please note they are not same day creation.
upto 72hrs for creation and uploading required.
If you want one, i require the exact RUU your phone came with or your region so i can proceed.
At this point donations are welcome for my time

the idea vigoo is to give the users what they want not send them else where for another custom rom. fshamis roms are good but again its custom an sluggish from stock. i know cos i helped build them.
no offense but yet again, you have suggested using another custom on a thread meant for these only and not the fact that i said in the previous post i will build another set from scratch thus giving users the advanced option of choosing a stock rom which they are asking for.
it feels like your undermining me and taking over on various posts, stop hijacking threads to add information irrelevant to the thread involved regardless of the problem.
if this continues i will step down from RC and walk away, sorry like but its beginning to really annoy me.
If you think im being a bit to irate then pm me, happy to discuses this.

Just a suggestion, while flashing the stock ROM, could you add a link to GB Google apps, so newbies could flash those without the hassles of manual update.
Yes and no lol. Idea is to give stock back with nothing touched. This way its the users choice then otherwise it would he a custom if I replaced stuff lol

In "Stock with Root" ROM, when installing any root required app, it prompt root access is not granted. Think something wrong with su.
Try updating your su binary. It will be out of date! Check busybox to. Its stock with basic root so don't expect to much in the way of custom in there.
Sent from my HTC Salsa using Xparent ICS Blue Tapatalk 2
there does seem to be some issues with SU on the stock rooted. i myself didn't get any problems with this, but for users that have, please use Stock and add root.zip. this should solve the problems listed till i can rectify whatever is the problem. i will add root.zip to main post.
i installed the stockRoot rom but the superuser app does not work properly it can not update and it does not giving me root access to any program so i can not install busybox to increase my memory. any help about this?

[ROM][THEME][WIP]*=-XperiaBeans For the D3-=* Theme Instructions Update 02/27/13!

Welcome
To: XPERIABEANS ALPHAHello everyone.
My name is AndroiddiordnA, and I have just recently scooped up a D3 for a sweet sweet $50 with the car dock and Otterbox :victory:
So, I came home and got right down to getting it Unlocked, Rooted, Flashed some JB and instantly realized a sad truth. I havent seen much Xperia love on many Droid devices recently. So I am on a mission starting with the Droid 3 to start a series of builds for Motorola Devices that will combine the smoothness of JB with the elegance of Xperia.
I am looking for a few testers, as well as some Devs if interested to take on tackling this project.
Below are some screenshots of my current progress, This is a "sample" of what we would be looking at. I am currently running this and it is based off of HASHCODES KEXEC CM10.1 4.2.1. (This would be seperately built with Xperia Framework in an actual Custom build)
But you all get the idea.
Message me with any questions, or if there is some interest.
Thanks!
AdA

Hello Everyone!
Im actually pleased to say that I have been running this successfully for 24 hours and have really taken a liking to my new found Droid 3.
Of course not having 1GB of ram is a killer as the system is not as fast as a comparable Dual Core phone. But for what it is on the device it is, you just cant beat the look and feel of it.
I can do one of two things for all of the people that are interested and itching to flash.
1. I can write up a detailed process to get you to where I am starting with a fresh install of the 1-23 CM10 From Kexec.
2. I can make a Nandroid and you could possibly just put it in your backups folder and restore it. Not sure would need someone to test this.
Either way get me some feedback and ill hop on tonight and get some Xperia in your guy's hands for sure.
Oh BTW, I have not installed Gapps over top of this yet as I can be 100% sure it will significantly eat up the very small amount of ram left. I am working on a slim Gapps that is based off a Galaxy s2 10MB Gapps file just have to do some tweaks and it will at least give you play store and the ability to get your contacts and everything.
Ill let you all know tonight whats up.
Thank you all for the support and drop me a PM if you want to test out a nandroid backup this evening as I will get one available.
ALSO: If there is anyone that could help me compile all of this into a flashable zip that would be great because im not too familiar with Droid 3 do's and dont's.
BUMP for Update 2/27/13
Check the top for updated instructions on how to temporarily turn your KEXEC CM10 into XperiaBeans themed CM10!
dang b/ro this theme looks really good,
will it work on aokp builds or only cm10?
if not how much trouble would it be to make one for aokp?
either way thanx for your time and effort
ill flash cm10 when i get a chance and ur theme
and ill report back

Confirmed working S4 ROMS on S4A with SafeStrap

I have started this thread to keep track of working S4 ROMS on S4A with SafeStrap.
I would only try 4.2.2 Touchwiz roms due to are kernel limitation!!
You must flash your module MF1,MF2,MF3 zip for the stock rom you are on! Also menu and back keys need to be configured
I have had no luck getting stock camera to work on any S4 rom even with camera patches.
Due to post count I can not provide links yet!
Confirmed Working:
SHOstock-v2.0 and update to v2.3 (Camera not working) Can use Focale or Camera 360
Confirmed Not Working:
Flight 5 (bootloop)
MDOB MF3 v2.5 (Wll not Flash)
If you get an error saying it isn't compatible because you don't have a 9295 or something you can edit the updater script and remove the compatibility check. I say this because I am currently using the MDOB rom and I love it.

Honestly I don't know what it was. I'm running MF1. Hyperdrive used to work for me but not now. After seeing the new one I have to try again lol. Anyway, I just created a rom slot, flashed the MF1 module, flashed the rom, reflashed module, flashed some of the addons from the thread, and it booted right up.
No camera support whatsoever though = /. At least not that I can see lol.
---------- Post added at 03:29 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:15 AM ----------
Here is what seems to be important about being able to use any particular rom:
1. Comes in a flashable .ZIP format
2. Does NOT require any kind of custom kernel
3. Stock based (4.2.2)
4. Does not automatically install any modem files. (soft bricked a few times trying to flash a rom with a modem)
Other things I've noticed:
These stock based roms will USUALLY work fine if you "Restore Data" after you boot them. That being said, you need to pay attention to whether the rom is odexed or deodexed. I keep a backup of my config in an odex data file and a deodex data file so I can flash either = ).
All roms share the same Download/Music/Video etc folders which is awesome.
Camera almost never works.
I never get init.d support (maybe something I'm doing wrong?)
I will post more info as it comes to mind. (3:30 AM lol)
